Allsvenskan Fantasy

Fantasy Allsvenskan GW14 Pre-match Preamble

Three Gameweeks away from a more normal schedule (well, potentially not for the clubs qualifying for Europe), I find myself getting more and more invested in the game, as a stark contrast to the feelings of tiredness and borderline boredom that accompanied the first nine Gameweeks of the season. After a nice boost from a Park The Bus chip deployed in Gameweek 10, I’ve taken a number of punts with varied success, for every Jo Inge Berget, there’s been a Nabil Bahoui. What I think I’ve accidentally stumbled upon lately though is the xFun factor, where playing to your own strengths and not being too caught up in the metagame around it all leads to a much more enjoyable experience, regardless of the actual outcome.

For some like myself, that includes taking frequent hits and chasing upside players, something generally frowned upon in the community. For others, it’s sticking with a carefully laid out strategic plan, avoiding hits and seeing that patience eventually pay off. There are managers who get their kicks from going in heavy on the club they support, avoiding rival clubs’ players despite their fantasy prospects. There are those who avoid players that they’ve been burned by in the past, and those who keep returning to underperforming players based on nostalgia and a vague hope of them rediscovering their form of yesteryear… And that’s just scratching the surface of different kinds of fantasy managers, but I think it’s important to remember why we’re in it in the end – to have fun. Fantasy football is a distraction from a life and a world that’s increasingly complex and tough, and we sometimes need to take a step back and try to enjoy both the roughs and the smooths, the incredible Gameweeks where everything goes your way, and the bad ones, where rotation hits and you struggle to field 11 players.

Fantasy football is, for all of us here in this small community, a big part of life and for some, it’s a way of living and a very time-consuming devotion. For others, it’s just a cherry on the cake, the additional spice in an already superbly tasting cocktail, and the inevitable backhand to the face when it proverbially hits the fan. It’s a game about a game and we’re all rolling the dice each week, taking our best stab at being on the right side of luck and probability – which is part of the attraction. Beating the odds, proving to ourselves and others that we “know what we’re doing”, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. I think the problem stems from not realising that we can make the best calls possible with the information at hand, and still be on the wrong side of it though.

That’s why it’s so nice to have a group of likeminded people to discuss with and both gather and contribute information to about players and teams, about transfer thoughts, captains and chip-plans. As long as you play your own game and try to remember what brought you to fantasy football in the first place, what makes you happy and content with a Gameweek or a season – plenty of points is a perfectly acceptable answer to that, though it’s not really in your hands even if you can make it more or less likely.

Taking all of this into account, I intend to let the xFun factor dictate a lot more this season and see how it pans out. Maybe it leads to a good rank, maybe it doesn’t. Regardless, I expect I’ll be a lot more relaxed, happy, and able to enjoy the game for what it is – rather than what I want it to be.

Cheers Meltens, it's a really good point you make and not one that is just limited to Fantasy Allsvenskan. We plan and we plan and we plan only for probability to decide the outcome, and yet we forget the point was to have fun.

Additionally, the latest set of Allsvenskan Scout picks are up on the main website, always worth a read!

Thanks yeah it’s something that has started to dawn upon me really since the restart of football in June, we have so little control of the outcome and most of us put in quite a bit of time into this, it doesn’t make sense to not find ways to make sure it’s enjoyable for the most part - regardless of the pay off in points!

Not playing this game but great article.

I'm definitely concentrating on fun and doing my own thing and treating OR as a happy or unhappy byproduct of what comes to pass. Helps perhaps to be a born contrarian in love with the counterintuitive and someone who is never happier than when chasing a lead!

      Thanks mate, much appreciated! 🙂

Maybe give Allsvenskan a try next season? 🙂
We have plenty here who are new to it and don’t watch the games, it’s a great (albeit small) community and we help each other out when possible.

Did Eliteserien last season and had great fun - would have done this time but got depressed around lockdown and didn't care much either way.

Always next season as you say. Thinks positive 🙂

Thanks, Meltens! This is a great article and one that should be seen by more people, it actually deserves a great place among other articles about the psychological side of the game.

That being said, I'm afraid I was a bit misunderstood by you about taking hits and want to say that I was not criticizing you 🙂 I took a few of them in FPL last season too.

Just copying this comment from the previous article:
    ---
I'm also wondering about Vecchia. Hopefully, we get Häcken lineups so I can act accordingly with Wålemark.

