Kane and Son set to start as post-FPL deadline injury news begins to emerge

Six Premier League managers held their pre-Gameweek 30+ press conferences on Thursday, with some key quotes and injury updates emerging from the various conference calls.

It’s too late for Fantasy Premier League managers to do anything about this fresh information, of course, but those playing the Sky game can still tinker with their sides ahead of Friday’s action.

We’ll round up the main headlines from today’s virtual media gatherings in the article below.

Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourinho confirmed that Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Moussa Sissoko will all start against Manchester United on Friday, with that trio and Steven Bergwijn having all recovered from injuries during the lockdown period.

Speaking to the media, Mourinho said:

Kane, Son and Sissoko, they recover and they are ready to play.

I can tell you, no problem, [Kane] is going to start the game. Does Harry have 90 minutes, 80, 70, 60 [in him]? I don’t know. I think only the game will tell us that.

The three players who had surgery – Sissoko, Son and Kane – yes, they are going to start.

The Spurs boss added that he was unsure if Giovani Lo Celso will be able to start tomorrow’s match after some fitness issues but is hopeful that he can feature in some capacity.

Japhet Tanganga (back) and Dele Alli (suspended) miss out.

Manchester United

Rashford plays down injury worries after latest FPL double-digit haul

United will be down two back-up centre-halves in north London on Friday but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer otherwise reported a clean bill of health, saying:

We have two players, Phil Jones and Axel [Tuanzebe] will miss this game and the start. Let’s see how bad they are. Apart from that the rest of the squad is fit and available.

On the fit-again Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, Solskjaer added:

If selected, Marcus and Paul… they’ve been out for a long, long period but they are available. How long they’re going to play for, let’s see.

Norwich City

Why there is still more to come from Lundstram despite latest blank

Norwich City were handed a triple injury blow on Thursday as Daniel Farke revealed that Grant Hanley (hamstring), Sam Byram (hamstring) and Christoph Zimmermann (back) will miss the rest of the season.

Marco Stiepermann has returned to training having self-isolated following a positive coronavirus test but won’t be considered for the visit of Southampton.

Burnley

Ashley Barnes (hernia), Chris Wood (Achilles) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (calf) will all miss the trip to Manchester City on Monday.

That trio may be sidelined for a little while longer, too, with Sean Dyche saying:

They definitely won’t make this early period of these games.

We’re really working hard with them and you’re going into the world of keeping your fingers crossed when you’ve got so many games in such a short space of time.

You only have to miss a couple of weeks and you could miss five or six games.

Watford

Watford have three definite absentees ahead of the visit of Leicester City, with Nigel Pearson telling reporters:

Isaac Success has ruptured his Achilles. Deulofeu won’t be available this season, he’s got a serious knee injury with his cruciate. Janmaat won’t be available this season either. But everybody else more or less is available.

Pearson confirmed that Troy Deeney was available for selection following his belated return to full-contact training.

Leicester City

Ayoze Perez and Ryan Bennett were both passed fit on Thursday, although Brendan Rodgers did reveal that Dennis Praet (calf) was a concern ahead of the trip to Watford.

Rodgers said:

Both those players [Perez and Bennett] have been back in training this week, so they’ll be available. Dennis Praet is a doubt, but we’ll see tomorrow if he’s going to make the squad or not. If he doesn’t then he should be fine for Tuesday.

The rest

We’ll hear from Jurgen Klopp on Friday ahead of the Merseyside derby but the Liverpool boss has already been speaking to the Reds’ own website and sounded fairly positive when asked about his side’s injury situation, saying:

In the moment, nobody really is ruled out for Sunday, but we have to see. A few trained more, a few trained less, most trained all [sessions], so that’s good news and in the end we will have a good team on the pitch, 100%.

Four teams have already been in Gameweek 30+ action, of course, and there were plenty of injury updates to report from the respective managers’ post-match interviews.

John Fleck (knock) and John O’Connell (knee) missed out on Sheffield United’s goalless draw with Aston Villa but the Blades may have one of those players back on Sunday, with Chris Wilder saying:

Fleck, we’ve got great reports that he trained nearly full tilt so he’ll train tomorrow [Thursday] and he’ll be available for Sunday. Fingers crossed he comes through a clearance session.

