Scoutcast crew discuss evolving template and best chip strategies

There are some big questions for the Scoutcast crew to answer tonight.

The Fantasy Premier League template continues to break up and dissolve while new players are making cases for a place in the new so-called ‘meta team’.

Join Joe, Karam and Pro Pundit Tom Freeman on our YouTube channel to hear their discussion.

The show will run from 20:00 GMT to 21:00 GMT.

Up for consideration in the new template is Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), so we will begin our analysis with him ahead of a favourable Gameweek 26 match against West Ham.

Meanwhile, those on the chopping block include John Lundstram (£5.1m), Leicester players and other cheap defenders.

Our pundits will discuss which of these they will be keeping and who should be ditched as soon as possible.

Finally, we’ll be looking ahead to the upcoming Blank and Double Gameweeks to assess when the best time to play the chips will be.

    Traore or Grealish?

I can afford to bench Grealish in 28 but Traore has BOU in 31...

Would you sell any of Auba, Vardy or Deeney for a hit?

Vardy to Firmino could pay off, 2 weeks then back to Vardy..

That is why I decided to get aguero on wildcard firmino fixtures too tempting to dump for Vardy gw 28.
Even though it is likely firmino will be rested at some stage soon with the CL etc.
Easier to switch Aguero to Vardy for my team.

As you implied in one of your replies - your defence needs work - I assume the option you are thinking of is double liverpool defence.

Deeney to Ings or Jimenez (or maybe even Wood) would tempt me but I might talk myself into waiting a week.

Looking at your team I would take a hit.

I would get Deeney out for sure to Ings. Aubameyang is a tough call as he is playing Newcastle.
So it would be Vardy out for the hit - Maybe get wood//rodriguez.
Then you can get Vardy back in for Aubameyang gw 28

To confirm, most common chip strategy to:

So whats to go with Lunds, is he now starting from the bench?

There is now lots of competition for that spot in the Blades defense and atm he is second choice to start. He does however have more attacking threat and imo will be used as a sub if United are needing a bit of a push to win a game.
Not sure on O'Connell so that is a no for me. For a FT replacement I would go for a Wolves defender just to get cover for GW28

With Lundstram getting benched in consecutive matches, it's time to ship the popular 'defender' from our teams.

A look at the fixture ticker shows that Southampton have the best fixture run up to GW30. However, Sheffield United have great fixtures themselves even despite the GW28 blank.

If like me you got Lundstram at 4.0, at his selling price of 4.5 there are really two standout options - Egan and Stephens (SOU)

I think that given how good the Blades are defensively, it is entirely possible they keep more clean sheets over four games than the Saints do in five. Is the tradeoff for having a defender playing in gw 28, which might be 1-2 points anyway sufficient to ignore one of the best defences in the league?

Doubling up on SHU defense on WC.
Considering whether to triple up or get Stephens to speed the risk a bit.

I think that comes down to how many blankers you have for GW28. If you can still manage to field a full 11 with a triple sheffield united defence that's what I would go for. I trust them for clean sheets more than Southampton

If I go with the triple up, it means fielding Hayden in gw 28 instead of Stephens.

Sheffield defender a better option imo. Ive gone for a triple up on my wildcard but obviously I've planned around it and can bench them all in GW28. If your bench can handle it in GW28 definitely go for Egan over Stephens.

my bench cannot handle it no, but the point of the discussion is - does it really need to?
getting Egan over Stephens means fielding 10 in gw 28 (Kelly is the 11th) but is that one additional fixture enough to sway the decision? Especially when you consider its a defender who might get you 1-2 points anyway that week

Soton's GW28 fixtures is anyways not great wouldn't expect them to keep a CS away to West Ham.
I would go with Egan instead and field 10 players in GW31.

      Good point.
I WC'ed last GW. Gone with

      Henderson McCarthy
      Taa VVD Stephens Lascells CTyalor
Defense. Reason for not doubling up on SHU is they have blank in 28 & possibly in 31. Stephens & Lascells rotate well too. So i can easily play one from them with Pool double up. CTaylor is the bench fodder. He'll play 31 which is amazing.

      How about Bertrand vs Stevens?

Bertrand is a nice option if you can spend the extra what, 0.4m? But I don't think I can/should

Stephens for me as he doesn't blank in GW28 and has good fixtures until GW33 and is cheap enough to bench, rotates well with Lascelles

I'm going with no sheff utd defence - in their next 5 gameweeks (4 opponents and a blank) they conceded in 3 of those reverse fixtures. Will take the risk and hope for gains elsewhere so brought in Stephens for lundstram this week.

Why is Egan an outstanding option ...what about O'Connell and Basham? Have shipped out Lundstrum for O'Connell and Kelly for Stephens

The members section is useful to compare , but apart from stats it's worth mentioning that Baldock is a bit prone to a yellow card, was lucky not to be sent off against Palace

I've got 5 players missing in GW28 and Kelly and Williams who look to be on the out. Is it worth using the FH that week, or should I just use the 3 FTs before GW28 to get as much players playing that week as possible?

There will be another week I need the FH more, right?

Yeah, you'll probaly need it for the blank GW31.

my issue with the FH for 28 is that there are not too many fixtures that appeal for FPL returns. Most of us already have triple Liverpool, the next best fixture is probably Norwich vs Leicester. Besides that I don't think there are that many points on offer that week

FH should be more useful in 31/34/37.
You can use FT to swap some of the out of favour players in your team

Hi folks, would appreciate some input here. Here's my current team :

    Guaita
    TAA, Baldock, Lundy
    Salah (C), KDB, Grealish, Doucouré
    Vardy, Jimenez, DCL

    Button, Douglas Luiz, Soy, Kelly
    1 FT, 6.1m itb

My plan was to do Guaita > McCarthy this GW, and then Grealish + DCL > Mané + Ings in GW 27/28. But with the end of the template and the poor choices I've made recently (hello Doucouré), there's just too many players stinking up my team right now and I'm strongly considering to hit that WC button. Currently looking at something like :

    Henderson, McCarthy
TAA, O'Connell, Stephens, C Taylor, Lascelles
    Salah, KDB, Son, Traoré/Barnes, Mooy
    Auba, Jimenez, Ings

    What would you recommend?
    A) Stick with original plan
    B) WC

1 FT and 5m in the bank
    Any suggestions?

    1. DCL and Perez out for Jimenez and Bergwijn
    2. DCL and Perez out for Wood and Son
    3. Upgrade keeper or defensiv.

    Ryan Button

    TAA VvD Sidibe Lundstram Stephens

    Salah KDB Traore Perez Grealish

    Vardy Ings DCL

If you have only 1FT, then save and reassess next week. Might want to change Richarlison or Dominic before Lundstram

What to do with this lot? Terrible season for me, around 500k OR now. 1ft and 4.2 ITB. Prefer no hits this GW.

    Hendo
    Trent Soyboy Lund (Rico BW)
    Salah KDB Grealish Cantwell (Hayden)
    Kun Jim DCL

    A) DCL -> Firmino
    B) Cantwell -> Mahrez
    C) Rico/Lund -> Gomez/VVD
