How to use the top 10,000 ownership figures to increase your FPL rank

Ownership is often discussed within the Fantasy Premier League community.

Is a player so highly owned that it’s a risk to sell? Does a player have low enough ownership to consider them as a true differential? These are just some of the conversations FPL managers will have over 38 Gameweeks.

A lot of the time FPL managers will look for differentials under 10% ownership, or preferably under 5% ownership, but I think a player can have 30-40% ownership and still be considered a differential.

At that level of ownership, every six or seven managers out of 10 don’t own that player – that’s still big in my books, especially if the player mentioned is a reliable heavy hitter. When you factor in captaincy, you could be onto a winner.

In this article, I’m going to look at the top 10,000 ownership levels from Live FPL to see if we can determine who might be some of the best differentials going into the final two Gameweeks of the season.

I’m using top 10,000 ownership is I think that’s a better indicator at this stage of the season of active FPL manager ownership than overall ownership, which may include some teams that are no longer active.

Additionally, it’s where a lot of people are striving to finish by the end of the season.

It’s also worth noting that these ownership levels are taken from Gameweek 36+. Any transfers before Gameweek 37+ won’t be included so it’s possible that ownership levels could be higher or lower, especially if a player has performed well, or poorly in the recent Gameweek, and of course dependent on upcoming fixtures. But either way, it’s still a good indicator.

Lets take a look at some of the most popular teams first.

    Captaincy...
    A) Bruno (WHU)
    B) Rashford (WHU) my current captain on form
    C) Mane (CHE)
    D) KDB/Mahrez (wat)

Choosing between Pope vs a Leeds GK going to be tough next season

Any chance Meier gets 4.0 & keeps his place I wonder - Bielsa has kept him starting even though Casilla’s ban is over

Both Leeds & Brentford defences solid as rocks on pure goals conceded - better even than Sheffield United were last year

May not translate to premier league of course (and Brentford May yet have a long way to go through playoffs etc if they can’t pass West Brom) but looks encouraging

Pope is just ridiculous though - probably a bargain at 5.5 tbf - Could we get lucky with a 5.0 tag??

If he’s 5 he’s straight in my team. Doubt he will be though.

Will probably pick a 4.5 gk again. Will have to keep low expectations after starting with Pope this season

Will be easy if Dyche is gone.

If likes of Tark/Mee are priced lower than Pope, they will probably be better pick.

Just reposting to see what others think. Too outlandish a claim? 🙂

re Danny Ings... what a season, and fair play to him getting and largely staying fit. 20 goals and counting is no mean feat, he’s a quality player and goalscorer when he gets going.

And if he can do that while largely carrying Southampton on his back, you’d have to think Spurs, Arsenal (if Auba left especially), even City dare I say it could benefit. He’s a better player than Jesus.

He shouldn’t go ANYWHERE else than southampton

That medical team have figured out how to manage the chronic injury issues, and for a player with his troubled past that’s worth its weight in gold

There was a reason liverpool cam knocking originally - he’s just so good that he’s not out of place at that type of club, but he’ll just start breaking down again

Stay put and enjoy as much football as he can imo, fantastic player

    Case for Chris Wood.

    - In good form. Has been involved in 13 goals in his last 21 pl starts (12g 1a)

    - Faces 2 teams on the bench in last 2 gws (nor BHA). Norwich fixture especially is entricing. Scored a brace in reverse leg

Norwich tend to concede an abnormally huge amount of big chances to strikers. In their past 2 games, the opposition striker against them has been averaging 8 shots in the box and 4 big chances per game. They have struggled aerially as well by conceding total 7 headers. This really plays into Wood's strenght

    - Great underlying stata. Only Vardy, Jesus and Abraham have recorded more big chances in the league than Wood this season...

    - Ultimate differential to chase ml or climb up the rankings with only 1.5% total ownership

With form, fixture and stats backing him up do you fancy jumping on the Wood Wagon?

Certainly fancy Wood (nor BHA) over Vardy(tot MU) for last 2gws

Leicester are hit hard by injuries to key players like Maddison Pereira Chilwell and Soyuncu. Fixtures are hard as well with spurs and united being tight at the back

Spurs 21 shots had a combined XG of 1.1

They were on average 0.05 XG per shot

MouMou is ok with allowing those types of shots 🙂

Utd have the joint best XGC in the league and only Liverpool have conceded less than them on the season - and their last 10 games are even better

It’s all relative - relative to other teams in the league they have a tight defence

    Pope, (Button)
    TAA, AWB, Doherty, (Holgate, Lascelles)
    Salah, KDB, Mahrez, Bruno, (Guendouzi)
    Vardy, Jimenez, Greenwood

    1 FT, 1.3 ITB

Holgate and Lascelles are presumably out for the season, but I'm not sure if I should prioritize my FT on my bench defenders. I'm also considering transferring out one of my FWDs out for Chris Wood b/c of his form and his upcoming match vs Norwich.

I think people selling Vardy & Chelsea players are missing a point here.

    Chelsea 63 Leicester United 62

Chelsea have bad GD compared to rest of 2.

If Pool beat them they can get to 66 points.

If United & Leicester win their games & draw last game Chelsea will get knocked out even if they win big vs Wolves.

With so much at stake, Vardy Pulisic Willian will be gunning to score goals IMO.

Spurs 21 shots had a total XG of 1.1

Those are type of shots that Mourinho is totally ok with allowing - you could allow 100 shots with 0.05 XG each & the keeper will save 99 of them 🙂

Oh yeah absolutely I’m not saying Vardy can’t score - jeez he can hattrick from negative XG he’s that good

But I just understand the case for those that sold prior to Sheffield - but anything can happen, no one would be suprised were he to brace in his last 2 games for example - he’s been doing it all season

I took a calculated risk on selling last week though!

The “gunning to score goals” logic is always a little tenuous to me personally when used to justify a transfer

There’s rarely a player out there who doesnt step out onto the pitch wanting to score in any game, be it 5 aside, Sunday league, pub team, or premier league

Don’t sell Salah because he’s going for he golden boot
Don’t sell Vardy because he’s going for the golden boot

      Etc, etc

There’s probably a grain of truth in it tbh - but I think there’s a lot more going on there that needs to be taken into account

Agreed, back and fourth between Salah & Tony atm, i feel Salah will have a mega game against Chelsea. For some reason i just feel WHU could be on a high now, but at the same time they could have a “put our feet up” attitude now.

Repost with more info: Got a bench boost, a triple captain AND a free hit left. (Stupid, I know). Whuch chip would you play in the remaining two weeks and why?

    Team:
    Ryan
    Pope
    Boly
    Wan-Bissaka
    Digne
    Dunk
    Egan
    Fernandes
    Sterling
    De Bruyne
    Pulisic

    Greenwood

Yeah. Regardless of if Mahrez is likely to start, they’ll surely be putting David at the centre of everything for that game. Could profit hugely.
