What impact has new formation had on Targett and Villa’s defence?

Aston Villa’s recent formation change has had an impact on budget left-back Matt Targett (£4.4m).

As Villa continue to battle relegation from the Premier League, manager Dean Smith has adopted a 3-4-3 formation over the last few weeks.

He debuted the new system in the Gameweek 21 trip to Burnley, which produced a 2-1 win, and has used it ever since.

It has mostly featured Kortney Hause (£4.4m), Tyrone Mings (£4.5m) and Ezri Konsa (£4.3m) in the back-three, Targett has started the last three as the left wing-back since returning from an injury, while Frédéric Guilbert (£4.4m) has been the favourite on the right-hand side.

During this five-match period, Villa have won twice, drawn once and lost on two occasions. Those seven points have gone some way to helping Villa beat the drop, although there is still a long way to go.

Either way, it looks as if the 3-4-3 system is here to stay and, thankfully, it seems as if it may have unlocked the potential of Targett.

What has happened to Targett’s position?

    Best 4th mid for WC?

    A. Traore
    B. Redmond
    C. Barnes
    D. Grealish

Currently leaning towards punting on B then switching to C in GW28

BRITAIN’S fictional immigration crisis is at an end thanks to Brexit, so what will Middle Englanders raise their blood pressure about now? Try these:

Gender-neutral toilets - You could spend weeks searching for a gender-neutral loo in most of the country, so now’s the time to claim Gents and Ladies toilets are being outlawed and innocent children must defecate next to burly, bearded men in frocks. Ignore the clash with your belief that Britain is in the grip of Sharia law.

The face mask shortage - The coronavirus is here and it’s an absolute outrage that you can’t buy a years’ supply of face masks for you and your family. Why hasn’t the government been stockpiling them? Why is the NHS once again letting you, who isn’t ill, down?

Greta Thunberg’s plan to ban cars - The tiny Nordic eco-warrior’s relentless crusade to return the world to the Middle Ages will inevitably end in the banning of all cars, buses and even ambulances from British roads within the next 18 months. Need to get to hospital urgently? Sorry, Greta says you’ll have to walk.

Meghan Markle’s secret plot to become Queen - Not content with poisoning Prince Harry’s mind against his family and his beloved British tabloids, scheming Markle is plotting to kill her way to the throne using voodoo dolls, occultism, a witch doctor and other racist stereotypes.

Veganism to become law - The mere fact that Subway is doing a vegan sandwich means that we have only months to stop veganism becoming law. You can only fight this by continuing to eat meat which is freely available everywhere, just as you already do.

28 will be 4 teams blanking
31 will probably be 10 to 14 teams blanking
34 will probably be 1 or 2 teams blanking, and probably 4 to 6 other teams having a DGW
37 will probably be 8 to 12 teams having a DGW

May be other DGWs (or a TGW) as well.

Ben Crellin is the Twitter dude - use his excellent spreadsheet, but don't listen to his predictions around when specific rearranged games will be as they are usually wrong.

Haller & Mane to Aguero(c) & Barnes/Traore. Then bring Mane(WHU) and Ings(AVL) for these two for a -4 next week. Sounds profitable? Gambling on Mane limited minutes this gw, and west ham being trashed in their next two games.

    1. Le Bluff

This is what I'm thinking. Liverpool will surely be underdogs for their game against Chelsea. If they get knocked out, they'll play in GW 31 so everyone will have 3 Liverpool and will be captaining Salah regardless.

Makes the FH chip seem much less appealing. Especially as you can start planning for GW 31 (to an extent) by bringing in a few Wolves assets who have good fixtures coming up, and won't blank in GW 28 or GW 31.

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 2 months ago

        Don’t see Liverpool as underdogs

Chelsea are quite likely to be fighting on 3 fronts too and the 2 FA cup teams in rounds 3 and 4 were winter break and World Cup related. Given the league will be tied up by then Liverpool may be the team more likely to field something near to a full side.

    2. Now I'm Panicking
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 2 months ago

I think so - likely to be 4 to 6 teams with a DGW that week which sounds better than FHing for a SGW with roughly the same number of teams playing. Would be nice to know the fixtures first though (which we won't know until after GW31 in all likelihood)

After coming back from 2M OR in GW11, and going into 100K in GW22, I am not languishing in 160k with no improvement since.

My worst decisions were basically 2 transfers:

Pope > Ryan and Jimi > Ings in gw22/23.

    The team is as below:

    Ryan
    TAA Sidibe Lundy
    Salah KDB Mahrez Grealish Fleck
    Kun Ings

    Deeney Hanley Kelly

I did Cantwell > Fleck just after the GW ended out of frustration and trying to get him in time for the good fixtures hoping he becomes one of my differentials.

