Alli returns for Spurs as Bergwin drops to the bench

Dele Alli (£8.3m) is straight back in the Spurs line-up for Gameweek 31+ as Spurs host West Ham in a London derby.

The mid-priced midfielder missed Double Gameweek 30+ due to a social-media-related suspension but has no issues breaking back into Jose Mourinho’s team at the first time of asking.

Alli takes up the number 10 role, fulfilled by Erik Lamela (£5.7m) against Manchester United, hoping to get back to his pre-lockdown form, which yielded five attacking returns between Gameweeks 24 and 29.

The return of the England international sees Lamela drop to the bench, but Double Gameweek 30+ goalscorer Steven Bergwijn (£7.4m) suffers the same fate.

His wide-attacking midfield berth has been handed to the returning Lucas Moura (£7.1m), who missed the Manchester United game through injury.

While Alli poses some potential as a differential, the main Fantasy focus from this London derby will, of course, be on Son Heung-min (£9.7m).

The South Korean is owned by just 7.9% worldwide, but he still sits in 40% of squads inside the top 10,000 managers.

Furthermore, 6.7% of those at that level have handed him the armband for Gameweek 31+.

As ever, there is little interest in the West Ham assets, their 4-3-3 line-up probably more encouraging for the 6% invested in Serge Aurier (£4.9m) more than anything else.

Still without a recognised striker in the starting XI due to Sébastien Haller‘s (£6.8m) injury, David Moyes has named a front-three consisting of midfielders.

Pablo Fornals (£6.0m), typically deployed in the middle, sits on one side of Michail Antonio (£6.9m) with Jarrod Bowen (£6.4m) on the other.

West Ham United XI: Fabianski; Cresswell, Balbuena, Diop, Fredericks; Rice, Soucek, Noble; Fornals, Antonio, Bowen.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris; B Davies, D Sánchez, Dier, Aurier; Sissoko, Lo Celso; Son, Alli, Moura; Kane.

What did you expect under Mourinho.

This isn't the Mourinho of Duff and Robben.

This is the Mourinho of dirty players Pepe and Ramos playing in defence.

Worst thing about the fake crowd is when you are not paying 100% attention and the sudden roar makes you look up to see the ball going out for a throw on the halfway line 🙄

My idea when I first saw VAR used was to to the frame at which it seems the ball has "been struck", according to whatever definitions you use, and then, if the player in question is moving towards the goal, rewind by one frame to give him the benefit of the doubt, as this frame cannot pinpoint the exact moment that the ball was struck, and where the player in question was at that time.

      to go to the frame*

What if the player is returning from an offside position? Rewinding a frame wouldn't help the attacker.

Then don't rewind. Therefore the advantage/benefit of the doubt is always given to the attacker, if only by 1mm (or when travelling at speed, a lot more).

So pick an arbitary frame and the frame before the arbitary frame.

More helpfully, do you realise how many frames there are a second?

      1. Deulofail
        • 8 Years

Yes, the frame before the "arbitrary" frame.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. This is simply an idea to make a more consistent result of the current inaccurate system.

Currently there are a mix of false positives and false negatives. What I would do is to shift the balance to get only false negatives and no false positives (ie no offsides given that shouldn't be based on frame rate issues, and therefore fewer offsides in total).

I'm not sure how big the effect would be, but in principle, it makes sense to me.

There are not enough frames per second compared to top sprint speed (meters per second). The gap between frames is huge and many VAR decisions are arbitrary since the closest 2 frames are too far apart to replay what the timing really was.

Yes, this is what I'm trying to combat with very little cost

In other words, you are saying that it should be fine for everyone to be 1-40cm offside when sprinting based on camera timing luck. Based on 35km/s = 10m/s sprint speed, 25 frames per second.

Personally, I'd like to see 2x high fps offside cameras per stadium.

I am not saying that. I'm saying, with it as it is, this seemed to me to have been an obvious fix to a problem they were not ready to solve in full.

Perhaps VAR shouldn't have even been introduced until the problem can be solved, but that's another question.

In fact, 2x higher speed would not solve the problem, it would only reduce the false positives. I feel errors should be erradicated.

And since we couldn't do that yet, then formalising a way to give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker, without increasing subjectivity, would be beneficial to the gave and our perception of its excitement and justness.

Really disappointed by Alli going off on 59 minutes. Having watched the game he looked like spurs most likely player. To many options at Spurs Now for him to be a good option?
Basically down to double wolves defence to help me out this week as everyone else is so highly owned.

People seem to forget that before the break, Alli was playing as striker because Kane was injured. He was also on pens. With Kane back, Alli is no longer playing striker nor is he on pens. That reduces his FPL appeal significantly
