Rashford hauls again while Alli’s resurgence continues

Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

  • Goals: Marcus Rashford (£8.7m) x2 | Dele Alli (£8.5m)
  • Assists: None | Serge Aurier (£4.9m)
  • Bonus: Rashford x3, Alli x2, Aurier x1

A 13-point haul against Spurs on Wednesday night propelled Marcus Rashford (£8.7m) into third on the list of top-scoring FPL forwards this season.

It is now four scores of nine points or more in the past seven Gameweeks for the Manchester United striker and, over the Red Devils’ last three league games, Rashford has registered three goals and two assists en route to two double-figure returns.

On the striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Amazon Prime:

He’s played all the games more or less this season. The boy is getting fitter and fitter, more experienced and what a performance. Two goals, creates them himself, could and should’ve had two more. Free-kick is going in all the way and just at the end it curls outside. So a fantastic performance by the boy.

After this weekend’s Manchester derby, United have a run of six relatively favourable fixtures before a trip to face Liverpool in Gameweek 23. Rashford is likely to be a serious contender for Fantasy squads over the festive period then, while the same can be said for Dele Alli (£8.5m).

Despite an underwhelming performance from Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur side in Gameweek 15, the confident-looking midfielder still looks ripe for investment.

Alli made it four attacking returns in three league starts under the Portuguese boss as Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Mourinho said of the resurgent midfielder:

I just try to play Dele in a position where the principles of play suit him. He’s playing well and he’s scoring goals. I can’t ask for more other than to keep him going.

After a first half where Rashford scored once and had several more chances, Alli stole the spotlight with some sublime skill before the interval.

Following a scramble in the Man United area, Serge Aurier (£4.8m) saw his shot from near the byline saved by David de Gea (£5.5m).

The ball spun up into the air before Alli appeared to conjure it back down, his first touch looping over a static United defence before he volleyed past the Red Devils’ Spanish stopper.

Rashford had opened the scoring after six minutes as his drive beat Paulo Gazzaniga (£4.5m) too easily at the keeper’s near post.

But the Argentinean then made a string of saves from Man Utd’s prime FPL asset, who saw a 35-yard shot tipped onto the bar before Gazzaniga denied the England striker again moments later. Rashford had already sent a wicked free-kick just wide in the 18th minute.

Hugo Lloris’ stand-in Gazzaniga was bested by Rashford again straight after the interval as the forward converted from the penalty spot after being fouled by Moussa Sisssoko (£4.9m).

Both managers agreed on the point that the Red Devils dominated before Alli’s goal, with Mourinho recognising that the game could have been beyond his team before the first half ended:

I think for 30 minutes they were not just better than us, they were much better than us. They were better than us in aggression and intensity, winning 50-50 duels. We were lucky.

Then at the end of the first half we were us, and United were worried. In the second half we made some adjustments and we thought we were going to win it. The second goal is hard to process We have to blame ourselves and I think United must be happy with the points.

While Mourinho was less than pleased with Spurs’ first-half showing, Solskjaer was effusive in praising his troops.

I thought that (the first half) was probably the best we’ve played for a long time. I thought we dominated the game, could’ve finished the game there and then. Some great saves from their goalkeeper but when they get the goal just before half time, you think about getting in here, settling all the heads and just go again.

We’re best when we’re on the front foot, attacking quickly and when we’re aggressive. The boys followed the plan and executed their skills all night.

Despite the absence of Anthony Martial (£7.7m) – who Solskjaer has ruled out “for a little while” – Rashford stayed in his usual wide-left position as Mason Greenwood (£4.3m) earned a rare start up front.

Rashford gave Aurier a torrid time all evening long and could have completed his hat-trick but got his feet slightly mixed up in the Spurs box just before the full-time whistle.

At the other end, his England counterpart Harry Kane (£10.9m) failed to have a shot inside the box as he put in another uninspiring Fantasy performance. Son Heung-min (£9.8m) also cut a peripheral figure but did get on the end of a good opportunity early in the second half.

As for the Lilywhites’ backline, they have now conceded two goals in each of Mourinho’s four games in charge of the club. The Humble One has had a definite impact in north London but the Spurs defence remains as vulnerable as before.

Manchester United XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Young, Maguire, Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka; Fred, McTominay; Rashford, Lingard, James; Greenwood.

Tottenham Hotspur XI (4-2-3-1): Gazzaniga; Vertonghen, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Aurier; Winks, Sissoko; Son, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura; Kane.

Is Aurier Nailed ? If not who's a threat to his place?

He's great going forward but still a liability in terms of defending since mou arrived. In fact both of uniteds goal came from his side.

First goal he recklessly slides in where Rashford easily beat him one on one. Second goal he was so far upfront where Sissoko had to slot in when he fouled Rashford

Nailed. Foyth is only right back under Poch, Mourinho does not play centerbacks as right backs if he is not forced to it. KWP is nowhere near even Aurier´s admittedly bad defending skills. He´s worse as he is not as good attacking. If he were unsatisfied Aurier would not have played 4 games in a row.
Rashford one on one with his face towards goals is one of the toughest part there is in PL to defend, Mourinho knows that.
I think part of the problem for Spurs erratic defence is that central midfield. Neither Winks or Sissoko is good enough to be that shield in front of backline, Dier is the only natural but he is too slow and immobile. Hence why Mourinho once he got Verthongen back plays with a slightly more defensive left back which slides in towards the centerbacks when they attack. But that gives them a little problem when teams counter on them as they are not totally used to it yet.

