How one Fantasy manager turned $2 into a $30,000 prize with FanTeam’s WCOFF

A remarkable effort by new daily Fantasy sports player fscottl saw the UK-based rookie seal first place in the World Championship of Online Fantasy Football (WCOFF).

fscottl turned a €2 qualifying tournament entry fee into a €30,000 prize as he was crowned the winner of WCOFF 2019.

It was a thrilling finale to this latest event.

A whopping 116 participants qualified through satellite competitions or paid the entry fee of €1,050, meaning that the €100,000 guaranteed prize pool grew to €116,000. The first prize was endowed with €30,000, meanwhile.

After the first round last Saturday, fscottl took the lead with 88 points, well helped by Kevin De Bruyne (13 points), Sadio Manè (10 points) and Anthony Martial (9 points).

After the final match of Gameweek 20, there were only 11 points separating 20th place to the leader, so the championship was wide open before the last round started on New Year’s Day.

As the first matchday of 2020 came to a conclusion with Liverpool v Sheffield United, fscottl, who won the WCOFF entry fee of €1,050 via a €2 satellite, found himself in seventh place before the last game.

Many of the above teams had all 11 of their players finished, while fscottl had both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manè remaining.

With Manè scoring a goal and Alexander Arnold on course to keep a clean sheet, fscottl took over the first-place lead as the ‘least expensive team’ tiebreaker came into effect, with three users all on 146 points.

According to FanTeam‘s scoring system, midfielders and attackers get an extra point for playing the full match.

Mané got subbed off around the 70th-minute mark and, with only minutes left of the match, gaffel had Mohamed Salah remaining. This meant that if Salah played the full match, gaffel would win the WCOFF and push fscottl down into second place and a €20,000 prize instead.

fscottl‘s prayers were answered as Jurgen Klopp subbed off the Egyptian with only 40 seconds left of stoppage time, thus earning fscottl €10,000 extra and the prized WCOFF trophy.

In an interview with FanTeam, the newly crowned World Champion of Fantasy Football said:

I used to play a Fantasy game on another platform. It was a weekly game. I was doing ok on it but it was slowly dying, there weren’t many people entering and the prize money was going down. So, I started looking around for another game and I stumbled across FanTeam. I enjoyed the format and just took it from there.

The point system is simple and great. If you look at some other games, the scoring system is way too confusing. It is too difficult to work out what people are getting points for while you are watching the game, and don’t know what the results are until way after the end of the games.

With Fanteam, on the other hand, you know exactly what’s going to happen to your Fantasy points when something happens in the game which makes watching the games a lot more exciting. It’s also great that they update their site very quickly. A really big plus is that after 60 minutes, the clean sheet points are shown, so you know, if your team keeps the clean sheet, you’ll stay up there.

I know a lot of people use bookmakers but, in my opinion, Fantasy football is better and cheaper than betting with a bookie. I know many people can lose large sums on games like Sheffield United v Watford just to make that game exciting.

But with Fantasy football you can spend €2 and get much more excitement and make more money than with a bet. How many times have you heard of someone betting first goalscorer only to have that player score second? With Fantasy football you get the same thrill from either and often have an interest right up until the final whistle.

Instead of gambling on a game with a bookmaker, I suggest those people try Fantasy sports. You have the chance to win a lot of money at a small cost while still experiencing the thrill.

The experience has been amazing and the win has been huge for me. I told my wife and my kids I had won this competition when they were all together and they were so excited, so that was a very nice moment for me, but it has also made my entire family really happy.

I can honestly say I have never dealt with any company in any industry who are so quick and helpful with their customer support. I have seen quite a few Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) come and go in my time and know how difficult it is to create such a great product and I think you have probably got the balance just right. That, combined with the ease of use of the website and app, makes this an amazing product – easy to say from someone who is €30,000 richer because of it!

