Scoutcast Episode 321 – Son replacements and FPL rule changes

The Premier League’s winter break has conspired to make Gameweek 26 the longest that FPL managers have experienced.

It therefore seems fitting that the Scoutcast is an extended episode, spanning 90 minutes as the crew are finally able to look ahead to Gameweek 27 and beyond.

Among the pressing issues discussed by Joe, Holly and Az is the long-term injury to Son Heung-min and the best replacements for the Tottenham attacker.

Relegation scrappers, in particular, Aston Villa’s talismanic midfielder Jack Grealish, also come under consideration as FPL managers hope the basement-dwelling stars will defy their perilous position to deliver points.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s financial fair play issues and subsequent Champions League ban are discussed. How will UEFA’s momentous decision affect the Citizens’ chances of domestic success for the season run-in?

The winter-break scheduling also sparks a lively debate on potential rule changes for FPL next season. Could the busy festive fixture period in the game be reduced to create an extra Gameweek in February?

Points allocation changes, player reclassification and revamping chips are among a raft of other FPL tweaks our trio ponder.

This episode’s look at Gameweek 26 sees Az present a ‘dossier’ to Joe concerning his recent Wildcard. This gives Joe a chance to discuss how a serious health scare last year is driving his decisions this time around.

Holly takes her turn to pick a differential, on the back of Lateriser12’s recent success selecting Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe, who racked up 17 points against Newcastle last weekend. So, no pressure there.

Clean sheets are looked at and our trio round off proceedings by revealing their captaincy and transfer plans.

          That doesnt really hurt me.
Rivals have TC and i am wo dering when they could use it if Pool lose to chelsea in the cup.
Then they will keep FH alongside TC and BB and will have no extra DGW to use it.

Seems like Salah DGW couple of weeks ago was the right choice

How's this over two weeks planning from now...

    Webster, Son and Ayew
    To
    Robbo, Saka and Jimenez?

    Saka would be 5th mid in a 3 4 3

DCL has that likely 31 fixture, if you plan on not FH that GW, so Jimmy for Vardy could work, but if Vardy scores in his easy 3fixtures and DCL bottles it, nobody would be surprised much

Think it’s been a really strange season so far. I see lots of really good looking squads in here but with poor g/w scores/ranks and honestly think my own squad is poor in comparison but my rank is high so I’m now just gambling again or covering other top 10k teams. Looking forward to finally using some chips tho

It's a good FPL season. Not as many big hitters in template teams other than Pool players. Sheffield United bringing good options. Cheaper forwards doing well. City rotation. Players selling/buying form/ out of form players based on fixtures. A nice few variables.

        Totally agree

I think it’s been relatively easy, I can’t understand how so many top players are struggling.

I’ve basically had template with a hint of maverick all season and I’m 3k. Mad punts usually don’t work out.

      1. have you seen cyan
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

I think this season kinda messed up the traditional way of playing FPL where being smart and patient ultimately pays off.
Some of those players have just struggled to adjust to that change and have given out of form players too much time, Sterling for example.

People let FPL price points dictate their decision making too much. The people who chose those prices, they thought Lundstram was a defender..

          • 11 Years
          4 years, 1 month ago

The flip side to that is last season if a bandwagon had gone up say .3 I use to think I’ve missed the boat and ignore them only for them to keep scoring and go up another million. I’ve since learnt that lesson

Yea I’ve thought it’s strange how some of the top players have struggled this season but I suspect if they had a bad start the felt the need to pick a differential rather than the lord/Vardy early on.

This season in general, just feels different. Like the game is being played in a slightly different way now, faster moving. Think it comes down to the general rise in users, not everyones an expert no, but most of the information now is more readily available then it once was.

I am currently 7k and if i had to say one Thing that i did right was, steady planning, not jumping on early bandwagons and keeping cool.
I have only done -4 once so far and never had the feeling of putting a weak team out.
I almost played fixtures over Form this season.
I would love to see a stat where we could see how many away and home games our players played.
I feel, i always play at home 🙂

Wouldnt back that statement but if you feel, you have a great team nonetheless then ofc 4saved helps..
But id rather take a hit for a longterm move, than a Pukki or Cantwell with mediocre fixtures in the beginning of the season

        1. Agger

Nick Tanner who's been in the top 20 for most of the season has been taking 4 and 8 point hits almost every week, hes dropped down to 2k now though

      2. have you seen cyan
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

Nah there will be some people highly ranked who took numerous hits, almost certainly early in the season. If you pick the right players early and get a bit lucky then great, but that wont be the case for every season.
Just take hits in the early weeks and secure a good rank then just be steady

      3. Reiger
        • 8 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

Yep, need to very judicious with the hits. I’ve only taken four so far. And I’ve had only four red arrows this season... been pretty lucky with choosing the bandwagons to hop on, and when to stick with a player and be patient.

