Scoutcast tackles De Bruyne conundrum as Chelsea find form

The Scoutcast is back to discuss all of the key talking points ahead of Gameweek 30.

You can watch the show on our YouTube channel between 20:00 GMT and 21:00 GMT.

Firstly, we’ll discuss what to do with Kevin De Bruyne (£10.6m), who missed Sunday’s Manchester derby and is still a doubt for Arsenal’s trip to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Then, Chelsea are the team to go under the microscope as they build some good form ahead of some favourable fixtures.

Finally, we continue to work on our advanced planning for Blank Gameweek 31 now that we have a greater idea about the fixtures and which players we may want – or not!

We will also consider the potential effect of Coronavirus on the Premier League, and, therefore, our Fantasy teams.

If Bha-Ars is off, I might just do Auba to Vardy.

14 day quarantine from last contact with affected person - which would suggest only 2 more days for Arsenal players thus the weekend game goes on as normal. This is assuming they'll be tested and be fine. If anyone tests positive, 14 day quarantine for players and shut down of club facilities - everything changes.

They may also have to test the West Ham players/staff since they played Arsenal during the 14-day period...

They will but the reasonable assumption is that if an Arsenal player tests positive then they have to test everyone who came in contact with said player ie West Ham and potentially Portsmouth players. Then spirals.

The fixture congestion during the winter schedule has had a massive knock on for man players. Has to be eased in the future, you would think.

Salah on the right this year has been less destructive. Perhaps a temporary switch to the centre or other wing could revitalise ideas.

i really think the travel bans and cancelling games is an unjustified reaction, it's obvious the virus is everywhere, the figures only represent people who've been tested, the actual figures of those who've contracted the virus must be multiple times higher, this is just authorities wanting to be seen to be doing the right thing - i hope everyone is taking reasonable precautions and staying as safe as can be, but the genie is already out of the bottle, it's too late to stop the spread!

    1. pavlev
      • 13 Years
      4 years, 18 days ago

That is true but you've obviously not been paying much attention, the point of these measures is not to try to stop it spreading but to try to delay it, specifically to the summer when hospitals are not already full of people with flu and pneumonia, and so that people die at a manageable rate.

      Seems pretty sensible to me.

not saying it's not sensible, just don't think it will help much, it's only focusing in high profile media events, meanwhile normal travel and social interaction carries on as normal, which is where the main spread will be

'its too late to stop the spread' is not at all any reason not to make active effort to stop the spread - especially because that statement isn't true. Currently the only way to combat CoVid-19 is to contain it. Take every measure possible to prevent it from spreading more. It's the only way for health services to get ahead of it.

in which case let's stop all travel and social interactions which are the effective measures taken in Taiwan, just focusing on the odd big media-hyped event won't change anything, either do it properly or it's a futile exercise, i guess that's the point i was trying to make

i tend to agree with you, in terms of how virus is spread. Areas like airports, boats and ferries should be places where they should focus on. On the other hand, taking precautions is not opposed to doing that, it should be added to the this main precautions.

but realistic mate, see my other points, i'm all for slowing the spread, but it needs to be done properly, not just a football match with what 40-60k people, when millions are on the tube everyday, i don't see the measures taken in South Korea and Taiwan, but my point is if it's a media/tv event then all of a sudden it's a big deal, if we want to tackle it let's have everyone who can working from home, let's have sanitisers available in public places and on transport etc etc

        1. bigbudgie

With regards to this one game I think its cancelled because the Arsenal contingent have been in contact at the Olympiakos game with someone who tested positive. Therefore you can't have the Arsenal staff/players spreading it around when there is a possibility they were exposed.

The UK reaction to the situation has been an absolute shambles. I'm in Vietnam. Schools here have been shut nationwide for 6 weeks. We had 3 weeks with no new cases until it was bought back in on a plane from London!

