Eliteserien GW7 – O Captain! my Captain!

“O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,

The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,

The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,

While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;

How many times have you felt like this? Another week flies by, another Captain delivers you that sought-after prize of double points and they were already juicy enough to begin with. Suddenly an ‘alright’ gameweek turns into great one; red arrows shaking off their hue to reveal beautiful green undertones that thrust you up the rankings. Your Captain has steered the ship, yet again away from disaster, away from the rocks that threaten shipwrecking and into safe, open waters. There’s even a crowd of well-wishers gathering along the shoreline to cheer you on, recognising your valiant efforts and success.

But it’s not like that for everyone. Some of us have shipwrecked so many times we’re at the point of almost giving up and making do with a raft made out of flotsam and driftwood…

But O heart! heart! heart!

O the bleeding drops of red,

Where on the deck my Captain lies,

           Fallen cold and dead.”

Ah yes, that’s more like it. Walt Whitman’s poignant allegory about the death of Abraham Lincoln at the end of the American Civil War is of course beyond reproach, but it seems awfully relevant within the world of Fantasy Football.

All of my Captains to this point have brought me nothing but frustration. Alas, their bodies are too big to simply sweep under the carpet, or hide in the airing cupboard – they must be disposed of properly. And the only way I can do that is to understand why I chose them in the first place, then see what other options I had and how they compared. That’s exactly what I’ve done, and it’s exactly the point of this article.

I will, week by week, discuss my Captaincy picks, how they went wrong, what else I could’ve (should’ve done) and compare those outcomes. The aim of this analysis is not only to see how my points totals have been affected (how many points I’ve lost) it’s also to look at the logic behind those choices. I want to know if I made fundamentally horrendous choices or whether it’s nothing more than ‘Hindsight 101’ and it’s only become obvious now after the fact. (Home teams will be capitalised).

GAMEWEEK 1 CAPTAIN:

Leke James (12.0m) [molde fk vs AALESUNDS FK]

Before the season started I had it in my head that Torgeir Borven (11.3m) would continue his brilliant form into 2020. Then I heard rumours of his move to Rosenborg and the prospect of him taking the league by storm, or even being played by Odd seemed to diminish along with the thought of choosing him in my team. First mistake.

The three best forwards in the league last season – by quite some distance – were James, Borven and Ohikhuaeme Omoijuanfo (10.9m). Naturally as Borven was out of the picture it boiled down to who do I pick between James and Ohi. I sided with James as he was favourite to start and thus he was shifted into my team and duly captained.

Molde were huge favourites to win and likely to score multiple goals. James seemed like a perfectly sound choice for Gameweek 1 captaincy. He repaid with me a goal but also a red card after being booked twice. The fact that Borven scored a 93rd minute penalty for Odd in their game was the proverbial salt in the wound.

• GW1 Captain Score: 3pts

• Best GW1 Captain Score: 9pts (Niklas Sandberg, 7.6m)

• Points Lost: 6pts

Although I had better options in my team, I cannot fault the logic in choosing one of the most talented forwards in the league against a newly promoted side. This one goes down to horrible misfortune and shouldn’t be rued. To dwell or not to dwell? Decidedly not. (Sound Logic, Poor Points)

GAMEWEEK 2 CAPTAIN:

• Lars Jorgen Salvesen (8.5m) [STROMSGODSET TOPPFOTBAL vs odd bk]

Despite Bodo/Glimt finishing second to Molde last season, I avoided them completely as they suffered quite a few losses of their best players to bigger teams eager to snap up potential bargains. This is also a club that has only been in the top flight of Norwegian football five out of the last ten seasons, and before last season their highest finish was 9th. It was surely a fluke and it won’t happen again – look elsewhere. Mistake number 2.

I could have jumped from James to Borven and it would’ve have been perfectly fine to do so as he scored against Sandefjord. I chose not to as Odd lost that game – at home – and faced a much stronger side in Stromsgodset. I saw a home win and many goals, thus Salvesen not only walked into my team, but he was also given the ‘Kapteinens armbånd’ without much deliberation whatsoever. (Translation courtesy of Google.com).