I was wondering who would be the best option to replace Kacaniklic. I was thinking Levi but Sofascore says he was replaced because he was injured? He has amazing stats per 90 minutes but minutes are the issue. The obvious choice is Sugita with short-term fixtures. Already maxed on Djurgården so Ulvestad is not an option. Bahoui - not sure.

Not really interested in Irandust but maybe I should be, with those next three fixtures.

Thanks as always for the kind words Göktuğ! 🙂
Haha no worries, I didn’t take it as criticism at all this is more of a general thought experiment about playing to our own strengths, enjoying this game for what it is and not being too caught up in playing it perfectly 🙂

As for Kacaniklic I’m backing Bahoui big time but that might be a bit too soon, not sure. Think he could play striker alongside Goitom with Abraham out, even if he doesn’t I still rate him.

Sugita also a great option which leaves a bit more in the bank to possibly replace Abraham if he’s a long term issue. Good luck!

Dilemma for the gameweek: will Vecchia play this GW? Could transfer him out for Sugita if not. Also thinking about replacing Widgren; is Björnström a good replacement?

Also, I have the WC yet to be played. Should I use it this GW, or the next? With two FTs I might get away with waiting one more GW, but it's always tempting to sort out a few issues in the team.

    Bråtveit
    Witry – Ahmedhodic – Lauritsen – Widgren
    Vecchia – Christiansen – Haksabanovic
    Karlsson – Abraham – Nyman
    (Nilsson – Väisänen – Jansson – Löfquist)

Save the wildcard til next round, when you have more time to tinker with it. Widgren to Björnström looks like an excellent move both short term and long term. With Abraham out, I'd start Väisänen, and also start Vecchia and hope for minutes there. Move Löfquist to first sub so that he'll come in if Vecchia's out.

Yes, saving the WC would be preferable, as I haven't really given it much though (I actually forgot I hadn't played it!). I'm tempted to transfer out Abraham with my second FT (instead of doing Vecchia > Sugita), but I don't really see any replacement around that price I'd want to spend a transfer on.

I know, there are few players at the same price bracket as Abraham, so don't use the transfer unless you can get something good out of it. Transfers shouldn't be made unless it's necessary IMO, since a transfer could cost you in the OR.

Indeed. Looking through the list of strikers, the only ones I'm tempted by are a few price bracket above Abraham anyway. I got 2.4 in the bank though, so I could do Abraham to Ludwigson or Frick, for example.

No idea on Vecchia but I'm using it next week. If you have 2FT would def wait a week

If I only had one FT I would likely have played it this GW, but as I have two FTs I prefer to save it for next GW. There are a few issues of course, but maybe not enough to do a team overhaul for.

Quite possibly but then it's back to weekend games only (exc european stuff), so get a chance to build a squad to better cover it. I don't mind too much if popular picks are rested as that affects everyone.

Thanks! Weekend games (mostly), makes it easier to settle on a WC team for sure. Think I'll avoid tripling up on Malmö assets though, as we'll have to expect some rotation there.

An very important article, Meltens. Thank you very much for writing it! Having gone through a stressful campaign this latest fpl season, which led to me rage-quitting mid sesason, I am very aware what impact this type of games can have on mental health (as a side-note, I am glad I did not play any money-leagues - the stress-levels would have been leveraged).

I fully agree this is a game to be played for fun and banter; one that hopefully adds some spice to following the matches. It is helpful to realize that, after all research, and all team selections, line ups, starting players are done and dusted, the outcome is beyond our hands. It also helps to realize that variance can affect a result; ultimately, this is a game of probabilities. In the long run, a players potential in statistical terms will (likely) be realized. In the short run, we are left to chance (to a considerable degree).

However, there is one key element that I would like to draw this community's attention if the producers and leagues want to help maintain mental health and keep the game fun. They should move the deadline to make transfers to the moment the first match of the game week is scheduled to kick-off. Second-guessing line-ups, looking for leaks (which in itself is ripe with fake-news and misdirection) before deadline increases stress-levels significantly, and may cast a gloomy shadow over the appreciation of the game week.

As an example, this very game-week I was eagerly following information on whether or not Irandust would start; he was rumoured to be benched and the team-sheet to be revealed ten or so minutes before kick off (which has happened before). Had I known beforehand if he would have started, I would have made the decision to transfer him, having kept a transfer in the event of a non-start.

