Using the ‘per 90’ tool to assess FPL forwards with the best goal threat

We conclude our series of members articles on the new “per 90 minutes” metric with an assessment of the standout forwards for goal threat in 2019/20.

Our attentions focus on those who have impressed when it comes to shots inside the opposition box – it’s worth noting that, in order to qualify, they need to have played a minimum of 800 minutes.

As someone who's already used their bench boost I do find it funny that all you dullards now have to decide whether to take the maverick gamble of a mega gw38 haul or the biggest waste of a chip since someone added salad. Good luck

Rhinos are known for their ill-temper, but many do not know that this is due to their poor eyesight rather than their general disposition. Because they are so nearsighted, many movements that appear harmless will actually frighten a rhino and incite it to charge.

The silence is deafening from FPL

Hopefully Project Restart come up with a fixture list & they whack in those 9 extra GW's with a few DGW's for the teams with 10 games

Wouldnt be surprised to just see the whole thing canned this weekend either unfortunately

It's quite ridiculous how they have made no announcement. If it's being finished as is then fine but just make a damned decision. Even for a free game it's really poor.

Surprised the 'pros' and those who run this site and have been on the official fpl tv thing are not putting more pressure on them for everyone. They no doubt have better contacts there than any of us and should be applying some influence to press for an announcement.

If it’s finished I’ll be annoyed they made me think of 1 transfer a week to be honest would mean they just wanted traffic to keep going to the site when they knew they were done. I think they should award points one way or another if games go ahead now. 92 Game gameweek is ridiculous So they should be adding extra gameweeks. Not saying they will but it’s what they should do.

It's frustrating. I don't think FPL realise the importance of knowing their intentions ahead of this Sunday in regards to activating chips.

UNLESS, they are now so sure that people are going to have the option of setting up their teams they're just not worried about saying anything now. Maybe we are all getting wildcards/chips restored/new game weeks to prepare for etc? That would be one reason for their silence. The other of course is perhaps they know full well the game is finishing on Sunday so it just will not matter what people do ahead of deadline.

I think you have a right to feel annoyed at someone wasting your time, whether you're paying for their services or not. If they've known for 8 weeks FPL is simply going to end on Sunday they should have just stated that. I think that's the point that's being made here.

If they know that they have no intention/capability of adding the remaining fixtures into the game or adding further game weeks they will simply be concluding the game after GW38 on Sunday.

This still remains speculative though . Similar to the majority of the population maybe they have a far bigger real life situation to consider as opposed to an online fantasy game.

It is speculative but I think you're missing the point. I'm just saying IF FPL know the game is concluding on Sunday the decent thing would have been to tell people in advance, that's all. In a way I hope it's not ending, although that makes it frustrating not knowing what their plan is.

It's the cup thing that could be the big give away. Why sort the cup via virtual coin toss if they had intention of adding any gws. It doesn't say anything definite of course but makes you wonder

No worries. Yes on the cup and why continue the game at all? They do have the ability to move game week deadline dates. We know that because they do it normally. They have chosen to play the game out to it's normal conclusion which doesn't feel promising for it resuming at some point. Hopefully we will know soon.

wonder what happens to cash leagues if this happens. Our leader is 100pts ahead with only triple cap used so for him not to win would be daft. But those just outside the money would argue that it's unfair to pay out as is because the rhino in 2nd has used all his chips

If the number one is declared winner of fpl, then it means standings are final, so pay the leader. If the fpl season is voided, then refund everyone's money in the league but that seems very unlikely.

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet as I don't actually know what FPL are doing. My initial reaction to my mini league members was I'm just going to try and replicate what they do in real life. In short, if Liverpool are awarded the title then so should the mini league leader. It's the same principle in my eyes.

agree. Harsh on those just outside the payouts but then again it'd be harsh on those who were winning if voided. And you can't have a vote imo because every league has way more who'd benefit from a refund

Yep, agree on the vote. That's the big problem with the Prem vote in my opinion. Obviously there's more who benefit/have no loss from voiding than not. I'm still not sure what I'm doing about the money side of things. It's small values in my league so not as big a deal. I may yet pay out refunds as low as I can (manager of months have already been given out). I will certainly award 'honours' though if the Prem do.

If FPL is canned this weekend I don't think there's any point in signing up for a new season in August. Surely there will be some Covid related problems next winter too, and if they're not gonna be flexible about things the 20/21 season won't finish either imo.

I was thinking about this a lot in recent weeks. The very game itself may need a significant update. Even when football returns there could be a much greater possibility of postponements and players missing games for Covid reasons. In the current FPL format it could be a struggle simply getting 11 players out on the pitch. Maybe they'll need to look at larger squads/more subs etc.