• GW2 Captain Score: 1pt

• Best GW2 Captain Score: 7pts (Niklas Sandberg)

• Points Lost: 6pts

Salvesen got a beastly 10pts against IK Start the week before, only to return almost empty-handed the following game. I had Sandberg as my vice-captain on the basis that pretty much every other player in my team had a tough game. I wasn’t expecting points to flow and saw him as a good back up as he was on penalty duty, scored the previous week and I viewed Bodo/Glimt as a team most sides would feel they could score one or two against.

You can see for yourself just how well that turned out. I’m not too sure I can say this was the best decision. I was perhaps too influenced by Salvesen’s 10pts haul against Start in making the move to bring him in and captain him. There were slim-pickings elsewhere and even though Sandberg scored well, I would’ve captained whoever I brought in as my forward over him. I remain ambivalent about this one. (Iffy Logic, Poor Points)

GAMEWEEK 3 CAPTAIN:

• Ohikhuaeme Omoijuanfo [IK START vs molde fk]

I was one of the few to Wildcard at this point, influenced mainly by the concern of heading into Gameweek 3 with potentially as few as 9 starting players and an ineffective bench. The decision to overhaul completely is up for debate, but overall I was happy to commit to using such a chip so early on as it would be the springboard from which I would start my season.

With 81pts won in ‘Runde 3’ (RD Rank 2,973) you’d think I’d be happy. Ohi was always seen as the one-week salve in this situation, taking full advantage of yet again another easy fixture in which one of the best players in the league could wreak havoc. Sigh. Molde won the game 3-2 with a rather fortuitous last-minute goal by rampaging centre-back Stian Gregersen (5.2m). The two other goals were also scored by defenders. Bigger sigh. If I was told by a time-traveller that Molde would score 3 goals in that game, it would’ve resulted in the calmest, most assured captaincy pick in the history of my ESN playing career. Ohi was always destined to be chosen.

• GW3 Captain Score: 2pt

• Best GW3 Captain Score: 14pts (Andreas Hanche-Olsen, 5.7m)

• Points Lost: 12pts

Sandberg and Daouda Bamba (9.2m) also scored well with 13pts and to be honest all three were good alternatives. Ironically my vice-captain was Gilbert Koomson (7.1m) who failed to join the party, gaining a poultry 2pts.

Another 12pts lost due to my Captain not turning up. I absolutely refuse to be frustrated with this choice. It was not a bad captaincy pick at all. In fact, I don’t see why I’d choose any of those other players over Ohi in that situation again. I’d do the exact same thing. It was not meant to be, that’s all. Unluckeeeee. (Perfectly Sound Logic, Poor Points)

GAMEWEEK 4 CAPTAIN:

• Lars Jorgen Salvesen [STROMSGODSET TOPPFOTBALL vs aalesunds fk]

Not much to be said about this one. I chose to ignore Borven yet again (also ignoring hat-trick against Valerenga) and for some reason found way back to Salvesen. There seems to be a pattern here – I am drawn more to fixture than form when it comes to not only transfers, but captaincy picks. This methodology ultimately seems to have been my downfall. Gameweek 4 was to be no different.

Salevesen had just two shots in the entire game and they were both blocked. He did create on big chance and played a key pass, but other than that he was largely anonymous. Borven on the other hand ran riot again, racking up 15pts against a shell-shocked IK Start.

The 6ft 1” Norwegian had hoodwinked me once more, pulling me away from the advances of the more diminutive figure of the Trondheim-bound Odd forward, only to lead to me into more ruination. Four gameweeks in and still without success. Where was MY Captain?

• GW4 Captain Score: 2pt

• Best GW4 Captain Score: 7pts (Jens Petter Hauge, 7.9m/Gilbert Koomson)

• Points Lost: 5pts

Koomson was never going to be trusted to outscore Salvesen as he had a much lower ceiling relative to their fixtures. Hauge was perhaps on paper a better alternative but in the end I thought Stromsgodset would run riot, leading to many, many points for their leading man. Once more, twas not to be and I was left licking the wounds of another self-inflicted injury.

Aware of Bodo/Glimt’s form, I did have both Hauge and Kasper Junker (8.8m) in my team but even so I refused to accept Salvesen was not going to outscore any of their assets. This defiance led to a meagre 2pts. On the bright side, Salvesen had DOUBLED his last score so there was that. I should’ve brought Borven in (that’s not Hindsight, I was planning to do it either that week or GW5) but I didn’t. Once again fixture difficulty swayed me into a poor decision. (So-so Logic, Poor Points).

