Who are the best Arsenal players to consider under Mikel Arteta?

Won one, drawn one, lost one: Mikel Arteta has had a so-so start to life as Arsenal manager by way of Premier League results.

Monday night’s victory over Leeds United in the FA Cup was also a Jekyll-and-Hyde display, with the Gunners very much second-best to their Championship opponents in the first half before drastically improving after the break.

While the scorelines haven’t always gone Arteta’s way, there have been visible signs of improvement under his stewardship.

Should Fantasy managers be renewing their interest in Arsenal assets, then?

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m) aside, we have largely dodged the Gunners this season: the Gabon international is the only one of Arteta’s squad who can boast a double-digit ownership in Fantasy Premier League at present.

FPL bosses may have been sufficiently scarred by Unai Emery’s team selections or the Londoners’ dismal away form in the preceding 18 months to be tentative about revisiting Aubameyang and co for now.

Still, the fixtures demand our interest.

Arsenal face only two of the current top seven between now and Gameweek 32 (the clash with Manchester City in Gameweek 28 may well be rearranged due to the Citizens’ likely involvement in the EFL Cup final) and sit fourth in our Season Ticker as a result.

With that in mind, we follow up our recent articles on Watford and Everton by looking more closely at the impact that Arteta has had on the Gunners.

Too much options for Alli replacement is like a headache. Maddison, Martial, Richa, Mahrez, Dilva, Sarr - all make some points. Might just keep Alli in the end!

      • 12 Years

Yes imo, Southampton much stronger than Villa and could only muster one goal, that’s quite poor. Can’t see a battering for Southampton either. Still undecided but swaying from Vardy now, people expecting Vardy to pick up where he left off, ain’t that simple.

It was all one way traffic though with over 20 shots to 3.

Also Southampton will set up differently to Villa - who are a much stronger proposition with Mings back.

Don’t see a battering but Leicester must be favourites to score and Vardy the most likely candidate. He’s had a few hauls of course but it’s his consistency that puts him out front.

How much more attacking threat does Sidibe offer in comparison to Holgate? Does Holgate get forward at all or is he a target for set pieces?

Target for set-piece you can say but he is pretty good at spoiling those chances

But somehow he finds the ball. If I am not wrong he had one shot one target in each of his last 4 games - 3 being saved and a tap in ruled offside.

Totally agree. 24 is just one week and people wrecking their teams.
I find it odd that if you start the season with say Aguero and Kane in a team people say ' whats the point of owning a 12 M plus player if you dont capt him?".
Come game week 25 thats exactly the situation and now it seems to be fine

It's all about capitalising at the right moments, Salah could make or break that DGW for us all

            • 14 Years
            4 years, 2 months ago

Could do. Having rashford over greenwood or maddi over 4.5 could also work. As could holding kdb

        2. SackWenger
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 2 months ago

But you will have been able to capitalise and even the one you don't captain will be like a captain as you'll get two games from them. Add to that 4 games from your captain and 2 from say TAA, it's a very worthy gamble. The fall of the fixtures that GW with an FA Cup tie in between helps avoid rotation too as Liverpool will most likely rest the main players in the cup. Often a double gameweek is 3/4 days apart across the 2 games and more susceptible to rotation. Even with a slight niggle there is more time to make the 2nd game.

But this is not just about Wolves, you will most likely be keeping these players for the next 5 or 10 games (or even longer) with their fine fixture run, plan for that.

I have Mo Mane but I’m treating it as a long term call - DGW could fall any which way after all

My rationale is with TV of 107 plus I can afford the more expensive double up which should outscore the value double defence. The one compromise is a weak looking bench. Plenty of fire power elsewhere in starting eleven

You might as well build the great wall of China in your living room if you planning on going into DGW without Salah. I was firmly in the DD camp, had Robbo and TAA this GW gone. But sold Robbo this week to manoeuvre Salah into my team for GW24. I just dont want that feeling of spoiling my underpants each time he gets a chance.

Salah is on 120 points for the season. Last season he 259 and the season before over 300. Plenty more points to come yet.

B: Ryan >> Fabianski...give Ota one more gw to see if he plays now that he is fit. Then still do the moves as per A but by gw24

    C: Otamendi >> Soy...and then Aurier / Martial / Rashford >> Cathcart / Mane / DCL by gw24

    D: Something else

Thanks for the memories Aurier, but it's time to say good bye. Best cheapie to replace him? 4.8 to spend but there might be price chances that eat the budget.

    A) Stephens
    B) Guilbert
    C) Kiko
    D) Catchart

Rest of the backline is Ryan, TAA, Sidibe, Lundy, Rico. Don't fancy Everton or Brighton double ups.

He's 4.3 and has a dgw. That's the only attraction right now but if Moyes sorts out the defense and Fabianski performs to his best, could be a great enabler.

How does this WC team look? Dropped the idea of getting 3 Pool players right now, hoping this allows to make the choice of double defense or double mid just before dgw24 depending on form and team balance.
Did VVD+DCL> Lunds+Jimmy from my earlier draft as Jimmy has 2 great fixtures and I wouldn't be playing double Pool defense for the next 2 anyway. Also have Richa, so 3 Everton looked rather too much to have.

    Team:
    Ryan, Button
    TAA, Soy, Sidibe, Lunds, Williams
    KDB, Mane, Richa, Madds, Martial
    Vardy, Jimmy, Greenwood

Does it sound like a good plan?
    1) Save FT next gw
    2) with 2FTs in 24, get either Salah or Robertson/VVD depending on form and team balance.

I wouldn't be planning transfers on a WC, make it work for the next few weeks so you're not restricted by other issues coming up

I'm not planning for the next week though. And also, it is for a reason as there is a dgw in 24 and getting double mid or double defense from Pool is a burning question right now. Might get clearer near the deadline on the better option. I know what you are suggesting though. That is why I bought Lundstram now instead of 25 which was the earlier plan. Thank you for the input.

Anyone else fear that KDB could be rested this weekend?
Might want to captain him but Pep rotations puts me off a bit.

Keep wondering about when it will happen. But KdB Sterling have more minutes this season than both Mo and Mane.

Has Pep really shaken things up this season that much? Defensive changes have been largely dictated by injury and the need to bring Ota on for one pointers. Up front Kun Jesus has been less predictable but that’s pretty much it.

      Heretical thought I know

Well, KDB seems the most essential city player for the squad.
Wondering when he will get rested is just waste of time. KDB is season keeper anyway.

Think 0.1 on Holgate won’t happen which leaves me choosing one of this lovely lot to start

    Rico
    Kiko
    Kelly

    Any strong opinions?

Kelly might lose his place soon.

      BOU are so unpredictable.

I’d go for Kiko — they’ve started looking good since the new manager got appointed.

Think Kelly is safe for a while in fact

As a Palace fan I’m “confident” no new signings will come before deadline day. Even if Ward returns then Kelly will almost certainly shift to the left where there is less than no be available.

But sort of agree on Rico - I’ve failed each time I’ve played him and I’m generally allergic to Bournemouth defence. 59th minute Kiko might get another whirl.

If I go Rico it’ll be because he has the biggest upside and as they’re all likely 2 pointers I may as well gamble

City are likely to have their fixture changed in GW28 as will Leicester or Villa as it’s the League cup final on 1st March.

Not sure why the reference at this stage to Leicester when it’s not a done deal though, more like City will be alright after their win earlier this week though.