You just have to stick with players like Sterling, KdB etc and over the season they will come good - I have KdB because he is cheaper.

A midfield of KdB, Mane. Alli, Madds etc looks strong

Get a City mid for balance and oh, and stop taking needless hits and stick with a few players for a few weeks

this is a great core, just tinker around the edges or change one of them every two weeks or so if form drops

Thanks bud, i’m going City’less for a bit, i’m oddly comfortable with that, may bring KDB back when their fixtures turn better.
Hits will be shelved for a while indeed, and that’s good advice.
Rash may come in after Everton game so i don’t take a hit, and downgrade Tielemans to fund it. Could kick myself for not bringing Ings in. Bot been following gut instinct which i intend to do from now on. 🙂

Yeah could be requiring a bit more patience, i’ve been quite patient though already with the team, that’s what’s frustrating, so i changed it up with a low owned midfield. Have hardly caught any breaks with captains until Vardy’s outputs of late. Shall try to remain calm and more patient though with this side now.

Thats a no I believe? just the positioning of KDB as pretty much an 8, and Alli playing as a 9 and a half makes him a better FPL asset imo...ofcourse can't compare the quality and influence of both players

Just expecting the spectacular now from KDB, whereas Alli is pretty much a second striker. Makes me wanna shift to also fund Rashford move (basically looks like CR7 in his prime in current form) for after the Manchester derby.

2-3 assist and a “spectacular” is not beyond KDB any week. You hold him you have a 200 point season player for sure. Ali if he stays on it may have a slightly higher ceiling but not as sure he gets anywhere close to 200.

Yes but sir, KDB has 4 goals and 10 assists already 🙂
He's only another haul behind Mane as top scoring mid

Also want Rashford and this looks like a great way to fund a move for him, Jimmy is consistent but Rashford is showing some world class talent.

Agree, I wrote on here about Rashford's form a couple of weeks ago. I've had him since GW11. Since around the time he smashed in that freekick at Chelsea he has looked brilliant. Super confident at the moment and a great player

              The Mourinho effect in action!

Son > Alli might not be the worst move in the world

Why the hell didn’t Poch just humour Alli the last 2 seasons, the guy has lost none of that serious threat he displayed in 16/17 - it has been there the whole time just not used

After a bad GW I need to do some changes. I fell into the pulisic for mount trap and as tielemans is blanking every week I am considering now to do this:

    Pulisic to mount
    Tielemans to alli/son
    TAA / robertson to kelly

This will give me about 2.6m in the bank if I get alli and remove TAA. That makes it possible to get rashford for ings (unless rashford goes up before the city game)
Can also maybe get abraham back for ings also.

My team is like this atm:

    Pope - button
    TAA - Lundstram - Pereira - Robertson - Rico
    Salah - hayden - pulisic - tielemans - Kdb
    Jimenez - Ings - Vardy

Good moves or should I do some other moves

The trap is to go back to Mount again, stick with your choice. TAA and Robertson are up against Stacey and Rico next, not sure i would sell before that?

I'm aware of that, but as these moves can make me get Alli and rashford its really tempting to do it.
Liverpool just cant hold CS these days and even though bournemouth is really bad i believe that they will score atleast 1 goal as everyone seems to do against them.

i can see that one, it´s just that going back and forth on those Chelsea mids looks like bad transfer strategy in a time where rotation and injury will occur at high rate. To me, Tammy is the best option and would be tempted to just forego Chelsea mid and go Grealish or even Zaha. Might not be as high ceiling but nailed on and great fixtures to come.

If i do this now, i wont go back and forth anymore, then it will be to keep it as it is. If i shall get Tammy back i will have to get rid of pulisic and keep tielemans for another week to be able to afford it and i dont really want to get rid of him before tielemans, if at all.

    Have 2FT, 0.6 ITB

    Ryan
    TAA Soy Lundstrum Kelly Rico
    Mane KDB Maddison Mount Dendonker
    Vardy Rashford Jiminez

    A) Jiminez > Tammy, save FT (no Spurs, double Chelsea attack with Mount)
    B) Jiminez/Mount > Mousset/Alli (leaves no Chelsea)
    C) Jiminez/Maddison > Mousset/Son (leaves Mount, own Vardy)
    D) Ryan > Henderson and save
    E) Something else

Keep Jimi for the Norwich game. I’d be tempted by Mount to Grealish - getting ready for their nice run from gw18.

    TAA- Soy -Lund- Saiss- Lowton
    Mane-KDB- Maddison-Pulisic- El Ghazi

    Possible knee-jerky WC?

Button Tomori Tielemans Jimenez Connolly ----> Martin Kelly Grealish Abraham Rashford

Would have to do it now as for exact money.