GAMEWEEK 5 CAPTAIN:

Torgeir Borven (11.3m) [ROSENBORG BK vs valerenga fotball]

Finally, after weeks of waiting, I’d got my man. In his last two games he’d scored a ridiculous five goals and although Odd were up against Bodo/Glimt, I was confident of goals. Wanting to beat his inevitable price rise was also on my mind so as soon as ‘Gameweek 4’ concluded, I got rid of ‘Deadwood Salevesen’ and welcomed Herr Borven into my team. He was to be my Captain no matter what.

You cannot make it up. Borven’s move to Rosenborg was set to go through on 1st August, meaning he would remain an Odd player until then, even if it would mean Rosenborg would have to wait. Apparently they were unhappy to do this. His move to Trondheim was finalised less than 24 hours after he found himself in my team. Cue even bigger sigh.

His first game for Rosenborg would come too soon and he wasn’t even given half an hour to get a debut goal. I simply could not believe my luck. This was the guy I’d been monitoring for the last couple of gameweeks (as well as during pre-season) and when I had finally convinced myself I should take the leap, he finds himself sitting on the bench of Norway’s biggest club, my Fantasy armband tucked away in his pocket.

• GW5 Captain Score: 1pt

• Best GW5 Captain Score: 10pts (Gilbert Koomson/Kasper Junker/Andreas Hopmark 4.6m)

• Points Lost: 9pts

Obviously I was never going to captain Hopmark but Junker and Koomson were perfectly viable alternatives. My actual vice was Sandberg (vs ik start) which in itself, was not a bad choice (fixture-wise) but would have only yielded two more points.

It seems that choosing the right Captain is something I struggle with far more than is necessary. The right man eludes me still. I am the Cinderella of Fantasy Football, with no ‘glass armband’ in sight.

I should never have captained Borven as he had just moved to Rosenborg a day or two before. He wasn’t guaranteed a start (though I thought it likely) and Rosenborg are a team far from their best, playing insipid, uncreative football (more so at the time than now) making Borven a far worse choice than multiple other options. (Poor Logic, Poor Choice).

GAMEWEEK 6 CAPTAIN:

Veton Berisha (8.9m) [VIKING FK vs ik start]

Out with the old (and disgruntled) Bamba, and in with the new (and very much in-form) Veton Berisha. IK Start had faced 69 shots and conceded 13 goals prior to the visit of under-performing Viking. Going into this game Berisha had scored 2 goals and got 2 assists in his previous three games. Not ground-breaking form, more a solid foundation to build upon especially with such a favourable fixture.

Now. I’m sure you’re beginning to see the picture by now. Yeah, that whole ‘form plus fixture’ spiel I keep banging on about? Failed me again, didn’t it? I’m not the biggest Beatles fan in the world, so maybe it’s because whenever I think of Bodo/Glimt I imagine a big yellow submarine and on some psychological level I’m put off, but that’s clearly something I need to deal with.

I even mentioned in comments prior to the games that I thought Bodo/Glimt will deal with Brann more than comfortably but I didn’t envisage 5 goals and certainly didn’t think Junker would get ANOTHER hat-trick. I had confidence in my new signing to continue his good form against one of the weakest teams in the league.

• GW6 Captain Score: 2pt

• Best GW5 Captain Score: 17pts (Kasper Junker)

• Points Lost: 15pts

Another swing, another miss. Like, I didn’t just miss the ball, I threw the bat into a nearby lake then punched a swan for good luck. At this point I’m not just sighing, I’m staring out the window trying to figure out why the Fantasy Football gods are so upset with me to no avail.

This is one of my least questionable picks. I refuse to accept this was a bad pick. Because it wasn’t. Viking may be underperforming, and Bodo/Glimt might be cruising, but Berisha is a very good player, capable of bringing home plenty of bacon, and IK Start might as well be a pig lying on it’s side telling everyone in the nearby vicinity to come grab a slice or two.

Berisha blanked for the first time in three games against one of the worst teams in the league. This was bad timing more than anything. Another 15pts lost all the same. (Sound Logic, Poor Points).