What would you do with this lot? WC or keep as it is? 3 City are bothering me if Pep continues to rotate and you have a few of the deadwood still in my team.

If I go with the same team, whom will you bench out of the three?

    1) Deeney
    2) Grealish
    3) Fleck

    Thanks in advance.

City are playing WHU, they have a break afterwards and Sterling is injured, so it's a pretty good time to have those 3 - bench Fleck I guess, wouldn't have done the transfer

        Thanks mate.

I like Ings if you can afford DCL > Ings direct swap and save the other FT that would be nice. Aguero and Mahrez are also nice to have but as an owner, I hate waiting for the lineup as Pep surprises us every other gw.

Guy stood next to me on the train to work this morning was on FFS scout on his mobile, never seen that before, though I guess there must be tens or maybe even hundreds of thousands of "us".
Chickened out of striking up a conversation of course.
    Was it one of you?

In my previous job I saw someone in the break room on Fantasy Football Scout.

I said I played too but he didn't really say much!

Funny thing is these days I know him really well and we talk about Fantasy Football a lot, at least we did when I was still working there.

Any idea how many people do access site, how often, subscribe etc?
I can't even figure out how to tell how many in FFS League.

Alexa is one of the more reliable sites for metrics - the larger the site the more reliable it tends to be.

Haven’t checked but I imagine FFS does well for time on site and repeat traffic. They need to convert those visits into membership as hosting costs go through the roof after a certain point - to my cost I know it’s quite possible to lose money if traffic goes exponential and there’s no reliable revenue stream

Thanks Pingi, very informative. Is this your field?

            https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

Don't actually understand half of what is on here, but as a casual internetist who just about understands the reason why person A gets ads for "Asian Babes" and person B gets "B&Q" it is fascinating to see exactly what kind of thing "they" do keep track of.

Mostly wildcarding this week & looking at the best GK combo out of Hendo, McCarthy & Pope!

Pope - I will be getting him surely, because he goes well with both Hendo/McCarthy until the end of season. No blanks in GW28 & GW31.

The other choice is between Hendo & McCarthy! I don't see both of them being a good combo together! They have similar run of fixtures until the end of season! So it's one of them and Pope, the combo that compliments each other pretty well until the end of season.

So the question comes down to

    Pope XX

    A. Hendo
    B. McCarthy

    Currently on Pope & McCarthy!

    1. Pep Roulette

Also there's high chances of Hendo & McCarthy both blanking in GW31!

Chelsea have nice fixtures from GW28 onwards (apart form MC in GW31). What are your opinions on considering chelsea assets instead of Leicester assets from GW28 onwards. Abraham and Mount may be good alternatives to Vardy and Maddison for example and are much cheaper if you may be looking for differentials.

I'm not really keen on WCing, I can solve the issues in my team with 1 or 2 transfers that I can gradually make over the next few weeks. What do you guys think?

    Ryan
    TAA Enda Sidibe
    Salah KDB Alli Grealish
    Firmino Ings DCL
    (Soyuncu Cantwell Rico)

Sidibe's on his last game, Alli will be shipped out soon, Soyuncu will be assessed when the fixtures turn green, DCL won't last long. I don't really feel urgency to get rid of all of them right now; I like to think I'm a more patient manager.

As you say, couple of changes over next 2-3 weeks will do the job. Not worth WCing if you aren't making any major changes...

If these are the fixtures in BGW31, what's your plan? Realistically I'd probably just go with 7/8 players and save the FH. Already own 6... (Saiss Traore Jimenez Pope Taylor Lascelles)

    Wolves vs Bournemouth
    Burnley vs Watford
    Norwich vs Everton
    Newcastle vs Aston Villa

Might try and get Richarlison and Pukki in nearer the time but looking at those matches, I don't think I want 11 of those lads.

Then FH in 34, BB in 37

I've only got 4, and I want to get rid of one of them in a couple of weeks (DCL) so I think I would be railroaded into a FH that week unfortunately.

    3. Holmes
      • 10 Years

Have 3 from them, will add Jimenez and maybe Dubravka. 4-5 players are enough from those teams...

If Chelsea manage to beat Liverpool then it would probably lock in the FH being used later on.

If Liverpool win though I still might go with less than 11 players and use the FH for a double.

Wait and see at the moment though!

Chances of Sheffield United conceding in next 3 home games?

All 3 are fighting for points at the moment (relegation battle) and SHU don't really have much to play for. Beach team as they say...

      Too early for sure.

I'd say they have plenty to play for - Europe is genuinely on for them....or at least it is at the moment.

Whether it will be good for their squad next year if they make it who knows, but you'd think they're far from the beach.
