Vote for the best FPL forwards of 2019/20

We’re inviting you to vote on your favourite Fantasy forwards of 2019/20 as we continue to build our Team of the Season.

We previously asked for your opinion on the stand-out goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders of the season just gone, with those polls remaining open on the sidebar.

Now we run down the nominees in attack, with overall score, points per match and value all factors that entered our thinking.

While midfielders took home gold, silver and bronze in terms of Fantasy Premier League points, four FPL forwards did make the top ten.

There was plenty of value in the £6.0m-£9.0m bracket, too, which aided moves for the more expensive options in defence and midfield.

2018/19 TEAM OF THE SEASON REVIEW – FORWARDS

Aguero asking the question of non-owners as De Bruyne ticks over
  • Goalkeeper: Alisson
  • Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Matt Doherty
  • Midfielders: Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling, Ryan Fraser, Eden Hazard
  • Forwards: Raúl Jiménez, Sergio Aguero

Both of the forwards who made our Team of the Season in 2018/19 are again in the running this time, so we won’t delve too much into their campaigns here.

Suffice to say, the pair had contrasting seasons.

Raul Jimenez bettered his superb debut year as a budget striker, starting 37 of Wolves’ 38 games and finishing only six points off the magic 200-mark.

Sergio Aguero‘s season was littered by injuries, however, with the Argentinean making just 18 starts and six substitute appearances.

Despite that, he finished 2019/20 just one goal and one assist behind Jimenez.

2019/20 CANDIDATES

JAMIE VARDY

The Golden Boot winner and the highest-scoring Fantasy forward of 2019/20, Jamie Vardy plundered 30 attacking returns and 34 bonus points in the season just gone.

The Leicester City forward – whose starting price was a relative bargain £9.0m – was within one point of matching his highest-ever FPL score, too, which was set in the Foxes’ title-winning year of 2015/16.

His overall score was made all the more noteworthy considering that there were nine blanks and three no-shows from Gameweeks 19 to 32+, with a loss of fitness and form plaguing the second half of the campaign.

Four goals from Gameweeks 33+ to 35+ saw him over the line for the Golden Boot but most of the damage was done in the first half of the season.

From Gameweeks 3 to 18, Vardy found the back of the net on 17 occasions and set up a further five goals – a purple patch that conjured up memories of Luis Suarez’s astonishing 2013/14 campaign.

The long-serving striker averaged 8.6 points per match over this run of games, delivering six double-digit hauls and blanking on just three occasions.

From Gameweeks 9 to 18, he didn’t blank once.

A whopping 23 of his 30 attacking returns came against bottom-half clubs, which made him a relatively safe bet for the captaincy in plum fixtures.

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG

Matching his goal tally (22) and his FPL points total (205) from 2018/19, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang again did what he does best – score a hatful of goals without the fanfare or sky-high ownership levels of the premium midfielders.

Perhaps a positional reclassification next season will change the perception of the Gabon international, whose role on the left of Arsenal’s attack was no barrier to him finding the back of the net.

It’s because of his ‘inside-forward’ role under Mikel Arteta that he may be repackaged as an FPL midfielder in 2020/21 and, providing that he stays in the Premier League, his popularity may soar as a result.

Had the Fantasy position change happened in the summer of 2019, then he would have finished the season just gone as the third-highest-scoring FPL asset, ahead of Sadio Mane and Vardy.

Failing to start only one match that he was available for, Aubameyang never went more than three Gameweeks without a return.

Avoiding a blank in the opening seven Gameweeks, the Arsenal forward went on to rack up six double-digit hauls – all of them against bottom-half teams.

DANNY INGS

Danny Ings more than doubled his Premier League goals tally in one fell swoop in 2019/20, finding the back of the net on 22 occasions in a superb campaign for the Southampton striker.

Ings was only one goal away from a share of the Golden Boot, with his missed penalty in Gameweek 37+ proving costly.

The ex-Liverpool forward had started the season at a bargain £6.0m in FPL and even dropped in price in the opening two months, having been benched in half of Southampton’s first six fixtures.

His strike against Spurs in Gameweek 7 kickstarted his campaign and opened the floodgates, with another 12 goals arriving in the following 15 Gameweeks.

