Scoutcast Episode 334 – FPL Gameweek 31+ Wildcard Options

Whether you have an abundance of Fantasy Premier League chips or none remaining, this latest episode of the Scoutcast has got you covered.

Joe is joined by Lateriser and Andy to look ahead to Gameweek 31+ and beyond, with a close eye on chip strategy.

Lateriser is among the many FPL managers to take advantage of unlimited transfers in Gameweek 30+ and use their Bench Boost chip. With his Wildcard now in play, he reveals the players in his thinking and how best to navigate the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, Joe only has a Bench Boost to fall back on. Our trio looks at the best Gameweeks to consider using not only this chip, but other remaining chips too.

Andy has used all his chips but after tinkering during lockdown with his team, he feels he is in good shape to match his chip-happy rivals.

Among the issues they discuss are what to do with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m), who blanked in his last two run-outs but has two good fixtures ahead and enticing underlying stats too.

Sticking with the Gunners, there are replacement goalkeepers to mull over, after Bernd Leno (£5.0m) suffered a nasty knock against Brighton at the weekend.

The best Liverpool assets, whether Manchester City can be swerved temporarily and the unlikely appeal of Newcastle United are also in the mix.

In this packed 75-minute show, the Scoutcasters also find time to look at the best clean sheet prospects. Lateriser takes his turn to pick a differential and there are Gameweek 31+ squads to reveal.

Who will they captain and which players can help propel them up the rankings?

    KDB or Mane on FH?

surely KDB will play after his rest and Chelsea are hardly solid at the back so I'm a bit wary of him

I'd say KDB. I'm not saying Mane will be rested, but it is more likely than KDB being rested after playing 30 minutes against a beaten Burnley.

I’m very tempted to go without kdb on FH purely to try climb ranking and keep mahrez
Main reason is I probably won’t captain kdb this week anyway

Was hoping to save WC, but not sure I can now. What would you do here?

    A) Save WC for a -8

What's your current situation in MLs/rank? KDB will have very high ownership.

Currently top of ML by less than 20 points and around 70k rank, so could be risky going without KDB

Not a lot of people will captain KDB this week so it's a bit of a differential really.

As big a fan as I am of 2 expensive defenders and filling the final slot from 3 cheap defenders, I’m now thinking of downgrading Doherty (who is almost a must have) to Saiss, and effectively going with a ‘TAA + 4 cheap defenders’ strategy. This frees up enough funds for a great midfield and attack, with options on the bench should I need them. Current thinking:

The ‘TAA plus 4 cheap defenders’ strategy (3-4-3 every week):

    Martinez
TAA, (2 from Saiss, Holgate, Lascelles, Taylor)
    Salah, KDB, Son, Fernandes
    Rashford, Jimenez, DCL

Subs: Martin, 2 cheap defenders, Guendouzi

    1. Francescoli
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

      It’s definitely a valid strategy.

    2. Greek Freak
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

My initial thought was TAA, 3 rotating cheap defenders and one 3.9, so yours doesn't seem extreme at all. It's only recently that I started thinking about how to fit in Doherty. I like your team, though I don't like Rashford as a pick right now.

You can look at it a different way. Think of Doherty as a midfielder who gets 6 points for a goal instead of 5, and 4 points for a clean sheet instead of 1. If he was a midfielder for 6.3m you'd snap him up. He's arguably better value than a lot of the higher priced midfielders (he has more points than Son for example, who costs 3.4m more). I wouldn't sacrifice Doherty even to afford a Son or a Rashford.

      1. yer old da
        • 14 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

Yes it’s a really tough call. When I think of alternatives to Son I can’t have this new boy Bergwijn though, and I think Saiss does cover him to an extent. Agree he’s a near must-have though and still working on how to keep him in.

Stupidly missed the deadline this week, I thought it was 6pm not 5pm.

    Still have WC,FH and BB.

    I was trying to pick a BB team for GW31 but ended up with projected 14 points on bench for -12;

Does Mane > Fernandes, Cantwell > Son and Jota > Jimenez make my team stronger for -4? and 0.1 in bank....or just the last one or something else?

    Pope
    TAA, Saiss, Aurier,

No as I think it’s extremely risky. Plan your team
On the basis of having Salah or Mane at that price point, and it’s MUCH easier to swap them out than perform major surgery to get them back in.

Have a draft with and without... it's a tough one.. Salah is risky. Pool looked pretty poor and have 2 upcoming tricky fixtures.

Most wildcards I've seen have the same 10 players or so with a couple of differences. I like the Richarlison punt but not combined with DCL. No Liverpool attack could hurt but hey, could be a good move.

Vardy our of those. I’d prioritise Rashford and Jimi if you don’t already have them. DCL or Ings as a third striker.

      Vardy out of these options
At least a captain option in some games
