Top 10k managers set for chip extravaganza in Gameweek 38+

Just under a third of Fantasy Premier League managers inside the top 10k are preparing to use their Free Hit chip on the final day of the season.

With 2.6% of them deploying it for Gameweek 37+, that brings the total usage of that chip at this level to 68.9% with one round left to go.

That means 31.1% are saving the Free Hit for Gameweek 38+, a sizeable number and certainly enough for significant change to take place in the top 10k on the final day of the campaign.

Meanwhile, an additional 2.2% of managers at this level will be lining up with a completely brand new squad on Sunday, considering that’s how many of them are yet to play their second Wildcard.

As well as a large number of top 10k line-ups expected to fluctuate between the final two Gameweeks of the season, there will be a noteworthy number of Triple Captains in play.

2.5% of them used the enhanced armband for Gameweek 37+, bringing the total for the season to 91.7%. Therefore, 830 managers from the top 10k are likely to be heading into the final day of the campaign with their skipper armed with a Triple Captain chip.

What all of those numbers boil down to is that 54.3% of top 10k managers have no exhausted their chip supply for the 2019/20 season.

It means that 45.7% of them will have the ability to deploy one on the final day of the season.

As already mentioned, this is a significant portion of the top 10k managers, which could lead to plenty of rank changes in the upper echelon.

Bringing things back to Gameweek 37+, it is the Manchester United attack that will determine the narrative of this season’s penultimate round of action.

Bruno Fernandes (£9.1m) has amassed the highest level of support ahead of West Ham’s visit to Old Trafford, 35.8% of the top 10k managers handing him the armband.

The Portuguese international has now broken the 100-points mark after just 12 games in a Manchester United shirt, which is probably why the top 10k see him as the more reliable option.

However, those who have backed Anthony Martial (£8.5m) can feel relatively secure going into Gameweek 37+ too. The Frenchman has delivered in every home match since the Premier League restart, averaging 16 points per game in that time. The fact that just over 30% of the top 10k made the same decision to captain him, they are somewhat protected in that respect too.

Fernandes and Martial are the only two players to boast more than 100% effective ownership at this level for Gameweek 37+, on 131.9% and 100.8% respectively.

Despite proving unfortunate to blank in his last two outings, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has only convinced 7.6% of the top 10k to back him for the captaincy.

However, those who felt confident enough to do so will probably enjoy how few managers handed Salah the armband. Considering how poor Chelsea’s defence has looked on the eye recently, there does appear to be an opportunity for the Egyptian’s backers to make up real ground if he delivers the big haul he has been promising in recent weeks.

Martial’s increasing popularity in the top 10k can be spotted by his showing in the Free Hit squads at this level.

The Frenchman was chosen by 95.1% of such managers, more than Fernandes (91.3%) and more than any other player in any other position.

The Free Hitters were big fans of Manchester United, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.5m) and Marcus Rashford (£8.9m) both making it into this matrix of most popular assets chosen on them.

They were clearly put off by Manchester City’s awkward FA Cup schedule though. Despite a favourable trip to Watford, Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) is the only Citizen to be given serious consideration by the top 10k Free Hitters this week.

Gabriel Jesus (£9.8m) has suffered a similar fate in the overall ownership at this level.

He was the third-most-popular forward in the top 10k for Gameweek 36+ but has dropped out after the latest deadline.

Replacing him in the template is Raúl Jiménez (£8.1m). The Wolves forward netted against Burnley and faces a Crystal Palace defence that has conceded 15 goals since the Premier League returned.

Outside of that switch, there has not been a tremendous amount of fluctuation in the template between the two most recent Gameweeks, perhaps suggesting that some top 10k managers are holding a free transfer ahead of the final round of the season.

In midfield, Christian Pulisic (£7.4m) has dropped from 50.5% to 32.9% ownership at this level, leapfrogged by Salah, although the Egyptian only rose from 43.12% ownership to 43.2%.

The only other relatively major change is in defence, where Serge Aurier (£5.1m) has replaced Wan-Bissaka in the top-five, the right-back perhaps suffering as managers try to realign how they are tripled-up on Manchester United assets.

How many minutes will Silva and Tierney (started last 6, which is Most in a row by far and Kola and Saka/AMN could easily come in) get in GW37 now?

Does this look ok for a FH? Trying one last push to break into the 10k and think this will be different enough -albeit slightly- from the expected template. Obvious risk is light on Man U, but could easily be a tight game against Leiceister.