Owned by little more than 100,000 Fantasy managers ahead of that meeting with the Lilywhites, Ings finished the season in around 2.4 million squads and had risen in price by £1.6m – by some distance the biggest beginning-to-end price change in the game.

No other forward or indeed midfielder provided better value based on FPL’s points-per-million metric (26.7).

There were only three double-digit hauls over the course of the season but his consistency of returns more than made up for it, along with his league-best bonus points tally of 40.

MARCUS RASHFORD

Jamie Vardy (6.0) was the only FPL forward who averaged more points per match than Marcus Rashford (5.7) in the season just gone.

The Manchester United attacker smashed his previous personal best in FPL by almost 50 points in 2019/20, registering 17 goals, eight assists and 31 bonus points in 31 Premier League appearances.

Most of this came from the left flank, too, and he may be set for reclassification as an FPL midfielder in 2020/21 as a result.

It wasn’t just his returns but the reliability of starts, with Rashford lining up in every single Premier League match bar the seven that he was injured for.

The England international never went more than two appearances without a goal or assist, with five of his run-outs ending with double-digit hauls.

How much a loss (or reduced share) of penalty-taking duties affects him in 2020/21 remains to be seen, with Rashford finding the back of the net on six occasions from the spot last season.

He did win four of the six penalties he converted, however, so would have been given assist points had he not taken the spot-kicks himself.

RAUL JIMENEZ

Raul Jimenez was always going to struggle to emulate his impact in 2018/19, when he racked up 181 points from a starting price of just £5.5m.

While he was never going to offer the same value he provided in his debut Premier League campaign, he did score four more goals and 13 more FPL points this time around.

The Mexican, a bit like Ings, wasn’t too explosive, registering just three double-digit hauls – two of them against Manchester City – over the entirety of 2019/20.

But the points arrived on a regular basis, with his 24 attacking returns coming in 21 different games.

From Gameweeks 8 to 19, he blanked only twice.

Rotation was rarely a worry and no FPL forward started more games or played more minutes than Jimenez last season.

The Mexican started 37 of Wolves’ 38 Premier League fixtures, only being benched in Gameweek 20 when Nuno Espirito Santo’s side faced two matches in the space of 48 hours.

DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s achievements pale in comparison to those of Ings, with the mid-price forwards having both been priced up at £6.0m at the start of the season.

Ten successive blanks in the run-in also left a sour taste in the mouth, with the Everton striker unquestionably one of the biggest Fantasy flops after lockdown ended.

But Calvert-Lewin was a staple of many FPL squads following Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as Everton manager in December, scoring nine goals and setting up another in the ten Gameweeks following the Italian’s arrival.

Double-digit hauls against Newcastle and Crystal Palace were banked towards the start of 2020, with the Everton striker also bagging a brace against Chelsea under interim boss Duncan Ferguson in December.

Calvert-Lewin’s FPL price had dropped to £5.7m at the point of Marco Silva’s dismissal, so the 23-year-old forward was a real value pick when his form turned for the better.

TAMMY ABRAHAM

The final third of Tammy Abraham‘s campaign was something of a non-event, with the Chelsea striker making only two starts in the final 13 Gameweeks as injury and Olivier Giroud’s form saw him reduced to bit-part player status.

Thirteen goals, five assists and 20 bonus points had arrived from Gameweeks 3 to 25, however, with Abraham starting all but one of Chelsea’s league fixtures over that run.

The first three of those games were Abraham at his best, with the former Swansea City striker registering three successive double-digit hauls against Norwich, Sheffield United and Wolves.

The Blues’ number nine averaged 7.0 points per match from Gameweeks 8 to 15, meanwhile.

Ings (22) was the only FPL forward with a starting price of less than £7.5m who scored more goals than Abraham (15) last season.

SERGIO AGUERO

What's the best strategy for choosing forwards in FPL? 7

A total of 132 points was Sergio Aguero‘s lowest score since 2012/13 but there were mitigating circumstances.

Injuries saw him miss 12 league matches altogether, while Pep Guardiola’s rotation reduced him to just 18 starts.

Although 27 forwards registered more minutes than the Argentinean, only six of them scored more goals.

When we examine attacking returns per 90 minutes, Aguero (1.30) was by some distance the pick of the bunch among FPL strikers.