CONCLUSION

After much beard twirling and enough sighing to convince anyone who wasn’t too sure that I am indeed British, I have arrived at my conclusion. At least three of my captain picks were based on sound logic, two could be debated either way and one was certainly a poor choice. With 50% of my choices being perfectly reasonable, I am understandably frustrated by not being rewarded with any points but find it hard to be annoyed as the logic was sound.

The two debatable choices could be easily argued either way, so while they weren’t the best choices I could’ve made, they certainly weren’t awful. There was only one captaincy pick I definitely shouldn’t have done – it still stings now – yet it only resulted in a loss of 8pts.

The point of this article is to empathise with all of you who have suffered from poor captaincy picks. It’s also to show exactly how damaging blanking Captains can be to your team. If I had made the correct decision each and every week for the last six gameweeks, I would have amassed another 53pts. That equates to 10,711 places. That is how powerful the captain chip is. It will either give you or take from you, thousands and thousands of places in the ranking system.

My rank should be higher than it is. But ultimately it is down to me and me alone to choose whose points I wish to double on a weekly basis. Good logic (based on whatever variable you wish to look at) is always a good reason to do anything. Fantasy Football is a multi-faceted game which means if you only look at one variable – you are already in trouble. This is exactly what has happened to, pretty much from before the season started.

If I had trusted my instincts and gone with Borven from the start, we’d be looking at a very different picture, the same way in which if I didn’t convince myself Bodo/Glimt were a bunch of charlatans I’d have had a much stronger squad from Day 1.

Captains are no reason to stop playing this game. You cannot and will not get it right all the time. Those who do seem to choose better than most are either luckier than you, or I’m sorry to say it, a bit smarter. I certainly feel as though I have been somewhat put in my place and humbled for the last few weeks. I am not the biggest fan of the captaincy option as it adds another element of luck-based scoring to the game, yet I can see the appeal. It’s a point of weekly discussion. It makes the games more interesting and it also gives us a reason to vent if we fail.

Those in the same boat as me (I’m hoping I’m not alone here – I’m not the best rower) do not panic or stress or get annoyed or stop playing the game. If like me you can surmise you were right to captain who you did at least 50% of the time – you have no reason to be annoyed if you missed points. The decision can be the right one even if it yields no gains. That’s the definition of unlucky. That’s all it is.

The law of averages dictates you will get it right at some point so keep that in mind and keep approaching each gameweek with sound logic but perhaps open your mind to other variables you have perhaps been blind to so far.

Hey hey hey I just bought in Zach. And I don’t consider myself a casual but yeah maybe...

Good 30 minutes from Helland that, shame he can't stay fit. Nobody absolutely stand-out for me, would guess BAPS will be Helland, Zacha & an RBK CB.

Even without bonus I've made a whole point on my Sandberg to Zachariassen move for a hit. Happy days. Onwards and upwards with that.

Helland with a beastly cameo. But as Eytexi says, he can't stay fit enough to do it week in, week out.

Borven scoring is a huge plus.

Maybe there's life in this old Rosenborg team yet. Won last two games 3-0. Hmm.

Got lucky tbf. 2 goals from set pieces. Formation change helped a lot. And also I feel like SIF got pretty tired in the end...

But still, 2 big wins in a row should boost their confidence.

You could make a case of any move being lucky. A game of football is played over 90 minutes. If a team gets tired that's on them.

I bought Zachariassen in mainly because of Rosenborg's good run of fixtures. I don't expect weekly returns, but think he's good money spent on opportunities.

Rosenborg do tend to shoot themselves in the foot. Maybe this is a sign of them evolving away from that. Perhaps didn't deserve to win 3 nil, but they did. Football is a funny sport in that sense. One team can be on paper objective better/more successful in a game but if they don't score then boop, means nothing.

And yeah you're right - 2 wins, 6 goals and 2 clean sheets. Will do wonders for their confidence.

Big man Dino is going to be a shrinking violet though you can just tell.

I meant Rosenborg were lucky, your move was completely fine and ”calculated”. Did almost the same move myself.

Oh ok haha. Yeah I'd say Rosenborg were probably fortunate but it'll give them so much confidence to play not so well but win.

