Allsvenskan Fantasy

Fantasy Allsvenskan GW7 Pre-Match Preamble

Fantasy Allsvenskan 2020 might have started out four weeks ago, but to me at least, it has yet to really kick-off. With the ongoing pandemic throwing a gigantic spanner in the works, it seems like most teams have lost track of who they used to be and it’s evident that no crowds in the stands is affecting the way some of the bigger clubs are performing.

Hammarby used to be a defensive catastrophe but made up for it by scoring a boatload of goals (2.5 goals a game to be precise), so far, they are averaging just 1 goal a game.

Djurgården used to be fantastic defensively but have already let in 8 goals in 6 games, last season they conceded just 19 all season.

AIK used to be a bit boring in attack, solid defensively, and a tad bit on the old side in their lineups. Now they’re trying to be more attacking, they’re letting in goals most games and they have an incredibly young starting eleven – filled with potential fantasy bargains.

Malmö used to be hyped up ahead of the season, have a way too deep squad (if there is such a thing), rotate like crazy, depend on Anders Christiansen to get things done and still somehow fall short of the mark… Well, I guess some things stay the same.

With gameweeks flying by all the time it’s easy to start feeling a bit fatigued, especially when they’ve been so low scoring in general so far. The highs of a good score and a rank boost feel so much better when you’ve gathered 80+ points instead of eking out 45 when the average was 30. It also seems rotation will continue to be an issue all summer so the players on our benches need to be ready to step up, however, we’ve also seen a lot of 1-point cameos due to five substitutions being allowed this season.

The start of the season has been a weird one for sure and I’m hoping I’m not the only one struggling to get a hold of just what football without fans in the stand means for the fantasy game around it. Sitting just inside the top 10k might be an achievement in FPL, in Allsvenskan however with 28k managers, it’s considerably less so. Still, it’s early doors and once the games stop coming three times a week (roughly in September), chances are we’ll get into more of a regular groove.

What seems evident is that Norrköping have got some really good things going for them this season and if the other clubs don’t pick up the pace soon, they’ll struggle to catch up.

Recently becoming a dad has thought me that you can make all the plans you want but in the end, how that pans out, is not necessarily a reflection of the plan itself, but rather circumstances, luck, and adaptability. Adaptability is the only one of those that seems possible to affect and it’s something I intend to incorporate into my season.

Starting this gameweek I’m trying to let go of old adages like players needing to be nailed on for 90 minutes, by getting in Gustav Ludwigson for Nils Fröling. That temporarily takes my Hammarby double up to a treble up which seems ludicrous given their performances so far, however, Ludwigson has demonstrated he can be relevant this season given Aron Jóhannsson‘s continued fitness struggles. Muamer Tankovic could also very possibly be leaving both Hammarby and my squad in a few weeks, so I’m not too fussed about the overexposure.

As for the captaincy, I’m leaning on Tankovic, though I suspect Sead Haksabanovic will continue to deliver even with Malmö away on the menu. If I’m willing to adapt to changing circumstances, I’m hoping Hammarby are as well.

Finally, the latest set of Scout Picks are now up on the official Fantasy Allsvenskan site for your consideration, which I hope you enjoy.

Wow, that was a close one!

Activated the PTB chip but didn't save, then updated Djurgårdens twitter non-stop the last minute. About 17:59:30 the line-up was published and Augustinsson was on the bench, so I immedietly cancelled the PTB-chip and put Augustinsson on the bench!

Short term the Augustinsson transfer was a waste then, and I'm disappointed I didn't get to use the PTB-chip this week. At the same time I feel much more relaxed now and I'm actually looking forward to the games now, although at the same time it means I'll have to go through all of this again later this season 😉

I went through the same procedure but with a different outcome.
AIK released their xi early so I knew Tihi was in.
Then a lot of updating until I saw Berg and Witry was in and SAVE.
      Voila, PTB played.

        Good luck! 🙂
I had it lined up with Krogh Gerson, Lauritsen, Berg, Augustinsson and Björnström. Wound up benching Augustinsson and playing Alexander Johansson (Varberg mid) instead.

Thanks gonna be fun(at least until DIF concedes), don't Think I used this chip 2 season ago. Last season I didn't har any chips as I just made a dead team

Good luck with that, I very much envy you. My mind was completely set on playing PTB so I feel quite empty and disappointed now that I screwed it all up. I had exact money for Augustinsson and didn't wanna risk a price rise, so I made the transfer last night. Since Käck was also priced 5.6, in hindsight I should have waited for the line-up to bring in the one playing. In fact, since I had 2ft I could even have shipped Augustinsson for Käck using my second ft to play PTB with Käck, but that thought didn't hit me until about 18:15 or so.