The long-serving Manchester City hitman started 2019/20 with a bang, playing a part in 11 goals in the first seven Gameweeks and not registering a single blank in the process.

Another purple patch arrived at the beginning of 2020, with six goals scored in the space of three Gameweeks – including a hat-trick against Aston Villa in January.

Positional rival Gabriel Jesus recorded exactly the same number of attacking returns as Aguero last season (22) but had over 500 more minutes of pitch-time.

MASON GREENWOOD

We ummed and ahhed about whether to include Mason Greenwood in this poll, given that almost half of his FPL points came after the June restart.

But 10 goals as a £4.5m forward deserves an honourable mention at the very least, especially as he found the back of the net on more occasions than the likes of Roberto Firmino, Callum Wilson and Diogo Jota.

Many Fantasy managers snapped him up for even less money that that, with his price dipping to £4.3m before his late-season purple patch.

Greenwood averaged 6.7 points per match in the final seven Gameweeks, hitting back-to-back double-digit hauls against Brighton and Bournemouth.

It’s important to acknowledge his contributions earlier in the season, too, even if it was merely appearance points as an emergency FPL substitute: the teenager played some part in 31 of United’s 38 games this season.

NOT QUITE MAKING THE CUT

using-the-top-10000-ownership-to-increase-your-fpl-rank-andys-article 8

Seven goals in Spurs’ final eight Premier League games almost earned Harry Kane a nomination but as we strive for a balance between the heavy hitters and more budget-friendly assets in this poll, the England striker ultimately didn’t make the cut.

Kane averaged fewer points per match (5.4) than fellow premium assets Vardy, Aguero and Aubameyang and finished a distant sixth among FPL forwards in terms of overall score (158).

A total of 18 goals scored was still a commendable achievement given his injury-enforced absence from Gameweeks 22 to 29, however.

Teemu Pukki‘s early-season accomplishments are fondly remembered but they seem like a distant memory now.

Over half of his 14 attacking returns arrived in the first five Gameweeks, with 25 blanks following in his subsequent 31 appearances.

using-the-top-10000-ownership-to-increase-your-fpl-rank-andys-article 7

Chris Wood was perhaps unfortunate to miss out, too.

Fourteen goals from a starting price of £6.5m was excellent but with the cheaper Ings and Calvert-Lewin doing the business and Abraham registering six more attacking returns for a little bit more money, the Kiwi striker was omitted from our final list.

A special mention for Jordan Ayew, too, whose exploits as a budget forward were overshadowed by Greenwood’s late-season returns.

The Palace striker started 37 league games from an initial price of £5.0m, finishing on the same number of FPL points as Aguero – albeit having recorded more than twice as many minutes of pitch-time.

Why don't you link your team? - I know it's not obligatory, but it definitely lends creedance. Fear of a cash ML rival seeing it?

Ah no it’s just one of those things - I’ll maybe look at getting it linked for next year though

But for example, I was 2.2m before GW10 this year, and knew I could pull it back, but some of the moves I was making were blowing up in my face & knew the added negative feedback of luminaries such as FG wouldn’t exactly be helpful in that type of situation

But equally it’s also something we do all have to deal with I suppose

Woke up this morning with a eureka moment that starting with Triple Pool defence, Laporte & Doherty would be good for GW1for example - do you know how much outrage that would cause on here?

And you could quadruple that type of negativity at the first hint of it failing too

A lot of the mistakes stem from him.

Even if a goal is not directly his fault. A keeper’s presence and command of the defence in front of him is vital.

Pickford can sometimes be a decent shot stopper but he’s so poor in so many other key areas.

Absolutely amazes me he’s still England’s number 1. That has to change if England have any real ambition of winning a tournament.

I don't think it's just his FPL success, it's the fact that he's one of the most talented chess players of all time as well. I've been following his matches since 2016 and I often think he's the chess equivalent of Messi and Ronaldo combined. The fact that he succeeds in FPL on top of that is fascinating.

A few days ago I looked into the career penalty records of various PL players. Jimenez, Haller and Fabinho emerged as the three best (which was guessed correctly by someone) out of players who have taken at least 20 spot kicks.

But there were also two players to have taken at least 10 penalties who have never missed. Who are they? (no cheating!)

Ah, sorry - should've specified active players. (i.e. who have played at least a few minutes in the league last year)

Le Tissier all time of course - which is an amazing record given that he took 27 and never missed!

