UEFA aims to have 2019/20 club competitions finished by the end of June

UEFA says that they are committed to seeing all 2019/20 club competitions, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, reach a conclusion by the end of June.

This follows the earlier announcements that the European Championship and Copa America will be postponed until 2021, thus freeing up the summer to accommodate any backlog of domestic and European club fixtures.

READ MORE: Euro 2020 put back until next year

The optimistic declaration obviously hinges on the coronavirus crisis easing, with football having reached a standstill at present and likely to remain in a state of limbo for the foreseeable future.

UEFA convened a video conference with representatives of the European Club Association, European Leagues and FIFPRO on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and potential solutions for football going forward.

The parties involved reiterated their desire to see the current season through to a climax “should the situation improve and resuming playing be appropriate and prudent enough”.

UEFA and its associates added that the competitions in question ought to be finished by “30 June 2020 at the latest”.

In order to make this doable, UEFA said that we could see current restrictions on exclusive calendar slots lifted, resulting in the scheduling of domestic league matches in midweek or Europa League and Champions League ties on weekends.

That is particularly pertinent to Fantasy managers and throws up some interesting possibilities regarding FPL deadlines and Double Gameweeks, should we ever get to that point.

A “working group” composed of representatives from UEFA, the various leagues and its associated clubs has been immediately established to come up with solutions for the resumption and/or conclusion of the current season.

The Premier League will stage its own emergency conference on Thursday, which may provide us with further news.

To read the full resolution signed by UEFA and other parties, click here.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, second-tier clubs in England and Wales unanimously backed a decision to see the 2019/20 Championship season through to its conclusion – should the opportunity ever arise, of course.

If they are willing to play games behind closed doors then I think they may have some luck doing this. If they want to play with fans in the stadiums I think it's unrealistic

Neale - any idea what is happening with price changes? No movement since last Friday. Does this mean FPL has frozen until the season 'resumes' ... Not sure if this has been discussed already but it would be useful to get Scout's view on what is happening here as that may have also some impact on the need to make any transfers...?

There comes a point where a lot of people will have had the virus and have developed an immunity. They’re ahead of the curve, as it were.

The problem is whether clubs, medical staff, police will have enough healthy people to work on match days.

But herd immunity only works when most people are vaccinated.

I’m not talking about preventing people from catching it. My understanding of herd immunity is that it takes affect and protects individuals from catching the virus because everyone they come in contact with is either immune or has received a vaccination; they don’t have any immunity themselves, it’s society (a significant number of immune people) protecting them from being infected. Like a bubble.

Herd immunity works really well with an effective vaccine. Measles, TB, polio etc. Without the vaccine, it's going to take a long time, a lot of people dying, for enough people to become immune. This site is good for the opinions on herd immunity from qualified microbiology experts.

You cannot even assume herd immunity. Even the flu virus changes so much each year that there is no herd immunity to each year's strain.

I'm a Brit living in Germany. Just had a couple of days in England with my German wife but she was panicking that Europe would shut down and we'd never get home again so we came back early. France is in a strict lockdown but when we rolled off the ferry at Dunkerque there was nothing. No checks. We could have gone to Paris for a couple of nights. No controls on the France/Belgium border and no controls on the Belgium/German border. I understand what the EU politicians are saying about containing Corona but I didn't see it in reality today.

I don’t think policies are being enforced, per se. How could they? They must be relying on people’s sense of responsibility.

After all, rural pubs are going to stay open and local communities are going to continue their way of life.

I am Iraqish, I live from Germany, I wonder how Iraq(with below 100 cases) reacted quicker than most of European countries, they should have knew that it is only matter of time until a country lockdown would be imminent, they are very late.

Pandemics don't respect borders. Some "lucky" countries have more resources and good leadership. Taiwan looks to have a great response.

Taiwan have been amazing in dealing with it. The most conflicting thing I find is that the WHO won't allow Taiwan into its ranks as China don't recognise them as a real country, and I still don't think China are giving us their real numbers on cases and deaths.