Fantasy Bundesliga seem to have taken this into consideration, by allowing its players to do what I have described above, namely to allow transfers after team-sheets have been published and allowing transfer right until kick off. This has been a very positive experience, in my opinion, having tried out Fantasy Bundesliga for the first time.

This move would, crucially, also lead to managers to make more informed decisions. In the end, it is much more easier to accept an outcome, and to enhance the enjoyment of the game, if one has been able to have made on choice within the realms of what is reasonable to have a say on.

Sorry if this turned out to be rant. I truly hope this provides some food for thought!

                  Thanks a bunch! 🙂
Felt good writing it and hopefully it can help some others take a step back as well and rediscover the fun aspect of the game, not just when it pans out for them.

I’ve seen the whole leaked lineups debate recently and I don’t feel super strongly either way, what I can say from personal experience is that I share your concerns over the stress regarding leaked lineups. It leads to me being completely asocial in the ten minutes prior to deadline which isn’t great, just refreshing Twitter and considering late moves. In that sense, I’d also prefer if they do it like the Bundesliga and let the deadline be just ahead of the first games starting, to allow informed decisions and reduce the stress of it all. If the servers can’t handle it, maybe 5-15
                  minutes to allow updates.

I completely agree that the last minutes before deadline is very stressful. Allowing people to change the line-up until the game starts could help that, but would also like clubs to be forced to publish theire line-ups let's say 65 minutes before the game starts. As it is now, you have to constantly update the clubs twitter since some clubs sometimes publish the line-up early, and sometimes not (and some clubs don't publish it at all). I would also like for clubs to have a press conference before the game, or at least a Q&A on the website where they can share relevent information. And for match squads to be published 24 hours before kick off.

I agree, Bob. Team should become more transparent and specific in regards to injuries and press conferences, in addition to line-ups. Allsvenskan has much to learn from American sports, and the Premier League.

                      And I disagree completely.
Can’t see one single reason for teams to inform opposition about anything and that’s essentially what they are doing.
I just think it’s plain stupid of the teams that do so.
But then again, my approach to fantasy games are laidback.

I often think this. Ok it doesn't help for fantasy but if I was a manager I'd say nothing about injuries

The information released by clubs on press conferences for example is not directed towards the opposition, or fantasy players eighter for that matter. It's to release relevant information to the media, which they can forward to the fans who are eagerly waiting to hear how things are with theire favourite club. If Manchester United play Chelsea and Solskjaer says the day before the game that "Pogba is injuried", that information is not mainly directed to Chelsea or the 6 million people playing FPL, but the 100+ million people in the world supporting the club. If clubs don't share information with media/fans, the support will decrease, and in the end vanish.

It's done in Premier League, Champions League and the World cup, so there are obviously many good reasons to do it, and it's not less relevent in Allsvenskan. As it is now, the clubs in Allsvenskan are not shy to share the information, there's just no structure in it. I think few teams would refuse to give out info if they were asked to, the problem is that no one is asking them to do so today.

Nice post. I do think FPL should move the deadlines one way or another. I’d personally prefer it to be moved closer to KO, but can see arguments both ways.

To pick up on long run vs short run - the ‘long run’ in FPL is a hell of a lot longer than people think IMO. When I hear things like ‘luck evens out over the course of a season’ it always makes me chuckle.

                  Thanks for the article Meltens!

I wish I could take this game less seriously, and have more fun, but it's difficult. I was able to do so for the first version of the game in 2015. Since then, things have been going very well for me, which have made it possible for me to actually compete for top places, and that have changed my attitude to become much more serious (and taking some of the fun out of it).

In the beginning, there were rather few people playing, and not that many who really put an effort into it. Information has always been rather difficult to reach, so working hard with that has often payed off for me. Nowadays, there are almost 30 000 players and the competition is much tougher, with more players doing more research and getting more information. This to me is very different from FPL where all the information is available for everyone all the time, and it's more about making the right decisions. This was my first season in 12 years not playing FPL, and that has defenitly made fantasy less stressful for me, and has allowed me to focus more on Allsvenskan.

Found myself in a sitation with two non-playing goalkeepers, so after reading Bob's reply about Sirius' Jonsson being dropped, I transferred him to Rasheed five minutes before the deadline as he looked like the most sensible pick for a clean sheet this gameweek, lol.

