Scoutcast Episode 321 – Son replacements and FPL rule changes

The Premier League’s winter break has conspired to make Gameweek 26 the longest that FPL managers have experienced.

It therefore seems fitting that the Scoutcast is an extended episode, spanning 90 minutes as the crew are finally able to look ahead to Gameweek 27 and beyond.

Among the pressing issues discussed by Joe, Holly and Az is the long-term injury to Son Heung-min and the best replacements for the Tottenham attacker.

Relegation scrappers, in particular, Aston Villa’s talismanic midfielder Jack Grealish, also come under consideration as FPL managers hope the basement-dwelling stars will defy their perilous position to deliver points.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s financial fair play issues and subsequent Champions League ban are discussed. How will UEFA’s momentous decision affect the Citizens’ chances of domestic success for the season run-in?

The winter-break scheduling also sparks a lively debate on potential rule changes for FPL next season. Could the busy festive fixture period in the game be reduced to create an extra Gameweek in February?

Points allocation changes, player reclassification and revamping chips are among a raft of other FPL tweaks our trio ponder.

This episode’s look at Gameweek 26 sees Az present a ‘dossier’ to Joe concerning his recent Wildcard. This gives Joe a chance to discuss how a serious health scare last year is driving his decisions this time around.

Holly takes her turn to pick a differential, on the back of Lateriser12’s recent success selecting Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe, who racked up 17 points against Newcastle last weekend. So, no pressure there.

Clean sheets are looked at and our trio round off proceedings by revealing their captaincy and transfer plans.

Having the City Hammers game re scheduled meant that i had KdB as captain and Ederson clean sheet.

If it had been played in another gameweek I would have had Lascelles and Pope coming off bench for 2 points and Vardy Captain for an extra 2 points ... 30 point swing ... luck plays a huge part in this game 🙂

That’s not luck. They were your choices, the correct choices. A freak storm didn’t affect those choices

i agree but the luck was the rescheduling of the game that may have lost me 30 points.

Any way I needed a decent score after an awful run of luck 😉 that gave me a drop from 175k to 700k with 6 red arrows from GW18 to 23 ... Son -2 red card Captain, Vardy & Sterling no shows, Aurier own goal, Vardy missed penalty .... ouch

I’ve been away for a minute: is there a strong argument against using the free hit chip in GW28? As it stands I’ve got 6 not playing, 1 FT this week. So not going to be able to field a full XI without a hit. A hit isn’t so bad that I’d use the free hit when I really should wait, but thinking Pepe might be worth a punt given Arsenal’s fixtures and I back their return to form to continue. Still have all other chips to play.

    Thanks for any advice!

With 6 I thinnk you can use 1 FT this week and a -4 next week.
That will allow you to bench 3 and field 11.

Looking at the 6, Lund, Marti and one of Auba/Grealish for -4 makes sense.
Would keep KDB, Grealish and Egan.

I disagree, nothing wrong with using transfers and a hit or two to navigate a blank.

          • 8 Years

true, but when you only have 6 players it means your 11 will be very weak by the time you get to the game week, you end up selling players you want to keep and breaking up your team, and if you have injuries or rotation you have no bench ... the beauty of the Free Hit is that you can effectively ignore the blank (rather than trash your team) and plan for latter game weeks