Honourable mentions to Jordan Ayew (9 of 9), Andros Townsend (8 of 8), Lucas Moura (7 of 7) and Junior Stanislas (6 of 6).

There must be others who have never missed but they certainly haven't taken anywhere near enough penalties to be on the list.

Players should not be priced based on injury records, but on how they perform when not injured

      1. 3 A

Maybe we can agree to disagree. They should lower his price cause Kun lose his penalty duties too.

Someone quite at the same age like him fit and won the Golden Boot when he is just 10mil (starting at 9!) Maybe 11 next season.

        Unfit striker should be less.

But its not a big deal. I still can reseve some spot for Kun no matter what. Can 'rotate' with Vardy, Werner or Kane if I want . Cheers

Benteke as mentioned above is just a little bit better with 12 of 19, and City have a third player in the bottom five with Fernandinho at 11 of 17!

Someone who probably won't be allowed to take enough penalties to match Jesus' record is Sadio Mane, who has scored 2 and missed 4 in his career! (Firmino isn't great either, with 5 of 9).

It is a team/manager issue. That's why if Pope or Henderson were to sign for Chelsea, I wouldn't look at them.

          Agreed

Pope and Chilwell are upgrades but they’ve done well for managers and teams with some - or a lot of - defensive nous. I’d need to see a fair bit before investing there - really don’t think the Kepa stats tell the story

    2. goriuanx

Which is why their pursuit for big money attackers is questionable. No doubt Havertz is a world class talent, but signing him is presumably at the expense of a reliable GK, CB and LB.

You would think conceding as many as they did from set pieces is more about coaching than it is about personnel. They would do well to upgrade that backline though.

    Anyone playing FanTeam this year?

Game is already open. Basically same rules as FPL. €25 to enter. €1,000,000 prizepool.

    RMT?

    Pickford (4.5) Nyland (4.0)
    TAA (7.5) VvD (6.0) Tierney (5.0) Mari (4.0) White (4.0)
    KdB (12.5) Salah (12.5) Sterling (11.0) Ziyech (8.5) Soucek (4.5)
    Antonio (6.5) Adams (5.5) Hirst (4.0)

Some generous prices in this game. Soucek at 4.5m is a ridiculous steal. It also has some weird bonus points like +1 for your team winning the game when you're on the field. And +1 if you're a mid or forward who plays the full 90mins.

Got a team for the first time this year too. Agree because the rules are quite similar it shouldn't be too difficult to manage two teams.

My current team has a very similar setup to yours. Cheap up top, pretty much exact same midfield and Liv defence. Not sure about Pickford but reasonably priced. I'm not sure about having no Man Utd, but then you can't have them all...

Pickford is the best 4.5m keeper.

One of the fun things to do in FanTeam is to compare to FPL and pick players that are cheaper than FPL. I think FPL towers are better at pricing players, so could be a nice easy way to spot bargains.

Soucek at 4.5m is ludicrous value. And Pickford would never be 4.5m either in FPL.

Assuming that TAA, Robbo, VVD and Doc will be the 4 highest scoring defenders, who will be 5th? I’m thinking about going big at the back with KDB. Rest of mids / strikers around the 5.5 - 6.5 range

The idea is for my LIV 3 to play every game and only play doc and the other premium defender when they have strong / half decent fixtures. Likely be 4 at the back most gw with a number of rotating mids / forwards coming in and out of my 1st 11.

You won't bench 6.5m Doherty. Bench defenders want to be priced 4.5, maybe up to 5m for a Wolves or Burnley lesser light.

Depends on a lot of factors. I had my best ever season (by far) when I started with 4 premium defenders in a 4-4-2 and never even transferring any of them out until about halfway through the season.

I did the same thing last year with a 4-5-1 but Liverpool were awful at the whole clean sheets thing so it backfired. Could go either way.

I can't remember if that was the case at the end of previous seasons, or it is actually a sing that game is being updated/prepared.

If you knew in advance Liverpool were going to have the most clean sheets in a season, would it be viable to triple up on their defense? The answer is an equivocal no. 20 or so clean sheets is great but tying up 20 mil of your budget when you could get better points per million by going cheepies (16 clean sheets from Sheffield United say), you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that. Add the fact rotating for fixture and Home/Away adds to the argument. Liverpool have great attacking options too and the method would restrict you dramatically.

