Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Double Gameweek 30+?

Manchester City are the focus of the Double Gameweek 30+ captain poll.

Their assets have dominated the discussion boards for weeks since the fixtures were announced, and now it is time to make the big decision.

We’ve compared all the best options to help you chose the right one for your team…

Captain Poll

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.6m) is the current poll leader heading into today’s deadline, backed by 40.1% of voters.

With two matches and more minutes than any other outfield Manchester City asset this season, that is not a massive surprise at all.

The Belgian is top of the league for assists in 2019/20, with a total of 18, and his eight goals so far this campaign already matches his best tally in a Premier League season.

Not too far behind him is Sergio Aguero (£11.8m), who has garnered the support of 33.9% for the very same fixtures as De Bruyne.

The Argentinian has five goals in his last six against Arsenal and the same number in his last six against Burnley. He also started seven of the last nine matches before lockdown, suggesting that Pep Guardiola still favours him over Gabriel Jesus (£9.6m).

The gap between those two Manchester City options and the rest of the pack is rather large.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) has come up in third place but still only managed to pull in the support of 6.2% of voters.

The Arsenal man is generally afforded more minutes than the average Manchester City asset, although there is a tight turnaround between fixtures in Double Gameweek 30+.

Either way, he is still in the Golden Boot race with 17 goals this season, two behind Jamie Vardy (£9.7m) and, if he were to bridge the 15-point gap between him and the Leicester man, he would be in with a chance of being the top-scoring FPL forward for two seasons in a row.

Jack Grealish (£6.4m) is a surprise inclusion in the top five for the poll results, but support for the Aston Villa man is understandable. He has 14 attacking returns this season, more than any colleague.

Raheem Sterling (£11.7m) completes the top five with the backing of 4.7%. We imagine the support for him is so small on account of his rotation threat and his poor form going into lockdown.

His last attacking return came in Gameweek 19 with his tally for the season standing at 13. The last two seasons have seen Sterling get up to 35 and 32 respectively, showing just how much of a struggle 2019/20 has been for him.

    a) Ederson, Baldock, Stevens, Vardy
    b) Leno, Egan, Basham, Aguero

The question is whether Aguero will outscore Vardy more than (Ederson + Baldock + Stevens) outscore (Leno + Egan + Basham)

Partly, why i am considering (a) is because I want Vardy for the next game and have value tied to him

    Advice pleaseee~

Tammy has been number 1 all season when fit, but Giroud was picking up some decent form before the break while Tammy was injured. It's likely that Tammy starts but I'd say about 70%

Do you think Aguero will start both home games and be rested for the away trip to Chelsea?

My thinking is that Jesus is more favoured for away games and Aguero at home. Also Pepe has expressed how important the FA cup is to him and that will leave Aguero fresh for the FA cup home tie against Newcastle, a team that’ll sit very deep and which suits Aguero’s style rather than that of Jesus. Aguero’s record against Newcastle being phenomenal.

Appreciate your thoughts on this 🙂

Costacoffee, what’s you’re reasoning for Pepe playing Aguero v Chelsea? Chelsea will play more open football which suits Jesus using his pace to get in behind.

Kysersosa, I agree, he’s hard to predict haha.

I'm not sure but I think Jesus will be increasingly used, especially with 5 subs now. Pep said he would use all 5 subs (to combat injuries from arising) and also:

"For example him, [Raheem] Sterling, Bernardo [Silva], Riyad [Mahrez] and Kyle [Walker], these kind of players they take the physical condition quick because it is normal, and I think they have more opportunities to stay longer during the game."

So I'm looking at putting my Aguero money into Sterling instead as I think he is less likely to be rotated

      https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/12008392/pep-guardiola-manchester-city-will-use-all-five-substitutes-to-prepare-for-champions-league-return

It’s true that Sterling can recover quicker than Aguero and is probably better long term but just for the double game week, Aguero might be more explosive. Sterling also has to compete will more players whilst Aguero only has Jesus.

100% with you. I had the same template, then changed to the following to give my bench some value.

      Leno, Henderson
      TAA, Doherty, *Basham, Stephens, Egan
      KDB, Sterling, Grealish, Mount, Barnes
      Aguero, Jimenez, Nketiah

You can get sucked into the DGW and getting in players that wouldn't usually get a sniff. I thought GW33 has potential for a decent BB.

No, lol. My BB team is above. I think there is certainly a case for not BB this week, if your bench is full of Fodder. My bench now is Leno (DGW), Doherty (whu), Nketiah (DGW), Stephens (nor). I think this is a lot better than some of the benches out there. Also the problem with this weeks DGW players is the options. Arsenal really only have Aubameyang and Leno, SHU their defense, Villa - Grealish and Man city - well they have more of a chance but minutes are a concern. So point being people are trying to squeeze poor options from these teams.

Are we all making a big mistake by including Auba in our BB teams at the expense of better SGW options? What if he does nothing against City, would it have been worth having low scoring DGW players to pay for him? These are my teams with and without Auba.

    1/ With Auba

    Henderson. Leno
    TAA, Lundstram, Egan, Targett* Lascelles*
KDB, Sterling, Grealish, El Ghazi* Saka
    Aguero, Jimenez, Auba*

    2/Without Auba

    Henderson. Leno
    TAA, Lundstram, Egan, Alonso*, Doherty*
    KDB, Sterling, Grealish, Fernandes* Saka
    Aguero, Jimenez, Nketiah*

I've marked the players who I would have with and without Auba. What do you think?

I know but once he blanks against City would it have been worth it? In my case I would have forgone:

        Doherty playing West Ham
        Alonso playing Villa
Fernandes playing Spurs and he always seems to return

for 2 Villa players and Lascelles

Was going to post something similar for my team
With - Auba, Targett, Ward, Norwood/Fleck
Without - McBurnie, Bellerin, TAA, Mount

Going McBurnie over Nketiah I think and Targett might actually be better than Bellerin (if Villa CS against Utd) but being able to hold onto TAA over a Palace or maybe Southampton defender is very appealing!!

True but most bences when playing BB aren't that aspiring anyway. At least with Leno, Lund, Saka and Nketiah, they are potentially all playing twice.

True, I just worry that all those outfield players won't play twice. Then it becomes a question if you would have those players on BB for a single GW. I definitely agree on removing Auba though!

I'm deciding not to use free hit and to take advantage of unlimited transfers. RMT please:

    Leno
    TAA – Laporte – Egan
    KDB – Grealish – Mount – Saka
    Aubameyang – Aguero – Jimenez
    (Button, Fernandes, Jonny, Lascelles)

    Hows this FH looking?

    Henderson (Trash)
TAA - Egan - Lund (Aarons, Williams)
Kdb - Sterling - Pepe - Grealish (Trash)
    Auba - Aguero - Nketiah

Rumours of Fleck being injured. I'd have him anyway as it's likely he starts one and gets 20 mins in the other.

Where are the Fleck rumours coming from? I can't find anything

TL;DR - Rumours from a previously reliable SHU source that O'Connell and Fleck are injured (they also say that Lundstram starts)

Currently on A but not sure on the El Ghazi and Saka picks and really want Mount against a tired Villa.

    A) Baldock, El Ghazi & Saka
    B) Egan, Mount, Doug Luiz (or anyone below £4.5m)
