De Bruyne out of Manchester derby as Aguero starts City’s Double Gameweek 29 opener

The first of two fixtures for Manchester City in Double Gameweek 29 takes place this afternoon at Old Trafford.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) will not be involved in the fourth Manchester derby of the season, however, as he has failed to recover from a shoulder injury and is not even among the substitutes.

Pep Guardiola said of the Belgian ahead of kick-off:

He feels better but he doesn’t feel 100%. And we don’t take risks. We have three important games in the Premier League but of course, the position that we have, Madrid and Newcastle are the real important games for us.

Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) leads the line for City, while Raheem Sterling (£11.7m) and Phil Foden (£5.1m) are also among the starters.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m) has to be content with a place on the bench, as do the likes of Benjamin Mendy (£5.5m), Kyle Walker (£5.7m), David Silva (£7.3m) and Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m).

Pep Guardiola has made five alterations overall from the side that beat Leicester City in Gameweek 27, although the Citizens have contested three cup matches since then.

Mendy, Walker, the injured Aymeric Laporte (£6.3m), De Bruyne and Mahrez are the men to make way from the win at the King Power Stadium, with Joao Cancelo (£5.2m), Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.2m), Nicolas Otamendi (£5.0m), Foden and Sterling all recalled.

Harry Maguire (£5.3m), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.3m) and Daniel James (£5.8m) have all recovered from injury to start for the hosts this afternoon, meanwhile.

James and Brandon Williams (£4.1m) in for Mason Greenwood (£4.3m) and Scott McTominay (£4.9m) are the two changes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made from Gameweek 28.

The Red Devils look to have switched to a wing-back system, as they have done in several of the “tougher” matches this season.

The three previous meetings between these sides in 2019/20 have all been won by the away team.

Aguero, who averaged 12 points per Double Gameweek last season (City had three of them), was the second-most-popular option for the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 29, with De Bruyne just behind him.

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Lindelöf, Maguire, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Matic, Fred, Williams, Fernandes, James, Martial.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Cancelo, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, Gundogan, Foden, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero.

So would you rather have 4 extra players in 31, or 11 players with 2 games in 34/37?

            oooohhhhh, i like your thinking...

but that assumes i have no DGW players in 34 /37

If i already have c6 by then theres little difference.

34 will be a smaller DGW, so you’ll probably have a few DGWers, but not a full team I’m sure.

do we have any idea how many teams will get a double in each of those GWs, and if so, do we know if any would get a double in both?

Thinking WC in 33/34 for bench boost in one of those gws, build the team for both

Teams dont need to have a double in both (and prob very few will), thats the whole point. Use the WC primarily around one of the DGWs (and BB during it), then use the FH on the other DGW.

Maybe take a hit if theres a good one im missing for the blank but 7-8 players should suffice then.

If you have 8 players, there is no reason to. You would be spending a free hit to bring in three players. And most likely not very explosive ones.

Was talking about Ederson. Sterling does have a tendency to go missing in bigger games, similar to game where they had league nearly won a few years ago and could clinch it against United. Still, he's improved massively under Pep and would lose and find any poster here in his sleep. Miles from being the most overrated player ever.

Don't know what but Vardy is a gut feeling pick. Really think he can't become sh.t over night. Let's see. It's a straight Choice between Vardy & kDB for me.

No rush to ship him out imo. I’ll treat him like Mahrez - happy to have him when he’s in.

Could go Auba I suppose. But likely to go this midfield

              Mo Mane KDB Bruno Martial

Using Ayew as makeweight I should get reasonable defence too.

But waiting in 34 - especially possible Wolves blank

My country's biggest club did quite a nasty thing today (not the first time).
They have a second team in the men's third tier where their u20 players play. But they also have a team in the actual u20 league and now the qualifiers for the u20 league are on.

The actual u20 team isn't good enough to qualify so now they put the second team to play and get them the spot in the u20 league. The second team has many junior national team players so it's pretty unfair for the opponents.

If they succeed in qualifying (likely) they will play in the league with players who weren't good enough to qualify in the first place and then they are near the bottom of the table or in the last spot when the season ends.

Is this alright to you or not?