How on earth does the best defence in home matches lose 2-0 to bottom-dwellers Kalmar?! Not getting too frustrated about it. The outcome may not be what I had hoped for, but the decision was the right one. Impressive to still see him bag 5 points courtesy of 7 saves and 2 defensive bonus.

Really glad with my call to bring in Berget in midweek. It's something I normally wouldn't have done with him being a 'rotation risk'. Since then, I handed him the captaincy for his 11-pointer - making it 22 for a player owned by 3% at the time - and now another 9 points in midfield. I did put the armband on Haksa given his rest and good fixture, so fingers crossed for a double figure haul. 🙂

Now I'm back from the drawing board with new plans for my "Attack" chip in GW17 :). As much as I'd love to have IKT, especially rested after a supsension, I just can't afford him since I'm reluctant to remove any of my expensive defenders who perform so well. So, which option looks better?

                    A) Stick with my structure and play Paulos Abraham (Helsingborg h), asuming he's fit.

                    B) Swap Paolos Abraham for Ludwigsson (Sirius a). Hammarby have decent fixtures after that game as well. To afford Ludwigsson I'd have to free up cash by doing eighter Witry --> 4.9 defender or Irandust --> 6.4 midfielder (possibly Ogbu).

                    Any thoughts are appriciated. Thanks!

I don't like selling Witry but Irandust out makes more sense. Ogbu with Djurgården (a) and Malmö (H) though, as well as being one YC away from a suspension. If going with Abraham on the attack chip I think I'd like to time in a week where we get the lineups pre-deadline but that's just me. Otherwise it seems like a good enough week to go with him if fit 🙂

Thanks Meltens! The Ogbu/Ludwigsson transfer would be from GW17, and from then Mjällby actually have pretty decent fixtures. Suspension is always ans issue, but at this stage there are so many players in the risk zone that it's hard to add that as a factor. Chip will be played in GW17 so I wont have any AIK line-up available, and now he's injuried. Guess I'll have to monitor his fitness until then. At least I'll be able to do the switch only using my 2FT for GW17.

So it seems like I have to use my WC this week. My team is pretty good though so I'm struggling to figure out how to approach it. Any suggestions on who I should target?

Malmö, Djurgarden, Elfsborg, AIK, Sirius, Norkopping (and even kalmar) look like the teams with best fixtures.

Who would be your essentials and who would be some differentials perhaps that you'd look to?

Even if you're overall satisfied with your team, at least you could try to make enough transfers to make the wildcard active. That way you can get a few transfers done which doesn't count on your "transfers made" total. I keep repeating that not using transfers can also be a way of climbing the ranks, since players with the same overall score is ranked by fewest transfers made.

One advice from me would be not to look too much on the fixtures. I usually do that, and did so from the start, which made me go completely without Norrköping coverage for the first 3 games. I'm still behind because of that. It's difficult for me to recommend players without it just being me listing my own team, but there are some players who are essential IMO.

Players like Lauritsen, AC and Haksabanovic will keep delivering throughout the season, and with theire heavy ownership I think they are "must haves". I also have some personal favourites like Johan Larsson and Stefano Vecchia. People don't seem to understand just how good they are, with theire ownership still being under 15%. I dare to say that Larsson is better than ex. Witry, both as a player and as a fantasy option, and Vecchia is just as good as any of the top midfielders like Irandust for example. I also like the form of Sugita and Jesper Karlsson. Might be boring suggestions, but the stats and tables doesn't lie.

Teams to go for at this stage is Malmö (although rotation is an issue), Elfsborg, Sirius and Norrköping (despite theire lack of form). Varberg with Norlin and Selmani could also be intresting, they have a fixture swing coming up, as do Mjällby with Löfquist, Ogbu and Moro. Djurgården is also a solid option, while Hammarby and Göteborg's got decent fixtures coming up, but lack form right now.

I wouldn't go near AIK at the moment, or Örebro, Kalmar, Helsingborg or Östersund for the rest of the season.

Thanks for such a detailed reply! The reason I'm struggling most is because I'm top 200 and this is my first season. Nose bleed territory hahaha

Vecchia is definitely coming in based on today yep. I've included a lot of those that you mentioned already so nice to see we're thinking along the same lines. I've built a very good WC team now imo but it's benching headaches galore

                          Bratveit, 4.0

I'm wildcarding and not making many changes. Squad will be pretty similar to that.
Main dilemma is GK. Hagg has been good value for the price. Not sure about the Ogbu/Soderlund/Selmani spots. Wouldn't mind keeping AC but undecided right now, esp with rotation. Considering Ludwigson. Was thinking about holding Abraham but Selmani just changed my mind. Decent bench option even if don't start him.

