Scoutcast Episode 322 – Tackling the Blank Gameweek

Gameweek 28 marks one of a number of fixture hurdles facing Fantasy Premier League managers during the season run-in. Tough decisions lie ahead, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Sheffield United all skipping a league match due to the clash with the EFL Cup final.

Out Scoutcast trio of Joe, Karam and Az are on hand to answer your questions about whether the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (£10.8m), Jack Grealish (£6.7m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) are worth benching or replacing.

Meanwhile, Manchester United finally have a creative player in their squad. This latest episode considers how Bruno Fernandes (£8.2m) is shaking up the Red Devils’ attack and the FPL template, as one of a number of emerging mid-priced midfield gems.

Leicester City’s fixture turn, starting at relegation certainties Norwich City this weekend, also comes under scrutiny. Is Jamie Vardy’s (£9.7m) reputation enough to reward his backers? Or are their better, low-owned Foxes that deserve more attention?

Karam takes his turn selecting a differential for the next month, following Holly’s great choice of Manchester United’s Fernandes last week. There are clean sheets to consider and Az’s ‘Rough with the Smooth’ round-up of your Gameweek 27 scores takes in one Scoutcast regular’s audacious Bench Boost success.

    No GK

Chilwell / Lascelles / TAA / Kiko (lol) / Dunk

Mane / Salah / McCarthy (lol)

    Ings / Connolly (lol)

    Henderson / Kun / KDB / Fleck

    A. Save and play "10 players" (2FT for a possible DGW29 or to get rid of deadwood)

    B. Kun > Vardy

    C. Kun and Fleck > Jim & Fernandez -4

If you didn't have Aguero, I would say A, because I'm considering that as well. But since you have Aguero, B.

Heh that looks pretty awefull...if i were you i'd go C but with extra hit for a GK...try one with confirmed fixture in 31 so that gives you an option not to FH if Liverpool get knocked out in FA cup by Chelsea

Terrible squad for this week, but going to save WC as this lot have blinding fixtures in GW 29.

    Hendo (McGovern)
    TAA Robbo Soy Bertrand (Stephens)
    Salah(c) KdB Perez Traoré Cantwell
    Ings Jimi (Auba)

5.2 to spend on a keeper, so the question is...which of these rubbish options is most likely to land a CS?
    a) Ryan (CRY)
    b) Patricio (tot)
    c) Dubravka (SOU)
    d) Guiata (bri)

I reckon if there is to be a DGW29 then it just adds another fixture for City already busy schedule making it 7 in 20 days. I highly doubt even KDB will survive rotation or benchings.

I am avoiding City up to GW33 🙂

    a) KDB + Mahrez --> Mane & Bruno
    B) KDB + Grealish --> Mane & Bruno
    C) Mahrez + Grealish --> Mane & Barnes/Maddison

      I'd go with C - Maddison.

Maddi is in poor form atm but i personaly (even tho he is backed by many here and is playing good lately) don't like Barnes...he is electric and good on eye test but i just think he lacks end product...something like Traore last year.

Maddi on the other hand is nailed for 90 every game, got direct and indirect set play and if Lei find some form he will also find some points.

Actually he wasn't a bad transfer...just unlucky one...he could have had huge hauls last few games but was really unlucky. As a non owner it was really hard to watch him those games.

    I have som questionez:

    1) Will Also continue to play going forward?

    2) Is Traore and Doherty competiors for the RWB-slot now with Jota firing i 3-5-2?

    3) Leicester will play 4-3-3 again right? Can Barnes improve his poor finishing?

    4) Is Vardy suddenly an old man who is ready to put his boots at the shelf?

      1) very risky IMO
      2) no, they can play Traore Doherty and Jota in a 343 at Dendocker's expense
      3) should do, I'm bringing Barnes in as I can see him doing well
      4) there is life in the old dog yet - last shot at ever realistically winning the PL golden boot

    3. Rossonero
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 2 months ago

      1) Imposible to say...my guess is that he have a decent chance to start as he and Chealse looked very good against Spurs

      2) Again hard to say...i brought in raore for Son last GW and was very surprised to see him benched...was it only tactical, was it shoulder injury that Traore have or something else noone knowes

      3) I have no faith in Barnes...reminds me of last year Traore or this year James .... good on the eye but no end product

      4) I gambled on Vardy and didn't remove him...he was very bad last few gameweeks nad lucky for me the rest of the team did well enough so i could carry him...now with good fixtures i will give him few more games and hope that Lei will up their game and push for that 2nd spot

I wouldn't do it for -4. Even if Doherty gets a CS, Dendocker is an easy 2 (or 3 if Doherty gets the 6). That's breaking even if you think Wolves can keep Spurs out of goal completely.

