How FPL transfers and chips will be affected by coronavirus suspension

The Premier League have released official confirmation of how Fantasy Premier League will operate over the next few weeks.

The top-flight of English football has been suspended until April 4 with all matches from Gameweeks 30 and 31 postponed from their original scheduled dates.

That decision was taken after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.3m) tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

With no matches between now and Gameweek 32, Fantasy managers had been wondering what this meant for their transfers, chips and other decisions made in the build-up to Gameweek 30.

The Premier League has now moved to answer all those questions.

You can read the information published on their site below:

What happens to Gameweek deadlines?

The deadlines for Gameweek 30 (Saturday, 14 March, 11:30 GMT) and Gameweek 31 (Friday, 20 March, 19:00 GMT) will remain at their scheduled times. Any activity managers undertake ahead of each deadline will apply to that Gameweek.

Given all fixtures have been postponed for these Gameweeks, managers will earn zero points for their players.

For managers who took a points hit for transfers, their Gameweek scores will reflect the points they lost.

What about Head-to-Head leagues?

In Head-to-Head league matches, if neither manager made transfers incurring points deductions that Gameweek then the matches will be drawn and managers will earn one point each.

What about the FPL Cup?

If both managers incurred no points hits through transfers, their scores will be zero and their FPL Cup match will be decided by a virtual coin toss.

What about transfers, Wildcards and chips?

Managers must also be aware that any transfers made, or Wildcards or chips played in a Gameweek where all the fixtures are postponed will not be reinstated.

Please note that managers can cancel any Triple Captain or Bench Boost chip they have played ahead of a Gameweek deadline. However, this does not apply to transfers they have made, or Wildcards or Free Hit chips played.

What happens to the postponed fixtures?

It is the Premier League’s intention to reschedule the postponed fixtures when it is safe to do so.

Points scored in these fixtures will apply to the Gameweek in which the fixtures are played and not to Gameweek 30 or Gameweek 31.

What happens next?

In this fast-moving environment, the Premier League will provide further updates when appropriate.

These are exceptional circumstances and we appreciate the understanding of FPL managers while the situation evolves.

I don't think there will be one.
As they've kept deadline same amongst all this, they won't change it IF the situation gets better & season gets restarted.

There will be 2/3 huge gw's though 😀

Yep very glad I didn’t use bench boost, free hit or wildcard yet! will roll transfer this week and then oddly make at least one the week after I guess despite no games!

You'll get a small green arrow if you don't use a transfer, as it's a deciding factor in OR.

Given the uncertainty, unless you have someone like Ricardo who is definitely crocked, may be worth burning a transfer.

    Classic Scoring
In a league with classic scoring, teams are ranked based on their total points in the game. You can join or leave a league with classic scoring at any point during the season.

In the event of a tie between teams, the team who has made the least amount of transfers will be positioned higher. Any transfers made using a wildcard or free hit will not count towards total transfers made.

Possible to get red arrow if using just a ft?

    I'm so confused.

I brought in Cantwell & Aubameyang on Saturday night. Are they being reversed?

I hope they at least freeze price changes for a bit.

so it looks like if GW 32,33 etc cant start on early April, those GWs will again be same as GW 30, 31 which we can make 1 transfer and so on... till the GW we actually have a game...

and ranks will be updated wach week
it does not matter whether have a game or not..

and then those blank fixtures will be put in any GWs that play and those Gws will be double..tripple Gws

Another fall-out from this, assuming the virus keeps peaking into April and May:

Given how unlikely it is for sport to resume in April, looks like it will be either blanks or at best some single GWs all the way up to a septuple or octuple GW38.

Some chips will not have an optimum time to be used as such, if there's only one multiple GW.

    1. Manani
      • 12 Years

septuple or octuple GW38, and my captain will still probably blank.....

      1. Greek Freak
        • 8 Years
        4 years, 16 days ago

That's the thing - there would be bench boost or triple captain hauls of 100 or even 200 points + and other teams with lots of injuries and bad luck and no ability to do anything about it. Variance will be huge.

        1. ChuckN
          • 14 Years

This ia a ridiculous scenario, a potential 4+ match game week Triple Captain is hugely unfair to those who have already used their TC chip.

Chips are a blight on FPL anyway. But that's a complete joke.

Surely if it all ends up as one big GW38, it doesn't benefit those who have all their chips because you can only use one per GW. In fact the winners will be those who have used up all but 1 of their chips?

              No.

If every team plays 5 games in 38, the real winners will be those WCing in 37 in order to BB in 38 without taking -36 point hits (could be worth it in itself if 5 games per team), or TCing after picking in 37, for free, their favourite XI for the massive GW38.

How do you not get that?

I do get that, but if you have WC, FH, TC and BB you only benefit from WC+1 of those. Say for argument's sake it's BB. Then you get 0 from FH and TC. whereas those who used FH and TC on earlier game weeks already have greater than 0. Do you get that? 🙂

You can play TC and FH earlier. Then WC 37 bb 38. Sadly I have played my Bb. Can still WC and DH though get a very concentrated 11, no chance of subs being needed!

This is all too confusing. I took out Auba (lost his TC) and pepe and got in KdB and Jesus.

What does this mean? I get points deducted for transfers in GW 32 and we don't need to bother about Free Hit in GW 29?

Next GW is GW30 (completely blank) so if you've taken a hit your GW30 score will be -4 and you'll lose some places.

I don't like the way FPL sorted it out. If more fixtures are postponed it will be a huge mess. Not much possibility to back out of this too if GW30 will already take place in fpl

This is a really stupid way of dealing with this. Surely the sensible approach was to just freeze the game and resume GW30 when that round of games are eventually played.

This is going to massively benefit those who still have their chips in tact. Will possibly be able to free hit or triple captain in a quadrouple gameweek

I wonder what will be the best chip for QGW38. Triple captain I would say

I wouldnt say its TC, because really, you only get one more set of their points over captainers. I think FH would be most valuable

Why FH? Looks like all the teams will possibly have the same number of matches in GW38. After consideration I think WC in GW37 and BB in 38 would be most profitable

I just think being able to pick the absolutely optimal players for a huge gameweek would be worth a lot of points. But I'm just looking at it as for one gameweek, if you look at it over 2 gw's then like you say, WC then BB would be much better

Triple C would be 4 extra matches. BB potentially 16 matches extra

Ok. So we still have no idea when cup games are played and so could be bgw too.

But essentially WC 37 BB 38 must be the plan?

What will they do with price rises? Will they be locked until GW32, if it plays out?

Holgate gave me a -1 off the bench last week.

He can probably find a way of doing it again.

    Surely they'll avoid a quad-GW38, they'll just introduce a GW39, GW40 etc?

The way i am reading it if games actually go ahead it all goes into gw38 for a mega gw.

I believe it's what they will do mate. quad-GWs just wouldn't be right.
Surely their system allows additional GWs but it's not worth thinking about for a while

So fpl have basically stuck to the black and white rules? It’s a bit weird given the reality of what’s happened but I guess that’s better than making something up now. Fair enough

Agreed. At least no one can complain that the rules have changed......
They may need to add more gameweeks, otherwise GW38 is going to be bonkers.

Wonder if the 'homegrown' factor will come into play from GW32.

We may just see many new faces being introduced to the player lists...