          TBF, that's worse.

AFL though is a mixture of everything ... rugby, basketball, football and backgammon with a scoring system that requires Carol Vorderman on hand to decipher ... all played on a cricket pitch! And it never ruddy ends. I had the misfortune to attend a Sydney Swans games once as I have friends who are in to it. Like I say though the beer in your seat helps, especially when you get 4 each at once. That's the best bit about all Aussie sports.

With Uefa calling for domestic Leagues to be finished this season, obviously would have had a chat to the FA in the process so one can only assume that the League will be finished behind closed doors.

My strategy will then be to have no players who have European fixtures left. Travelling throughout Europe will be a nightmare...

Correct, once the measures that have been introduced this week to fight the Coronavirus have been lifted regarding social isolation, unnecessary travel etc I see the PL returning to relative normality fairly quickly. Professional football was played with crowds in this country less than 48 hours before that time, so I see something similar happening when we come out the other end of it with this season commencing again probably in July or August. Next season would be massively disrupted, but the PL will have to find a way of dealing with the inconvenience caused by the Coronavirus, like the rest of us have too.

I was thinking the same. I personally believe next season won't start until this season is played out in full. I mean league games only by the way.

So, what to do with the GW 31 transfer? Time to ditch a non-nailed player?

Depends. Personally can't bother to visit the site to do transfers.

This kind of feels moot, but something to do eh ...

I suspect after this GW the powers that will be will just freeze FPL rather than keep the existing GW schedule and blanking each week while granting an FT. Then when/if fixtures resume (June, seems unlikely even behind closed doors but I do think they'll finish them at some point, not doing so has the biggest repercussions of any scenario) just pickup where we left off with the new GW schedule.

That being said, I have 2FT and I feel it's best to use them than lose them as I have tweaks to be made and who knows, maybe they will keep the GW schedule and keep granting FTs. So I'm thinking of doing Button to Pope and then Boly to a 4.3 defender. How does that sound and who is the best defender at that price? Taylor (don't fancy Burnley double up), Dann/Ward and Holgate seems like the options.

    McCarthy
    TAA / Doherty / Stevens
    Salah / KDB / Mane / Barnes
    Jimi / DCL / Ings

    Button* / Sarr / Boly* / Lascelles

'Of course I'll go to the pub!': Boris Johnson's coronavirus plan is thrown into chaos as his own FATHER Stanley vows to ignore official advice to avoid social contact despite Britain now on coronavirus lockdown.

What sort of message does this send when our own PM’s father is ignoring advice.

Hardly a shock as much like his son, the man is an arrogant and clueless buffoon. I watched him on Celebrity Hunted and the twonk kept twoddling on about how he used to be in MI5 yet had no idea that he could be traced by using his credit card.

"We're going to ban events of 500 or more."

Reporter "are you going to the footy tomorrow?" (league crowd of thousands)

No argument from me but if that is so why are they bothering with giving advice when they should simply be shutting the bars down. Is it true the government then becomes liable for all or part of losses to restaurants, bars and others if they decree the closures? Read this somewhere from a poster either here or in FB

At this point we have full BGW30 and full BGW31. I dont think we will start play football soon enough to have proper GW32. So probably FPL will make another full BGW(s) till we decide to play again.
Question is when (if ever) it gonna happen. I can imagine there are plans to play league games behind closed doors (only possible scenario) as soon as possible to finish this season.
Im sure that some countries may be ready to do it sooner and other will do it later as virus hit every country a bit different also because every country has diferent politic and opinion how to react and when to react etc.

We can only guess but lets say in England they decide to play football in late April or May. It can be GW35/GW36. If FPL decide to make BGWs till that moment it will be a big mess! We will have many games to fit in very few GWs. I dont think its a good strategy. We gonna have triple or quadruple Game Weeks (probably wont be played in one week time obv). Thats insane. I think that there should be no deadlines now and game should be paused till we get info when PL will resume (hope it will).