    VVD, TAA, Holgate, Rico
    Salah, Maddy, Traore
    Vardy, Ings, Jim

    McCarthy / Button
    Lundstram / Rico / Cathcart / TAA / Boly
    Salah / KDB / Grealish / Hayden / Richarlison

Just want to try and confirm this.

Rumours of City DGW in 29.
Two possible opponents are Arsenal (postponed 28) and Chelsea (potentially postponed 31)

So for the Vs Arsenal game to go into 29, Arsenal need to be knocked out of Europe on Thursday....is this correct?

What circumstances would cause the game Vs Chelsea to move to 29?
It would need to be moved on the assumption that one of City, and Chelsea will progress in the FA cup.

Has that ever happened before? A game being brought forwards on the assumption of fixture congestion? Seems unusual.

Also don't see how City's first leg result matters. You think they would work off the assumption that City couldn't come back at the Etihad?

If City got a few injuries, don't think they would want to play next GW twice etc. Obviously Arsenal losing is the easy fix. Chelsea already struggling with injury probably and form would probably like to play later as it might be the difference between a CL spot next season even if City aren't allowed to play. Maybe Chelsea/City is pencilled in and would change to Arsenal if knocked out.

I didn't think the clubs would be able to dictate to the FA like that. There was lots of talk on here about West Ham not wanting their rearranged game with City to stay in GW26 which made logical sense from their point of view but it was still played then.

      2. HamezMace
        • 9 Years

        I didn’t think Chelsea’s 2nd leg match clashed with GW29.

I thought City and Chelsea both had midweek 29 free.

But as 31 won’t be a confirmed blank by then it would be unusually to move the game forward on the assumption that it would be.

You're correct, City and Chelsea do have a free midweek in 29. Arsenal don't so not sure why TM thinks that's the more likely scenario.

    2. I Member
      • 8 Years

Yes Arsenal would have to be knocked out of Europe for them to have a DGW29.

Apparently they could and have in the past made provisional announcements. The game wouldn't be officially moved but they could say that in the event of City or Chelsea progressing in the FA Cup that the game would be moved.

FA Cup is in the midweek between GW28 and 29, so one week before the potential DGW fixture.

I think that’s cutting it too close to rearrange.
Isn’t there some rule, for supporters, police, transport etc?

Anyone know the shortest notice of a rearrangement.

They would have to make a provisional announcement before that. As in 10 days before they would say if City or Chelsea progress then the league game will be rearranged.

Is there another CL game involving English teams in midweek 29.

If so that’ll cause a TV rights headache.

Yes there is but City just played West Ham on the same night that Spurs played Leipzig so it can be done.

That’s a good point, I was slightly surprised that happened. Competing TV companies don’t usually allow competing fixtures to go head to head.

That means 9 games in 20 days for City, correct?

      I cannot see this happening.

They will have to play the games at some point.

9 games in 20 days = Worst nightmare for City owners, including KDB.

Where do you get 9 games in 21 days from ? They currently have 6 between the 1st and 21st of March.

Oh sorry, my bad, deduct the Pool fixture.

So that will make it 8.

They wouldn't add both the Arsenal and Chelsea fixtures. It would be one of them.

Then there can be no DGW29.

What? It would be adding Arsenal or Chelsea to the fixture in GW29 against Man United.

Correct and that makes it 7, with either the Arsenal or Chelsea game played in DGW29 and either the FA Cup QF or Chelsea game played in GW31.

Worth a -8 to get Mane here?

    Kun + Hayden + Gomez > DCL + Mane + Doherty

    Hendo Pope
    TAA Gomez Taylor Egan Basham
    Salah KDB Traore Cantwell Hayden
    Kun Jimenez Ings

    1 Ft 4.1 itb

-8 when you have that much money in the bank seems unwise, surely you can do it with 2 and just keep Gomez.

Could really do with some suggestions on my team if anyone has a spare sec please?

    Pope
    TAA VVD Soyuncu Boly Rico(!)
    Traore Dendo Salah
    Vardy Ings

    Auba Grealish KDB

    0 FT and 0.2 ITB.

Dendo likely 1 pointed & Rico likely not to play so basically playing 9.

Anything worth a hit? Grealish to Barnes maybe?

    Thank you.

Morning all. Thoughts on where to use 2FT & 0.2m ITB? Thanks.

    Foster
    Rico - TAA - Saiss - Soy
    Salah - Cantwell - Martial - Traore
    Vardy - Ings

(McGovern) Cathcart - Auba - KDB

    A) Foster > Pope
    B) Cathcart > Taylor or 4.4m max
    C) Rico + Cathcart > Lascelles + Taylor
    D) Anything else?

assuming you can't stretch to just Rico -> Taylor? doesn't seem worth using both of your FTs on cheapo defenders

Could set yourself up for 28 and 31 numbers wise quite easily. Really depends how bad your team is and how quick you'll change it after GW31 when DGWs etc are known.
