Is now the time to sell Leicester City defenders?

Having recorded just one clean sheet in seven league matches, Leicester City defenders are not quite the attractive options they were during their autumnal purple patch.

Three of the Foxes’ first-choice backline are indeed among the top five most-sold Fantasy Premier League defenders of Gameweek 23 at the time of writing.

Jonny Evans (£5.3m) is the only Leicester defender to have registered an attacking return over the last seven Gameweeks, meanwhile, and the loss of key midfielder Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) to injury would seem to further dent the clean sheet prospects of Brendan Rodgers’ side.

With some Fantasy managers already losing faith, are we rushing to judgement about the Foxes’ defence?

In this article, we look at some of the key underlying data in our Members Area to see if Leicester’s wider defensive numbers have dipped during their recent run.

I’d not considered a WC anytime soon and planned to WC around the doubles up until an hour ago and now I’ve pulled the trigger. Had a decent team on paper but wasn’t happy treading water or losing rank.

I’ve not desperately tried to be different but looks like I have a few punts now but I’ve got 1.1m in the bank to run away from them if they fail.

    McCarthy
    TAA / Robertson / Sidibe
Salah / KDB / Son / Hudson Odoi
    Aguero (c) / Ings / Maupay

    Button / Webster / Williams / Hayden

Even though I had a good team on paper I’ve actually made 11 changes.

Keep an sufc defender. Either Baldock, Lund or Stevens. Look at our fixtures after gw25. Will hurt rank loads if you don't

I’m a Wednesday fan so I’ve avoided them all season and I’m not planning on changing that.

Although I can truly say, fair play to you this season. You’ve been excellent.

No wonder the poor rank then :p honestly get Stevens or Baldock... Maybe even triple up with fleck loool.

Cheers, yh I'm buzzing... Expected us to be safe but not do this well. 🙂

Before Xmas came around I was 4k, thankfully my slide to 50k wasn’t from missing hauls Lundstram et al.

I thought you would just make the cut, but you’ve certainly done a lot better than that.

Yeah. My season aim before the season started and all season is top 1k.

My team wasn’t bad before WC but I still think it was a good move and the right time for me.

Son could be great but spurs look a bit meh at the moment, not sure if he's worth the cash

Yep I can’t argue against any.

Son is a punt. He’s a great FPL asset in general so I’m hoping that prevails over Spurs poor form.

Williams will be nailed to the bench and Webster isn’t a stater just someone to autosub in if needed so I’m happy even if they aren’t great picks.

Maupay could be a very poor choice but I’m looking to take the risk for the next two (AVL & bou) and then reasses.

fair dos, if you're looking for differentials someone like Son could definitely be worth the risk, i just feel happier with the likes of madds/rich, or even grealish/martial etc

i'd go dunk over webster even if it's a few extra quid, or as sparkes says blades have excellent fixtures from gw25 but fair play if you are avoiding

No CHO isn’t nailed. Certainly a punt.

Vardys our already, the values been lost (I bought him at 9m) so he’s not coming back for a while. Plus I’m banking on Leicester slowing down and also having a blank in GW28.

To be fair, betting against Varda is one of the only ways you’ll be able to climb above 50k aside from Maupay, Son and Kun (C).

I’m getting Son in for Sterling next week for the Norwich game. What a player.

May want to consider getting another playing GK now on WC to potentially avoid having to use a FT later down the track when you plan to use bench boost.

Other than that, the only thing I really don't like is the Hudson Odoi pick.

Thanks. The keeper point is a very good one. I started trawling though they and then just thought that even though it wastes a transfer down the line I’m going to pick round the doubles so that I can see who’s got the best DGW.

    cantewell+jiminez >mahrez+greenwood ???

i know cant and jimi have reasonable fixtures this week (one would be benched anyway) but jimi has tough fixtures coming and low on form, and i'm unlikely to play cantwell any time soon, mahrez seems a more explosive pick

greenwood could get a few more minutes if rash is proper crooked, would be bench fodder anyway

Yup... Besic has been great every time he's played and Lundstram has looked knackered recently... Got subbed last game and was blowing after 30 mins. But still dangerous at times so it's quite difficult. If I was on a wc I think I'd double on Baldock, and Stevens tbh...

5 red arrows and a rank drop from 72K to nearly 700K. Something had to be done so hit the WC button.

    McCarthy. Lewis
    Gomes, Lund, Soy, Williams, Tanganga
    Salah, Mane, KDB, Mahrez, Son,
    Vardy, Ings, Greenwood.

Going big in midfield has left the defense a bit iffy.

That’s risking a lot in defence for the forward lines which includes a non nailed Mahrez and Greenwood. I’d downgrade Salah and go double pool defence with this structure and spread the cash about for a more balanced side. It looks a bit unhinged atm.

Unpopular opinion: the Liverpool full-backs have a higher ceiling than the attackers.

