Pogba and Alli differential United and Spurs options for Gameweek 31+ onwards

The return of the Premier League, and Fantasy Premier League, saw several intriguing mid-price differentials emerge with double-digit hauls, including Matt Ritchie (£5.3m), Allan Saint-Maximin (£5.4m), Stuart Armstrong (£5.2m) and one of our Gameweek 29 selections, Phil Foden (£5.1m).

Suddenly, there’s no shortage of low-owned picks to consider for those willing to think outside of the box.

This time, we focus on three assets who we like the look of for Gameweek 31+ and beyond, all of whom have an ownership of 5% or less.

Dele Alli

  • FPL ownership: 3.4%
  • Price: £8.3m
  • GW31+ to 35+ fixtures: WHU | shu | EVE | bou | ARS

Having missed Friday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United through suspension, Dele Alli (£8.3m) is back for Tottenham Hotspur’s home clash with London rivals West Ham United.

The feeling amongst supporters is that he will replace Erik Lamela (£5.7m) in Spurs’ starting XI and will line up in his favoured no. 10 role, behind Harry Kane (£10.8m) in a 4-2-3-1.

Alli’s resurgence at the time of Jose Mourinho’s appointment in November saw him go on a run of four goals and three assists in seven league matches. In fact, no teammate has scored more goals (six) or provided more assists (four) for Spurs in the Premier League since, whilst his 12 big chances over that period is more than any other midfielder.

His ability to both create and score is appealing, and the hope is now that he can kick on and finish the season strongly.

Spurs sit nine points behind Chelsea in fourth, and four points behind Manchester United in fifth, which could be enough for Champions League qualification depending on Manchester City’s appeal against their impending ban.

Whilst many are looking to Son Heung-min (£9.7m) as their Spurs differential of choice this week, Alli is flying under the radar, and with nine goals in all competitions already this season, it surely won’t be long before he’s into double figures.

Paul Pogba

  • FPL ownership: 3.7%
  • Price: £8.3m
  • GW31+ to 35+ fixtures: SHU | bha | BOU | avl | SOU

At his best, there is no doubt that Paul Pogba (£8.3m) is one of the most talented midfielders in the world. The question for FPL managers is, how consistently can he show it?

The 27-year-old has endured a stop-start campaign due to a string of injuries but returned on Friday night with an eye-catching cameo. In just over half an hour at Spurs, he completely changed the course of the game and won the equalising penalty after some neat footwork. The stats were telling: 95% pass competition, two out of two take-ons completed, four ball recoveries, one assist and one shot.

Whilst debate rages about his inconsistencies and off-the-ball contributions, what no-one can doubt is his ability. Amongst midfielders who have played over 500 minutes this season, he ranks seventh for chances created per 90, and his passing and dribbling ability will be a key weapon for United when trying to unpick deeper-lying defences.

The Red Devils are now unbeaten in 12 games across all competitions, and with Bruno Fernandes (£8.7m) adding some much-needed creativity and invention further forward, they are starting to look good again.

We suspect we may see Pogba from the start against Sheffield United and, if he can repeat what he showed on Friday night going forward, he can be a key figure as United battle for a place in the top four.

James Justin

  • FPL ownership: 0.4%
  • Price: £4.7m
  • GW31+ to 35+ fixtures: BHA | eve | CRY | ars | bou

James Justin (£4.7m) has had to wait patiently for his opportunity since joining Leicester City for £6m plus add-ons last summer but with first-choice right-back Ricardo Pereira (£6.3m) out until October after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, the 22-year-old is set for a run in the first team.

In Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Watford, Justin provided an exciting glimpse of his potential. Amongst teammates, only James Maddison (£7.5m) had more final third touches, whilst he also created two chances and won seven of his eight tackles. It was a composed performance, in what was just his third Premier League start.

The young English full-back, who can play on either flank, is a forward-thinking, energetic and hard-working player, and whilst he doesn’t offer the same level of attacking threat as Pereira, his performance at the weekend suggests he should do well for bonus.

Leicester are now only three points clear of fourth-place Chelsea and while they still look odds-on to secure Champions League football, Brendan Rodgers has to make sure his side don’t take their foot off the gas during the run-in.

The Foxes are unbeaten in their previous five encounters when facing Brighton and Hove Albion and head into the match as heavy favourites.

Looking at Leicester’s next five opponents, the highest-ranked team is Crystal Palace in ninth, and with Justin now the cheapest route into their backline, he could be a nice differential for those in search of a budget defender.

Anyone else struggling to pick a captain?

    My head says Salah.

    My heart says Fernandes.

Doherty, Jimenez, KDB & Auba all look good picks too.

This will go down to the wire.

I wouldn't pick Salah after the no show. You've got to consider that Salah didn't sit out the last game for sh*ts and giggles. It's because he's not fit yet, which is an extremely improtant factor guiding performance.

I'm going Jimi capt and Bruno vice

    5. YuvalFPL

Palace are good defensively but Salah is Salah. He was on the bench last game so I'd be shocked if he wasn't starting.

