De Bruyne out of Manchester derby as Aguero starts City’s Double Gameweek 29 opener

The first of two fixtures for Manchester City in Double Gameweek 29 takes place this afternoon at Old Trafford.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) will not be involved in the fourth Manchester derby of the season, however, as he has failed to recover from a shoulder injury and is not even among the substitutes.

Pep Guardiola said of the Belgian ahead of kick-off:

He feels better but he doesn’t feel 100%. And we don’t take risks. We have three important games in the Premier League but of course, the position that we have, Madrid and Newcastle are the real important games for us.

Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) leads the line for City, while Raheem Sterling (£11.7m) and Phil Foden (£5.1m) are also among the starters.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m) has to be content with a place on the bench, as do the likes of Benjamin Mendy (£5.5m), Kyle Walker (£5.7m), David Silva (£7.3m) and Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m).

Pep Guardiola has made five alterations overall from the side that beat Leicester City in Gameweek 27, although the Citizens have contested three cup matches since then.

Mendy, Walker, the injured Aymeric Laporte (£6.3m), De Bruyne and Mahrez are the men to make way from the win at the King Power Stadium, with Joao Cancelo (£5.2m), Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.2m), Nicolas Otamendi (£5.0m), Foden and Sterling all recalled.

Harry Maguire (£5.3m), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.3m) and Daniel James (£5.8m) have all recovered from injury to start for the hosts this afternoon, meanwhile.

James and Brandon Williams (£4.1m) in for Mason Greenwood (£4.3m) and Scott McTominay (£4.9m) are the two changes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made from Gameweek 28.

The Red Devils look to have switched to a wing-back system, as they have done in several of the “tougher” matches this season.

The three previous meetings between these sides in 2019/20 have all been won by the away team.

Aguero, who averaged 12 points per Double Gameweek last season (City had three of them), was the second-most-popular option for the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 29, with De Bruyne just behind him.

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Lindelöf, Maguire, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Matic, Fred, Williams, Fernandes, James, Martial.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Cancelo, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, Gundogan, Foden, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero.

Absolutely awful gameweek, following a failed WC in GW 26. But who cares, the reds are top of the league! 2 to go!

If City fail to get least 4 points from Arsenal and Burnley, Liverpool can win the Premier League next Monday at Goodison Park.

3000 people in 2 and a half months? Do you realise how many people die around the world? And do you realise not everyone who had the virus went to hospital, thus the apparent 2% mortality rate should be lower as well.

3000 people in the first 2 months. New cases are still increasing. I don't understand why people still don't think this is serious.

It is serious but so was swine flu 10 years ago which killed 200k people. 3000 people mostly old or with other health conditions in 2 months. This virus doesn’t even transmit as easily as normal flu. I don’t know why people like you can’t understand that. You’re just being completely fear mongered by the media

No you're wrong. It transmits more easily than regular flu, and there is no vaccine like there is for regular flu. And old people are still people.

It is very serious but postponing matches doesn't help at all. Empty stadiums could have an effect. I don't believe that we can't stop the world enough to actually stop the virus from spreading everywhere

Exactly, Sepsis which no one has a clue about and I’ve had a family member who suffered from that 3 years ago kills 11 million people every year. Why is there no awareness for that.

And yes, influenza, normal flu kill more currently than the coronavirus does. I personally think the overreaction is a bit mental.

I'm really worried about my grandparents but I realize that there isn't anything that I can do besides hope for the best. I believe that we can't stop the virus if it continues to spread like this (which is likely). The scary part comes when the virus changes to worse somehow or if one person can get it multiple times

If your grandparents wash their hands frequently, they will not get it. Also, think about that it’s been around for 2.5 months now and that in Africa / South America where it’s summer, there are hardly any cases. I wouldn’t worry too much, go about your normal routines and ignore everything the media says about it. They aren’t telling you the full story like numbers recovered or that not everyone with it goes to hospital and just get better themselves.

Fear mongering. They want clicks and have no news if they don’t report it 24/7. Yes information but they only present the bad bits all the time. Why not mention who has recovered for example? Just spreading fear into thickos who then go and buy 50 toilet rolls

3000 in the initial outbreak over 2 months. Infections and therefore deaths will be exponential if we get things wrong. Mortilty rate of 2%? The spanish flu was also 2% and that killed 40m. Knowledge and treatment is obviously better, but there are only so many beds in hospital and a much bigger population. This is a big threat as the WHO have said.

It’s not 2% though, because many people have probably had it and not gone to hospital. China, where its at its worst, numbers going down everyday. In Hubei the other day, 0 reported cases.

Seeing Jose slag off Ndombele to the media, and then watching the new United today feels good. They made the right decision sacking him.

      His ways are dead now.

Ndombele will never run that extra yard for Jose now. The United players are getting to the Liverpool levels for Ole.

He's a good coach still, if not as good as previously. His slagging of players, Parrot another recent example, in public is something he's unlikely to change. Reflects very badly on himself but his tactical awareness and coaching is still not bad.

        Talented manager tactically.

But his long-term man-management style needs reviewing. Just look at how Klopp brings the players together, gets behind them, and ignites passion. Mourinho's methods are the complete opposite, and it's made it hard to keep order past a couple of years.

Jose is a fool, publicly shaming a player like that is disgusting and I don’t understand what he thinks we will gain from this?

Anyone who missed Pep's comments before the match.

'He feels better but he doesn’t feel 100 per cent. And we don’t take risks.

‘We have three important games in the Premier League, but of course the position that we have, Madrid and Newcastle are the real important games for us.’

What are Auba owners doing? Assuming he blanks against City I feel he has been an expensive mistake and needs removing in order to get the likes of Bruno, Doherty, Alonso.

Are owners holding for Brighton away? They are no mugs at home and don't concede much.

I agree. I want to sell and get exactly those players. Going to see how Vardy does tomorrow as to whether I get him back or bring in Jota or Wood to enable upgrade to Bruno.

Think I am going to keep him, bench gw31 and play v Norwich in 32 (my bench would be Auba, Bruno and Alonso)

Still weighing up how to fill my 31 teams - whether so sell Auba, 1 mid and 1 defender or sell 1 mid and two defenders

Selling Abua would mean bringing in Wood and Alli - keeping would mean bringing in McNeil and not sure which defenders, possibly PVA and Kiko, thinking defenders who have a good fixture in 32