I'm really happy with Zachs return. Feels like a captaincy coming in!

In FPL I captained Salah for a Pope masterclass. Obviously that happened. And I benched Egan and McBurnie (because they played Chelsea) and I lost 16 points. Hmm. I give up with FPL to be honest - it's getting ridiculous now.

So yes, I needed that return haha.

Rosenborg look far from themselves yet, to decent results aside. Other than Børven, I won't get any Rosenborg players yet.

Yeah they do. But playing 'not too well' and winning is what the better teams do. The poor teams play poorly and lose. Hopefully this is a sign they're not completely gone just yet.

They're probably not completely gone, but I want to see more before considering a RBK double-up. There's really no players I want to bring in either; Helland is always an injury risk, Zach is new to the team and Ideally I'd want to see more of him – which leaves you with picking Reginiussen or another def, IMO. Reginiussen is 34 now, and I don't think he'll play all the games. The majority yes, but you have to expect he misses some games.

I have three RBK and will not be selling soon. They are not playing well atm but I expect them to do well enough in this unpredictable league to hold their own. Borven is the only expensive one of the three but he will get picked as captain so not a problem with that.

They *should* be able to hold their own given the squad they have, but personally, I feel they're too risky to consider – yet.

I went with Zinck and Junker two captains.

      A lot of game left!

Really don't think 3pts for an assist is enough. Seems very underwhelming to me.

Still waiting on Junker to get some points. Was always tempted to go Zinckernagel Hauge this week but Junker is yet to blank!

Hopefully because I've gone 2 captains with him that doesn't mean it's first time to blank this season

Lauritsen scoring is very helpful. Looking at him to fill the role of my budget forward so nice to see him amongst the returns that's for sure.

Better than throwing 9m at Futon Berisha -_-

Assist given to Zin(k)ernagel so far. Can't see him keeping it. The cross is way ahead of Fet, and it looks like like Junker slices the ball before the defender knocks it out to Fet. Should be no assist.

He came off his line to stop a through ball. On the first go he decides to block the ball with his hip as he realised last second that he can't handle it. The rebounds get chipped above him and he decides to fist the it while clearly outside the box.

Just zero awareness from the bloke.

Goalkeepers are a nightmare and I never seem to get it right. If I go for two playing GKs I always end up benching the wrong one. If I go for just the one playing GK then he always ends up doing something completely daft and get injured/sent off/suspended

Better start scouting my next GK transfer failure

Genuinely think Linde is the best option.

Just permanently play him. And have a cheap 'never getting games' back up.

Or have someone like Myhra or Mjondalen keeper and know 30/35% of the time you'll get some points. And maybe every now and then you might get a haul.

            Linde looks quality though.

Linde is good but I just don't like splashing out 6m on goalies especially when that team has cheaper defenders available. Most Molde defenders have decent goal threat so ideally I want one of those for the DGW.

Think I may get Deumeland. Save points and DGW. Won't be getting any CS but I haven't been getting any of those from any of my other defensive players.

FIVE goals scored by Bodo again. Junker not involved.

If I was told they'd score that many I'd be slapping the captaincy on him!

Was a three way tie between Zinckernagel/Hauge and Junker for 2 captains. How unlucky is that though?

Apologies guys - Junkers first blank looks to be because I captained him. Sorry!

The only reason I didn't captain Junker is simply because Zinckernagel always plays 80+ minutes while Junker gets subbed off for Boniface almost every game. Fortunately I captained Junker last week.

Glimt is looking more and more like the City of the league. They always score big. The goals are typically shared. The substitutions can heavily affect who the bigger scorer is. The captaincy is bingo. Hopefully will players like Eikrem, Børven and Pellegrino offer enough captaincy variety that the captaincy isn't just about lucking out on the right Glimt player.

        Not sure I entirely agree.

I 100% believe that Hauge, Zinckernagel and Junker will always be the best captaincy picks of any round.

Zinckernagel and Junker can haul at any given moment and Hauge is steadily getting 5/6/7/8/9 points pretty much every week.

I wouldn't even bother looking elsewhere for a captain because they score so many goals and they're usually shared between those three. That's a 33% chance to get it right - I'd be sticking with that myself.

