Mane, Abraham and Vardy injury updates ahead of FA Cup fourth round weekend

The Premier League takes a brief hiatus this weekend as the fourth round of the FA Cup takes centre stage.

Fourteen top-flight clubs remain in the competition and most of the Premier League managers whose sides are still involved delivered press conferences on Thursday or Friday.

There were some key injury updates, too.

Sadio Mane came off after just half an hour of Liverpool’s first Double Gameweek 24 match on Thursday evening and the legions of Fantasy managers who own the Senegalese midfielder would have been hoping for positive words from Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss delivered neither good nor bad news, however, saying only:

I think he’s, in this moment, in his scan.

On Liverpool’s other absentees, Klopp added:

Dejan trained completely normal. I think for Shaq and Milly it’s too early. Naby we will have to see, my information is that he will be part of training today. It was not too long [out].

We had more helpful updates from Brendan Rodgers and Frank Lampard on Jamie Vardy and Tammy Abraham, at least, with those two players’ injuries not as bad as first feared.

Vardy, indeed, looks to stand a good chance of being involved in Gameweek 25.

Rodgers said on Friday:

Not as serious as what we thought. We’re hopeful for Tuesday [v Villa in the EFL Cup] but a little bit of work to do over the course of the next few days.

He was much better directly after the game. He was tight and sore and struggling to move, but today was much, much better, moving around. We’re hopeful he’ll be involved [on Tuesday].

Abraham is less certain to be involved in that clash at the King Power Stadium a week on Saturday, however, with Lampard saying:

The good news is he hasn’t fractured anything.

We still have to see how he develops, it’s not a clear-cut one. He’s not fit for the weekend, whether he’ll be fit for Leicester after that I’m still not sure.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Leroy Sane (knee) is Manchester City’s only absentee for the FA Cup tie against Fulham, meanwhile.

Todd Cantwell (glute/hamstring) has joined Emi Buendia (thigh), Ben Godfrey (suspension) and Timm Klose (knee) on the sidelines ahead of Norwich’s trip to Burnley, while Kenny McLean (hip) and Ibrahim Amadou (knee) are both doubts.

Ralf Fährmann (knee) and Mario Vrancic (shin) are back in training and set to travel.

Phil Bardsley (back) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) are doubts for the Clarets and Ashley Barnes (hernia) remains sidelined.

Victor Lindelof (illness) is back in training ahead of Manchester United’s match against Tranmere, while Eddie Howe said that Bournemouth had “a couple of injury concerns” ahead of Monday’s match against Arsenal – but didn’t name names.

Sokratis (illness) is back in training for the Gunners, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and David Luiz both see out bans and will be available for Gameweek 25.

Calum Chambers (knee), Kieran Tierney (shoulder), Sead Kolasinac (thigh) and Reiss Nelson (hamstring) are out.

Steve Bruce says that Joelinton (knock) “should” play against Oxford, while Nabil Bentaleb and Allan Saint-Maximin will be involved.

DeAndre Yedlin (knee) is also in contention but Florian Lejeune has picked up a groin injury and Emil Krafth (ankle) is out for up to six weeks.

Harry Winks’ ankle is being assessed ahead of Totteham Hotspur’s fourth round tie at Southampton, while Ben Davies (ankle), Harry Kane (hamstring) and Moussa Sissoko (knee) remain out.

On Thursday, Ralph Hasenhuttl said that Cédric Soares will be sidelined for three weeks with a knee ligament injury.

Jannik Vestergaard (concussion) and Shane Long (knee) won’t feature against Spurs, either.

David Moyes has confirmed that West Ham United could be without Robert Snodgrass and Arthur Masuaku (both knee) for Saturday’s FA Cup match with West Brom, while Angelo Ogbonna (back) will be assessed.

David McGoldrick (foot) also faces a late check ahead of Sheffield United’s FA Cup tie against Millwall.

My mate should win the FPL monthly prize unless Hendo bags a hattrick and basically he’s a rugby fan and we go to Quins and I’m changing his team for him and checking out the scores. So there is definitely hope for us all, or is it all just luck?

Those wildcarding now. When will you play the bench boost?

The chips are surely best played in tandem.

