Klopp decimates Fantasy teams in mass rotation of Liverpool assets

WRITTEN BY DAVID MUNDAY AND NEALE RIGG

Jurgen Klopp has gone from hero to zero for Fantasy Premier League managers in the final Gameweek of 2019/20.

The Liverpool manager has ripped up his usual team-sheet for the trip to Newcastle, consigning Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold to the bench.

Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk are the only two key Fantasy assets to keep their place in the side, which features Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi as the front-three.

After all the talk over potential rotation and midweek jollies to Saint-Tropez, Pep Guardiola has made only one change from the Manchester City side that beat Watford 4-0 on Tuesday.

David Silva returns to the team as expected, with Bernardo Silva making way.

Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling make up the three-man City attack, so that again means no place in the side for Riyad Mahrez.

Kevin De Bruyne also keeps his place.

Daniel Farke’s four changes are all enforced, with Emiliano Buendia and Josip Drmic suspended and Timm Klose and Alex Tettey injured.

Teemu Pukki, Marco Stiepermann, Lukas Rupp and Christoph Zimmermann all return.

Chelsea have made two changes, with Christian Pulisic in for the injured Willian in attack.

Frank Lampard has stuck with a wing-back system but has recalled Willy Caballero between the posts, with the out-of-sorts Kepa Arrizabalaga making way.

Adama Traore, Joao Moutinho and Daniel Podence drop out for Wolves, with Romain Saiss, Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto promoted to the starting XI.

Raul Jimenez makes his 37th league start of the season.

There is just the one change to the Manchester United side from Gameweek 37+, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka replacing Timothy Fosu-Mensah at right-back.

Brendan Rodgers has seemingly stuck with three centre-halves but has made three alterations nonetheless, with Hamza Choudhury, Kelechi Iheanacho and Marc Albrighton replacing Ayoze Perez, Harvey Barnes and Ryan Bennett.

Mikel Arteta perhaps has one eye on the FA Cup final as he has made five changes to Arsenal’s starting XI for the visit of Watford.

Sead Kolasinac, Bukayo Saka, Lucas Torreira, Cedric Soares and Eddie Nketiah drop out, with Kieran Tierney, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Nicolas Pepe, Joe Willock and Granit Xhaka recalled.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starts in attack, as does Alexandre Lacazette.

The Hornets have themselves made two changes, with Danny Welbeck and Adam Masina in for the benched Tom Cleverley and Adrian Mariappa.

All appears as it should be for Spurs, who name Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Giovani Lo Celso as their front-four attacking players.

Those still invested in Serge Aurier can also be happy as the right-back holds his place in the side.

Crystal Palace are as depleted as expected, with Tyrick Mitchell starting at left-back and still no Luka Milivojevic in the starting line-up.

Michail Antonio owners will be pleased to see the West Ham midfielder holding down the centre-forward position for Aston Villa’s trip to the London Stadium.

Mark Noble is still in the number 10 role, supported by Declan Rice and the box-to-box option of Tomas Soucek behind him.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the man to miss out for Everton, replaced in the front-line by Moise Kean, who plays alongside Richarlison.

Crucially, Jarrad Branthwaite gets a final start of the season in defence at just £4.0m.

John Lundstram may be out there in some Fantasy squads still as today he bids farewell to the budget defender category for good.

He starts in central midfield for Sheffield United today, alongside Sander Berge and John Fleck.

The Blades face a Southampton side fronted by Danny Ings, who has his sights on troubling Vardy for the Golden Boot.

Amid all the carnage elsewhere, there is familiarly reassuring news from Turf Moor as Sean Dyche sticks with the same starting XI that made the cut in the 2-0 win over Norwich.

Leandro Trossard, Aaron Mooy and Pascal Gross all drop out of the Brighton midfield, meanwhile, with Alexis MacAllister, Solly March and Aaron Connolly handed recalls.

4971 to 4133 by the looks of things. Reached the top 2.4k just before the restart. Very happy, and that's me bowing out of FPL and tbh won't be back, it's ruined my enjoyment of football! Thanks everyone and would echo what others have said - a small donation to LiveFPL is in order.

feel for you mate - I saw news of Liverpool line up and couldn't believe it so decided not to trust source so left TAA, Salah in.
with Mahrez & nketiah in my line up I had no chance to win my league, so walked the dog and had a less stressful time.

Not sure what FPL will do with fake news & leaks as it is making it unfair. Maybe they can let us make changes after team sheets have been issued??

Troy said "I’m 32 years old, I’ve a knee operation next week because I’ve been playing injured for the last month. I honestly don’t know if this is going to be my last game at Watford or in the Premier League. I don’t know, it’s too early to talk about that and it’s not about me it’s about the people at the club who work at the club and will be affected. But you know if I do ultimately stop playing for Watford as of now I’ve had a great run, next week or the week after is going to be 10 years at this club. Which of your players were benched? How did your transfers go? How did your bench perform? Did your captain return? Did playing a chip work for you?