Junker has been the most prolific, consistent player in the league this season. Along with Zinckernagel.

I'm not too unhappy because at least I get Zinckernagel's points. Logically it was between Junker and Hauge as my 2nd captain. One of those things, just entirely frustrating when it goes wrong hah.

Reason I don't see anyone else being a captaincy rival to the big three is because Bodo are miles ahead of everyone else. Their stats are incredible. Seriously. Molde look good too, very, very solid but are struggling to score as many. For now it's all about Bodo. Might not be in 2 months, but certainly is right now.

I'll take the ridiculous Zinckernagel points but how dare you laugh at Junker.

It is quite funny though. Loads captained him. If I kept my 2 captains I'd be in such a strong position now. Chance gone!

It feels like Zinckernagel is the best permanent choice for captain going forward. As Ramboros says - he gets 80 mins and is heavily involved.

Junker has probably overperformed somewhat. His stats are good but less heavily involved. And being subbed early in games is not helpful when you might need a late winner etc..

      Wow. Two captains completely wasted.

What on Earth. No-one can convince me these captaincy elements of the game aren't the most luck-based, frustrating parts of the game.

Ridiculous. Seriously. Congrats anyone who went with Zinckernagel and Hauge - you win the lottery this week.

It's great that Zinckernagel has got so many points. I understand that. You'd be happy with two returns from two players for double captains but it's looking likely to have cost me around another 15pts. Maybe a bit less. That's worse than a normal captaincy fail. Saving grace is that I got one captain right at least.

This is what I mean about this though. You get a good result. Good points. Still end up frustrated.

Ah well. I'll take my Zinckernagel captaincy points (which are ridiculous) and move on.

Just quite annoying seeing Junker subbed! He'll be fuming not to have scored.

Koomson is the one player I was right about this season.

He looked so good in the first couple of games. Glad to see him doing well and backing me up.

Makes next week harder to plan. Want Kristiansen out for Hedenstad but wanted Berisha to Lauritsen which would see Koomson benched.

Not too sure now but I do think Odd are on the up. Stats definitely suggest they should be.

Haha. I think it was to do with his energy and how he passed the eye test so much even though his stats weren't great - I thought OK this guy is playing within himself.

And Brann should be challenging for a top 3 finish. I may not be bang on with avoiding Eikrem (I know his stats are great and he's getting points) but yeah, I'll admit I got Koomson bang on.

Glad to see him getting the goals. Think he'll be right up there at the end of the season for sure. Happy to assist anyway I can! Just don't listen to me about who to captain..

Going without Eikrem is risky but I’m on that train too. But to get him I’d have to sell Borven and a big mid or two big mids and atm just simply can’t do that.

Yeah, always let me know who you’re captaining, need to avoid them... 😉

Haha. It feels like too much money for him. He might be top scorer come the end of the season but I don't think it'll be by much even if he is. For that money I can spread it round the rest of the team and have way better options.

For example today. Kristiansen didn't play so I get Hanche-Olsen's points off the bench. I know that's lucky, but I set my team up to take advantage of this easy clean sheet fixture for Brann (they concede anyway) and my player is benched out of the blue. I have a good player ready to fill in because I've built my team that way. Would be much harder with Eikrem involved.

There's multiple ways to play this game - as long as you're happy with your own approach then go with it.

Klaesson is a player I probably want to ship. I might upgrade to Linde after the Glimt game and roll with it. Looks like he's going to score most points for GKs this season. Molde looking particularly solid too. They have so much of the ball (average possession is 70%) and when they're shot at they only concede around 9% of the time. I need to collate save data too, so I can get a good idea as to which goalkeepers are affecting their teams progression.

It's lengthy but I add a little bit each day - will have the bigger picture eventually. I just wish I was able to predict these Captains! Might well just perm-capping Zinck. Probably the safest option for me and whatever happens, happens.

Perm-capping Zinck is not a bad shout you know... The man is just on fire and plays for the best team in the league. If he stays I think he’s going to be the highest scorer. (Altough I’m going Jun(K)er next week.)

Linde set and forget feels good to me.

It's quite frustrating. On the one hand I've had an exceptional week - 42 for the week rank so far.

If I captained Hauge with Zinck on my 2 captains (rather than Junker) I'd be just 2 points behind the highest scoring team of the round.

