Ings scores again as Pukki continues recent revival

Southampton 2-1 Norwich City

Goals: Danny Ings (£6.2m), Ryan Bertrand (£4.8m) | Teemu Pukki (£6.6m)

Assists: James Ward-Prowse (£5.8m), Shane Long (£4.6m) | Alex Tettey (£4.5m)

Bonus Points: Ings x3, Pukki x2, Tetty x1

Danny Ings‘ (£6.2m) incredible scoring run was extended once again on Wednesday night as he found the net in Southampton’s 2-1 win over Norwich.

The former Liverpool and Burnley man simply won’t stop offering value to his ever-increasing ownership, which has practically doubled in the space of the last seven days.

Ings’ current goal-scoring tally for the season now stands at eight with seven of those coming in the last nine league matches.

Since Gameweek 7, Jamie Vardy (£9.9m), with a total of 11, is the only forward to have scored more times than Ings’ seven.

Long and Ings were Southampton’s front-pairing in Gameweek 15

Thankfully for the Southampton man, the appealing fixtures keep on coming with Newcastle (away), West Ham (home) and Aston Villa (away) their next three opponents. Gameweek 16 takes the Saints to St James’ Park, where the Magpies have not kept a clean sheet since Gameweek 8, conceding in each of their last three matches there.

Encouragingly, Ings could have netted himself a brace in Gameweek 15. His latest goal was a quality flicked header from a James Ward-Prowse (£5.8m) free-kick and there were plenty of chances for further returns.

In the second half, he brought a flick-on from Nathan Redmond (£6.2m) down with his shoulder and rifled an effort just past the far post.

Either way, this was another game which confirmed Ings as the main option worth considering from Southampton’s attack ahead of their ongoing appealing schedule.

The Saints have scored 11 times since Gameweek 7, with Ings involved in seven of them, equating to 63.6% of them.

Ward-Prowse has been quietly notching up attacking returns recently

There is every chance that Ward-Prowse may creep into consideration now that he has three goals and one assist in the last five matches, largely thanks to his role in set pieces.

It was these dead-ball situations that were the undoing of Norwich’s defence on Wednesday night.

Since the return of Christoph Zimmermann (£4.4m) in Gameweek 13, the Canaries have looked less vulnerable from open play at least.

But at St Mary’s their marking at set-pieces cost them. Nobody got close enough to Ings for the first goal while both Shane Long (£4.6m) and Ryan Bertrand (£4.8m) were able to make connections on Ward-Prowse’s 43rd minute, which led to the second.

Pukki has two goals and an assist in his last three outings

As for Norwich’s attack, that continues to improve with Teemu Pukki (£6.6m) now on three attacking returns in as many matches.

Admittedly, the Canaries did not start too brightly, Southampton dominating the possession early on, but after Daniel Farke made some alterations midway through the first half and changed personnel at half-time they got more of a foothold in the game.

Midway through the first-half, Norwich went from four at the back to three, with Ibrahim Amadou (£4.5m) dropping out of central midfield into his more natural position of centre-back between Ben Godfrey (£4.4m) and Zimmermann, which did help enhance the Canaries’ passing ability.

“I wanted to change the passing angles to get more control. It was slightly better but we weren’t able to get into dangerous areas. We changed in terms of tactics and personnel at half-time but the most important thing is that we played with more bravery and turned back to our game, not just because we were pressed.” – Daniel Farke

Farke’s tactical changes helped Norwich get back into the game

At half-time, Farke introduced Alex Tettey (£4.5m), and Marco Stiepermann (£5.2m) for Tom Trybull (£4.5m) and Amadou respectively, which had further positive effects.

Tettey screened the back-four very well and played the excellent through-ball for Pukki’s 65th-minute finish while Stiepermann’s presence as a number 10 helped ease any isolation for the centre-forward.

