National press reporting June date for Premier League ‘Project Restart’

The national press has been reporting this week that the Premier League is hoping to return to action on June 8 behind closed doors.

England’s top-flight has been suspended since the middle of March as the United Kingdom’s coronavirus (COVID-19) situation worsened.

However, plans to complete the 2019/20 season, labelled ‘Project Restart’, have reportedly been stepped up in the last few days.

The BBC reported earlier this week that the league is “hopeful” of achieving a restart by June 8, to fit in with UEFA’s European competition plans.

This would involve the Premier League season coming to a conclusion in July.

It is reported that, in order for the league to hit their target of a June 8 restart, first-teams will have to be back in full training by May 18.

As things stand, a number of Premier League clubs have managed to get some players into training in the last few days, although they are still social distancing within that.

Therefore, it must be said that the progress of ‘Project Restart’ does rely on a few factors, especially the deadline for getting clubs back into full training.

Premier League club executives are set to link-up for important video conference calls in the coming weeks and they will need to come to a consensus before the restart can be booked into the diary with more than just a pencil.

Furthermore, whether or not the top-flight can resume may well depend on what the British government have to say about the state of lockdown in the country.

However, it was reported that Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden had already been in contact with clubs to discuss a restart “as soon as possible”.

“I personally have been in talks with the Premier League with a view to getting football up and running as soon as possible in order to support the whole football community. But, of course, any such moves would have to be consistent with public health guidance.” – Oliver Dowden, speaking at a parliamentary questions session for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

As ever, it will be a case of ‘wait and see’ over whether or not ‘Project Restart’ will come to fruition in the form it has been reported by the press this week.

Who is behind this ‘Project Restart’ at FA level and will they be held responsible if it goes wrong and also ruins next season?

I honestly think next season is in grave danger also Berbs as i reckon there will be postponements through out the season over the virus when you consider the PL season is sandwiched up against the European Cup next summer then it might be hard to finish if this is the case.

If this ‘Project Restart’ stunt does not work which in nearly a certainty imo then most likely that delays the start of next season even more.

This season is already canceled Feanor and the only ones that don't realize it are the empty suits at the FA who are in the business of having meetings that schedule another meeting.

Until there is a vaccine there are going to be issues irrespective of whether it's completing this season or starting next season

Football should only return when it is safe to do so, there seems to be a fascination to scrap this season and start the next on time, but the same issues will be present

In my honest opinion, they should curtail this season using PPG sand perhaps look at starting next season at a later date (scrap the cups to make room)

I don't want football to be used an excuse when the inevitable second wave appears

If next season doesn't happen because it's not "safe" the clubs will have no income at all - so how do players expect to get paid ? That suggests to me that when the government give the game the green light to proceed behind closed doors it will resume. That some players don't fancy it will be irrelevant.

It's probably one of the reasons behind Project Restart, a potential 860m loss if games aren't completed. That's before individuals wages etc

I just think this season has no chance to be "restarted", cause of all this virus hype... Just imagine that one player or stuff member gets positive again? IMO, if the situation stays like this, no chance! Also, the start of the next season is a big question...

          This.

At some point, businesses (and football is a business don't forget) are going to have to re-open with new protocols and guidelines.

Until a vaccine is found and ready, there will always be a risk that there will be a next wave. But partly that's what the lockdown and other measures have served to try and minimise the spread of this virus. At some point when it is deemed safe enough, life has to go on, but any sudden virus reappearance will cause postponements etc. That's where the guys wearing the suits have to decide on the post-Covid protocols and guidelines.

If a vaccine is only going to be ready in let's say 18 months, then yes, may as well close down football for next season too.

Football only closes down either if the government say it must or there are not enough footballers prepared to play. I can't see the first happening because the government will want a return to normality and for the second there are bound to be enough players who will play even if all of them do not - ultimately it comes down to no play, no pay. Can you really see players accepting jobs picking fruit in fields ?