Fanteam is the biggest Daily Fantasy Sports platform in Europe. Weekly Premier League Tournaments with a guaranteed prize pool of €50,000 are topped by big events like the WCOFF. Make sure to register on Fanteam for a chance to be the next big winner of life-changing money.

I think I do too. I think I'm being swayed too much by Grealish being the more expensive option.

Norwich have the better fixture and Cantwell has the better stats. Will probably go with Cantwell.

Rashford & Targett > Ings & TAA for free? Gives me the following team this week:

    Gazza

    TAA / Soyuncu / Lundstram

    KDB / Mane / Grealish / Sarr

    Aguero (C) / Ings / Vardy

    Button / Rico / Dendonker / Kelly

exactly what I'm doing, however, I'm staggering the moves to avoid a hit..

Still kicking myself for transferring Rashford in (instead of Ings) for Connolly in GW18, which necessitated Robertson>Rico.....I've lost about 60 points because of that.......

    Afternoon all,

Hope everyones had a good start to the week.

Could really help with some advice if anyones got a minute or so, with plans moving forward to enables me to go with 3x Liv for DGW.

    My team;

    Ramsdale(!) Button
    TAA Soyuncu Lundy Rico(!) Kelly
    KDB Salah Richarlison Grealish Dendo
    Jimenez Vardy Abraham

    3.0 ITB & 2 FTs.

Planning on bringing in Mane for Richarlison next week but of course would rely on me downgrading a couple of players (and even worse now that Ramsdale is injured & Rico benched).

Also now tempted to bring in Firmino or Robertson as they're much easier transfers, but Mane ownership could kill me.

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

    Thank you!

Could do Abraham or Jimenez > Firmino for straight swap.

Or Jimenez, Abraham & Grealish > Ings, Greenwood & Mane?

      Or Soyuncu > Robertson.

      Similar spot for me.
Easy fix is Soy for Robo
Double move is Rash and Maddy for DCL and Mane

Normally would dbl Pool defence but having Mo and Mane for DWG screams 100+ points.

Mahrez hasn't gone no more then 1 game without attacking returns since the first part of the season, thats even more consistent

    Current WC team
    Foster (Button)
    TAA Soy Lund Holgate Williams
    Salah KDB Sterling Fleck Hayden
    Vardy Rashford Greenwood

    GW 24
    Sterling - Mane
    GW 25
    Mane/Salah - Mahrez/Richarlison
    Greenwood - Ings

Sound plan or crazy talk? Any better suggestions? I like the idea of Sterling this weekend as he is sure to start after being rested last weekend

If someone gets injured you are forced into a hit. Sterling could still be worth the risk

Obvs need to be lucky with injuries. Sterling could haul big this weekend and then I’m set up for Liverpool triple up... cautiously optimistic haha

    A) TAA , Robo , Salah
    or
    B) Salah, Mane, TTA

Regardless of team balance who do you think is going to score more?

Would you keep Rashford and transfer out Vardy?

2 FT's, 0.7 ITB. Hate to waste a FT but not sure what move to make.

    Ryan - Button
    TAA, Soy, Lund (Baldock, Kelly)
    Mo, Mane, KDB, Cantwell (Traore)
    Vardy, Rash, Ings.

Welcome any thoughts. Cantwell probably sees the door next week. Traore > Doucoure?

Traore to Doucoure/Sarr/Grealish sounds the best to me. Kelly to Stephens another good one imo

    Ryan
    TAA Lundstram Rico (Kelly Taylor)
    Salah Mane KDB Traore (Dendoncker)
    Vardy Ings Maupay

What would you do here with £2.4 and 1FT:

    A. Save
    B. Upgrade Kelly/Rico
    C. Upgrade Traore (Martial/Maddison)

    1) Which 3 Liverpool players are you getting?
    2) Are you triple captaining any of them?
    3) Robertson or Firmino?

Have both. Think I will play Lundstram for attacking returns and the rumours above about Holgate rest.
