Scoutcast Episode 317 – Is the Vardy party over?

With one blank, two no-shows and a mere assist over the last four Gameweeks, Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) is not looking in the best of form of late.

Coupled with his zero shots against Southampton last time out, some in the community are considering ditching the Leicester City man to make room for Liverpool assets ahead of an enticing Double Gameweek 24.

Joe is joined by FPL Family’s Sam and Lee to discuss the sacrifices that will be needed to maximise the upcoming favourable fixture run for the Reds.

Could even the incredibly consistent Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) make way for the likes of Sadio Mane (£12.4m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.3m)? One of our trio is certainly considering this bold play.

True to form, though, Joe believes he has a dullard solution to keeping all his current gems and maxing out on Liverpool.

Elsewhere, the bargains among Southampton and Watford’s troops are looking too good to ignore. This is especially the case regarding Saints’ star striker Danny Ings (£6.8m). Meanwhile, there’s less love for the West Midlands teams with Wolves and Aston Villa players among those likely to depart our trio’s line-ups.

Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) takes centre-stage in our Rough with the Smooth round-up of the community’s Gameweek 22. Joe takes his turn to pick a differential, there are clean sheets to consider and this episode wraps up with the Scoutcasters’ transfer and captaincy plans for the Gameweek 23 fixtures.

Is anyone thinking of after playing the Fabianski card just to replace him with Allison as i will have to be making major hits otherwise?

As long as you're happy with Allison as one of your Liverpool players long term then there's no issues with it, but keep in mind those spots are pretty valuable!

Well here the team otherwise a WC maybe playe d too early

        Fab (button)

        Rico, Kelly, Digne, TAA, Lunds
        Grealish, Zaha, Alli, KDB, Salah
        DCL, Vardy, Jiminez

Would have to to do -8 hits in two weeks with Mane or Robertson, unless i replace Roberson with Digne

Zaha Alli Jiminez Fabianski will all have to go.

    Hi all

Iv had Mane + TAA all season and will capt Mane for sure and may Tc him...

With this in mind is it really essential to get Salah?? Would mean a hit and Rashford out...

Whereas I can do nothing and just swap DCL to Firmino this keeping Rash/Vardy/Kdb and the like.

Even taking a hit can upgrade Grealish to someone for that gw instead....

    What ye think??

Think Firmino may cover Salah but with the chances Salah gets, and the explosiveness he has shown over the last few seasons, its a risk. You can say that with those who dont Mane as well but sometimes its difficult to fit them all in.

Ha,ha. I’m on the other side. I have Salah and TAA. Will TC Salah and probably not get Mane in. Would want Mane to blank even if I got him because of EO.

Think all popular Pool assets would most probably not blank, and not having 1 or another will always be a risk. But in this gw, its all about who scores more than the other which will define its success imo.

Tricky - Rash out seems intrinsically wrong

It’s not just one week though - 25 on are better fixtures than the DGW.

Bobby could work in the away double but hard to see him competing on even terms from 25 on.

While looking to triple up on LIV players, we look for enablers.
Although I don't feel like adding Mane to Salah & TAA, I still need some money to upgrade 1 of my defs to Robertson.
I'm very interested in Doucoure (5.6m) & Trossard (5.8m), short or even midterm if they do well.
Watford, who have improved lately, play TOT AVL EVE BHA in the next 4, while Brighton face AVL BOU WHU WAT.
      Thoughts?

Many managers are scrambling to get in Salah, Mane and TAA for the DGW, compromising on 3rd striker / 4th midfielder positions. But what about the period moving forward till around GW30? Is it worth shifting to a defensive double-up after the DGW or losing Salah/Mane to spread the funds around during that period.

        What’s a compromise for you?

I have the below with Traore first sub and do have TAA. Doesn’t feel like too much of a compromise but will reassess after DGW.

        KDB - Mane - Salah - Grealish
        Vardy - Ings - Jimi.

        1. Rover
          • 7 Years
          4 years, 2 months ago

I have DCL instead of Jimi and would consider Grealish a compromise given their fixtures after the winter break.

There’s a good run of fixtures for Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves and these are teams that are more likely to reward us in attack than in defence.

Team set up going forward - what are your thoughts on team structure (formation and quality of bench)?

With so many cheap defensive options that can play week in week out (Lundstram, Holgate, Bednarek, Kelly/Rico), is it viable to play 442 or 433 in some weeks? What about a 5 man midfield due to fund availability ?