Tuesday morning my team looked great for this GW and I really felt this could be a turnaround for the season. I then got the idea about PTB, ended up swapping Tihi for Augustinsson, Augustinsson then benched, Abraham ill, Vecchia benched and suddenly I don't even have 11 players starting. My season in a nutshell...

Looks like a GW30 PTB for me then.

You should keep an eye out for when Jakob Johansson comes back for Göteborg as he is likely to make them a lot more stable defensively. May get other options than gw30 then

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!

I'd like to build my PTB chip around Norrköping and Malmö, so I'm mainly looking for gameweeks where both of them have good fixtures. GW14 looks nice, but that's the 3rd game in a run of 5 games in 14 days, so rotation will be a major risk then.

If I don't wanna save PTB for GW30, I'm looking at perhaps GW23. It's october and a less hectic schedule with more time to rest for the players.

Norrköping - Sirius (Lauritsen & Gerson)
            Kalmar - Malmö FF (Ahmedhodzic)
            Häcken - Falkenberg (Toivio)
            Göteborg - Varberg (any defender)

You're welcome! That's an incredible achievment!

And also the last thing you'll hear from me this season. 8 gameweeks in and I've had ONE correct analysis, and that was to play PTB this GW. Which I wasn't able to do myself, because every decision I made around this GW was wrong, just like every other decision I've made this season. In 8 gameweeks I've probably spent around 30-40 hours on Allsvenskan fantasy, which has taken me to a spot just inside the top 8000.

I understand and share the frustration Bob, but I think it’s a bit too early to throw in the towel. A shift in perspective might be needed though and I think we all need to accept that this season will be strange, a lot less predictable and more challenging.

The overall low scores does however on the bright side mean we’re not ‘that’ far away from the top even though it’s started out rough. I’m for instance at 9431 OR but still just 135 points off the number one spot 😉

If they can get 135 points ahead in 7,5 GWs, I can claw it back in 22,5 GWs! 😀 Hope you’ll still stick around Bob, you always have valuable insights to add to the discussion.

        All the best regardless,

And I'm 40 points off number one so then you're just 95 points off the top 50-ish mark.

          Bob, don't give up.
After gw3 I had an OR of 9297.
71 points in gw4 landed me an OR of 1887.
As Meltens said these low scoring gw's makes a tightly packed field. One really good gw shoots you up the ranks

Doesn't feel like I have much credibility left by now, with my own team performing so bad. Is it hasty of me to concider PTB next GW?

          Lauritsen (Sirius away)
          Castegren (Sirius away)
          Ahmedhodzic (Kalmar home)
          Augustinsson (Elfsborg away)
          Björnström (Norrköping home)

Would try to get in another Malmö defender for Björnström, and possibly a replacement for Augustinsson as well. Got exact money for Kahl and Eric Larsson.

Not a big fan of using it in gw9, 10 might be better!

I think your credibility is fine, I write Scout Picks and I’m trailing most of you guys 😉 You can’t judge the reasoning and the decisions based on the outcome. In the end it’s a game of luck and probability, sometimes you’re just on the wrong side of both 🙂

Please stay, Bob. This is a small enough community as it is. If I'm doing badly I just reset my targets. We're only as good as our worst seasons, only as bad as our best.

Nothing has gone right for me this season but so far this GW I have jumped from 7.5k to 6k with only three players having played, and no captain. At this state in the season the finest margins can make a huge difference.

I also hope one of my first eleven is rested completely so I get Kahl's 8 off the bench 🙂

Thank you all so much for the support and kind words, I might give it another go after all. It's just so frustrating. Allsvenskan fantasy has been my biggest passion in life for the past 4 years, and one of few things I've actually concidered myself good at. In the previous four seasons of Allsvenskan fantasy games I've never finish below OR 140, now I havn't had a higher rank than 6000 and we've almost played a third of the season. All my previous knowledge about the game seems useless now, and I've made more bad decisions so far this season than in the previous four all together.

I guess I could still make up some ground, but it's hard with no real plan for the game, and knowing that pretty much every move I'll make will likely be wrong. As soon as I've targeted a player, he seems to go completely out of form or being benched, and as soon as I think a team looks interesting they start a loosing streak. Ranked around 8000 I don't see much to fight for, I really need something to lift my season. PTB this week would have been just that, now I might have to settle for a PTB in GW23 and that is months away from now.

Maybe try and set up a defence with 2 Djurgården, 2 Norrköping and a 5th, that would give you decent options in both gw10 and gw12. Then if you get Dif line up early(as they play first those weeks) you go for it if not you're still set up quite nicely those weeks.
Just spitballing ideas, but I really think there are more options out there.

I think there are plenty of more options for a PTB, GW10 and 15 sticks out in the coming weeks too. Plenty of good weeks later on as well.