Salah and Mane may score a lot but it's not often that they score more than one a game. And if LIV are suddenly in the mood to grind out results, it will probably be the defenders that do better in the bonus points. Also, you can always count on Robbo and Trent to get assists.

Suddenly I have a very strange urge to TC Trent in DGW24. But knowing me that won't happen and I'll be boring and put it on Mane.

How can defenders haul and get assists if the mids aren't scoring? Don't fancy 2 away CS for Pool either for the DGW...

What?! At least one game there is a clean sheet in the DGW, had to be.
Defenders more likely to haul with the added clean sheet points i think he’s getting at.

Say a CS and one assist from Trent... that's 11 for the DGW. A pool mid needs only a goal and some bonus points to match that

I was thinking this ^ Firmino is a beast away from home, can see at least a goal in each. More inclined to get him instead of Robbo, even with the added clean sheet potential

I've been debating Vardy or Rashford out for Firmino. Decision maybe made for me, otherwise would have moved Vardy

Can see Vardy doing ok at Burnley, again at West Ham. Sounds like a plan.

Morning all, my original plan was Doherty / Chilwell -> Robbo next week, but with Rashford potentially out, is it worth taking a hit to do Madds & Rash -> Mane & Greenwood instead?

    A) Doherty / Chilwell -> Robbo next week (FT)
    B) Rash -> Greenwood (-4) this week and Madds -> Mane next week (FT)
    C) wait for news next week and do both transfers in B if Rash looking likely to be out vs Burnley (-4)

    Guita
    TAA, Doherty, Chilwell
    Cantwell, Madds, KDB, Salah
    Vardy, Rash, DCL

    4.0, Traore, Lund, Kelly

    0 FT, 1.5m ITB

Wouldn't bring in Greenwood for a -4, doesn't make sense. Has to be A for me as I think Rashford won't be out more than 1 week.

are people panicking by transferring out Rashford or has been there some news he's likely to miss this week?
    +70k transfers in
    -150k transfers out this round

every chance he would blank vs liverpool anyway, what about keeping for fixtures after that?

Many are probably getting rid to fund money for Liverpool assets anyway... easy transfer out for many if they see a yellow flag

Which of these 2 sides do you prefer for GE24, A or B? I can do both reasonably easily, however Team B will require a 4 point hit.

    Team A:
    McCarthy
    TAA(vc), Robbo, Kelly (Lundstram, Rico)
    Mane(TC), KDB, Maddison, Grealish (Dendoncker)
    Vardy, Rashford, Ings

    Team B:
    McCarthy
    TAA, Kelly, Williams (Lundstram, Rico)
    Salah(TC), Mane(vc), KDB, Grealish (Dendoncker)
    Vardy, Abraham, Ings

Boils down to Robbo, Maddison and Rashford v Williams, Salah and Abraham.

Play or bench Rashford considering he might not play vs Liverpool?

If bench, who to play instead?
    A) Traore
    B) Lund

    Have Mane and TAA

Option 1: VvD + Holgate + Fleck + Sarr and save transfer next week

Option 2: Sidibe + Ward + Martial + Hayden and Vardy >>> Firmino for GW24

        Ohh
        You on WC right ?
        That 0.1m hurts i know 😀

I am pretty high on Rashford since last few GW's. He blanked twice in a row after I got him but been patient with him. Also, looks like we're signing Bruno for sure this window. Can only improve our attacking potential !

    WC ACTIVE
    Thoughts?
And any ideas on something g better as I'm trying to catch up in ML by about 100 points

    Ryan, McCarthy
    TAA, sidibe, Stephens, Lund, williams
    Sterling, mane, son, fleck, dendonker
    Aguero, Ings, greenwood.

Sterling becomes salah for gw 24!

Wildcard frustrations, unsure whether the Mahrez punt is the wisest (as he has burned me before) after selling Rashford. Tried fitting in Aguero a few ways but didn't like it much.
This is how it currently looks with 0.7itb, thoughts most welcome so I can get this bad boy locked and loaded:

    Henderson
    Trent Digne Dunk
    Salah Mane Son Richarlison Mahrez
    Ings Maupay
    (Button Stephens Greenwood Williams)
    0.7

    1. Amey
      • 5 Years

That is as good midfield it can be.
Strikers looks poor though as a third person view. Maupay is awful at converting the chances.
      I don't rate Everton too.
You can think about downgrading Digne + swapping Richarlison for a striker (can be anyone, placeholder for Vardy/Rashford ??)
Vardy & Rashford alongside Ings is the best strike force IMHO

Cheers mate, yeah Maupay is a gamble... but those fixtures might just make it viable. Vardy and Rashford gone for the short-term but can always get one back in the future. Richarlison is the one I'm going to be stubborn with, he's done me proud and can't get rid for the next 3-4 fix at least.
