Aleksandar Antonov wins 2019/20 Fantasy Premier League crown

A fantastic Gameweek 38+ for Aleksandar Antonov was enough for the Bulgarian to leap from third to first in the overall Fantasy Premier League standings and clinch the 2019/20 crown.

Aleksandar scored a whopping 93 points without the aid of a chip, with his successful captaincy of Kevin De Bruyne (£10.6m) proving key.

Double-digit hauls for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) and Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) also boosted his score, with almost 70% of his Gameweek 38+ total coming from those three aforementioned players.

The two managers who had been immediately above our new champion, Joshua Bull and erstwhile leader Chris McGowan, both used chips in Gameweek 38+ but were edged out on the final day.

Joshua used his second Wildcard and racked up 68 points, overtaking Chris but finishing 18 points short of Aleksandar.

Our runner-up captained Harry Kane (£11.0m) on the concluding afternoon of football but even if he had handed the armband to De Bruyne, would still have finished in second spot.

Above: Aleksandar’s winning team

Chris used his Triple Captain chip on Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), meanwhile, with the Egyptian only registering a ‘one-pointer’ after coming off the bench in the second half on Tyneside.

Again, though, handing the armband to his vice-captain, Raheem Sterling (£12.0m), wouldn’t have stopped Aleksandar from winning.

Chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen had a Gameweek 38+ to forget after a memorable season, captaining Salah after taking a hit to bring the Liverpool winger in.

Magnus’s Gameweek score of 40 saw him drop from fourth to 11th in the overall standings.

Fantasy Football Scout Leagues

Aleksandar and Chris finished as first and second in our Fantasy Football Scout league, with Bill Wilkins claiming the bronze medal after a successful Free Hit on the final day.

Our Members League was won by Nathan Woollaston, who finished three points clear of regular contributor Lateriser.

Tom Russell claimed the third podium spot in that league.

Ismail Hossan Rasel was the victor in our post-restart mini-league, with TopMarx coming out on top amongst the Mods and Cons.

Congratulations to all of the above managers on their hugely successful seasons.

We’ll have more reaction to come on these success stories in the next few days and weeks.

Impressive to overtake the two chips on the final day.

Fantastic last week score. Commiserations to the chap on here who was leading at the point of it restarting.

Finished in the top 5k I think so delighted with that, and on that note, I'm bowing out of the stress of FPL, possibly forever. I've also watched an unhealthy amount of football since the restart and I'm looking forward to paring it back and actually watching MoTD again next season.

A huge thanks to ragabolly for livefpl and would urge people to donate to his site.

Thanks everyone it's been an ordeal/blast *delete as appropriate

Chris McGowan adds his name to the long list of managers that FFS cursed by interviewing them during the run in. 😛

That's some weapons grade jinxing,if i ever manage to top fpl i am taking out a restraining order against ye. 😉

Clawed back a 28 point deficit today to win a ML by a point.

Bit disappointed finishing just outside the top 30k considering I was 16k at the restart but what can you do.

Cheers to all on here for the help and the early team news breaking allowing me to move Salah to Bruno and Nketiah to Ings at 14.59 this afternoon.

Captaining him in the form of his life against AVL at home seemed a decent differential given I was chasing a 35 point lead. Him getting a yellow for falling into a player who didn’t have the ball and then being taken off at HT is a bit more mental I’d say

The Salah benching must have been an absolute sickened for anyone having something riding on their final league position.

KDB hauling and Salah getting a 1 pointer is the ultimate example of just sometimes how you have to swallow the luck and "non luck" of FPL

Luck is more when your triple captain gets injured in the first game of a DGW.
Liverpool had nothing to play for and Salah could have always been benched to let others play.

It's not purely "non luck" for triple captaining Salah in the final week. It's a mistake from my view.

Martial vs Rashford felt like such a 50/50 call back in GW31.

Since then, Martial 76 points vs Rashford 41 points...

Bruno 70 points & Greenwood 49 points in the same period.

Right? And I can’t imagine what the difference has been for Sterling vs Salah if you chose to go with just one.

It puts you in a tough place, balancing the idea that your pick will come good or biting the bullet to correct a decision that went out of your favor.

      1. Rainer
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

        Sterling 76 vs Salah 47.

A lot would have sold Salah in the 'wrong' week for his 18 point but since that game it was 10 points for Salah & 47 points for Sterling, not including his 10 points the week Salah got 18.

        Massive differences for tight calls.

Going with Perez & Barnes hualing, Mane Over Salah TC, getting salah v© instead of KDB like many & Lundstram 1st bench for Raz © vs Watford home.

Yeah the Perez vs Barnes ones are uncontrollable.

Mane TC still hurts but it wasn't a bad decision, just an unlucky outcome.

Raz C KDV VC Lund 1st sub was pure skill though 😉

2399 points overall, dropped 800 or so today but finished at 2508 OR. Not quite cracking the top 1k, but a new pb finish and second top 5k.

I've not taken a single hit all season! In 14 seasons of FPL I've now had nine top 30k finishes.

Don’t know if this is awful or not but I was shocked by this:

Possible Captain Points if you Always Captained Highest Gameweek Scorer : 1008

Total Actual Captain Points as % of Highest Possible Captain Points : 49.4%

No. of times captain has scored 0-6 pts: 15 (!)