Sheffield and saints have good fixtures in 26 - 29 and its tempting to play bb then rather than waiting to the dgw.....thanks

Doesn't look like there is going to be a decent DGW to bench boost this year. Your best chance is GW37 but that's going to be full of end of season rotation.

depends on the DGWs and the fixtures. I would not be opposed at all to play it in a regular GW if the fixtures line up

Interesting from Ben Crellin that he thinks it will be easier to navigate the BGWs and DGWs without a WC this season. Hence an early WC may be more beneficial.

I remember 2 years ago, saving the WC right before the key DGW was a large success for most on here. I actually played my WC early and couldn't come close to matching the 100+ GW score (with Bench Boost) on here. I got a red arrow that week despite scoring 70+ with BB

Last season I saved the WC but the big DGW with BB was a dissapointment.

It could go either way again this season. I feel it's really just the bench boost you miss out on- but this is a powerful chip imo

Think you can gain more by saving. Sure it can be used now, but most teams can be brought to the mean by a hit or possibly two. That is a price worth paying for the massive upside opportunity of wildcard into dgwk bb, which went very well last year in my experience.

The GW34 fixture list is going to be key in terms of which teams have blanks, SGWs and DGWs, and we are not going to know those fixtures for weeks. Early WCers could be let off the hook, but equally they could be in trouble.

There's a lot of FTs available between now and GW 28, and then GW31 and then 34.

Navigating around those weeks would be fine, especially with a FH still avilable as well.

Yes, but WCs are much bigger weapons leading into DGWs than FTs, or at least they should be. Interesting times.

Spurs Mid-table for xgc over last 4, southampton in top 3 for lowest xgc, and with a less cohesive liverpool attacking front 3 without Mane, Aguero may edge it.

Looks good, williams and martinelli is a bit risky on wildcard. I still view both as rotation risks. Plus lundstram's situation needs clarifying, might just have been rested in a fixture wilder saw them as losing or may have lost his spot, next gw will clarify that. Gomez I view as nailed give how he's performed, until we've wrapped up the title. After that, who knows?

Wildcard team almost sorted, got a couple of queries.

      1) Going foster over henderson, fair call to make or a mistake? I feel these SHU fixtures could be a red herring and mostly 2/3 pointers with few saves.

      2) Currently got Auba, Aguero and Jimi, would you advise going Ings over one of them with his fixtures and reinvesting elsewhere? e.g. I have gomez to go with trent over VVD & Robbo.

Just been burnt by ryan having good fixtures and getting 2-3s, so concerned henderson could be a repeat scenario and foster has actually kept clean sheets v the big teams already, plus plenty of saves.

The way Sheffield United are defending at the moment, I think Henderson will get more than 2-3 quite often. But he will miss GW 31, worth considering (if you have fodder on the bench).

As for Ings, he is a true poacher, I would be surprised if he doesn´t score well considering upcoming fixtures (in the long run). Jimi is a season keeper, in my opinion (can score against anyone/pens/rarely injured or tired). Kun and Auba are proven, but rotation/pending transfer/motivation could have an impact - struggling with those two myself ...

Thanks for your thoughts, it definitely helps in regards to my WC team. Perhaps I'm trying to be too clever with that one, I'll try and squeeze henderson into my team. I have mccarthy on the bench. Yh, the more I think about it, the more I believe Ings will be more consistent than Traore, it's just that I've got very little faith in premium midfielders other than Salah & KDB at the moment.

Thoughts appreciated on my wc team with 0.9itb:

      Henderson, McCarthy
      TAA, Robertson, Baldock, Stephens, Lascelles
      Salah, KDB, Grealish, Traore, Fleck
      Aguero, Jimenez, Wood

I've gone Baldock over Lundstram due to Lundstram being benched lately. I could also swap to Stevens or even Egan if I want the cash. But atm I'm on Baldock due to his goals/assists.
Grealish, Traore, Fleck are in better form than the mid rangers like Richarlison/Martial/Son/Alli & I can rotate them or play them all.
Wood is just there for the fixture this week. He will become Ings next gw.
I have Aguero but still debating bringing in Auba but if Aguero is rotated my bench is strong enough to compensate.

      Thanks.