A lot of us had spare cash this year due to the likes of Ludstrum and Greenwood playing a part in our sides. My guess is this is unlikely to happen at the same level again. We are going to need every penny to get big hitters this year until such time the gems show themselves.

So often, outside captaincy picks, the defenders contribute or negatively affect your season. It is not where the most points are available but the advantage you gain by getting defenders right have a material impact on OR.

Until prices are revealed, we cannot possibly calculate what the best formation is and even then the old method of choosing a balanced side in terms of formation must be the way to go.

TAA for 7m got 210 points, Robbo 181 and VVD for 6.5 178 points. In terms of value 26-27.
No midfielder or forwards matched any of them in terms of value and only 9 beat VVD's raw points total - most of them priced 10m+, with the exceptions who got marginally more points being Ings and Jimenez who were unfancies at the beginning, being owned by just over 10K each.

So I don't accept your analysis at all.

You don't have to. But you are looking at 3 at the back being Pool, You would have pulled your hair out by GW17. It is not a case of accepting my analysis, because it is fact. If TAA for instance gets points outside of clean sheets then fair enough (I had him season long). But all 3 is so restrictive. It would mean no Salah or Mane who also were top of the charts for mids and you would never see the benefit and be severely restrictive.
Fair do's though, I hear your argument.

If I knew in advance that Liverpool would have 20 clean sheets, yes, I'd triple up. The only reason not to triple up, in that case, would be if Salah/Mane were having 250+ seasons and I needed one to captain. Otherwise, ~600 points for 21-22m? Yes, I'll have that, thanks

      1. Eze Really?
        • 9 Years

Unfortunately it does not work like that. Salah/Mane Captains stop it a little. Also, could you handle 2 cleanies in 17 like last year? I would have bottled it, keeping TAA.

If they were *guaranteed* 20 clean sheets, 2 in the first 17 would mean mean 18 in the next 21... So I'd probably just stick with them throughout!

Even without the guarantee, I'm considering tripling on Liv defence. Why? Because I don't think a repeat of the slow CS start is likely, because the defenders have enough attacking threat that even when they put in a poor defensive performance you have a pretty good chance of getting returns, because even if a couple of other stellar defensive options rear their heads there's nothing stopping me going 532/541, and because, while you make a good point with respect to Salah and Mane (and I probably will start with Salah, TAA and Robbo rather than the triple defence, primarily because of captaincy), there are other midfield options who I think will score similarly well to Salah and Mane (KDB, Sterling, Bruno and, if reclassified, Auba and Rash) which means going without those two isn't necessarily a recipe for disaster

            • 9 Years

Your first sentence says it all. The big issue is you would have given up on the triple a long time before GW 18. Fundamentally, a triple up in defense or a Mane / Salah in your mids messes your structure up either way.

Not in the scenario you posited where they were guaranteed the most clean sheets in the league.

In a real scenario, if I start with a defensive triple up and they only get 2 CS in the first 10 games, say, I probably would change strategy. But I think it's more likely that Liverpool start this season more defensively strong than they started last season and that 4 or 5 CS in the first 10 games is more likely than 2 CS. In which case - why would a triple up be a bad strategy?

Your whole argument is predicated on Liverpool keeping as few CS at the start of this season as they did last season - without any convincing evidence as to why we should expect this to happen

No problem with the conversation but the most clean sheets can mean 1 or 2 more than others that will have far cheaper options. The 2 scenarios are different but intertwined. So let us ignore the spread of clean sheets. Also ignore attacking returns too, so the field is level. 20 cleanies spending 21 mil compared to 18 cleanies spending 16 mil. Not sure the extra 8 points are worth it. Having said that TAA gets a lot more than clean sheets and the other 2 get their share too. Can they make up the price differential and be worth closing out attacking Pool options? Am I explaining myself badly?
As soon as we get into "what we think they will do" is a whole different argument. The reason aI pointed out the clean sheet spread is there are other influences that could curse the decision. (Pool got 15 Clean sheets anyway)

I see your point about the relative returns and relative prices (say the pros and cons of owning VVD vs Baldock this season) - but, as I said before, there's nothing stopping you having a back 5 with 3 Liverpool premiums and 2 great value cheaper options if all of them are providing great value for money. And if the Liverpool defenders are priced at 7.5m or lower and delivering returns of 180+ points, they'll almost certainly be delivering better returns than almost all midfielders and attackers in a similar bracket, and therefore be great value (and, to reiterate, they don't have to stop you from picking 2 other great value defenders)!