I don't think the UK is doing the same as authorities here. Each case is obviously isolated, and then the people they have been in contact with are also quarantined or self-quarantined. And I'm talking about to the third or forth level of contact. It's meticulous. Containment here is, and continues to be, extremely well managed. I won't say the apparatus of a socialist state hasn't helped them, it has! But the UK just seems to be saying "Oh well...not much we can do is there". Give it 7-14 days. See how many stadiums are still open...

yeah i agree tbh, i think the more savvy and controlling states, many with a socialist lean, have been better in their reaction, i didn't put it right, all i meant was let's not mess around with half-arsed measures that won't work, just because it's in the media spotlight, peace and health to you

I'm glad you are not a public health official! This take would mean we just totally give up and let thousands more die than is necessary. They know that a large percentage of the population will be infected and are trying to delay the spread to stop healthcare systems being overwhelmed. People who get very sick who have access to medical facilities are far more likely to be OK. So that is where the idea of 'flattening the curve' will save many lives. I'm afraid my DGW captaincy of Aubs rather pales into insignificance!

exactly, so let's have a proper policy to limit the spread, not just the odd sport event, that's my point, i have elderly relations with health problems, and i am concerned about them, what i want is an effective policy, my initial post was probably not stated in the correct way

Sorry, cannot agree with this. How many people die every year from Flu and colds where they have weak immune systems.

This is over-hyped by Social Media and the media in general because they can.

I agree that it is sad that these things happen but what would have happened if this was 1980 for example, no way would this have received such attention. In the meantime it is scaremongering amongst the vulnerable and goes alot further than football. My employer that has 10 + hotels and multi million turnover is seriously struggling for cashflow directly because the guest bookings have dried up, and why because they are spooked, and this putting several hundred jobs at risk, that's the real cost

        Rant over.

If by limiting your interaction with the masses helps to limit the potential spread of the virus, shouldn't this be seen as a positive?

By limiting its spread, this will lead to less and less cases on a daily basis, until it (hopefully) becomes 0. As for those who have it once they recover then they are ok.

With an approximate mortality rate of 2-4%, can you imagine if Wolves travels to Greece with a squad of 25 players and they contract the virus, and going by the percentages 1 or 2 will die?

Some things are bigger than FPL.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of people are travelling round the world on flights picking up people from all countries and visiting all countries.

Flew Perth to Doha and then Doha to Frankfurt last week, both on A380s, didn’t recognise anyone on the 2nd flight. I don’t have it, but if I did I could have transferred it to several nations. Not sure playing a few sports games without fans will do much tbh.

      As stated above-

14 day quarantine from last contact with affected person - which would suggest only 2 more days for Arsenal players thus the weekend game goes on as normal. This is assuming they'll be tested and be fine. If anyone tests positive, 14 day quarantine for players and shut down of club facilities - everything changes.

Well Wildcarding to hit this DGW has cost 20 plus the WC but clearly the medical news is more important. Having said that, if there's games being called off because a single official met some people involved, we must only be days away from the season being paused? I can't see them just cancelling the league but the Euros must be doomed, especially in this pan-European format. It is unfortunate that this novel plan has come at the worst year for it in many years!

I just did a quick calculation and my pre-WC team (assuming I would have captained KDB and vice captained Salah) outscored my WC team by 4 points. Not the worst, but since I'm chasing I have the mentality of every point counts.

virus came from either dead animals or rats, not sure how that works in legal terms? Will you rather sue the dead animals or the rats? prosecution will be hard to come by, you know?

they have to investigate the reason for the spread, and take actions thereafter, in that matter Europe might help with experts and our good health system.

There should be two options to choose from when entering FPL next time round.

Option 1: Start injured players and get bench wankery points.

This option will be named element of/luck or Novice.

Option 2: Tactical, 0 points for starting injured players including no bench wankery points.

This option would be named difficult.

    Which option would you choose?

      1. FOO FIGHTER

But you will still have a bench with option two. The only difference is it will be your choice if you want to start an injured player or not but you will be made aware that if he does not play, 0 points for you.

One fpl behaviour that I have changed this year is letting things slide.

Thinking through my decisions thoroughly, and therefore:
Not chastising myself for decisions that fail. Conversely not being elated when plans work perfectly or better than expected.

Will Pep risk him getting battered against old school bullies like Ben Mee Tarkowski and Bardsley 3 days before vital CL clash against Madrid?