    Salah KDB Maddison Cantwell
    Vardy Rashford Ings

Want to get mane in for Maddison next week, so doing anything with Pope means a hit next week (only other way would be KDB to mane).

Erm I would rather sell kdb for that tough period than vardy !

Perhaps even do a switcharoo kdb for salah then ? Lose 0.3 to buy a stack of points

that was my original thinking, one good player for another, one has dgw, 2 fixtures more up to gw 28
                then good fixtures, cheers

    Söyüncü, Digne, Lundstram
    Grealish, Maddison, De Bruyne, Mané
    Abraham, Vardy (C), Rashford

    Button, Gomez, Rico, Dendoncker

Is it ok to roll the FT?
    Also, is the bench right?

      What’s the Liverpool plan?

There is an argument to play Gomez over rashford! I’m benching martial

You could also play Gomez over Lund to hedge it

Using the two FTs in 24 to do Rico + Tammy to TAA and Maupay.

Thats the conundrum . Gomez or Rashford.

Think Lund might nick something against Arsenal. Plus Arsenal without PEA might be a bit toothless.

The way fixtures are split, I think it'll be safer to captain a player from the 1st weekend, just because we'll have fitness updates 1-2 days before. Captaining someone who plays a week later would be very risky.

Me. I TCed Salah to great effect last year and I am hoping for a similar output this year. Robbo and TAA are just tremendous picks.

I’m one third between getting robbo vs mane vs firmino to go with Mo and Trent

Have 3m itb and two FTs next week so can easily do Abraham martial to mane plus dcl or Maupay

    My tuppence worth....

A fair proportion more people will Tc salah v mane

Both can explode. Firmino probably won’t and no one will really Tc firmino

If you have salah and Trent it’s more viable to go for firmino or robbo as third pool

If you have mane and Trent it’s perhaps more important to get salah

Bizarre conclusion given I think it’s probably equal chance salah and mane explode

Mané has way higher ownership than Salah and will likely have way more captainers as well as triple captainers.

Stats fairly arbitrary in the sense that why not take it back to include last year? When mane didn’t fire away

Remember salah was basically injured for about four away games too

Fair point. Liverpool have only scored 1 goal in 3 of the last four games

First comes Utd which could be a tough game based on prior history, 4 days later wolves not an easy fixture.

I’m not sure the dgw is going to be as explosive as people would like. That said there is always west ham

A few weeks ago I was set to attack gw24 with both LIV mids, adding Mane to already owned Salah & TAA.
That would require sacrificing at least one of Vardy, Rashford, Maddison.
In gw24, MUN play BUR(h), LEI play WHU(h).
There may be double digits for the players mentioned above.
Robertson, playing for the best team, who are in great defensive form, can match or even outscore a LIV mid in 2 games.
Laporte did great in last season's doubles.
In my opinion, TAA Robbo plus the LIV mid you own, triple captained, is the ideal strategy.
I've seen many being afraid of going Mane-less in gw24 due to ownership.
Salah & Mane are both in good form. Pick 1 of them, TC him & you'll be fine.

Thanks. What about firmino ? I can do

        A. Rico to robbo straight. Leaves me with five viable defenders which is a bench issue and transfer waiting to happen
        B. Martial. Abraham to mane. Dcl for free next week. Can roll with this for a little while
        C. Abraham to firmino

        Thoughts ?

I like A, since it allows you to keep Martial & Abraham. Robbo is a great pick.
It's good to have a good bench, you never know when you'll need it & it may enable saving a transfer where you'd use 1 just to field a full XI.

Evening all, any thoughts or changes to this squad?

    Ryan-Button
    TAA-VVD-Soy-Lund-Kelly
    Mane-KDB-Martial-Grealish-Cantwell
    Vardy-Tammy-Ings

I burned a FT last week and have 2FT again but can’t see anything that really requires changes.

Only thing is possibly setting up to remove VVD and get Salah for gw24.

    Any ideas appreciated, cheers!

You need to decide on your Liverpool plan. If it’s two defenders then perhaps Kelly to Williams for money

If salah or firmino is the plan then downgrade vvd now

        • 8 Years

Yeah I think that’s the play, don’t fancy VVD getting attacking returns against united and I think salah will outscore him in the double

Wouldn’t downgrade him to trash though as soy isn’t reliable. Kelly is finished soon and Lund up and down too. Basically I think you need someone who would be a first choice. Like holgate