Also, we can't really ignore attacking returns when we're talking about players who got as many attacking returns as TAA, Robbo and VVD - it's a huge part of their appeal, and all the more appealing because it's only part of their appeal, added to their clean sheet potential. TAA got 19 attacking returns, Robbo got 14 - only KDB got more assists than TAA, with Mahrez and Son being the only 2 other players with more assists than Robbo. The potential at both ends is significant

There is a downside to the assists, I guess, if you triple up on the defence, insofar as they'll probably be assisting Mane and Salah more often than not, and you'll be missing out on their goals. But still, if you can fit the following into a squad: TAA, Robbo, VVD and 2 out of Bruno, KDB, Sterling - I think you can justify playing 4 or 5 at the back, and that it could make up for the lack of Mane or Salah - you've got 5 players in your squad with genuine 200+ point potential.

My current draft concept has the 3 Reds defenders and 2 4m benchies - no need for playing budget sorts as all 3 are likely to play all games early in the campaign.
In mid I'd have KDB and Bruno as my only 10m+ premiums and alternate the armband with them. That should allow mid-price options in other midfield and forward slots.

Salah 132 shots and 110 shots in the box.

By comparison, Mane managed 77 shots and 64 shots inside the penalty area.

That is a massive difference. Salah is going to get 30+ goals again next season 😀

Sh*t finishers do not average 24 goals in their last 3 seasons.

Plus 132 shots will give them the opportunity to score more than others.

Get ready for a return of points of Salah's 1st season for 20/21. 30+ goals on the cards again.

He is hungry and LFC will be defending their title.

He had chances last season too.

          I'm not saying he won't score 30+
But chances of him being same to this season are high too. I have seen him hitting them ins stands way too many times when Mane on other side tracks back, do hard work for team & getting 1/2 chances per game & scoring with one of them

Of i had to bet one of them to score it'd be Mane.
But now with other big hitters also in the game unlike monopoly of Pool City boys I don't see necessary to get Salah/Mane at all !

OK. I included his Roma seasons to emphasise that (contrary to popular belief) he has normally outperformed his xG over his career. Time will tell whether last season is the start of a trend or an aberration.

Its from the website. FPL website.

Well. Salah have many chances but Mane is better finisher.

They should price Mane 0.5 cheaper.

        Last season it is 1mil.

And both of them should not be at the same price. Salah somestimes play as no 9.

I love Mane more because he is humble and not greedy but in fantasy, Salah worth extra 0.5

Those shots in the box stats highlight why Salah should be classified as a forward in FPL.

Do the same comparison for Martial vs Rashford, Sterling vs Mahrez, Kane vs Son, DCL vs Richarlison, and Aubameyang. BUT adjust for minutes played. So do SITB per min and multiply by 90 to get SITB per 90 mins.

Will be pretty clear who the forwards are and who the mids are.

      1. Bobby Reds
        • 13 Years
        3 years, 7 months ago

Just because some takes a lot of shots in the box that does not make them a forward.

It just means Salah is a very good winger.

I dont understand why so many people on this site dont understand this.

        1. diesel001
          • 7 Years
          3 years, 7 months ago

It means they are playing a shooting role. Which means they are a forward for FPL purposes.

Is Sterling a better player than Mane? No. But Sterling has significantly more SITB than Mane.

The issue is more that people are trying to impose real life football positions into a fixed system in FPL. FPL has three classifications for outfield players - DF, MF, FW. In real life you can be a wide winger, an inside winger, a playmaking forward, a striker, a wide midfielder, a central midfield, a central attacking midfielder etc. There are literally hundreds of roles. But FPL does not distinguish between roles - it has three positions - DF, MF, FW.

The best way to get FWDs for FPL purposes is to look at their SITB.

People getting worked up again pre season with Mane vs Salah debate. Just like last season.