    2. JK 171
      • 11 Years
      4 years, 1 month ago

I’ve taken 3 hits so far this season and one week knowingly went with no keeper rather that take a hit. Always prefer home players however doesn’t always work our for me.

I take 80 to 120 points hits every season, some seasons it's works, some it doesn't. Taken 20 hits already this season and having a mare (but having a lot of bad luck).
I have a top 10k plus a top 5k from playing this way, it makes it very hard to be consistent but it's much more fun (at times) 🙂

    Son + Aguero + Henderson to Mane + Vardy + Pope (-8)

yeah, if Mane hauls v WHU it could prove a sweet move but it's tough taking this -8 as my bench is rubbish so if Mahrez or KDB don't play it hurts me (had Hayden 1 pointer this week)

Which of Holgate and Lundstram would you remove 1st?

Hendo, Lundstram, Grealish, KDB + Auba in my team atm so kind of stuck for GW 28 as it is although I do have 2 ft's now.

Thinking Lundstram but there is that nagging feeling that he may retain his place after all. Holgate's fixtures are brutal too.

    Full squad-
    Hendo.
    TAA, Stephens, Williams, Lundstram.
    Grealish, KDB, Mane, Salah.
    Ings, Aubameyang.
    Stek, Maupay, Dendoncker, Holgate.
    2ft, 0.1m ITB.

Morning. No one calling to me as a Son replacement. Appreciate any thoughts on latest idea

    Henderson/ Skelt
    TAA/ VVD/ Egan/ Stephens/ Lasalle
    Salah/ KDB/ Son/ Grealish/ Hayden
    Auba/ DCL/ Ings
    0.0 ITB 1FT

    A. Son to Traore (cash in the bank for DCL to Jiminez or Vardy later)
B Son to Taore and DCL to Jiminez -4 (leading mini league by a bit and dont mind a hit)
    C Something else.

Team is not great for 28 but will do Skelt to SOT keeper and play with 10, bench of KDB, Grealsih, Auba, Egan, Henderson as want them all longer term. Thanks for any thoughts

If only a few games in 31 FH then I’d suppose u would have to wait and see which dgw is better and W/C just before it so u can BB 15 players for it. However if u can get 9-11 players in 31 with transfers then hold your FH

        Thanks man appreciate the help!
Yeah I can defo get a team out for 31 without FH so maybe use that for the 1st DGW then W/C 36 for the DGW in 37 would be best for me do you think m8?

Not many fixtures have been confirmed yet for 31 due to cup games and also don’t b afraid to w/c 2 weeks before a double sometimes that can b an advantage due to fixtures and gives u a free transfer going into the double

If Liverpool lose against Chelsea then I’d be playing through 31 with about 9/10 players with the plan for FH34, WC36 and BB 37. Could all change though.

    TAA - VVD - O'Connell - Stephens - Lascelles
    Salah - KDB - Martial - Grealish - Traore
    Aguero - Jimenez - Ings

    Moaning Maureen complaining about injuries.
Like Barcelona without Messi, Saurez & Dembele.
"If Liverpool play in Champions league without Salah, Mane & Firmino, they still have Origi."

It’s all relative to the team one has. Doesn’t have to be interpreted as Son=Messi or Kane=Suarez ability wise. Not his fan but don’t understand why every statement of his has to be scrutinized in this manner. If Villa lose Grealish to injury it is like Barca losing Messi. Does this mean Grealish=Messi? No.

While it is true that they were missing key players it was Mourinho who stuck with his outdated negative tactics and sat back at home as if Leipzig were the reincarnation of Guardiola's Barcelona. No disrespect to Leipzig, they're clearly a good side, but it was a much more even game when Spurs actually tried to attack after going behind. Could've been a different result if Jose took a braver approach.

He has a point though. He is missing his two best offensive players. The Origi comment is laughable thought. But then again, Origi has performed above standard when needed the most

Most seem to miss the point that Jose is comparing his two Spurs players to 3 players from two undisputably better forward lines.
His argument may have had a smidgen of reality if he had compared 2 for 2.