I actually sold hagg this week for Rasheed as part of a (-4) having had him all season lol. Didn't expect it to turn out that way. I want to move to Bratveit because Kalmar just feel too unpredictable.

Those 3 spots are the uncertain ones in my squad, yes. I like obu and seljmani though as they look good value and have good fixtures coming up but equally are benchable atm.

I could find a way too keep AC but I'm not sure I like him in his recent deeper role. Plus he's suspended next gw. If I were to do it it'd probably be by downgrading Soderlund to a really cheap option and upgrading ogbu to AC. Not sure that's a better option tbh.

Thats an amazing achievment! I didn't know you had such a great rank, if I knew I would have suggested rubbish players instead ;).

The wildcard team looks excellent! Can't really say anything els since it's so close to my own. Going without AC could be risky, but you still got good coverage overall, and very good balance. To me, the benching headaches right now are so big that it's almost a relief when a player gets suspended or picks up a knock. This week I had to pick between Johan Larsson and Vecchia and ended up going with Larsson. Luckily, Irandust out means I get 17p Vecchia from the bench and 28p from those two.

Benching headaches will now be accompanied by captaincy headaches. Currently between Karlsson and Vecchia for GW15, and even playing with the idea of using the doubble captaincy chip on both. But then there is Sugita as well...

Thanks haha I've really enjoyed my first season, it's really helped me improve as a fantasy player and taken me back to basics a bit!

Yes, the lack of AC is a risk however he's not been ripping up any trees lately and at that price there are a lot of better value midfield options.

That's a very nice bit of luck for you, can't say I've really had any bench hauls this season but a lot of that is down to just having a crappy bench. Attempting to get a more well rounded squad with my WC now, especially with having a TV that I really don't know how to spend.

Looks like a good week! Would be more confident if you could get some line-up info about Brorsson and Witry tomorrow, but sure, it looks excellent! When I was planning for my PTB chip, GW15 was the last week I was looking at. After this week there are not as many good options left. My main concern about GW15 then were that it was the 4th game in a very short period of time, and that there could be rotation. But Witry got his rest last week, Okumu has been out for a few weeks and Brorsson is just back in the team, so they should all play.

GW17 looks like a decent bet, but it's the week just before/after the european qualifiers for Djurgården and Malmö, so rotation could be a bigger issue there.

Looks decent, assuming they all start. Lauritsen maybe not ideal (I may bench him this week) but really tough to lineup PTB for perfection anyway, and bps and/or attacking return always a possibility.

Thanks everyone, that's really great advice. I will take a look at 17 and make sure it's not a better bet, and good idea about checking the team news beforehand. I'm not as switched onto Allsvenskan as FPL and I frequently go into gameweeks with my bus team, (that worked out well enough this week with 60ish points 🙂 ) but I will try to pay more attention next time.

I think these chips can be a bit of a lottery so it's best just to play them whenever feels right and hopefully get lucky. I was absurdly lucky with all three chips last year and I won't repeat that success I think.

I suppose the other chips, the attacking one and two captains, are best played when the fixture schedule has calmed down a bit - I'm assuming it will, right?

Park the Bus burning a hole in my pocket, nearly used it last week. If we get DIF and Malmö lineups before the deadline I'll probably do it this week as I have Larsson and looking to finally get Witry. Norrköpping not looking great but Lauritsen is just unbelievable.

As mentioned above the deadline in Allsvenskan can be really stressful and gets in your head far more than FPL or Eliteserien.

Trying to settle on a WC team. How does this look?

                        Bråtveit* (Nilsson)
                        Witry - Björnström - Larsson - Lauritsen - Ahmedhodzic
                        Christiansen - Vecchia - Haksabanovic - Löfquist/Sugita* (Jansson)
                        Karlsson - Søderlund* (Al-Hamlawi)

I've not yet settled on a formation – but it will likely be a 4-4-2/5-3-2 depending on fixtures/rotation. I'm happy with the defence (only one change from my current team), and I think I'll keep Christiansen due to ownership. But I'm not decided on GK (already own Bråtveit though), and the fourth mid + striker spots. So:
                        – Keep Bråtveit or look elsewhere?
                        – Keep Löfquist or upgrade to Sugita?
                        – Which strikers to go with Karlsson? Søderlund/Ludwigson? Very cheap third striker, or a playing option? I already own Nyman, but I think it's time to look at options.