Decent chaanges overall. Sold KDB and Bruno on my FH but the other 9 blanked (from my week 37 team). Can't be sure I would have capped KDB but even then, probably still up.

Last minute tinkering from the Liverpool news earned me 7 points, even though I got rid of Auba.

Can't believe the top guys didn't make use of the Liverpool news.

64 this week. About 100k probably.

Saw some very late team news and having dithered between Vardy, Giroud, Jimenez, Rashford, Jesus, Lacazette or Kane as my main striker, got rid of Salah for Son, and brought in Kane for Lacazette.

Looks like I've squeaked home the cash league by 6 points. I did ditch Lamptey for Egan too which I think (if everything was the same) I would have still just about won the league if I'd left it as-is.

Benchboost play, last gameweek of the season and a climb to get into top 50k:
Team news shows TAA benched, heartache starts. Add on Newcastle cheeky goal early to take away Alisson and VanDijk CS and it was a rocky start, but it turned, oh it turned.
Alisson / Ryan (2 pts each for a 4 pt keeper round.. not great but...)

Walker(10),TAA(1),Digne(1),van Dijk(9),Azpilicueta(5) (26 pts in the back 5, decent enough)

Richarlison(2),Fernandes(22 captain), Martial(6), De Bruyne(19),Pulisic(3) (52 point midfield, get in there)

Ings(8),Greenwood(2),Connolly(8) (18 pts from a very cheap striker lineup, 0,18% ownership on Connolly had me well chuffed)

      Projected total rank: 42,773

Going into it winning my ML was the priority. I had 6 points lead over second place and 24 over 3rd place, but they both had free hit left.

Took 8 points hit to bring in Silva and Kane and kept the armband on Sterling.

I won the ML, both of them didn't have KdB in their free hit team 🙂

      Very very jammy GW38.

Was all set to do KdB to Sterling. Saw “FPL Scarface” tweet that Sterling was benched, decided not to make the transfer and captained KdB instead. Was squeaky bum time the whole time since everyone else in money ML had captained Sterling.

Won by 24 pts in the end. Undeserved, but that’s FPL sometimes

78pts (-4) BB chip used. Horrible week really. Was hoping for a big final week to at least get me into the top 100k which whilst would not have been my aim at the start of the season, it would have been acceptable after I've struggled all season.

I had my full bench boost quad of 15 players all in the predicted line ups so was set up well. However the early team news completely screwed me over. Mahrez supposedly starting according to Andy so I removed KDB for him in at attempt to make some ground with what I thought was a great differential.

Then the team news is revealed and Mahrez is benched as well as TAA and Willian not even in the squad due to injury which I saw no mention of pre game.

Grateful to still get some points from Mahrez at the end of the game but KDB mega haul just added to the pain.

Looks like I'm finishing around 131k which is my second worse season in 14yrs and only the 3rd time I've finished outside the top 100k.

It looks like I'm beating the GOAT Mark Sutherns though so at least that is something!

Slight rough. Although my best season to date, I just missed out on top 10k possibly on transfers made.

      An insanely strange smooth
Finished with 97 points, to finish around 170k, which is poor by normal standards, but damn good considering I was at 800k pre restart of the league
Won 3 MLs (was behind in 2 of them by about 30 points)
I'd wanted to & thought I'd captained Sterling (owned dilva & kdb) but seems I got confused with all the blue coloured city jerseys & actually ended up capping kdb.
Also saw the pool leaked team news & did TAA & ings to pieters & Aubameyang on FH.

Rough; Saw the Salah news, made a late switch to Dilva(c) who I’d brought in for Pulisic. Having owned KdB all season a decision I got wrong but with a minute to digest things it seemed the best plan! Lots of 1/2 pointers. 4m GW rank.

Smooth; KdB, Fernandes, Jesus main returners.

Finished on 58 points. 2399 points overall for the season beating my old best of 2384. I dropped 800 or so today but finished at 2508 OR beating my previous best 4K rank. I've not taken a single hit all season either!

Not quite cracking the top 1k, but a new pb finish and second top 5k, so got to be happy I guess, but was at 602nd in lockdown. In 14 seasons of FPL I've now had nine top 30k finishes.

Swapped Rashford for Kane (C), which I'm fairly pleased with.

Forgot about the deadline, so ended up wasting my 2nd free transfer. Would have done something like KDB > D.Silva, which actually ended up being for the better. I guess that's my smooth?!

I’m just going to say smooth.