Decision about BGW30 and BGW31 is done now but FPL should start GW32 when we will know when real football gonna play those games.
(If no other games will be played this season than FPL will also end)

The big question is do they even have the capability to edit the site? I’m hopeful they are working behind the scenes to look at moving the current game weeks or adding on to the set 38. All to do with the coding behind the game but it might not be as simple as it seems.

all the remaining fixtures in GW38 would be farcical, you would just have to pick a team and have no control over it so it would turn into pure luck with players getting injured etc. I'm therefore expecting additional GWs to be added, I'm not a computer programmer but surely it can't be that difficult.

This is how I see this. Just WC in GW 37 and BB in GW 38.
IF the season will be finished obv.

If you use your FTs between now and GW38 wisely, you will probably be able to get away without a WC. No BB would be extremely damaging if the remainder of the season in classified as GW38 however.

The can delete or add fixtures in a GW or change the time of deadline so should be possible imo.

They change DPL deadline times regularly throughout the season

When fixtures are first announced all GWs are set to 2pm Saturday deadlines

Then Sky/BT choose their Tv Games & deadlines get pushed & pulled accordingly (e.g. pulled in to 11:30am Saturday to accommodate early games, pulled back to Friday evenings 19:30 for FNF games etc)

I expect they will add game weeks after 38. The using up of gw 30 and 31 just gives people a few more transfers to make adjustments.

      OK, back to work.

This is the logical solution - they just won't be able to add Gameweeks until we have a re-aligned fixture list

Once (Or If 🙁 ) the Premier League announce dates - then FPL can follow suit

I have one Transfer to burn.
Since the GW31 is void, what's the best approach here since we have absolutely no idea how games are going to be re-arranged (if so).

    - Just focus on GW32 ans GW33 and don't pay any consideration to cancelled games which could becime DGW in the next few weeks?
    - or still try to bring some originaly DGW31 players on the basis that those games will have to be played at some point so those will be DGWeekers.

    Still have FH and WC

I'll porbably go with a player from one of the teams which have more games left to play. Would be strange if they start the league again (big if) with a blank.

I'm focusing on GW30. I don't think any games will be played before the scheduled end date of the season, so I am working off the assumption that the fixtures will be played in the same order as they originally were scheduled (probably without blanks GWs).

Parma were so much fun in CM99/00, even though they had just sold Juan Veron & Matthias Almeyda to Sven's Lazio for Silly Money they could field an awesome 3-5-2:

      -------------------------------------------Buffon-------------------------------------------
--------------Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro, Saliou Lassissi-----------------
      Diego Fuser-------------------------------------------------------------Paolo Vanoli
      ----------------------------Dino Baggio, Alain Boghossian--------------------------
      ---------------------------------------Ariel Ortega----------------------------------------
      ------------------Hernan Crespo-----------------Marcio Amoroso------------------

Even the bench was star studded: Mario Stanic, Ousmane Dabo, Johnnier Montano, Marco DiVaio, Paulo Sousa

Ortega in a free role behind Crespo & Amoroso, Fuser & Vanoli set to whip in crosses from deep

A young Gianluigi Buffon being an absolute brick wall behind two of the best centrebacks ever to play the game in Thuram & Cannavaro

They also had possibly the best Jersey in the history of football - https://twitter.com/bet365/status/978005379840987137

Akinfeev was like a cheat code! He was too good

The conveyor belt of talent that used to come out of River Plate & Boca Juniors back in the day was always good to take advantage of too:

Mario Yepes, Andres D'Alessandro, Javier Saviola, Pablo Aimar, Javier Mascherano from River Plate
Walter Samuel, Hugo Ibarra, Juan Riquelme, Carlos Tevez, Martin Palermo from Boca

Then there were the wonderkids - the aforementioned Tonton Zola Moukoko, Mr. Kennedy Bakircioglu, Gavin Holligan, Mads Jorgensen, Simon Davies (!), Kim Kallstrom, Allan Borgvardt, Cherno Samba, Freddy Adu!