That's quite annoying! But it's hard to be annoyed, too! Shot up to just inside top 5k. Even when I get one captain right, I don't get the other.

Funnily enough - You wouldn't expect Zinckernagel and Junker to necessarily score 36pts together when captained. But they've set such high standards it feels like a fail when they dont.

Either way only 4 players blanked for me this week. Super lucky but I'll take it. As I've said before - it's a numbers game. Gotta play the long game. Thats why I feel Linde set and forget and Zinckernagel perma-cap is probably the safest way to approach GK and captaincy.

This great week has given me a much needed boost. I've been feeling something of a fraud lately. Writing these articles while struggling to get it right in-game.

I do think it is suicide not having the B/G holy trinity to be honest. I can't see any reason not to. They're all so cheap and Hauge is loving life at Bodo atm so in no rush to leave. What a team, seriously. They could easily do a Liverpool this year.

I’m just glad for you to get something right, haha! My round rank is 10th but not sure if they have included my -8 there...

Got to say I got lucky with the two captains.. On paper Junker should be scoring as well as Hauge & Zinck but in the end I just didn’t fancy him and his reduced minutes. And also getting Hauge was huge. I knew I needed him instead of Berisha and with captain’s armband he got 30 points more. Just amazing.

I haven’t watched a single game from Bodo, but all the highlights. They look like Man City to me. Just pass, pass and pass. In a good way. I feel like every single goal comes from a good scoring opportunity, inside the box. My fav team in Norway by a mile. Was last season already, even more so this season.

Hauge is consistent. Usually will get a few points. Junker can explode and score like 5 goals within the blink of an eye.

Only reason I went for Junker was because I felt greedy. He has a higher ceiling on his day and fancied Glimt to score, well, pretty much 6 goals.

If you were told they'd scored another 5 or 6 goals - with 100% accuracy - you'd surely think Junker was involved. I mean, he has been in every single game up to this point.

Hauge and Junker were certainly 50/50 in regards to who to pick. One day you get 2 points from Hauge, the other you get 16. And the same for Junker (well, up to this point he's scored 5pts twice and then its 9pts and upwards). Quite literally the only time Junker hasn't returned is when I put him in as part of my 2 captains. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Hauge is exceptional though. He's STILL yet to blank and perhaps like everyone is suggesting, I've overlooked Junker being subbed earlier. That's definitely an oversight on my behalf.

Still, it's very hard to be upset with it. On another day Junker gets 10pts. Next week he probably will. I think it was really unfortunate not to get anything from him but oh well. It is essentially a chip wasted (I gained 1 extra point!) but I'm used to my chips going to waste in FPL so you know, it is what it is.

Feel like my team is in a really strong place right now. All my hits are working and I only need to sort out a couple of players then take it week by week.

Feels good bringing in Zach and getting that call right, as well as sticking with Borven. Looking forward to the next few weeks.

The stats for Bodo are mad. At the moment (I'm only about 1/3 done) they've got 450 odd more passes than the next team closest to them (Haugesund. Although I'm assuming Molde and a couple of other teams to eclipse them - I just haven't put that data together yet. I'll do that tonight) and their accuracy is 86.7%. I haven't added the data from their game today - I'm sure it'll just increase even further.

Before today's game they'd got more successful dribbles than Aalesunds had even attempted. They're an insanely good team in comparison with everyone else. Finishing off this data collection will be fun. Looking forward to sharing it with you all - just takes a while to get it together!

I’m on 102 currently but on a -8 as well.

Klaesson’s -2 was not what I expected but otherwise it has been a solid week. Tha double captain really working wonders with Zinck 17 and Hauge 16. Zachariassen & Hauge in for Berisha & Sandberg basically was one of the best hits I’ve ever taken.

Don’t know what’s going on with Kristiansen.. Just rotation maybe as it is an easy fixture on paper? I’d keep for now.

I'm on 92 with -4. But going to get Hanche-Olsen's 5pts from the bench. 93 total before any Koomson points.

I'm definitely shipping Kristiansen now. He's too much money to not have a regular starter. Moves I'll be doing are probably:

            Berisha to Lauritsen
            Kristiansen to Hedenstad.

