New date for Man City v West Ham – which remains in Gameweek 26

Manchester City’s postponed match against West Ham has been rearranged for Wednesday, February 19.

The game will kick off at 7:30 pm GMT.

Crucially, it means that the fixture will still take place within the confines of Gameweek 26.

Originally, Manchester City and West Ham were due to meet at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, February 9.

However, adverse weather conditions, caused by Storm Ciara, forced officials to call the fixture off.

Since Sunday, the Fantasy community has been rife with theories over when the match would take place.

Initially, it looked unlikely to be scheduled for a later date in the Winter Break with suggestions that it could lead to either a Double Gameweek 29 or even a Double Gameweek 38.

Either way, it appeared as if those Fantasy managers invested in Manchester City and West Ham players would end up with no Gameweek 26 points from these options.

That was an especially painful development for those who had captained Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) and vice-captained Kevin De Bruyne (£10.8m) – and vice versa – as they would not have got any points out of their armband.

However, these, previously unfortunate, Fantasy managers have been handed a reprieve with this latest news.

The rearranged date falls within Gameweek 26, ensuring that Manchester City players selected to start against West Ham will score points for this round.

While that is, of course, an encouraging development, this rearrangement does place a Premier League match just a few days before Manchester City’s trip to Leicester on Saturday February 22, which takes place in Gameweek 27.

Furthermore, the Champions League second-round first-leg trip to Real Madrid is just four days after that match, meaning three important outings for Pep Guardiola’s men in seven days which could, of course, lead to some rotation.

Perhaps the only other managers not cheering this news will be those with Gameweek 26 points on their bench at this current point.

John Lundstram (£5.0m) was a popular substitute last weekend as he scored the winning goal for Sheffield United against Bournemouth, but his seven-point haul may well be consigned to the bench by the re-appearance of Manchester City players.

What I've learned to gain an edge in FPL this year:
    1. Check weather forecasts
    2. Stalk the player's missus and when they're expecting their babies
    3. Stop whatever you're doing in anticipation of last-minute team leaks

Lol, you'd probably gain 150 to 200 pts for the season by sticking with that.

Def great news. Given how long the break has been I would think all aguero mahrez and kdb will start...but pep would want them against Madrid for sure and Leicester is also an important team to beat so I do think they will get like 60-65 mins to do what damage they can

With all this talk of rotation is there such a thing as second choice City defence?

Vardy against their A team wasn’t a bad call. Does he become a better call now? Getting him back in 28 always possible - go a week early?

The Leicester game doesn't really carry more significance than the West Ham one, especially when you factor in Real a few days later.

City's league focus is now a CL finish, they're light-years ahead of 5th, dropping points at Leicester to focus on Real wont impact their season greatly.

Literally no difference between the two games in terms of importance. Makes much more sense to get the free 3 pointer and some increased confidence against West Ham and then give the most important players limited minutes against Leicester. But you never know what Pep will do.

Because 7 points is so little and it’s not season defining. By your stupid logic, Lundstram still has high ownership, and autosubs to come possibly so don’t gain with him either

KDB has 98% effective ownership. Lundstram is 37%. Therefore, you are better off having KDB sit and getting Lundstram’s points off the bench. You literally have nothing to gain if KDB plays, but Lundstram is almost a differential this week.

...and 7 points is nothing to scoff at. If your rank is 1.0m, for example, it will move you over 100k places.

I deliberately setup my WC team to maximise my points over GW25 & 26 to give myself the best chance of winning the Cup. Hence having the likes of Digne in my team, who isnt great long term. The Bench Boost was always the plan.

My two main 50/50 calls were Auba or Kun and DCL or Jimi. I ended up going Jimi to match my opponents and save a FT after GW26. Playing BB meant I had to go nailed, hence Auba.

The Mariappa move was so close to being a great move. I expected much more from Stevens and Digne. I think the Cup is really a 50/50 call at present.

Hopefully the weather doesn't have the final say.

                All the best 🙂

Tbh, now that I have used this tactic, I really like it. Ridding yourself of the Bench Boost makes planning easier in that it's just for a strong XI, and no worry about lots of rotation in DGWs. The early WC can also give you a decent points boost over a number of weeks before you may suffer later. I really like the idea of planning my way through until the end now. Proper FPL management.

                  Ha. Same.
We need Pool to get beaten by Chelsea in fa cup now. I'm going to use the FH in 37 now i guess. FT's are precious now though. Thankfully we've good TV so no need to do early transfers now.

A tactic that has worked for me over the seasons is to perform early transfers more often before Xmas, and less often after. Your TV is normally set by Xmas, and with more player rotation and fatigue later in the season, early transfers become far more risky, with less GWs for your score to recover if it goes wrong.

Sorry to jump on this conversation but I agree completely. I feel I've benefited and have a rejuvenated team by using my WC earlier. I have just my FH and BB left now (punted on TAA with the TC against WH and WOL - Wolves goal cost me about 21 points).

I'm constantly deliberating bringing in a playing GK for the BB but I'm quite happy with my current set up!

Jump away. We all love to share opinions.

A friend of mine WCed early a couple of seasons ago and flew up the ranks for many weeks. Once the DGWs came around, he made one or two hits along the way and pretty much ended up with the same team as those that held our WC - but he had gained so much on us in the preceding GWs that the tactic worked a treat.

It doesn't always work out that way, but it shows there are no right or wrong ways to play the game.

This season particularly with BGW & Dgw being spaced sparsely, using WC early won't cost us too many points ( at least that was my logic behind early WC)

I developed playing WC early about two seasons ago and I found it worked a treat.

                      15/16 - 409K OR
16/17 - 861K OR - Stopped playing for personal reasons missed a few weeks
                      17/18 - Top 15K OR
                      18/19 - 51K OR

The difference in my finishes was huge (coincidentally those seasons line up with the years I've been on here also - 3).

If you see a trend early (of players) it's better to get them in and slowly shift them out, than slowly shift them in and miss big points - such as Rashford when he went on a run, Barnes for a few GWs. I like the early WC. I think next season the BB is going to get used a lot earlier (I'd like to use it this week (27) but not sure on my bench and I have two LEI vs CITY)

BB GW 1 might be the best plan that we always ignore.
WC before BB also helps. Only worry is that 100m budget is probably less to get a good playing bench.

My TCs have been a disaster over the years until this season:

                        Lukaku - 3 points
                        Aguero - 9 points
                        Kane - 3 points
                        Sane - 1 point

and now Salah - 48 points

I was adamant it wouldn't go ahead this week - both the UEFA thing and the alleged winter break (which now seems to exclude the top two teams and one relation threatened team)

They would have had to clash with one of the CL rounds - I thought 29/30, so that UEFA could have had some notice instead of the FA breaking their agreement and the first opportunity