I think they'll come out all guns blazing. No pressure.

Sheffield play a strict system under Wilder so it might not be the rout everyone is expecting.

Jimi is one of my favourite ever FPL players but his ceiling isn't high enough to make captaincy appealing...

In conclusion, I have no idea.

Ritchie at a push. Both could be bad picks. Ritchie could work but is usually poor 8/10 games! He did start well though Sunday. I just don’t like the Aurier pick at all.

      1. Jekori
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

If Ritchie is still on penalties he surely is a great pick tho right? Newcastles fixtures are amazing in the near future and i'm sure Saint Maximin or Almiron will get another penalty this season. Add a bit of assist potential from corners and i think the risk of him getting rests is one you can take. Lazaro hasn't exactly shown he's nearly as good so i guess Ritchie 70m Lazaro 20m is way more likely than the other way round.

Lazaro doesn’t play the same side as Ritchie. Why was no one talking about him before his goal and assist then? Because he blanked every other game. He is worth a punt but he comes with a warning from me personally

    5. Rover
      • 7 Years

Same question here. I think Ritchie will get more points per minute than Aurier but the gaps between matches concern me.

Newcastle is still in FA Cup and are essentially safe from relegation so might push for a cup run, so he might get rotated with Lazaro. Mourinho has said he has no real alternatives in Aurier's position, although Foyth or Sanchez might play there against Bournemouth.

Hoping someone adds more insight here.

      Nice looking team!

First thought: why Pope over Foster/Dubravka (for instance)?
Second: I've gone without Liverpool mainly because I hope/think the title will be done soon and we could see more rotation than other teams will, so I like that part.
Third: out of those I'd go B but perhaps swap Pope for somebody else

      good luck!

OR rank 10,5 K, On a free hit and you're thoughts on this last spot are much appreciated

can't pick three out of these 4 forwards

    A) DCL (facing Norwich, but not much rest)
    B) Ings (a lot of rest, good form, but could get fewer minutes and playing a 'top team')
    C) Rashford (Sheffield without henderson, Egan and possibly O connell, and Rashford possibly on pens. )
    D) Jimenez (Playing Bournemouth, on pens (?) but rarely explosive)

It's really nice. But considering the amount of decent attacking options, I wouldn't be playing a 4-3-3 on FH that's for sure.

I like each player this week, so a great FH in my eyes. Yes there are loads of attackers with great fixtures, but you've got 4 extremely exciting wingbacks (that play more like wingers sometimes) and a assist+cs will likely get you bonus already. Keep it as it is i'd say

It's a gamble. It will either take you comfortably into top 100 or comfortable out of top 1000.

Be prepared for it to fail but celebrate when it does work out.

I think the derby proved just how essential he is. He played very poorly for his standard and still got bonus. Only the GK-saves prevented maximum bonus. I don't think those names you mentioned are 'differentials' or will keep up with him anyway.

How is this looking on WC. 0.3 to spend.
    DDG
    TAA-Aurier-Boly-Lascelles
    Salah-KDB-Fernandes-Martial
    Jiminiez-Vardy
    (Holgate-Hayden-Long)
Would it be a big mistake to take a punt on Pogba instead of Fernanades? and is:
Justin + Niketiah better than Holgate + Long?
    Thank you in advance

I've seen a lot of rusty players since re-start. Players like Rashford & Kane are obvious ones, but there are plenty besides who haven't been out with long term injuries.

There's clearly a problem with Salah's fitness or he'd have played.

So, I'm not sure why people think that even if Salah starts, that he's going to be straight on it and banging in goals for fun.

So, I'd pick neither of them.

Go for Jimi, Vardy, Bruno or someone like that who all looked fairly sharp in the first game

I don't see Ings in many teams here. Is there a reason apart from their upcoming tuff schedule? Is he able to deliver in those fixtures and are there better options in that price bracket? Personally, I already have DCL, consindering a Jimenez-Jota double up.

I had a dream last night and Kane scored 5 and assist once after HT vs WHU. Score was 8-1

Sooo, I'm on WC, and got exact cash for this team.

        Pope (Button)
AWB, TAA, Saïss (Kiko Femenía) (Lundstram)
        Martial, KDB, Bruno, Mané, Son
        Tammy, Jimmy (Nketiah)

Anything stupid here? Or obvious upgrades? btw I have lots of value tied to KDB, Mane and Lundstram - Little or no value in the rest.

You can actually sell Lund for someone cheaper and put that money itb. Also Tammy is a no go now. Maybe for few weeks but now hardly. Martial/Bruno can prove good but I think one is enough or have Rash in attack rather then that Martial.

        A/ Salah - Rashford
        B/ KDB - Vardy + 2M
        C/ KDB - Auba

Note: I already have Martial and Bruno.

My starting defence for this GW:

        Dubravka

        AWB, Saiss, Boly, Aurier

Do I try and squeeze Leicester cover in there? Soyuncu or Justin instead of Boly?
