Lundstram benched again as unchanged Sheffield United face Bournemouth

While Manchester City v West Ham United has fallen victim to Storm Ciara, the Premier League’s other scheduled game on Sunday goes ahead.

Barring any late developments, Sheffield United v Bournemouth will kick off at 14:00 GMT.

The Blades are unchanged from Gameweek 25, meaning that John Lundstram (£5.0m) is benched for the third league match in a row.

Lundstram was the most-sold ‘defender’ of Gameweek 26 but is still in 43.3% of Fantasy Premier League teams overall and almost two-thirds of all top 10k squads, although his effective ownership statistics suggest a significant number of those benched him ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

Of course, with City v West Ham now postponed and not guaranteed to be rescheduled within the winter break, Lundstram could well be auto-subbed into many of those sides.

Sander Berge (£5.0m) is handed his Bramall Lane debut, while Billy Sharp (£5.6m) makes his third successive start up front.

Dean Henderson (£5.1m), George Baldock (£5.1m) and John Fleck (£5.1m), who each enjoy double-digit ownerships in the top 10,000, all start.

Eddie Howe has made only one change to his Bournemouth side, with Andrew Surman (£4.7m) replacing the suspended Jefferson Lerma (£4.8m) in midfield.

Josh King (£6.1m) and Jack Stacey (£4.3m) are among the substitutes after six-week absences.

Diego Rico (£4.3m), who still sits in almost 25% of teams within the top 10k, also starts at left-back.

The Cherries have failed to score in four of their last five away matches, while Sheffield United have kept five shut-outs on home soil this season.

Sheffield United XI: Henderson; O’Connell, Egan, Basham; Stevens, Fleck, Norwood, Berge, Baldock; McBurnie, Sharp.

Bournemouth XI: Ramsdale; Smith, Francis, Ake, Rico; Surman, Gosling, Billing; H Wilson, C Wilson, Fraser.

yea it sucks I know, but what choice do they have? Burnley and Chelsea isnt that bad he can score in those, Pool is hard but after that its not too bad imo. Those reds look a bit OTT to me

Maybe towards the end of the season - two decent fixtures at the end where they will either be trying to stay up or where he will be trying to impress for a new club / England NT

I love those people talking about selling Lundstram was a mistake
Those would be the first that sell him if he was not lucky to score today
You didnt sell him because you had other issues in your team
And getting him from your bench for Man city players is making this talk even more ridicoulus

I'm on the same boat & decided to sell lund, because people will rage sell him if he comes with 1point again, which makes him more vulnerable to price drop than Kelly.

Playing Lundstram this week was the single greatest decision ever made by anyone in FPL.

Honestly.... it’s 7 points. Why is everyone losing their minds?!

      1. Klaren
        • 6 Years

It is about getting punished for the reasonable decision which makes it slightly frustrating.

For example as a non-owner of Ings and Jimenez, I’d prefer if they both had double digit hauls this GW than Lundstram getting 7, because people who got in and play those two have made a reasonable decision while people who kept Lundstram just got lucky.

Luck is a big part of fpl though and sometimes you are on the winning side of it and other times not, just have to accept it as it is.

If he’s not getting the minutes for cs then the goals - if they continue - are a bit less relevant. He needs minutes and attacking returns to return to gold status.

Post above - he’s still has the least returns from any SU defender since 19 and is behind Fleck and Norwood too.

Nailed he’s a prospect - in and out and he’s a benching headache each week.

Bit of both for me. Most had fires of some kind to put out this GW. Of all of them, Lundstram was the most likely to get points off the bench - when he comes on, it's generally to play in an attacking role rather than to sit on a lead.

His manager raved about him after last game.
He plays in an attacking position and gets chances often.
He was against one of the worst defences in the league.

It’s not shocking to think some people kept him because there is a chance he could grab a goal or get his starting position back.

Kept lundstram as thought moving him to Egan was a low ceiling move.

Egan assists and I'm loving life.

Was thinking of selling Lundstram and then he scores, cue a cheeky fist bump on the train.

Will probably keep now as it's only one more game then I can move him on for the blank gameweek.

    Pure FPL drama.

Hi mate - how’s it going?

Imagine you are pretty gutted by the salah vs mane captain thing with your rival last week?

Despite everything seeming to go wrong each week I’m now on top 200k with decent chance of still getting a respectable rank.

Ah man, I don't even wanna say how long it took me to get over that, you know I swapped like 30 mins before deadline. Got 69 last week after Mane>Son and had DCL this week so ok so far, I did Vardy > Kun(C) though so that's value lost and inevitable haul coming for you. I was enjoying my rival starting Mariappa yesterday until the City postponement took the shine off. Glad your season has turned around, did you make any moves this week?

        This is a rearanged fixture.
That rule was to stop teams taking advantage and going off to play a money game somewhere.
A reschedule may well be slim still but it won't be because of that rule.

Lundstram situation has no right or wrong. WCers sold because he is not nailed. Keepers probably kept in the hope he started and got 60 plus, or benched due to other fires or prep to sort. Always lucky to get a benched guy in as it means you have miscalculated starting XI. But in this case its somewhat if not completely unforeseen

I am actually still keeping Williams as 5th mid. He could get the odd start in easy home games and is unlikely to make 1 pt cameo. I can rotate others and he is cheap and Shaw injury wouldn't surprise me.

Would be utterly ridiculous not to reschedule City v WHM over the next 10 days. This winter break is just political, hands down hypocrisy. It’s just pretending to care abt the players.

PL should just stop the BS and play that game ASAP. Otherwise City schedule will really be hectic in a few weeks - they wont care abt the players then will they?

Just scrap secular traditions (FA Cup replays, hectic schedule over Xmas and January) if you care abt the players.

The point is that it is a predetermined break. And no not the break in Barbados. There are many clubs who will have arranged training camps.

That date would make the most sense as its the closest week where city only have 2 games plus finding a free week would be near impossible later with city most likely having 2 rearranged fixtures and CPL fixtures to contend with.