I think all our wc teams will be near-identical.
GK - on Bratveit right now. Not locked in but likely
                            Def - snap
Mids and fwds - much the same. Coming down to Berget/Soderlund vs AC/Ludwigson. Not settled on 5th mid or 3rd fwd

That won't be surprising! There are some absolute must haves right now – and otherwise good options to include on WC.

I think I'm likely to keep Bråtveit the more I think about it. On WC it's tempting to change things up a bit, but he's a decent option. As for mifd and fwds, Berget is definitely in my thinking, but likely at the expense of Christiansen, which is risky I feel. Ludwigson is cheaper than Søderlund, but I'm not sure he'll be a better option the next two. I could keep Søderlund, then make the move to Ludwigson in two GWs time though.

How long will Sugita be an option? He's due to leave soon, right?

I've had Hagg until now and he's been ok, with decent enough fixtures. Usual wc worry of making changes that backfire but guess I should upgrade.

I'm thinking the same on Soderlund then Ludwigson later (with Berget now then maybe AC later). Malmo have form and fixtures until Europe starts but not sure I fancy both mids.

Sugita's contract expires 30/08 according to transfermarkt so still gives us 4 games. I didn't answer your previous question so I'll be keeping him for now over Lofquist or another.

Been there many times before, and that's party why I might just stick with Bråtveit. He comes at a price which allows more funds to be spent elsewhere too.

The Malmö rotation will likely make me avoid a triple-up, even though it's tempting. I can live with a couple benchings (Ahmedhodzic and Christiansen/Berget) now and then, but three would be a red arrow in the making, so two it is.

Thanks! with 4 games to go, that makes him an option still in my book, so I can look towards transferring him our for Löfqvist or someone else down the line. I have Löfqvist in my current team, but Sugita's form makes him a tempting option.

Haksabanovic always the easy answer, though he (and Norrköping in particular) have been a lot worse lately, stats-wise. Karlsson in form at home to Falkenberg, or maybe a defender like Witry or Johan Larsson? Berget if he starts?

Didn't mean to steal your thunder. Good picks
Thinking Karlsson or Berget (esp if we know he's CF), but so many good options this week like Haksa, Witry or Larsson. May even bench Lauritsen over Bjornstrom, which feels wrong.

Do you know anything about how long Abraham's out for? Red flagged with return unknown in the game and can't find further info. No worries if not.

Haha the thunder belongs well and truly to the community, I try to be more like the weatherman 🙂

I can't get it right with Björnström, miss the hauls and play him for all the 2-pointers.
Could actually be a week for two caps the way it's looking...

Hoping to get more Abraham news ahead of the deadline but not sure, he's also rumoured to be sold in the coming weeks as European clubs are after him.

Mostly the same with Bjornstrom. Both he and Lauritsen have high ownership too, so no 'safe' game option.
On wc so can't play two caps but yeah that's a decent option if you can.
Thanks for the Abraham info - that was news to me.

Time for a gamble on captaincy for me, I have Haksa and expect many with give him the armband so - I hope he scores just a few points - as I'm going to play the Two Captains chip on Sugita and Berget. If Berget doesn't start I'll switch to Karlsson.

Two captains for me this week! Allsvenskans most in form players Karlsson and Vecchia against two bottom teams with half theire defence out suspended/injuried. I could play it safe with Sugita over Vecchia, but with the form he's in, even 45 minutes should do the job.

Hoping for information about Irandust and Abraham. If Irandust is out, I might ship him and Abraham for Berget and a fodder with my 2FT. Those are my only two open spots, and whoever gets them now wil leave for GW17 when I'll play my last chip (Attack!).

                                  Good luck everyone!

I'm on Bratveit but for no great reason except DIF vs OFK and slightly better near-term fixtures. Having said that DIF have CL and fixture congestion.

The rest is similar to mine and others. Only difference is you have AC and cheaper fwds, and I'm still undecided on AC.

Bratveit looks more sustainable. Idk how Keira gets so many pts, I guess saves cos ostersund are terrible. Team Looks really good. Id maybe want to have a slightly better bench but I guess when Abraham is back it's good enough. Good team!

Think my WC is settled with exact cash. Got in IKT to help ease the benching headache a bit this gw.