    Martinez
    TAA Pieters Bardsley
    Salah Sterling KDB Dilva

I purchased the yearly membership in which i got the rest of the run in of this season and the whole of next season. I am still familiarising myself with the best tactics and how to interpret data to improve as a player so I can be like other players on here who are ranked high. I am currently in the 1.5 million OR bracket. Can the experts on here shed some light on how they use the fantasy football scout/FPL shows to make their decisions please?

For example, I've noticed that there are some owners on here that make very bold decisions which matches what the pundits on FPL show/scout members say and make changes which I feel really nervous of. Like transferring out a prime striker for Wood, benching TAA, shipping out KDB etc. I feel like I've always looked at the profile of the player and went with big team players, like I could never have the courage to transfer out KDB for perhaps Antonio as an example even if he was on form because I always expect the big star status of KDB to prevail and often left disappointed.

What is the key here? Is it to trust what FPL scouts say and use their team as a benchmark of what transfers to make? How often do yous just go with the flow of the FPL pundits? Am i the only one who feels nervous for making transfers whereby you take out a big player for a differential from a middle order team perhaps? I've only had 3 GW's as a membership so I've not had an opportunity to really make an assessment but sometimes I do feel confused by the selections and make the wrong decisions. I understand there's an element of luck to it, but I'm sure there must be a method that works more often than not and luck plays a small part here and there? If I can get a few strategies people use, it would be greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to know because I'm quite new here and for next season, I want to try win one of my ML. A lot of people I guess are close enough to the 100k or better, just wish I can even be half as good aha. There's a lot of data available on this website, just need the right direction i guess.

Sorry if this is an off-topic message, hopefully I get replies. Thanks in advance.

I think the fixtures are your best indicator. Pick players who are proven and who have good fixtures. Then get in early on cheap starting players from weaker teams to save money. Captain calls are huge also

Never had a membership on here but been on here for a while. However what I’ve looked for over the years is upside do I think this player will reasonably outscore this player over another for the next 4/5 game weeks.

Usually when it comes to transferring heavy hitters you have to understand the risk, many people on here hate the concept of covering. Although I think it can work in big team such as big teams who tend to score high amounts of goals and therefore points. When I transfer out a big hitter it is usually due to fixtures as I tend to veer more on fixtures than form unless it’s a player whom is to hot to not get in, although I am much more confident in selling a heavy hitter if I know I have cover or a big hitter with better fixtures. This may be a big ramble however this is how I’ve played the game over the years. I haven’t kept up with FPL the last few years and reflects on my rank although if you listen to some people such as lateriser or the scout cast after a few months you get to understand their thoughts and feeling behind players and their reasoning for keeping and moving players and helps your critical thinking when deciding what to do with players.

There are no rules in FPL. Go with your gut, that is how you learn about decisions and then how you improve.

      Mistakes happen in fantasy.

If you pick TAA, stick with him. Attacker in defence. Highest scoring defender in the game.

Nothing wrong with ditching KDB at this point as he is not returning and playing deep.

I have had KDB in and out my team many times this season lol. Stuck with Salah though and rightly so as he is the highest scoring player in the game.

Not a member and it's my first year using the site but I've stuck to a lot of my main principles, the main player for a team going well will be in my team. Def must attack, mid are marquee or play like strikers. Like others say, fixtures are key.

Im not trying to be critical here but you are focusing on exactly the diametrically wrong reasons for why some managers are successful.

The top managers are not successful because they remove KDB for Antonio or captain Chris Wood. They are successful because they make dull, sensible decisions and stick with them for long periods of time.

What you are seeing is that some times, they will see that a once-in-a-blue-moon chance emerges for someone like Antonio to be a good pick. The best managers will indeed pounce on that. But that is not the reason they are top managers. They are at the top because they kept dull picks like Pope, Salah, KDB, Jimenez through seemingly bad patches of games and focused their transfers elsewhere.

If you want to maximize the effect of FFS membership, look at the stats tables and focus almost entirely on xG and Big Chances for midfielders and strikers and pick the best ones in each price category and stick with them for long time periods (unless stats change drastically for some reason). That will take you into the top 1% of managers easily. Once you are there you can start to consider some calculated punts like Antonio against Norwich (this punt was also heavily supported by xG stats fwiw).