I owned Salah for wk 1 when he scored12(24) and Mane scored 1 pt. Then I sold Salah for Mane on a WC for the next 18 weeks when Salah scored 95 pts and Mane...120 pts. Then Bought Salah back for a TC success of 48 pts when Mane scored 1.

Look at LR. Never captain Kdb(who people rate as ''essential'') even once.

I had 2 Pool defenders early on and bottled it just to keep TAA; and I was close to moving him too. I had Salah a large part of the season because I had KDB that worked too. getting a third of total points or more it is worth discussion for sure.

I have no problem that Livp fans love Salah & Mane. They should. Just saying that there is no place for sentiment in FPL I just pointed out that Mane outscored Salah in wks 2-19 by 25 pts, for 1m less. You cant argue with that.(Many did on here last season while it was happening)

Everyone plays FPL his own way - by all means get Salah and stick to him(or sell him). I just dont get people trying to convince others about these debates on here.

Yep. It'd be fun to see BMW (adding Mbeumo) all together in the PL, though. And it'd be a shame if Benrahma went to Chelsea, for example, where his minutes would likely be too inconsistent for him to be an interesting FPL option, and also add question marks over Pulisic. I'd much rather have Benrahma as a talisman lower down the table!

Why would it not be wise to have both together when both usually score 200+? Are there many better options than both in midfield other than KDB or Bruno maybe? Just curious. Cheers

But they should be there or thereabouts the same as other premiums with little difference in prices with pretty much guaranteed 200+ returns I would say?

In itself, not a bad strategy - but then you can only have 1 Liverpool defender, and will struggle to afford other premium options you might want (KDB, Sterling, Bruno, midfield Auba?, etc)

Yeah I suppose but I was just thinking as both are usually one of the top PL midfielders in FPL points and you can pretty much bank on them as reliable FPL assets?

I want to do it as owning them both together was my favorite part of last season, but it depends on the prices of other players, of course.

Yeah it’s something I also wanted to do this season...

Would rather double on KdB and Sterling. They'll be slightly cheaper and I fancy City to be the title favorites next year.

Little bit more rotation risk would you say with City assets than Liverpool though?

My reasoning is this: I don't want any defenders from City or United (or Chelsea or Arsenal), but I do want defenders from Liverpool.
There are plenty premium midfield options from United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal (if Auba).
So for me, it makes sense to go Liverpool heavy at the back and United/City heavy in midfield.

In this instance, what would be your preferred, initial Liverpool defender pairing if the prices are to be what you believe they’d be?

I've been putting the case for the last week that I'm intending to have all 3.

Auba is the elephant in the room. I know his ability, even from Bundersliga days. He scores more or less how he has been valued, I rate him as special, but I always bottle it getting him in. A midfield pos will change my mind though. I will consider Laporte though.

Same. Not particularly worried about the odd rotation. City are by far the best attacking team in the league.

Just feel like with City, the attacking returns can be a bit more diverse with so many quality attackers and midfield whereas with Liverpool, you’d probably like to think Salah and Mane will most often be the centre of returns

I'm honestly considering going with neither.

Did it for a while but the truth is TAA & Robbo would have been better, on all measures.

I would only own Salah to captain in home matches.

With the likes of KDB, Bruno, Aub and even Martial or Rashford at home I will be going without him

*The defenders are also Capable scoring 200+ (only Trent this season)

Not sure but will most likely double up on their defence, Trent + Rob/VVD.
And might go with or without a Liv mid.

          Much depends on fixtures etc.

Is a Liverpool mid really essential? Salah and Mane will be up there with the top scorers in the game I expect but are they better picks than KDB, Sterling and Bruno? Aubameyang and Rashford could be better value if they're moved to midfield as well.

Very little is essential, but it helps to have the top scorers in the game part of your team. I had KDB Martial Bruno and still found space for Salah most Weeks.

Yes but KDB, Martial and Bruno will all be much more expensive next season. It won't be as easy to find space for Salah.

I am willing to wager you will have one of Mane/Salah GW1

I also doubt Martial will be that more expensive. His pos will probably change

They are really good, reliable cap options in those easy fixtures. Maybe not essential but they do the heavy lifting when you come to tot-up who were good caps, at the end of the season.

If we start looking at Taa as a © option often, maybe not needed.

Don't think Real will get past City. Atletico would be great for Simeone. I'd love Atalanta to win it, but most likely Bayern, I think