Hi Bob, please do give it another go. The rankings are compressed so far, so all it takes is a couple of good game weeks to rise in the rankings. IMO, your analysis is spot on, but there is always variance that sometimes messes up even the best plans. 🙂 In the end however, the cream rises to the top, and I believe this become evident at the end of the season. Best of luck if you do continue!

There will already be loads of dead teams above you (and me) with rubbish players and poor (but lucky) permacaps. You will end up pulling ahead of most/all of them. Staying active will help you, whatever you do. Don't be afraid to take a few hits either.

I completely understand you man, I have been feeling your thoughts this year but as the others said, it's too early to give up. Believe me, you're not the only one to struggle as Allsvenskan 2020 is really unpredictable. Look at me, I finished OR2 last year and before this round, I was ranked at 7755. I spend too much time on this game (endless spreadsheets, articles, scatterplots) but can't do anything about it, as I really enjoy. I still think that I've made good decisions, but somehow the things are not working in my favour.

Just a few examples of my unlucky decisions:
            - shipped out Abrahamsson before GW4 (after his 4,2,2 points) and he kept 3 clean sheets after that
            - captained AC when he got the red card
            - got in Piotr Johansson before GW4, he immediately injured on the next match
            - got in Hägg Johansson before GW4 (after his 5,7,7 points), then he got me 3 points in the next 2 GW (while I benched Brattberg who saved a penalty), and when I transferred him out, he made another 5 points

To sum it up, don't give up. We have plenty of time left to get into the top100 and once we are done with it, will be a huge achievement and something to be proud of. Cheers man!

Thank you all, I certainly can't give now after all this great support. Still greatly disappointed to miss out on the PTB this week. An Augustinsson start (or chosing Käck instead) would have given me Lauritsen 14p, Dagerstål 22p, Augustinsson/Käck ~14p, Ahmedhodzic 8p and Björnström 4p. And in hindsight, had I kept Tihi and shipped Björnström, I would have afforded Berg too, but could've, would've, shoud've...

Saves got nothing to do with defensive bonus points.
He still earned 3 save points, same calculation as in fpl.

Ah fair enough. I would have expected them to double count in the same way that FPL bonus points are (in my opinion, wrongly) where, for example, a big chance created is given more BPS if it happens to turn into an assist, which is silly because the pass is the pass.

So, in this case, saves are helping the team defensively as they are preventing clear goal scoring opportunities. Anyway, I'm glad the bonus system is not like FPL so I can take it. He's on my bench anyway 🙂

Making new plans for PTB now, with GW9, GW10, GW14 and GW15 all looking like possible. Any thoughts about this?

      GW9:
      Lauritsen (Sirius a)
      Castegren (Sirius a)
      Ahmedhodzic (Kal h)
      Larsson/Knudsen (Kal h)
      Kahl/Tihi (Varberg a)

+ Sirius have failed to score in two games now. Doubble Malmö at home to Kalmar. Varberg have only scored 2 in 4 games now. All teams playing early on sunday. Can keep the structure ín my team.

      - Three teams have away games. Rotation risk on Larsson/Knudsen.

      GW10:
      Lauritsen (Varberg h)
      Castegren (Varberg h)
      Witry (Östersund h)
      Augustinsson/Berg/Käck (Östersund h)
      Ahmedhodzic (Hammarby h)
      or
      Björnström (Kalmar a)
      or
      Göteborg defender (Falkenberg h)
+ Home games for most teams. Attacking wingbacks in Djurgården. Easier game for Norrköping. Will have another GW to base my decision on.

      - 4th game in short time (higher rotation risk). Malmö playing Hammarby. Will have to ship Irandust in GW9 to free up cash. Will have to rely on Djurgården to release the line-up at 17:59 again, and if they do I only have seconds to make potential changes and activate PTB chip. If they don't, I'll miss out again.

      GW14:
      Lauritsen (Helsingborg a)
      Castegren (Helsingborg a)
      Ahmedhodzic (Falkenberg a)
      Björnström (Varberg h)
      Toivio (Kalmar h)

+ Many teams to chose from. Can keep my current defence and only add a Häcken defender for the gameweek.

      - Three away games. Helsingborg looking better now. 3rd game in 14 days.

      GW15:

      AIK (Östersund h)
      Djurgården (Mjällby h)
      Malmö (Örebro h)
      Sirius (Helsingborg h)
      Norrköping (Hammarby h)

+ Many teams and players at different price to chose from. Easy games on paper.
      - 4th game in 11 days. I wanna build my PTB defence around Norrköping, but not against Hammarby. If going for players from 4-5 different teams, the eggs might be too spread.

I’m heavily considering GW10 if we get Djurgården lineups just ahead of deadline. Lauritsen, Krogh Gerson, Berg, Augustinsson and Björnström.

Looks nice! My defence is pretty similar, but I'll probably ship Björnström and keep Ahmedhodzic. He's good for bonus and I don't think Malmö will concede more than one goal against Hammarby, which should give at least 3-4p even without a clean sheet.