      HAve fun

Captain picks have been an absolute disaster for me this season. I define a successful captaincy as getting 12 or more(pretty low bar). I haven’t looked at FPL anywhere near as much this year. However I think things like Pep roulette and not really having that much of a nailed on captain every week like we’ve had in previous years eg Kane, Salah you used to captain them without thinking and know they’d return however no one has really taken that role this year. There’s been players at certain periods but not throughout the whole season consistently hauling week in week out although Fernandes has been the best captain choice since he’s came to the league. I think it’s two or three blanks since being there off the top of my head, unbelievable returns really.

I've placed my faith in Salah quite a lot this season. Has taken about half of all my caps and it's been a bit hard to predict when he'll haul. I tend to avoid capping City assets bcos of fear of Pep and then sometimes i just didn't get the rub of the green. For instance choosing Aguero over KDB in gw31+ and then Aguero gets injured.

Also probably didn't hop on the Vardy train early enough and when I did, his points dried up. Ironically the individual who always let me down- Kane- did fairly well cap wise for me this year

I have had a nightmare with captains too. Have never got a KDB haul despite owning him for large parts of the season. TC was a disaster. Captained Salah, Auba, Sterling for 2 pointers at various times

Had KDB and Salah pretty much all season and tried to give it to the one with the best fixture from those two each week. I don't think my success rate has been too good though.

I’ve just worked it out after seeing this and I’ve had 16 captain blanks in 36 gameweeks. By blank I mean no attacking or clean sheet returns, just 1,2 or 3 points.

That’s around 45% of my gameweeks my captain has blanked. No wonder I’m 280k this year.

Top offenders are Aguero & Sterling, surprisingly Salah, didn’t pick up on his poor away form quick enough

We've had a very similar season. Ranked around the same as well. It's so frustrating as I feel I'll at least be in the top 100k if I had done better across the season.

Yeah it looks like we have. I captained Sterling twice both for 1 pointers, multiple Salah blanks and the same as you for Vardy missed penalty (0). I thankfully didn’t captain Son for his red card

I hate captaincy. Wish they remove it for next season even though i know theres 0% chance.

Captaincy increases luck by a LOT. So many game weeks there are 50/50 captaincy decisions that end up as 25+ points swings.

Captaincy is also the sole factor of the 100+ EO crap that has managers hoping for one or more of their players to perform badly which sucks the fun out of the game. God help anyone who caps anyone other than KDB or Bruno next gameweek. Basically means you have only 9 players in your squad..

        Successes (5 or more)

        5 - Salah and Vardy
        2 - Sterling, KDB
1 - Abraham, Mane, Aguero, Bruno

I’ve only hit 12 or more points on 15 occasions with the captaincy this season. And quite a few of those have been 12 points exactly, rather than a larger haul. Only really had any success during Vardy’s streak and a couple of Salah hauls. Most of the fails have been 2-pointers. Especially early in the season - during first 12 weeks my captain on did well 3 times. I also captained Son for his red card.

I usually semi-auto-captain Salah, but he’s seemed a little less reliable this season, especially early on. I didn’t spot that his away points (when Mané starts) aren’t great.

I also wasted the TC on Mane when he got injured in the first few mins of the DGW.

Generally found this season to be horrible all-round though.

Next season I think I’d give more weight to home fixtures.

Salah is in. Im just very tempted by a double up with Mane against crippled Newcastle.

    Who wins my ML?

    1) Me -- will TC in gw38
    2) 2nd place -- trails by 10, will FH

I'm glass half-empty on this one.

All depends on what shape your team us in now and whether your TC works out. I would rather be behind by 10 and gave free hit personally

Yep. Kind of what I'm thinking. Rival keeps telling me he's more worried about my TC. I'm not buying it.

If on a free hit, and money ml rival olis only 12 points behind, knowing he doesn't have FH, wound you,
    A) mirror the majority of his team
    B) pick best possible FH team.
    C) Mix of A and B.

I mirrored one year (think I was around 20 points ahead) and almost lost to his one ft. Think he picked Walcott and he went off. Now I would advise to pick the best team. Maybe mirror hisbiggest haulers to cover, e.g - if he has Sterling just go for him rather than KDB but for sure get on best defenders/keepers/mid price mid and forwards

    Thoughts on this FH team?

    Martinez
    Long - Bardsley - Pieters
    Salah - Martial - Sterling - Dilva
    Jesus - Auba - Kane

Subs: Martins - Lamperty - Guendozi - Simpson