        Somewhere in Scandinavia I'm guessing.

        I'm going for sweden.

And to answer the OP, no, it feels immoral but if the leagues rules aren't sophisticated enough to prevent this, then why not do it. Club has to do whatever is best for the club

Your guess came quite close. Not sure if it actually benefits the club or not. In the bigger picture it's not good for the country's football as a whole. The goal should be to help the men's national team by growing players in the best way possible and this doesn't help that goal at all.

Pool play Chelsea in DGW37, how many Poolers will you likely have?

A BB would mean a benched Trent & Salah.

Is it Pep's plan to play a mish mash League team and keep his 'important' players fresh to try go all out for the CL?

Wonder what UEFA will do if City win the CL? Still ban them if they are champions? That is where it gets tricky for UEFA.

Whatever the scenario, no more City assets for me after seeing that starting 11 vs UTD and KDB not being risked. Not one.

Did Robbo to Doherty for a hit. If I had kept Robbo I would have Traore 1pt coming off the bench with a Cantwell 1pt following up if KDB is a no-show. So net I am +1pt better off from transferring out Robbo this GW.

Anyone else think this FPL run-in is going to be extremely difficult to navigate? And I don't mean with the chips/DGWs. More just team/player motivation factors.

    - Liverpool will have the title won shortly. Will their players retain the same level of motivation and/or will Klopp rotate?

    - Man City. If today's game is anything to go by, City will have all their eggs in the CL and FA Cup.

Just wanted to air a few thoughts on free hitting in 31 and wanted the views of others on this board if possible.

Firstly I think if you've used your wildcard and aren't prepared for 31 then free hitting obviously makes total sense. Likewise if you're sitting on 1 or 2 players for 31 (regardless of wildcard) then utilising the free hit will be highly profitable.

But what about those of us that currently have 4, 5 or 6 players? I'm making an assumption here but I'd imagine most in this position will have a couple of Pool and a couple of Wolves, maybe even a Pope or a Burnley defender too.

In this situation you could take two hits and add 4 or 5 players, leaving yourself with 8/9/10 for gameweek 31. I think the Free Hit chip is the most powerful chip in the game (ignoring wildcards), so is using it for this gameweek actually going to gain you that much?

I suppose it'll save you the points hits so that'll be 4/8/12 points "gained". In terms of players you'll be able to react to any injury news, and get your preferred Liverpool and Wolves (some might be on double Liverpool defence and want Mane and Salah for this specific GW perhaps). If you run with 8 in 31 you'd get three extra players but chances are these are "conflict" additions (a Sarr when you own Pope for example) or more likely 2 pointers.

Unless you're dead ending your side in 31 and wildcarding in 32, non free hitters will have to consider your squad coming out of the blank GW.

Liverpool - mci AVL bha BUR
Palace - BUR lei CHE* avl
Wolves - avl ARS shu* EVE
Bournemouth - NEW mun TOT LEI
Burnley - cry SHU whu liv
Watford - SOU che NOR* NEW
Spurs - shu EVE bou ARS
West Ham - CHE new BUR nor

*GW34 could be moved depending on the cup.

Looking at the fixtures for those involved in 31 aside from Bournemouth (who along with Palace assets are likely to be lowly owned) there are no horror shows in terms of fixtures.

So for those sitting in a halfway house sort of position is it worth using the free hit in 31? Will there be a better opportunity to use it - for example a DGW in 34 or 35 for example? I'm conflicted, having the free hit up my sleeve after 31 seems like it could be incredibly useful and I'm not entirely sure whether using it in 31 will maximise the value of the chip. Thoughts?

I’m in the same boat. I think it will be a low scoring week.. I’m planning on rolling an FT and doing 3 transfers for a -4 to have 8/9 playing

FH in a double will have way more impact

I've currently got 8 gw31 players and plan to bring in another 3 to have a full 11
That team is set up for gw32 too ... will keep Liverpool trio of TAA, Salah, Mane anyway

Given that there are unlikely to be doubles in 34, (maybe 1), I think I will avoid using a chip that week - as such the additional 3 gw31 players I bring in are likely to be Bowen, Tarko and Cathcart / Kiko .... all good fixtures for 34