                                  Bratveit
                                  Witry, Lauritsen, Larsson, Ahmedhodzic, Bjornstrom
                                  Haksa, Berget, Sugi (K), Vecchia
                                  Karlsson

                                  4.0, Seljmani, Jansson, IKT

Captaincy undecided between Sugi, Karlsson, Berget.

Any glaring errors? I know no AC, but I'm not sure he's as good an option rn, and because of a lack of low priced strikers, I'd have to downgrade Bratveit > ronning/hagg/Rasheed to afford Jansson + IKT > AC + Crona.

IKT out for two weeks though, will probably lose a bit of value on that I'd imagine. Could go Söderlund for those two weeks and then switch? I do realise and agree with the benching headaches but still 🙂

Sorry to hear that! On beforehand, it looks like a great week to do so. For me, it all actually turned out to the better. I played it in GW10 instead, got an even higher score than I would have gotten in GW8, and have since kept climbing to a rank of around 160. I'll keep looking for another week that could suit you. The good thing about playing it now is that we know more about the teams, and you'll also get a second wildcard to help you plan for the chip. Good luck!

For what it's worth, I've had a look and gw17 and 19 look like nice alternatives in the recent future. Particularly gw17 comes after a nice week long break for most teams too!

Wow nice work! I would be delighted with top 1,000. Actually many players have used more than one chip. And these chips are really worth something when used right (compared to FPL, which are much more of a lottery). I think I made up around 100pts with them last year.

Yep, I've been having a look through my team this season and I think the least I would've got from the PTB was like 12 pts and that was on a week when I played a 3back. Most weeks it would be 20-30 pts. Atm with ranks still so tight, that'd be enough to take me into top100. So yes certainly still a lot of opportunity to surge up the rankings with the WC and all 3 chips left.

I'm actually interested, as someone who played last year what would you say the expectations pts wise from the 3 chips should be? PTB feels by far the most powerful as almost guaranteed a minimum of 10pts, but what about the Attack! and the 2 caps?

Well I only got a 4k finish so I'm not an expert, but my chips all worked. Honestly it'd be a guess but I was really pleased with them so I'd say maybe 7x5 for defence, 7x3 for attack and an extra 14 for Two captains... maybe 70 overall at a crude guess.

By the way I'm delighted I forgot to PTB. I'm on 70pts for the week, no thanks to my defence, and up from 4.5k to 3k 🙂

Yeah, had a Stellar week myself too, 74pts atm thanks to Karlsson cap. VC is on Vecchia so if not for my WC, it would've been a good week for 2 caps chip!

Now just outside top 100 with a good future PTB potentially pushing me as high as 20th!

Since so many played theire PTB-chip this week, I actually counted on that, and what to expect. My conclusion was:

                                                PTB:
                                                Less than 40p - poor
                                                40-60p - Okay
                                                60-80p - Good
                                                More than 80p - Fantastic

                                                Two captains:
                                                20-35p

                                                Attack!:
                                                20-30p

PTB is a mighty chip and shouldn't been taken lightly on. I would even concider using a wildcard just to plan for that chip. The "Two captains" is more flexible and takes no planning, and since you can use any two players at any GW, you should be able to get a good score from them. The "Attack" chips is not a chip worth planning much for IMO. Attackers rarely get more than 6p, and if you can get a goal from 2/3 attackers I think that's an okay result.

Last season I more or less failed with all of my chips. Got 54p from PTB, with Witry being subbed at halftime, costing me a clean sheet. I then played "Two captains" in the first DGW, but put one armband on a defender who only came on as a sub for on of the games, earning me 2p. And the "Attack" chip was used in the second DGW, with only one of my striker scoring, so I think I ended up with about 20p there. The poor choice/bad luck with chips eventually cost me the chance to win it all, but I learned a lot from it.

I wont win it this season eighter due to a terrible start, but at least I've been very fortunate with my chips so far. PTB gave me 74p, despite making a bad call on my 5th defender, and the "Two captains" gave me 48p tonight. All together, it has helped me climb from an OR around 8000 to around 75. Many player still have a few chips left, so I expect to be surpassed by a few players in the second half of the season, but I'm obviously delighted to be where I am now.

Yeah. I understand when you say for example 60pts for PTB, that's the total where as the figures I was quoting are suggested added value, ie 30 pts extra as opposed to not using the chip. A rise from 8k to 75 is really phenomenal and also shows just how close people are even at this stage. I remember you saying you were looking to quit not too long ago. Great turnaround and your advice is very much appreciated. I feel like the lack of dgws this season has made things quite interesting as it encourages a lot more variety in chip usage!