I wouldn't think so - the issue with declaring Liverpool champions without playing all the games is that it would then follow that three clubs should be relegated - and that would almost certainly lead to legal action.

Given Man City would need to outscore them by 22-25 points in 9-10 rounds, it was slightly more likely than Fulham catching one of the top 2.

Fulham have a case as well - re the playoffs. The point I'm trying to make is that the can of worms opened by saying that the season happened despite not all games being played is rather more serious than saying that the season did not happen because not all the games were played.

It's not a question of sanity - it's a matter of legal analysis. Either the season took place - in which case Liverpool are champions but additionally three clubs are relegated - or it did not - in which case there are no champions and no relegated clubs.

And the cost in France is like what ? Tuppence halfpenny ? In England it runs to hundreds of millions - at which point the lawyers get a phone call.

Show me where this precise outcome and or topic is listed in the laws of the United Kingdom, please.

Under what standing can anyone sue anyone here? Are you talking about the bylaws of the Premier League and FA?

You don't understand the UK .
Firstly the Premier League is a company in which every club has one share and in accordance with company law the company must be run according to the rules of the company. The Premier League rules require that every team must play every other team home and away each season and at the end of the season the team with most points are champions and the three teams with the least are relegated to the Championship. The rules of the Premier League can only be changed if 14 of the 20 teams vote that they should be.
Secondly Common law in England gives everyone the right to sue in natural justice or contract or tort ; if the Premier League do not apply their own rules the courts will be asked to decide if the clubs from the Championship suing have the right to insist that those rules are applied.

        For everyone citing PSG’s title win as a reason why the same should happen in England;

Ligue 1’s rules specify that if a season can’t be completed for any reason, the current league table is final. France is the only country with this rule. Confirmed by President of French FA.

          Its an ENTIRELY separate issue.

You think they're linked. They're not.

There's different ways for Championship promotion/relegation to work (or not) that I've seen, starting with:
          1) No relegation or promotion at all.
          2) Promotion of 2 or 3 teams from Championship, but no relegation, and more teams in the Prem for 20/21 season. Creates some minor scheduling headaches, but..solveable.

That's just for starters and imagine there's other permutations I haven't even heard of yet.

Sure they are. It's just scheduling. Why is "20 teams only!" sacrosanct?

Didn't there used to be MORE teams in the Prem when it first started?

Best replacements for Bruno and Pukki, 15m to spend?

    Have Mahrez, Wood and Jota.

Another option would be those 2 + Doug.Luiz (-4) > Alli, Lamela and Ayew with Ayew fodder for the time being.

    Cheers.

Martail+Rashford/Jiménez and take the hit to downgrade someone else to fodder maybe.

Mahrez has been great but with all the great players City have they cant all play like in real life so maybe he is just too much of a rotation risk in the long run.I am thinking about replacing him after i sort out the flagged players in my team.

If anyone else has simulated Spurs' fixtures - how is Moura faring (or Alli/Lamela)?

I've run three and he's ended on 7 (vs. Chelsea), 10 (vs. Brighton), 16 (vs. West Ham).

No idea how Spurs will far against Sheffield, but at least it's a home game.

Ragabolly, could you please check what happened to our vFPL teams

I've sold Fernandes before this round and I still have him for the next one

I sold him & he's not in my team next GW. Not user error?

Hmm interesting. Did you make the transfer right before the deadline?

I will fix it but later tomorrow probably as I have no access to the game currently

Yup If you sell someone on a FH, they will be back in your team next GW.

Fortunately Salah didn’t go mad this time around.

But yeah, the sim doesn’t really like Mane much, it would seem.

It did originally. Don't think it has a grudge against him.

He is literally ranked 3rd in the game points, how can the sim not like him?

He misses a lot of chances. The guy is a lethal finisher in real life. Every time I follow a game he’s always missing chances.

Love the game, though, Ragabolly. 🙂

Attack involvements are not the same thing as goal chances. I should have made that clearer