      1. Lukakuna

That could be a good idea.

I think what's most important is that they're upfront and transparant (like that's gonna happen) so the game is about guessing who's gonna score, instead of guessing what gameweeks will be part of the game

Neale done a great article covering the possibilities but I'd be interested to hear some of your thoughts (or did I miss it on the Scoutcast I haven't listened to yet?). Any 'blind bench boosters' amongst you?

I think that if we get no info from FPL towers than most sensible thing is just do nothing imo and I think majority of them will do so. Using BB or any other chip is a waste.
If they add extra GWs than we will need all remaining chips but if the game is over than using BB now still make no sense.
Some of managers looking for the scenario with big final GW with all remaining fixtures be in it but I really high doubt it will happen. Even FPL site says that GW 38 will be a blank one same as previous GWs. So even if a big GW scenario happen it would be a GW39 (so than you can press BB) but if they can add GW 39 than they can also add more GWs to play remaining of season properly so...I dont see a big GW comming 🙂

I've still got the Bench Boost chip in hand but I'll not be using it, unless we get an update from FPL (looking more and more unlikely) before Sunday's deadline stating that GW38 will be a bumper one. I still think that scenario is the least likely of the three (the others being additional GWs and the game simply ending) but, as Epic says below, it's a bit of a guessing game even for us.

I think I'm leaning towards the game just ending.

At first I did think it would just be a massive GW38 but that's starting to look less and less likely, but there is still a chance of it. Either way let's hope they give us some info before Sunday. It will be horrible if it actually does turn out to be a massive GW38 but they don't actually tell us until after the deadline.

Cheers Neale. I think we're in total agreement then with the options and yes, it's a total guessing game. Are you brave enough to tell me what you think about FPL's handling of it all? Do you think they are correct to stay silent and keep their options open? Do you think we should have received more of an update by now? Or are you unable to hint at anything critical given the job you're in? 🙂

Ha! Well, I'll obviously have to be diplomatic in my response...

I don't know this but one of the reasons could be red tape, in that they might have to wait for some concrete news in a wider sense and get the PL's seal of approval (it's ISM who run the game on their behalf) before outlining their own plan in turn. It'd be helpful if there was an "if X happens, we'll do Y"-type statement but maybe the PL are dead against dealing in hypotheticals, even with FPL. Their last statement ("We will make a further announcement on any fixtures scheduled for after 17 May, 2020") kind of covers them in terms of not saying anything for now, even though it leaves a whole lot of uncertainty.

But I'm yearning for some sort of an announcement as much as the next manager, not just for BB/GW38 purposes but also the rejigged fixture schedule, whether there'll be FA Cup-influenced blanks/doubles further down the line etc.

Thanks Neale. That was very diplomatic and a good point on the possible 'red tape' situation. I guess we can only hope that if FPL returns they do actually allow managers to make adjustments to their team/use chips etc. I think it's the idea that we may be 'locked in' after this Sunday's deadline that's causing the most anxiety for some. Thanks again Neale and hope you and your family are keeping well,

I've already used my bench boost - you probably didn't know that because I barely mention it 😉

For real though - I've got 2 free transfers and not a whole lot more I want to do with my team outside of what I've already done (I haven't burned a transfer yet).

I may change Henderson for a different goalkeeper and roll the other transfer.

Otherwise it's only FH for me left, might as well save it until we hopefully get more info.

Sorry! Completely forgot you'd played your bench boost! You mention about 'rolling a transfer' which is one of my dilemmas ahead of Sunday. Of course in normal circumstances GW38 is the last GW, so rolling a transfer isn't possible. Cheers for the input and hope you're well,

If/when FPL continues, who you rather:

    A) martial
    B) richarlison

    ?

Martial in general, but then it depends on order of the fixtures too.

I feel having 2 United attackers is a must for the rest of the season, so unless you already have Fernandes & Rashford I'd go with Martial. Richarlison is decent value though.

He does have nicer fixtures and maybe more to play for than richarlison. Thanks

FPL - I'm wondering if the games programmers can add extra GWs after GW 38 or whether they will have to put the remaining games into GW38. There's possibly technical issues that will play a part in their decision making.

This is the million dollar question. I suspect they'll add additional weeks... they've had enough time to prepare.

I think FPL season finishes sunday. I cant see them recoding/adding anything as it call all fall apart again if a few players get infected.

Possible long shot of a mini game I suppose for the remaining fixtures, if not someone on here will do one I'd say
