Fernandes starts at Brighton despite 120-minute FA Cup outing

Bruno Fernandes (£8.7m) has surprised Fantasy managers by starting for Manchester United’s trip to Brighton.

The Portuguese international played a full 120 minutes in an FA Cup win at Norwich on Saturday, suggesting that he might miss out on Gameweek 32+.

Despite having Andreas Pereira (£4.8m) and Juan Mata (£6.1m) on the bench, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Fernandes for a fourth start in all competitions since the Premier League resumed.

In light of extra-time in the FA Cup, it will be interesting to see how long the midfielder is able to last at the Amex Stadium though.

Fernandes will also be under the microscope of eagle-eyed Fantasy managers still curious about how he will cope with Paul Pogba (£8.3m) in the side.

The Frenchman made his first league start since Gameweek 7 when Sheffield United were dispatched 3-0 at Old Trafford, arguably overshadowing Ferandnes in the process.

Therefore, it will be important analyse whether or not the same will be true on the road, especially considering this is the same XI that Solskjaer named against the Blades.

That means another Premier League start for Mason Greenwood (£4.3m) on the flanks of attacking midfield, Marcus Rashford (£9.1m) on the opposite flank and Anthony Martial (£8.2m) in the centre-forward position.

The out-of-position FPL midfielder scored 10 points the last time he faced Brighton and launched himself onto the Fantasy radar with a hat-trick in Gameweek 31+.

Manchester United may not have it too easy at Brighton though. Notorious tinkerman Graham Potter has gone for an ultra-conservative formation, featuring a back-five and a trio of midfielders screening the defence.

Dan Burn (£4.5m) tucks in alongside Lewis Dunk (£4.7m) and Shane Duffy (£4.8m) at centre-back while Tariq Lamptey (£4.0m), who impressed against Leicester, could be up against Rashford.

Dale Stephens (£4.4m), Yves Bissouma (£5.0m) and Davy Pröpper (£4.8m) have been given the task of protecting the back-five, with creative players such as Aaron Mooy (£4.8m), Leandro Trossard (£5.8m) and Pascal Groß (£6.2m) on the bench.

Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m) looks to be in a rather disconnected number 10 role just behind Aaron Connolly (£4.2m) in the lone-striker role, while Neal Maupay (£5.7m) finds himself among the substitutes.

Brighton and Hove XI (5-3-1-1): Ryan; Montoya, Burn, Duffy, Dunk, Lamptey; Bissouma, D Stephens, Pröpper; Mac Allister; Connolly.

Manchester United XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Shaw, Maguire, Lindelöf, Wan-Bissaka; Matic, Pogba; Rashford, B Fernandes, Greenwood; Martial.

Sign Sancho and Utd would be looking good. Although a Matic replacement would make it even better:

      De Gea
      AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
      Fernandes Matic Pogba
      Sancho Martial Rashford

Sancho would be a game changer for them

Almost every player who's come into Man United in the past 5 years has been expected to be a game changer. Sancho will be just one more of those.

Have to disagree - that kid is different gravy, or at least his output is

17 goals & 17 assists in the Bundesliga from 30 games this season & he doesn’t turn 20 until next March

To put that into context - when Sane was his age in the Bundesliga he was getting 8 goals & 6 assists from 33 games

It’s the main reason why I can’t see Utd managing to sign him - much as it pains to say it, he looks like an absolute elite level, top of the range, Rolls-Royce player, will be very difficult to make that transfer happen

Sancho would look good in that No.7 shirt alright.

Marco Verratti would be my dream Matic replacement.

Yeah let’s not start putting Veratti & Keane in the same sentence

When Roy Keane wasn’t leading his team to 7 Premier League titles, he would go out and dominate prime Zidane & Davids in their own back yard, at a time when no English club had ever won on Italian soil, let alone over turned an aggregate deficit in a champions league semi final, all the while knowing he was missing the final either way

Veratti meanwhile is a bit part midfielder in the biggest and most expensively assembled team of European bottlers the World has ever seen

It does breed a certain mindset.

Evra describes an encounter he had with Scholes in the medical room shortly after joining. After getting treatment, Scholes limped out of the room and returned to training. Evra was amazed that he was still training and felt guilty he was staying with only a minor knock when Scholes was pushing through a more serious one. Suddenly his mindset shifted. He went outside and joined Scholes with training and started the next game and was fine afterwards.

Obviously you should listen to the medical team, but there is mental merit at least to pushing your body to the extremes. Maybe even physical ones too. This is from a place of ignorance though, I'm obviously not a sports scientist.

Doing so for this mini season will make it easier.

I think if a player is exhausted no point in playing him.

But if someone is playing out of passion, I don't think there is any better motivation for that.

I mean you know Paul/Vida/Giggs/Neville/Keano would play their hearts out. And still get out of games without an injury.

But when you see Martial/lingard/Pogba/Shaw they're just .... Soft 😀

Can't expect them to go out of the way to help teams. Rashford is kind of a guy though. Maybe that lead to his stress related injury earlier this set

The vast majority of players will tell you they never really have the luxury of a 100% clean bill of health - particularly once they get into their later years

Virtually all of them play with consistent knocks, niggles, frays, tears, sprains, strains - some players are luckier/of stronger constitution than others with their ability to play through those types of setbacks though

And obviously catastrophic injuries are a different kettle of fish - Andre Gomes was NOT going to walk off the absolutely catastrophic effects of Aurier’s tackle on every ligament , bone & sinew in his ankle for example

But he did it in November-ish was back sooner than Pogba was for his own ankle ligament knack...

    OR 21456 - Squad value 106.4 - In the bank 0.9 - 1 FT - Only BB left

    Prices is purchase price.

    Martínez (4.2)

    TAA (7.4) - Saíss (4.4) - Lacelles (4.2)

    Salah (12.2) - Mané (11.6) De Bruyne (9.8) - Martial (7.6)

    Rashford (9.0) - Jiménez (7.1) - DCL (6.4)

    Bench: McCarthy (4.3) - Taylor (4.3) - Cantwell (4.6) - Williams (4.0)

With one FT and 0.9 in the bank I'm looking to improve my bench so that I'm ready to BB. I'm considering switching Cantwell for Foden (5.2) and Williams for Holgate (4.3). I have exact money for it. Anything else I could do to improve my soon to be BB-team?

Of course it's a risk, but there is not so many other options. Keep Cantwell or that Southampton guy. Foden is more explosive and Dilva will leave after this season. Pep should play him more so he is ready for next season.

Purchase prices is flawed in my opinion. Sometimes that 0.1 doesn't add upp when people is considering other opions and they should know purchase prices to calulate if that's a decent switch around.

Some kid in midfield for Villa

Davis or something, can’t remember his name

He’s absolutely smashing up the members area & only costs about 2.0

And they will do until black lives matter.

But it is funny to see how triggered you are by it.

Does not seem triggered to me. Innocuous comment with a triggered reply is how I am reading it.