Recaptured my ML (6-time champ), rebounded from a 434k finish last year to 52kish this year. So I largely met my season goals but had higher hopes post-restart.

But rough was definitely a last minute FH change to bring Auba in for Salah and then not getting him in the starting lineup before the game updated. 16pts as my first sub. That hurt.

      Sold KDB & Bruno.
Mane, TAA & Robbo axis was decimated 15 before kick off. Moved fast and brought in Digne, Antonio & Rashford.

FH scored 55. Previous weeks team scored 73 points. Doubled my rank to 5.8k. I should be delighted with my first top 10k finish and when I look back I think I will be. However I resumed after lockdown at 1.9k and have been up to 600 OR on two different occasions this season. It feels like an opportunity that slipped out of my grasp.

After a season of poor captain picks I managed to get the most important one correct. I TC’d KdB and scored 104points for the week. Boosted my OR from 117k to 62k. A very nice way to end the season.

Stanislas and King my gw highlight.79 points without Kdb.Ings,Jesus,Martial,Fernandes,VVD,Sterling(c) the other players.
      Rough:Pope,Tarkowski and Fredericks.

Rough: Got only 4 additional points from Bench Boost, of them I took a hit for Peiter's 3. Basically 0 points from the chip!

I would have one point more if I didn’t do Taylor>Pieters for the hit, which would be enough for a top 10k finish. At stuck 10022 now!

Smooth: Got 94 and became first in all 3 of my mini league!

Rough: Salah and TAA benched and failing to return. Willian not even in the squad. Dilva transfer in for a hit not returning.

Smooth: KDB TC solves all problems. Jesus transfer provides a return. Win three money leagues leagues and in one, I haul in a 28 point deficit to win by three points. I TCed KDB and he captained Sterling.

I was 4 points behind in my money league.
I had DCL, TAA, Mane, Willian (bench), Mahrez, Holgate(bench) in my squad, I lost my hope before it starts.
I won the league with last minute Mahrez assist and Mane goal by 3 points difference!
      Finished in top 5K.

Terrible end to the season. 45 points. Sold KDB and Fernandes in last 2 weeks to chase top 100k. Ended up at 300k.

Lost my main minileague. 44 point swing on final day. He had KDB TC and won on transfers made.

Roll on the next FPL season!

Rough: not knowing the leaked lineups. Talking about the leaks I got back home from family lunch at 2:30pm on Sunday in time for team news, only to discover there was no water in the property. Had to abandon FH tinkering, stuck C on Dilva and called Thames Water instead. Got the water issue fixed just as Dilva was being substituted

Rough: only 13 points from my non-City players, out of top 5K
Smooth: found the correct City trio and stayed within top 10K (6th season in a row)

81pts to give overall a nice finish to the season on a green arrow. 41k OR, happy enough with that considering I was 66k 2 weeks ago.

Smooth this week was Tierney, KdB, Kane, Ings, Sterling(c) all scoring. Saw early team news although that didn't make a huge difference (Pulisic and Airier for TAA and Salah). FH team scored a fair bit more than my non-FH team would have done so glad that chip went well. Rough was double Burnley defence (Pieters assist aside), and Dilva unfortunate not to score.

Really happy with my season, finished at 8134 OR

My GW 38 smooth, kept Mahrez, that’s it...

Rough, took out KDB for Sterling (C) and Martial for Antonio for a -4. Was trying to win the Arsenal Sweden ML, had to take a gamble. Were 2nd before the GW 38 started, ended up 5th place. And my OR rank went from 4331 to 8134. So my gamble didn’t work out....Last time I took out KDB was against Arsenal in GW 19, I never learn haha.

Smooth: Realised Salah was going to be benched and last minute did Mahrez/Salah >> KDB/Auba!! Massive swing in points

Rough: Only managed to claw back 20 points in my main ML when i needed to claw back 25 points! Would have got extra 5 points if i started B.Williams as opposed to N.Williams. Very disappointed as the "smooth" was pretty pointless in the end.

Took out Alonso, Martial, Fernandes and Vardy for Pieters, Mahrez, Son and Jesus for an 8pt hit. Ended up with a net 42 points. Red arrow from 19,636 to 39,464.

Very smooth, almost halved my rank with a KDB captain.
Just outside the top 0.5% at 43k rank. First season back in it after a couple of years out (FPL even lost my season rank history), I'm hoping next year will be just as fun.

I really can't explain why I'm so consistently crap at FPL. Finished 4 points ahead of last season's points total. 9 ahead of the season before. Only once Have I finished above 200k. This year I paid for memberships for both FFScout and FFHub. The pay off was 4 points. It was a season of two halves though: I've been averaging 77 points per week since playing my WC in GW28. If I replicated that over the course of a season I'd have finished more than 200 points ahead of the world number 1. Weird game.