Jack [O’Connell], we’ve got a decision to make. We’ve got a specialist report on it but we’re hopeful that it’ll be short-term. He isn’t out for the season just yet, we’ll look at it, but if he is, then we’ll adjust and adapt.

Dean Smith said of Villa’s absentees, meanwhile:

Bjorn Engels has an Achilles issue. He’s not going to be around for the next week or two at least. Frederic Guilbert’s the same, he’s injured. Danny Drinkwater should be back training at the end of the week. He picked up an injury against Leicester last week.

Pablo Mari (ankle/calf) and Granit Xhaka (ankle) were forced off early in Arsenal’s defeat at Manchester City, with Mikel Arteta saying afterwards:

They are getting assessed at the moment then we will know something more tomorrow morning. Pablo’s one didn’t look very good to be fair.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported bad news on Thursday evening, tweeting:

City announced on Thursday afternoon that Eric Garcia has been released from hospital after suffering an injury during the win over the Gunners.

The defender will be monitored in the coming days, ahead of a return to training and competitive action.

Pep Guardiola hinted at changes against Burnley on Monday in his post-match interview.

Looks solid but KDB could punish you. How do you think MUN will to against SHU? I'm thinking to swerve them on FH because it will differentiate my team from wildcarders and SHU will likely be hard to break down.

I don’t really trust utd who knows how they will play. Bruno ownership is why I am getting him I definitely won’t be rushing into 2 attackers regardless of fixture.
KDB is in my normal team so just missing him for the one week - away to Che is no walk in the park so I’ll risk it.

So if wanted say KDB, who goes to make way probably Kane and another midfielder that’s the other thing I don’t like about KDB in FH. Might seem to simplistic but just going for it with 11 that have good home fixtures.

I know FF Scout can do little about it but team line up leaks are the worst of all. Covid-19, Hillary Clinton Russian love affairs, dangerous gossip on facebook shows how human mind works in negative ways sometimes.

2 Sheffield utd Defenders is pushing it evens for the bench With the fixtures they have. Obviously Lundstram can do anything but look at swapping Egan. At that price point I don’t know who else is available.

A few from our academy show promise. Smallbone looks to have a decent part to play next season, and maybe even for the rest of this season, having just signed his first pro contract last week. Jake Vokins starting to look like a very good left back, maybe even Bertrand's backup next season. Both scored in our FA Cup game vs Huddersfield on their debuts.

And of course Mikey Obafemi, our little Irish wonderkid. He's gotten in the Golden Boy shortlist this year, and he's currently seen as Shane Long's backup/rotation partner. Quick as a whistle, intelligent runner, just needs to work on his fitness and finishing more.

I had planned on using my wildcard for the next GW. And I have gone a bit OTT with the attack as you can imagine and this has resulted me in being a bit short at the back but I think my defence is capable enough really.

    My first initial first draft was as follows;

    Pope, Button
    Lascelles, Taylor, Doherty, Robinson, Simpson
    KDB, Mane, Son, Fernandes, Cantwell
    Kane, Jota, Rashford

Looking back at it now I could easily downgrade Cantwell to Guendouzi and spend the extra money on my defence to imrpove Simpson or Robinson if he doesn't play, but any advice will be much appreciated. Also comment on what your drafts are looking like.

It looks good and that slight imbalance is obvious as you will never start Cantwell when you have those 7 so yeah making him fodder makes sense to me for a defence upgrade but it’s not critical for this week.

Rashford was involved in 19 goals in 22 pl games before Bruno arrived. (14g 5a)

Imagine how good his returns could be with Bruno's creativity behind him.

Interestingly of the 5 penalties Rashford has scored in he league his season he was actually fouled for 4 of them

Brandon Williams was fouled for the most recent vs Norwich - all of the others (Chelsea, Leicester, Spurs, Man City) he won himself - so were Bruno to have stepped up instead (had he been there), Marcus was still getting assist points for them

Throw in the fact that he wouldn’t have been deducted the 4 points for the two pens he missed (the other Norwich game Dan James was fouled & Palace after McTominay was fouled) and he’s back effectively level on points vs his penalty-taking self

Not to mention the fact that he’d be playing in a dramatically improved attacking unit with Bruno on board... the kid should be up to his knees in attacking returns for the next few seasons all being well...

