Alli returns for Spurs as Bergwin drops to the bench

Dele Alli (£8.3m) is straight back in the Spurs line-up for Gameweek 31+ as Spurs host West Ham in a London derby.

The mid-priced midfielder missed Double Gameweek 30+ due to a social-media-related suspension but has no issues breaking back into Jose Mourinho’s team at the first time of asking.

Alli takes up the number 10 role, fulfilled by Erik Lamela (£5.7m) against Manchester United, hoping to get back to his pre-lockdown form, which yielded five attacking returns between Gameweeks 24 and 29.

The return of the England international sees Lamela drop to the bench, but Double Gameweek 30+ goalscorer Steven Bergwijn (£7.4m) suffers the same fate.

His wide-attacking midfield berth has been handed to the returning Lucas Moura (£7.1m), who missed the Manchester United game through injury.

While Alli poses some potential as a differential, the main Fantasy focus from this London derby will, of course, be on Son Heung-min (£9.7m).

The South Korean is owned by just 7.9% worldwide, but he still sits in 40% of squads inside the top 10,000 managers.

Furthermore, 6.7% of those at that level have handed him the armband for Gameweek 31+.

As ever, there is little interest in the West Ham assets, their 4-3-3 line-up probably more encouraging for the 6% invested in Serge Aurier (£4.9m) more than anything else.

Still without a recognised striker in the starting XI due to Sébastien Haller‘s (£6.8m) injury, David Moyes has named a front-three consisting of midfielders.

Pablo Fornals (£6.0m), typically deployed in the middle, sits on one side of Michail Antonio (£6.9m) with Jarrod Bowen (£6.4m) on the other.

West Ham United XI: Fabianski; Cresswell, Balbuena, Diop, Fredericks; Rice, Soucek, Noble; Fornals, Antonio, Bowen.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris; B Davies, D Sánchez, Dier, Aurier; Sissoko, Lo Celso; Son, Alli, Moura; Kane.

This. The people in charge of football are ruining the game. All changes they make make the game more boring and less entertaining. Bloody 5 subs and water breaks just the latest, sucking all energy out of the game.

The game being officiated fairly and being boring are two separate issues, or at least they should be, and solutions to be both should be explored.

The fact that the game relied on bad officiating to be entertainment just shows that the sport as it stands is not exciting enough on average.

You quite literally cannot logically say this sort of thing.
The rule is being enforced by video technology. It's not VAR's fault that goal was offside. Or that it was given as offside.
All VAR did was simply record the play and analyse it confirm, yes, actually that was an offside goal.
It's like getting upset about goal-line technology. (Although I am aware of the irony in that comment haha).
VAR didn't make the rule, it just enforces it. I can't understand your argument for offsides.

VAR in this case isn't subjective - it's ENTIRELY objective. If you genuinely think that is an issue then you're saying you don't want offsides in the game. simple as that.

Sounds to me more like you're annoyed because of some FPL points have gone missing. You'll get over it I'm sure.

PS - The correct decision was given.

Interesting that so many people here think the solution to football being boring (which it is, far more than it needs to be) is to allow more goals that are illegal.

There are plenty of better, and fairer, things they could do to make the game a better product but there's no will to do it. They could learn something from other sports.

less players crowding the ball, perhaps reducing sides to 10 v 10, or having sin-bin, or limit the number of players in areas of the pitch.
Make the goals bigger, have a shot clock, don't allow going back into your own half once you cross halfway and enforce a time limit with which you must cross half way.

Basketball alone has done a lot of these types of things and is so much better for it.

I've heard of a few of these as an alternative to penalties. I quite like the idea of taking a player off from each side until a goal is scored, but then, you'll find lots of fans in favour of penalty shoot outs.

I'm not in favour of many of the others. I appreciate a well setup defensive team and the tactics, concentration and determination that go into making that work.

I think most people are annoyed upset when a goal is ruled out harshly. The benefit of any doubt should go to the attacking team where possible.

I mean it comes down to what do you want to see in a game of football, is it a an organized defense keeping a clean sheet or a 4-3 game where both teams were attacking as if they needed to win?

I, and I think most people, want more attacking and more goals. Another thing that could do a long way to that would be to remove the incentive to draw. Maybe only a point for the away team if it's a draw? or increase the benefit of goals scored like rugby does with points. Imagine the league with an extra point per 2 goals scored in a match?

Not all teams are on a level playing field though. It'll be easier for teams with more financial backing to buy success - less upsets with results, and well more predictability means more boring.

It probably doesn't help that I don't find basketball exciting. But I am a massive fan of american football. I can appreciate grinding out a 7-3 win on the ground just as much as a 70 point aerial slugfest.

The effectiveness of team tactics shouldn't be undermined to benefit the individual.

                > Not all teams are on a level playing field though. It'll be easier for teams with more financial backing to buy success

This is a whole other issue, which US sports address via salary caps and awarding higher draft picks to weaker teams. Regardless of rule changes this is already and will continue to be an issue in football too.

                > The effectiveness of team tactics shouldn't be undermined to benefit the individual.

I hear you, and there is a risk of that alright. I think overall though we need to decide what types of teams and players we enjoy watching the most and then tweak the rules to make that type of play more successful.

Avoiding games ending in a draw is an interesting idea. Maybe bonus points for scoring 3 goals in a game too.

Son didnt gain any advantage from those 2 cm offside. The offside rule is there to stop people from goal hanging, not to disallow goals that would have stood anyway.

I guess the biggest thing they should tackle still is time played. Go to real-time played, easy to do with recent technolgy. Get's rid of useless time-wasting around substitutes/set pieces and faking injuries and stuff like that. It's hard to watch how conservative they are in football

I'm so angry an offside 'goal' was ruled offside

True. It's annoying but offside is offside

Any chance someone could rate my wc team

      De gea, (Martinez)
      Aurier, Taa, Doherty, (Taylor, Lascelles)
      Son, mahrez, martial, kdb, Bruno
      Jesus, Jimi , (nketiah)

      Thanks

I know it’s missing Liverpool assets but just feel there will be rotation when it’s wrapped up

Actually it isn't VAR that annoys me most, it is lame arse halftime comments.

most of them- maybe more with all the extra pens

Shearer smashed an ungodly amount of goals home from range if memory serves correctly

VAR just highlights how many dodgy goals were being given prior to it being introduced.