“The second half was a great reaction. We dominated the game and were able to create more chances. We brought more bodies closer to Teemu so we could play the final pass and come closer to the goal. We would have deserved to drive away with a point because we created a lot during the second half. If we stick to our principles, we are competitive at this level. If not, we have problems.” – Daniel Farke

“We just tried to change the formation a little bit at half-time with (Tettey) holding again and (Stiepiermann) a bit higher in the midfield. We were hoping to surprise them a little bit and I think that worked because we played much better in the second-half. Stiepi got in good positions where he could make things happen and Tetts with his experience helped so much on the pitch.” – Christoph Zimmermann

Tettey could be another important part of Norwich’s attempts at crawling their way out of the relegation zone.

After missing the 2-2 draw with Arsenal, Tettey was not quite fit enough to start Gameweek 15 but could be ready to help his side onto better things in a Gameweek 16 home meeting with Sheffield United considering how well he played in the second half at Southampton.

“Alex was great in the second half. Sadly, it was a bit too risky to play him from the start because of a slight problem with his quad. He wasn’t sure if he could fully sprint, but we were 2-0 back at half-time so it was worth the risk. He helped us stabilise our game but the whole team showed great character to show such a reaction as a young side. Each and every game is difficult, but we have to be brave, even away and with one day less to recover.” – Daniel Farke

Southampton XI (4-4-2): McCarthy; Bertrand, Bednarek, J Stephens, Cédric; Redmond, Hojbjerg, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo (Romeu 72′); S Long (Yoshida 85′), Ings (Adams 77′).

Norwich City XI (4-2-3-1): Krul; Byram, Godfrey, Zimmermann, Aarons; Trybull (Tettey 46′), Amadou (Stiepermann 46′); O Hernández, McLean, Cantwell (Buendía 83′); Pukki.

It's almost a new Gameweek already so we need a new Community Champion!

With two games still to go it looks like the Scouts may pick up a very narrow victory following Mane's 15 point haul.

Think you have the eye to pick the differentials and form a winning team vs the Scout Picks? We need a Community Champion to represent us vs the Scout Picks for Gameweek 16.

The Community Champion picks a team including a captain to go up against the Scout Picks, within a budget of 83m and in a playable FPL formation. Whichever Gameweek champion beats the Scout’s team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon Voucher!

If you're interested in applying, email Geoff (geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) with your FFS username and FPL Team ID.

The Champion will be picked 10pm tonight, so make sure to enter by then! The Champion then has until 11am Friday morning to send in their team.

    Good luck!

Current midfield is Mane, KDB, Raz, Pulisic, Cantwell. Want to bring Alli in. Should I swap him for Pulisic (think he'll be rested) or Raz? Somewhat inclined to give Raz the derby match before potentially shipping him, or is it just time to free up some funds? Welcome the advice.

If you have Tammy then Puli out, if not then not sure. Maybe keep Raz and sell KdB, bigger differential atm and I believe he will start kicking again.

Too much $ tied up in KDB, I've had him from the start, and feel he's a season keeper. Had Tammy, moved him for Jimmy, and now he's flagged again, but plan is Tammy or Rashford in for Jimmy GW 17.

Repost as didn't get any discussion before

Suggestions on this? 2FTs, 0.2 ITB

    Henderson (Button)
    TAA Lund Soy (Tomori, Rico)
    Mane KDB Son Mount (Cantwell)
    Vardy Abraham Jimenez

Current watchlist: Rashford, Aurier, Grealish, Alli, H Wilson

    A) Tomori > Kelly, then Mount, Jimenez > Rashford, Grealish the following week
    B) Tomori > Aurier
    C) Mount, Jimenez > Alli, Mousset

A is probably wise to free up funds going forwards. Is Tomori’s place now in doubt with Rudiger back? I assume Kelly will be back on the bench once Ward returns? Would be good to get some info on those two.
B Aurier would block the Rashford move, unless I’m happy to settle for a mid under 5.7m (probably no value there). Having Aurier is exciting, especially given Mourinho’s recent comments, but contribues towards a benching headache
C Double spurs mids could pay diviends over the next month or so. Jumping on Alli now for Burnley at home. Given his very low ownership, I don’t mind not getting him though. Mousset is obviously a great value pick but at the expense of Wolves talisman I’m not sure.