I'm keeping lundy till he's dead as an option, got too much value in him but I can understand your point of view, yh, I get why you'd want baldock. I agree with your thinking re midfielders. Got no faith in martial or alli. Son will struggle to justify the price with the lack of creatiity in the spurs team and rich is just an expensive grealish imo. Traore I'm not 100% convinced still but at this point, who else is there that's been more consistent? If he keeps hauling every now and again then great. Auba and Aguero are both great options. I've gone with both and it could go either way as to who performs better, re aguero, as you said, you have cover.

I like it a lot, and agree with your reasoning on all those picks. My only concern would be the Wood > Ings plan as despite the fixture logic, over many seasons it has *never* worked when I've WCarded and built-in a follow-up transfer! That might just be my bad luck of course, but I'd just think carefully before doing that! Anyway nice team, and good luck.

I suppose if Jiminez does score Traore should be involved. Ings’s fixtures after Liverpool are brilliant. Or bring in Jiminez for one gw then back to Ings

its up to you mate, personally i just think its a wasted transfer if you're not gonna keep since Jimmy has a tough too, surely Utd will want to give a good reaction after that shambles against Burnley the other night

Do you ever feel like you're being watched?
Like some kind of snake in the grass owned by George Orwell.

Loved the Isle of Wight on my winter visit, but Big Brother has a runny nose, carrying germs invented by them coming in from China.

And China loves Big Brother. Funny that.

Stay awake and keep firing black ink pellets at the cameras wherever you find them.

Do I ever feel like I´m being watched? All the time.

Last year, I discovered a brilliant band named Black Midi. Young brits, not even adults yet. Performing the tune "bmbmbm" live, one of the guitarists feeds the voice/rant of some woman named Nikki, apparently appeared in the TV show Big Brother many years ago, through his guitar. Sounds hilarious, but also fits the tune really well.

I´ve never seen the chinese version of the TV show, though.

I´m always awake, just like Tyler Durden. I´m also invisible, so the cameras can never see me - kundalini meditation ftw!

Left wing vs right wing. I prefer Mané. But polarization is the main problem today. One day, I hope we will all have both Salah and Mané in our teams and target the opponent goalkeeper from both wings - harder to defend against.

Left and right is political Dogma invented by the up and downs from Oxbridge to blancmange the proletariat; I prefer to go straight down the middle where the goal is.

Down the middle - wish I had brought Firmino into my team instead of just putting Rashford on the bench, proves that I´m still being too passive playing this game.

Blancmange, haven´t seen/heard that word since I saw that MP skit when I was a kid Also, the word proletariat immediately makes me think of Terry Jones, rest in piece.

Yeah I was quite keen on both Aguero & Auba but with the lower priced forwards they can match Aguero & Auba. I mean Ings from gw26 has great fixtures & Jimenez proves every game that he's fixture proof. Even DCL, Deeney & Wood have pretty good fixtures & can score as well. Auba has a great fixture run coming up but I'd prefer him to start at cf with Martinelli on the wing.

Yh, it's an interesting debate and I don't think there's a defnitive answer. Auba and Aguero are different class but Jiminez & Ings could easily far outstrip their prices with their form & fixtures. If the premium midfielders had been more consistent this season, I'd use Ings and Jimi to facilitate getting another one of them in but as it were Grealish and Traore are offering great value too, so I think I'll go with Aguero & Auba.

I agree with this, Jimmy and Ings look great for the upcoming fixtures but heavy hitting mids not looking great either beyond the Liverpool guys so not sure where you'd spend the extra cash

      A) Randolph (throws up a little in mouth) and Mane > McCarthy and Salah

      B) Randolph (again throwing up at the idea of this being a good idea) and Vardy > Hendo and Jiminez

      Both -4

More inclined to do B as feel that Mane won’t be out long and I prefer Hendo?

Elneny is due/the ultimate differential - maybe worth saving, having come this far already. As a comparison, I thought I held Alli for far too long but then he finally delivered vs Norwich (sadly he was no longer in my team). Learned my lesson.

I would consider dropping Maddison, though. He is sometimes used as a counterattacking spearhead, meaning possible returns vs top teams, but his delivery on corners is awful (1/10 attempts leading to an actual chance).
