So, I’ve been using my free transfers to build a bench boost team in anticipation for a bumper GW38 (we can but dream)...

    This is what I’ve got...

    McCarthy-Krul
    VVD-Fernandez-Boly-Cahill-O’Connel
    Salah-KDB-Maddison-Grealish-Maximin
    Auba-Jiménez-Ings

How do you think this team would fair?

Question for those on a slow wildcard:

Are you bringing in the 11 best players with 4 bench fodder .... Or are you bringing in 15 players you can start in a BB?

15, although I can can use WC gw37, I am catching rises and flogging fallers. For example got rid of Martin (would have lost 0.1 if held) bought in Hendo (he gained 0.1).
Team is very flexible, I have my doubts they’ll even be another kick of a ball this season.

Good question. 15 for me, but then again I'm one of the few that always plays with 15. I rarely carry a non-playing or long-term injured man for long.

That is entirely the wrong approach for me. Your starting 11 should be your starting 11. That way, you can't beat yourself up over benched points like Joe does most weeks.

Yes, most people agree with you, but personally I don't mind someone on my bench getting points, they're generally on the bench because they're away, so probably home next week, with everyone wanting to buy them after the points and with a good fixture. Meanwhile I can look for transfers elsewhere. Points on the bench aren't as good as points on the board obviously, but I count them as a plus for the squad overall.

Premier league players have been asked to take a 30% pay cut but apparently this equates to £500m in wage reductions, and a loss in tax contributions of more than £200m to the UK government.

That means £200m less to pay for things like the NHS.

The solution? Keep player's wages untouched but they donate 30% of their net take home pay to the NHS.

        • 7 Years

Obvious solution, and I agree. Might as well make it 75% seeing as they players are payed at footballers but no football is being played

First objective surely has to be reducing player wages within each club to keep paying the other staff (on normal wages) and not furloughing them. That keeps employees happy and saves the government money, probably for a lot less than 30%.

These clubs have got more than enough money to not furlough staff. Reducing players wages just means the clubs will have even more money in their pockets and still furlough staff.

I work for a massive corporation. Half the employees cant do very much billable work right now. Furlough isnt for us, the working half have to support the other half. Thats how it works. Keep the economy functioning.

The Premier clubs, players, unions & bosses still burying heads in the sand.

Stop making excuses & get on & contribute.

How can these super clubs owned by billionaires be furloughing non playing staff yet paying the stars eye watering sums every week for FA!

    1. goriuanx
      • 13 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

I take issue with PL owners for sure but less so with players.

It's quite obvious they're willing to help, and have been planning on to before Matt Hancock's attack. Their concerns are to do with where their money will be going and how much - The Athletic suggest pay cuts will cover broadcasts losses for PL too.

It's best off players voluntarily donate directly to the NHS.

That being said, it'd be nice if other missionaries were questioned too - what are the royal family doing to help? What are government ministers doing to help?

And the biggest question of all which has been deflected for weeks - where is the PPE for all NHS staff?

It would help with the economy if milionaires took it out of savings and started pushing it into the base of the economy, but it might be wiser to wait a few weeks on that one.

      • 14 Years
      3 years, 11 months ago

It isn't really about the money anymore it is all about the symbolism when it comes to taking the pay cuts.

When these multi-millionaire clubs started to furlough staff at the tax payers expense the spot light was always going to turn onto the players as they have always been viewed as a bunch of overpaid greedy money grabbers... I just wonder how much their agents are involved in the background.

I reckon FPL are screwing around with the price changes again. No way were there that many genuine changes imo. As an example - hours after yesterday's GW deadline Jack Stephens was on -68 on FPLStats yet dropped in price last night. Are we really to believe that after yesterday's deadline passed there was a mass fire sale on Stephens, taking him from -68 to -100 when there are no matches being played?

Just because Stephens was sitting at -68% on Stats model doesn't mean he couldn't have been at -99% and on the tipping point on the actual FPL algorithm. Stats work is fantastic and so often on the money, but it's just a prediction site based on well researched and well educated calculations. It isn't a transparent model provided by FPL themselves!

First time on here for a while....

    Hope everyone is staying safe!

    Just wanted to say...

They can't possibly do one big massive GW38 to make up for all the lost GW's can they?

What about people who have no chips left? Can you imagine what the advantage would be for those who are holding BB or TC. I could feasibly have 15 players for X amount of games v's 11 players for others. Or I could have a whole series of games from my captain scored at triple points.

I just can't see how they can possibly allow that to play out. The 'result' of this seasons FPL would just become a farce.

Or am I missing something here?

it mat well be logical but it doesn't mean it's what they will do.

They might do that but if I had to bet I would place all my money on them having a massive final GW.

Applebonkers mentioned that they gave everyone an extra wildcard once when there was problems with the game. That might happen too.

That was due to a problem with FPL through their own doing. People not able to get on the site. This is different as there isn't actually a problem with FPL.

Not that it won't happen though. They could easily do that.

Aye true that. This is why I think they will just do 'nothing' and let the game run as it is. ie GW38 will simply start 1 hour before whatever the first game is and end on the last game. Regardless of how many games there are.

They have already started going down the road of doing Jack Schit with these last few GWs running as normal even though there are no games.

Seemingly they are letting the existing game weeks pass, and likely we’ll be at the date of GW38 before, and indeed IF, football resumes, so they either have a bumper GW38, or they add 39, 40 etc....I know nothing about coding etc, perhaps someone who does can advise us on how easy this is to do.

I am a programmer and i can tell you that is doable in few hours. Nothing major that needs to be changed just add some extra fields in a database and the rest of the application logic stays the same.

The issue is, that in way your clown of PM handled the situation, i can't see any football being played even in 4 months from now.

Fair chance there won’t be a vaccine for a 18 months (or longer)

Doesn’t seem conducive to FPL finishing up tbh

Andrew Marr said there is social apartheid in the U.K. at the moment.

Those who can afford a nice house with a garden and can sunbathe and enjoy the lovely weather.

And the rest of us who are on more modest salaries.

I wish I had a nice big garden right now 🙁

Andrew Mar is full of ****.

He should go back to selling Trotskyist newspapers outside Kings Cross train station instead of launching his biased ambush routine on his BBC show,it would more honest work at least.

Andrew is some man to talk about how poor people should live and think while he is in his garden sunbathing.

Your health is your wealth Virg so maybe move to a rural area and you can have all the space you want while at the same time being closer to nature.Cost of living and quality of life is better if you are willing to sacrifice the big bucks and bright lights of City's.

Im leading all my 3 mini cash leagues and have all chips left except TC. Two of those leagues I have over 100p lead and voiding prizes doesnt feel right for me obviously.

      A) Void
      B) Current ranking and pay out all prizes.

If measures aren't already in place by your league to determine the outcome in this scenario, it is completely impossible to make any kind of sensible judgement without a steer from how the Premier league and thereafter FPL handle a league abandonment.

I'd take great comfort in the fact the league is publicly stating intention to resume as soon as possible, and not worry about it until the circumstances change.

Why can't you be strong and make a decision. Doesn't matter what others do. Void the game will keep the majority happy and is the only fair solution as no one has won because the league would be null and void. You can't please everyone.

Unless your cash-league host agreed with all the players before-hand that in any event the season is cut short, payment will be paid out on the current and final positions, it must be Voided (in my opinion).

If monthly prizes have been paid out already, that's fair enough, the rest of the kitty (which won't have been touched) needs to be divided out back to all players (irregardless of their position in the table).

        My two pennies worth.