That leaves me with 2.5m ITB and I have all the big hitters bar Eikrem/James.

I'm just not sure what I'm doing for next week. Whether I just bring in Lauritsen or Hedenstad and then do the other move the following week. I want RBK defender for Sandefjord game and I think Odd will do well against Brann.

I've been waiting for Lauritsen to show whether he's going to keep his place get those Borven goals. For 5.9m I'm willing to have a look. Just gives me a benching headache for next reason (Koomson or Edvardsen would need to be benched).

Reason I'm thinking of a hit is because I can't see Kristiansen getting returns against Odd. They're stats look decent. I might actually write my next article about them. Makes for interesting reading on the face of it. If Lauritsen can benefit from that then he suddenly becomes exceptional value. If's and but I know, but still, worth looking at.

Sounds good. Also looking at Lauritsen but it means benching one if Koomson/Lauritsen and I’m not sure if I like that. Rather use the mone to upgrade defence, I think. Maybe get Linde in goal or something.

I’d love an article about Odd. They a lot of interesting players; Lauritsen, Kaasa, Kachi, Rashani, Hoff and even Rossbach.

              My opinion:

Berisha to Lauritsen or Fridjonsson (looking at him too)
Kristiansen to RBK defender right before deadline if you feel like it. If your defence for next round doesn’t look that good then yes -4 is worth it.

Fridjonsson is one of those players I really like the look of, it's just that he's struggled to nail down that starting position. If he can be Aalesunds starting number forward then he's definitely worth a shout.

Reason I really like Lauritsen is he's so cheap and Odd are playing better than I think most people will think due to their results. Odd are pretty much best at not losing possession in the league while having a good amount of possession to begin with. Shots look decent and I'm compiling passing data as we speak. I'll have a look at how they compare to the big boys and see what I make of it.

Also looking at how they've been post-Borven will be interesting and collating the player stats of those players we're looking at. The impact of Rashani coming back will be potentially huge, but they've got some good young players that are stepping up every now and then.

Viking have been dreadful thus far and I can't work out why. Maybe a bunch of individuals? But it's a worry. Odd grinding out these wins is great news though. Life after Borven looking alright so far.

I'm going to have a think about what to do regarding those moves tonight. I know I want rid of Kristiansen but Koomson/Lauritsen is hard to call.

Odd have conceded 3 times at home (2 goals against Sandefjord - I think this was more of anomaly than anything else) and have goals in them. Much to think on.

Yeah I agree, Odd the side to look at. An article about them would be lovely!

And Fridjonsson has to be playing right? 5 goals in 5 games and only 3 starts. Would be stupid to bench him. And AAFK looks good going forward so not at a bad price either for team that overall just sucks atm.

Koomson so close to a hat trick! Seriously love this guy.

Definitely my favourite player in the league. He's always smiling, too! Great stuff.

86 All out, should’ve been more with Bamba dissallowed goal but that’s fantasy for you. Somehow hanging on by a thread without Zinck and I’m one of 2 people in the top 100 to not own him. Would
do Saltnes -> Zinck if I Didn’t have other problems to sort out plus a spare 1.5 mill ... Salvesen and Sandberg are stinking up my team and finally got Pellegrino in for Sandberg let’s hope he start vs Bodo. Salvesen will be coming out next week but striking options are terrible atm so might need to switch to 5 in midfield.

Any other suggestions for my team?

Bojang, Sandberg & Salvesen the only expendables there - very strong team. Zinck the best B/G asset imo, especially based on eye-test.

I’d do Salvesen & Saltness to Lauritsen/Fridjonsson & Zinck. Saltness is good but Zinck is just on fire atm.

          Solid team & rank tho!

Think I'd be prioritising Zinckernagel. But I've switched from Bamba to Borven, via Sandberg to Koomson and Holmgren to Vogt -4. Not sure how it will work out but feels better.

74 all out, green arrow to 815 OR. Doesn't feel like an exceptional GW despite Zinck (K), simply because B/G assets are so highly owned. But a green arrow is a green arrow nonetheless. All chips still intact.

Klaesson out for me, but Haug starts in my GW8 team vs. a poor Haugesund side (especially on the road). Onwards & upwards.

Nice rank. Saved the chip too so good luck to us