I'm targeting Witry for PTB in GW10, and in order to afford him I got several options. Which would you go for?

          A) Downgrade Irandust to a 5.0 - 6.0 midfielder like Amin or Hussain this week. Swap Björnström for Witry on wednesday, and keep the other FT in case I need to make a late swap of Augustinsson to Käck/Berg once the line-ups are confirmed (if they are confirmed before deadline.

          B) Downgrade Tankovic to a midfielder around 8.5 like Besara. (good fixutures but poor attacking side) this week. Rest is same as option A.

          C) Downgrade Tankovic to Seb Larsson and Vecchia to a cheaper mid like Amin using both my FT this week. Upgrade Björnström to Witry on wednesday. IF Augustinsson is confirmed benched on wednesday, I'll then have to take a -4 hit to bring Käck in.

          D) Keep both Tankovic and Irandust. Downgrade Vecchia to a 4.5 midfielder this week, and swap Björnström to Erik Berg on wednesday. Would be able to keep my structure and premium midfielders, would have a second FT to use on Augustinsson to Käck if needed, but I wont have Witry for my PTB.

To be honest I like option D) the most. While most would probably want to have Witry on a PTB, he's really just impressed when they're chasing a goal and at times from free-kicks (which Augustinsson takes some of now). I don't think he looks as good this year, possibly he's out of form, maybe he missed Danielson and Buya Turay to aim for with the freekicks.

Also, I could very well be biased but looking at stats and the eye test with Hammarby, Kalmar away was a definite step in the right direction. I'm not saying everything will click all of a sudden, but I do think they'll be out for revenge against Göteborg who kicked them out of the cup. I'd probably want to hang onto Tankovic for at least this week and re-assess.

Thanks for the replies. B or D seems like the best options right now. Would feel weird going without Hammarby players, but they've just been so poor this season. They face Malmö away in midweek, so perhaps I could ship Tankovic for the next two games with a view to bring him back further on?

Another option is of course to wait until GW10 to get Tankovic out and Witry in using my 2ft. But that would mean not using any of my 2FT this week, and if Augustinsson is out I'll have to take a -4 hit to get Berg/Käck in. Would feel stupid taking a hit the week after burning a FT.

I see your point about Witry, but he's got high potential and feels very nailed on in that back four.

Thanks for this! I am using my WC this week and probably my PTB next week. Fixtures look great.

Now I think is a good time for me to use my WC. I will happily take suggestions.

      Bråtveit - Noring
Witry - Lauritsen - Castegren - Ahmedhodzic - Another Djurgården
      Tankovic - AC - Haksabanovic - Irandust - Johansson
      Selmani - Abraham - Crona

A few doubts over whether I should use my PTB next week or wait for 14. 13 and 15 also look good but as Bob said, I want to use my PTB around Norrkoping defenders.

Looks nice overall! With a team like that, I'd defenitly use PTB in GW10.

I'd concider another back-up keeper to rotate with Bråtveit. As an owner of both Irandust and Tankovic I would advice against picking them, I've been trying to get rid of them both for a few weeks now. I'd also go for another striker than Crona. There are plenty of options with more expected gametime, and with many games and plenty of rotation you'll need more certain starters. Moro looks intresting again.

76 points and I went down in my MLs. Such a high-scoring week! I guess only having Söderlund's modest 5 in that Elfsborg thrashing didn't help. Plenty of chips played too perhaps.

Any idea if either of Okumu or Abraham are likely to play next round? If not I don't have anyone on my bench (thanks, Thern, for the 0 pointer and the injury!)

      Cheers

Thern to Amin look sensible with a FT by the way? His stats are top-tier for a 5m player

Looks sensible yes, if you have a plan to use the money freed up by that transfer.

Don't know the seriousness of Therns injury, but from what I've heard he's transfered himself out from his own team in favour of Jonathan Levi 🙂

Okumu is out for 2-3 weeks so he'll miss plenty of games. And without him, I wouldn't trust the Elfsborg defence. Abraham should be back, he was ill last weekend and was a doubt for the midweek game, so I'd expect him to play.

Thanks Bob! Shame as I was eyeing up a PTB chip. Never mind, I'll use it l your post above to help guide me. Still might get Amin for Thern and go big in defence in preparation

Amazing looking at the current top 10 in Allsvenskan fantasy! Faith in Norrköping from the start has obviously payed of 🙂

      1. Simon Thern (IFK Norrköping midfielder)

      3. Markus Krunegård (famous swedish artist who wrote an IFK Norrköping anthem ahead of this season)

      6. John Vaattovaara (son of former Norrköping defender Sulo Vaattovaara)

Side note I read he'd be out for one to two weeks? Learning from some posts here, transferred him out for Amin

Late decision: bench Löfquist or Selmani?