Park the Bus only yielded assists from Witry and Zuta. All five defenders played 90 minutes though, what more could you ask for? Captain would probably have blanked otherwise so I don't feel too bad about it.

Haksabanovic→Berget worked out short term, I think there's better value currently and Levi looks a cheaper route if I want a Norrköping mid. Nyman out next. Karlsson obviously in great form but I'll look at Ludwigsson and Kiese Thelin as well.

I'm still a neutral watching this league so lol at AIK

So, halfway through, maybe we should do a summary?

                                    OR 52.

Another tough week for the captaincy, who are you going with? Berget and Vecchia both in form, but rotation might be an issue. Anders Christiansen back from suspension could be an option, though he has failed to impress lately. Jesper Karlsson in red hot form away to Hammarby?

Yeah, did some calculations based on which my top 3 options were:

                                          1. Berget
                                          2. Vecchia
                                          3. Haksa

Don't trust the rotation of Berget and Form of Norkopping so Vecchia feels the best bet.

Hacken's fixture appeals but Soderlund's form doesn't. So not sure yet. Will probably end up on Vecchia or Karlsson

Although it's tempting to go by form (Vecchia and Karlsson), I just can't ignore the fact that Sirius, Helsingborg, Hammarby and Elfsborg are very different teams home/away.

Helsingborg havn't lost at home since GW5 and have only conceded 8 goals in 7 home games. Meanwhile, Sirius have only scored 9 goals in 7 away games. I don't expect Sirius to get an easy ride like they did on thursday.

Hammarby have 4 clean sheets in 7 home games, and have only conceded 4 goals. Elfsborg have scored 12 in 8 away games, but 5 of them were against Mjällby. I don't expect a very open game there eighter, feels more like a low scoring draw.

Malmö have already failed to score against Mjällby this season in the cup, but they look much better going forward now, and with Mjällby's open style of playing, I expect more goals from this game. Based on this, and the fact that AC is rested and will almost certainly start, he'll be my captain for this week.

If I had AC he'd certainly be a good option!

Toivionen confirmed out! With a little luck, that could mean AC in a more advanced role, and an even better captain shout. Unfortunalty also good news for Berget owners :/

Oh confirmed?! That’s great news, have had no time to do my usual 5-10 minute research with life coming in the way.

I went with the newly rested AC with hopes that Toivonen now gets rested and thus AC ends up higher on the pitch.

Other than that I missed the deadline and thus burned a transfer and messed up my plans which will cost me 4 points within 2 weeks unless we gets an injury....
                                        So, yay injuries!

That burnt transfer meant new plans.
Decided to ignore Johan Larsson, just watch Tihi lose value and instead do Söderlund + Abraham to Selmani + van den Hurk(the excitement!).
Which in turn means the attack chip(Karlsson 3rd) will be used next week if nothing out of the ordinary happens.

I'm getting little greens week by week but the higher in the rankings I get the more identical everyone's teams are. Are there any players you guys reckon will help you climb the rankings? I can't see any way in which I can be different and gain that crucial advantage!

Off the top of my head Sana has looked good, Perry looks great value for Östersund. Maybe van der Hurk up front. I own none of them but Hussein→Perry looks on the cards.

Sana looks good yep, but fixtures don't appeal til about GW20. I can never trust ostersund.

                                        Yeah it’s a big problem.
Most players getting something makes me lose a couple of places. Like for example when Karlsson scored I lost 3 places(as I have not capped him). Same happens with most players getting points.
Berget(I hope) still better my ranking, Bergmann does and Söderlund does no one else(except Captain)

From next week on I own van den Hurk.
It very much is about not making mistakes now and have some real good luck with chips.
Look at early leader Simon Thern. I’ve now passed him since he has gone a bit rogue lately.

Van Der girl is one I have my eye on but think I'll pass for the moment as looking to do Soderlund > IKT and play Attack! Chip on Karlsson, IKT, Seljmani front 3

A Captain goal from AC took me from 51st to 39th

Brattberg/Noring easily the best 4.5/4.0m keeper combo I've ever had.

I wanted Kiese Thelin this week but on account of him being suspended I thought it'd be safe to go for Toivonen. Great start to the week other than that.