Recent opinions on Mount has clouded my judgement so much that I don’t know whether he is a fire to put out or not. Are there really better value players at that price? Grealish looks the standout option and I probably prefer him to Zaha who is likely to blank 75% of his upcoming games even if they are good fixtures (just my opinion). H Wilson could become a good option given upcoming fixture swing.

    Cheers!

A is probably the best, but keep in mind that Kelly is a pick for 3-4weeks. Shouldn’t be a problem though as you have Rico as well. I like Grealish and Rashford moves, planning to bring them for Jimi and Maddison in 2 weeks

Really wish i didn't own Salah. I find it so hard to ditch him. Him being rested in an annoying way makes it even harder to ditch as you know he'll definitely start v Bournemouth. Have Mane too otherwise that would make the decision easier. With an important champs league game in midweek though does that lean towards him being rested for Watford at home!!??

Should i just get rid to Son/Alli? Or should i hold for 2 more GW's?

Yeah tbf I did the exact same thing. Salah out for Kane trying to be clever. Took awhile to recover from that one. I guess Salah is as good as any player to hold onto, if you were ballsy you could (c) him for a potential rank boost. Obviously he can score at any time.

    A) Hold Jimenez

    Or

    B) Jimenez to Abraham for a -4?

Hold. Do for free next week.

Abraham limped off last night so could well miss Everton anyway

Hold unless you are on 2FT and nothing else to do imo

I think Gazza himself is an even bigger problem than the Spurs defence, he just has no reflexes, takes him ages to react.

Yes I'd do it if you have nothing more urgent.

I have no idea which gk to pick. Money isn't really an issue I have 3M in bank.
    A) Guaita (good fixtures)
    B) Henderson
    C) Other. Who?

Hi guys please RMT, 0FT and 0.9 ITB

    Pope
    TAA Soy Lunds
    Zaha Mane(c) Son KDB
    Jimenez Vardy Ings

    Subs: Button Cantwell Rico Tomori

Haha, likely to be my exact starting XI when i transfer out Salah for Son. Only difference on the bench being Kelly and Hayden for Tomori and Cantwell.

Save this week imo but maybe look to upgrade Jim to Tammy next week if he's fit?

2 FTs, but not sure what to do here.
    Help?

    Gazzaniga 4.0
    TAA Lundstram Soyuncu Willems Rico
    Salah KDB Son Pulisic Dendoncker
    Vardy Jimenez Ings

    Nothing in the bank.

KDB is the only one who seems out of place, but he is so consistent.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Past 5 Merseyside derbies had a total of 6 goals. Yesterdays game had 7.

True. But a lot has changed at Everton. Not much at Bournemouth. I'll consider it.

Willems to Kelly or something like that just so you don't waste a transfer? Wouldn't do Salah to Mane this week.

    Pope
    TAA Robbo Lundstram
    Mane Son Pulisic KDB
    Vardy Ings Abraham

    Button Soy Cantwell Rico

    2 FT 0.0ITB

Want rid of pope but can't afford anyone. Don't really want to burn a FT...

    Button to Martin?
    Rico to Kelly?
    Son to Alli?

I'm thinking of Son to Alli myself but double guessing Son is always a risk.

      I think Kelly

I did Robbo to Aurier to fund Tielemens>Alli. Downgrade is easy if you have TAA too!

Salah in my team since gw1... surely now with his rest, be madness to lose before bmouth and Watford??

I have mane as well! If I had mo and no mane, then I'd def to that, but moving salah for anyone else, may be good for my team value but not overall points for the next 2..

Imho, Salad is gold because he's been rested. I expect a boatload of rotations for GW16 - it's going to be ugly.

Robbo & Zaha to Aurier & Alli for -4?

      Not for me.
-4 robbo and zaha, dont think it pays off.
Not massively keen on aurier,so that doesn't help.
