How FPL transfers and chips will be affected by coronavirus suspension

The Premier League have released official confirmation of how Fantasy Premier League will operate over the next few weeks.

The top-flight of English football has been suspended until April 4 with all matches from Gameweeks 30 and 31 postponed from their original scheduled dates.

That decision was taken after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.3m) tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

With no matches between now and Gameweek 32, Fantasy managers had been wondering what this meant for their transfers, chips and other decisions made in the build-up to Gameweek 30.

The Premier League has now moved to answer all those questions.

You can read the information published on their site below:

What happens to Gameweek deadlines?

The deadlines for Gameweek 30 (Saturday, 14 March, 11:30 GMT) and Gameweek 31 (Friday, 20 March, 19:00 GMT) will remain at their scheduled times. Any activity managers undertake ahead of each deadline will apply to that Gameweek.

Given all fixtures have been postponed for these Gameweeks, managers will earn zero points for their players.

For managers who took a points hit for transfers, their Gameweek scores will reflect the points they lost.

What about Head-to-Head leagues?

In Head-to-Head league matches, if neither manager made transfers incurring points deductions that Gameweek then the matches will be drawn and managers will earn one point each.

What about the FPL Cup?

If both managers incurred no points hits through transfers, their scores will be zero and their FPL Cup match will be decided by a virtual coin toss.

What about transfers, Wildcards and chips?

Managers must also be aware that any transfers made, or Wildcards or chips played in a Gameweek where all the fixtures are postponed will not be reinstated.

Please note that managers can cancel any Triple Captain or Bench Boost chip they have played ahead of a Gameweek deadline. However, this does not apply to transfers they have made, or Wildcards or Free Hit chips played.

What happens to the postponed fixtures?

It is the Premier League’s intention to reschedule the postponed fixtures when it is safe to do so.

Points scored in these fixtures will apply to the Gameweek in which the fixtures are played and not to Gameweek 30 or Gameweek 31.

What happens next?

In this fast-moving environment, the Premier League will provide further updates when appropriate.

These are exceptional circumstances and we appreciate the understanding of FPL managers while the situation evolves.

    If any football does resume in May or June then they should just give everyone a free wildcard for the first Gameweek back.

    Would you do any of these transfers? If so which one? I have 2FTs and feel like I may as well use one.

    A. Rico --> Taylor
    B. Dendoncker --> Saka (frees up a 3rd Wolves spot)

    How are people thinking of managing their transfers this week then?

    Could make a transfer with GW32 in mind.

    Could just make a deadwood transfer...

      As said above, I think Im going to use one of my FTs. I actually think this is a good way to do some sorting out of my team. Getting rid of the likes of Rico or moving Dendoncker on to free up a 3rd wolves spot, both are things I have been wanting to do anyway but not had the FTs

    4. Ragabolly
      • 14 Years
      4 years, 15 days ago

      I would refrain from any transfer activity till there are positive signs the season will be resumed. If this is the end of FPL, I would like my rank to be as good as possible, so less transfers matter.

      1. Bubz
        • 10 Years
        4 years, 15 days ago

        Free transfers are gold dust in FPL. I'd rather take the risk of losing a few spots in OR due to transfer in order to use FT's to get rid of useless players

            Any player you get now can get injured/sick, or have a blank. There is absolutely nothing to base the transfer on.

            Also I think there is a high chance FPL will give everyone unlimited transfers anyway once the game is back. Then you just lost yourself some rankings for nothing.

        Interesting approach, hadn't thought of that!

        My assumption is the season will finish at some point, even if it takes a while so I'm not going to worry about transfers made.

        Would be interesting to know roughly how much of a rank difference it could make though

          • 14 Years

          You will get an idea after the next update. I am assuming that FPL will grant managers an extra WC or something like that if the season goes on, so maybe no need to use FTs especially that we have absolutely no idea who to bring/lose

            You're right Sir.
            But if they don't & i haven't sold below mentioned players i think i may get left behind by the trends those gw's especially as I've used WC already (I'm assuming that the player's should be fine yes.)
            Appreciate your advice though 🙂

    Given the likelihood of multiple DGWs, anyone who already used their BB and/or FH is likely to be at a huge disadvantage it would seem.

    As far as this GW is concerned, I'll take my -4 on the chin, however the right thing to do would be to reset everyone's team to it's pre-chip/pre-transfer state. I guess FPL can't be arsed to do this so they've taken the easy way out.

      Agreed - happy to take the -4 on the chin for OR but it's annoying that I'll also be 100% losing my H2H clash this week with someone who is pretty close to me in the table. That seems pretty unfair to me.

    I took a -4 hit to catch a price rise. (Maddison + KDB -> Bruno + Barnes)

    Should I play my free hit chip to neutralise the hit now as it seems there wont be much use of it anymore as almost everyone would have double gw?

    I am leading my ML by just 10 points and H2H by just 1 point

    Finally some information. Since I have no idea of what the next gw which is actually played will look like it might be best to just save some money and get rid of Aurier. So just go ultra cheap?

    a. Aurier -> 3.9 defender
    b. Aurier -> Egan

    McCarthy
    TAA, Alonso, Doherty, Lascelles
    Salah, KDB, Grealish
    Ings, Jiménez, Aubameyang

    What a load of Bol.....ox!
    Those who have planed and played the game well will now likely be shafted by the casuals who still have all or most chips left. I gained 21 points from my BB last week and thought that wasn't half bad. Sadly will pale into insignifcance with a triple or quadruple+ GW, if the season ever gets completed that is.

    Rant over, going for a beer :).

        Exactly
        Although those with WC will have a great advantage IMO

    Got around having no keeper in wk31 then! Shame otherwise as I would have got 10 players out with no hits and most would have had less.

      Not really fair on those who had been transfering and diligently planing for GW 31 though, eh?

    So if the season ever gets going again I'm guessing there will be quite a lot of games in a short space of time. Maybe the way to play these FTs until it restarts would be to focus even more on "nailed on" players as I suspect even more rotation than normal. Also maybe make some cash for players like Son/Kane/Laporte/Rashford who could all come into play.

      Also pick out teams with more to play for - relegation etc as there will be less rotation of top players in these teams. Man City look great on paper with four dgws already (3 at home) but they may likely rotate and play kids lots with little to play for.

    Remember: assuming the league restarts and is completed...every team will still play the same number of games as they were scheduled to before this chaos. Just in a different order and in different weeks. You’ll get all the same points, just over 4 weeks instead of 9.

      Unparalleled situation.
      I think those who saved WC's should be at good advantage if the game starts.