Bruno & Rashford look a dream FPL combo pretty much “covering” DFK’s & spot kicks for the reds i reckon

I had a feeling that Rashford must be outscoring Martial by many points this season. But it's not the case.
Fact that, the pens are now off to Bruno & Martial gets additional CS + Goal point i am going for Martial instead of Rashford.

Both will do well though with creative genius behind them

And you also got the upgrade to Cantwell so the tweaks look good.

No Henderson is a massive loss to SHU

No coincidence they conceded 3 at home to Man Utd last time they played this season (they’ve only conceded 10 goals in total in their other 14 home games this season)

And that was a version of Man Utd far inferior to the current Brunandez revolution led team plus its at old Trafford

Definitely. Villa were denied 2 clear cut goals by 2 brilliant saves from Henderson.. He will be a huge miss vs united.

Despite Sheffield united getting so many cs they still allow so many big chances often saved by Henderson

No Hendo, potentially no O'Connell, and most importantly, no Fleck. Midfield looked translucent vs Villa, really struggled against Douglas Luiz, McGinn and Jack. Imagine what would happen vs Bruno and Pogba,

Thoughts on these options for next GW.
    WC, BB left.

    Pope (WAT).
TAA (CRY), Maguire (SHU), Saiss (BOU).
KDB (che), Fernandes (SHU), Salah (CRY) (c), Barnes (BHA).
Auba (sou) (vc), Jota (BOU), DCL (nor).
Stek, Holgate (nor), Dendoncker (BOU), Stephens (ARS).
    1 ft, 3.2m ITB.

    1. Save the FT. BB later possibly the week after or else after the WC.

    2. Stek-> Allison + just Bench Boost next GW.
Allison, Holgate, Stephens, Dendoncker for BB.
WC then in 32 or 33 and just focus on 12/13 starters instead of BB.

What scores is everyone on so far?
How many you got left, and what do you think you might finish on/be happy with?

Epic 74 points so far, 16 remaining (if I cant captain as 2).
Considering im only 26 off a ton, I think I can get 130/140, maybe up to 160/180 if im super lucky and Sterling captain pays off.

      81points from 12= 6.75. 15 players to go x 6.75= 101.25.
      101.25 +81= 182.25 points. Easy.

    Any predictions for utd spurs?

Man Utd definitely did go through that dark period with the walloping by Arsenal, followed by the Anfield embarassment & the Burnely debacle - but coming into the game utd now seem to be stringing together a seriously impressive run - particularly defensively:

    - 30.2 XGc for the season (only bettered by Liverpool, City, Chelsea - all on 28-ish)
    - 5 cleansheets in their last 8 games (that sample actually includes playing Liverpool, City & Chelsea! i.e. three of the top 4 attacks in the league... They've also already kept a cleansheet vs Lecicester this season who complete the top four attacks in the league)
    - 4 cleansheets, and only one goal conceded in their last 5 games - that's seriously elite level defensive output & doesn't happen by accident - obviously lots of hard work on the training ground with Mike Phelan finally starting to pay dividends
    - Martial has actually now started 19 of the last 20 league games - that's more than your Mane's, your Salah's, your De Bruyne's, and your Vardy's - never let it be said that the lad doesn't move heaven & earth to get himself onto the pitch - no matter how questionable his body language can be whilst out there
    - Injuries are also easing - who would have thought that Scott McTominay's return would be more important to the team than Paul Pogba, Tommers is fast developing into a super midfield hatchet man, Rashford back, Pogba back, although whether he goes straight into the team is still up in the air

Be interesting to see what Jose has up his sleeve for his old club

How many points do you think a successful BB is worth between now and the end of the season?

I can either do it next GW with this lot or wait until after a WC but the WC would need to fit 15 starters including a 2nd playing keeper which I am not keen on.

I an thinking this coming week would be enough with these options-
Allison (CRY), Holgate (nor), Stephens (ARS), Dendoncker (BOU).
Think these could get 10-15 points and maybe that's enough.
