Scoutcast Episode 334 – FPL Gameweek 31+ Wildcard Options

Whether you have an abundance of Fantasy Premier League chips or none remaining, this latest episode of the Scoutcast has got you covered.

Joe is joined by Lateriser and Andy to look ahead to Gameweek 31+ and beyond, with a close eye on chip strategy.

Lateriser is among the many FPL managers to take advantage of unlimited transfers in Gameweek 30+ and use their Bench Boost chip. With his Wildcard now in play, he reveals the players in his thinking and how best to navigate the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, Joe only has a Bench Boost to fall back on. Our trio looks at the best Gameweeks to consider using not only this chip, but other remaining chips too.

Andy has used all his chips but after tinkering during lockdown with his team, he feels he is in good shape to match his chip-happy rivals.

Among the issues they discuss are what to do with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m), who blanked in his last two run-outs but has two good fixtures ahead and enticing underlying stats too.

Sticking with the Gunners, there are replacement goalkeepers to mull over, after Bernd Leno (£5.0m) suffered a nasty knock against Brighton at the weekend.

The best Liverpool assets, whether Manchester City can be swerved temporarily and the unlikely appeal of Newcastle United are also in the mix.

In this packed 75-minute show, the Scoutcasters also find time to look at the best clean sheet prospects. Lateriser takes his turn to pick a differential and there are Gameweek 31+ squads to reveal.

Who will they captain and which players can help propel them up the rankings?

    Pope,
    Taa, boly, saiss, taylor, lascelles
    Salah, mane, kdb
    Jimi, dcl

    Options are:
    1) kdb -> son (and captain him)

    3) roll FT

Three week punt ahead of WC in gw33/ 34.

I've gone Bruno as I think he'll deliver this week. I was suggesting either will be fine. Although I have Salah over Mane.

Pope/Foster rotation for the run in anyone?

No team have more home clean sheets in the league than Burnley or Watford, both on 7 each (hopefully Dyche will tighten Burnley back up after the mauling last night)

    The rotation looks rather appetising:

WAT, SOU, SHU, NOR, NEW, WOL, MCI, BHA

Rather just Patricio, wolves the better team and have something to play for

I actually prefer Doherty, Saiss, Boly etc as Wolves defensive representation - all offer a lot at both ends of the pitch

Only 1 - not prepared to lose TAA, and have AWB to see if Man Utd can continue he strong defensive output

That's a very interesting option. Not too many are looking to rotate GKs for the run-in - 1 set and forget, a £3.9 & spend the cash elsewhere appears to be the popular choice.
Any concerns about Burnley and Watford's respective abilities to keep CS for the run-in?

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 14 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

Yeah definite concerns there - but they’re both literally top of the pile for home clean sheets so you’d have to think that run would yield another 2 or 3 each - which very quickly adds back to 4-6 cleansheet a in 8 or so games which is pretty good output

Unless they’ve both defensively peaked & are on the slide 🙂

That's a fair call! Only adds further conviction to the selection. Becomes a question of whether or not you prefer, say, a solo Pope and fodder reserve GK selection + spare cash over the rotation option. Other than Liverpool, Burnley are away to: Palace, Wolves and Norwich. Not exactly the most free-scoring sides in the league

Not really willing to spend that money on GKs

        • 14 Years

Yeah I’d normally be the exact same - it’s not cheap - but it’s actually cheaper than Ederson & fodder for example

I think I’d be ok with it at this stage with TV approaching 107.0 too, money has to go somewhere & Mane/Salah double up (possibly) looking a bit overkill with pool winning the league

Thoughts on these options for GW 31+.

    Current team-
    Pope (WAT).
TAA (CRY), Maguire (SHU), Saiss (BOU).
KDB (che), Fernandes (SHU), Salah (CRY) (c), Barnes (BHA).
Auba (sou) (vc), Jota (BOU), DCL (nor).
Stek, Holgate (nor), Dendoncker (BOU), Stephens (ARS).
1 ft, 3.2m ITB. WC, BB left.

    1. Save the FT. BB later possibly after the WC (likely GW 33+). Use 2ft's next week before WC.

    2. Stek-> Allison + just use BB in GW 31+. May not get as good a chance.
Allison, Holgate, Stephens, Dendoncker for BB.
This allows me to just focus on 12/13 starters instead of 15 when I WC later.

    3. Make a very short term move with the FT. Maguire -> Ritchie etc..

Do you think Henderson Egan and O'Connel out means they are whipping boys material against man united ?

If im not wrong they were 0-0 before Egan redcard. Plus only Liverpool has conceded fewer goals than Sheffield(28). I think its the Sheffield united system that makes them hard to break down not the players individual quality. For eg Jack Robinson did very well against villa at the expense of O'Connell.

Hence im leaning towards Son(WHU). Westham rank 3rd for most goals conceded(52) behind norwich and villa

    1. @persecuted_by_mods
        3 years, 9 months ago

Henderson is the biggest miss for them. Sheffield are not the same team without these players, that said utd are turgid with 0 patterns of play other than hoping one of their good players does something exciting so wouldn't bank on them

      • Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 14 Years

The last occasion Sheffield played without Henderson they conceded 3 goals at home (only 10 conceded in their other 14 home games)

It was against Man Utd in GW13
They now play Man Utd in GW31

        Very weird 🙂

      I’m happy with my Rashford - Jimenez - DCL front 3 .

But with Aguero out and city averaging 4 goals a game, I really want Jesus . With Chelsea and Liverpool next , I guess the beat course is just to wait and see ?

Why not Ings instead of DCL?

Hadn’t really thought about it. You think Ings is better? May I ask why?

      TAA, Lascelles, Saiis
      KDB, Bruno, Barnes, Grealish
      Auba, Jimi, DCL/Rashford
