How to play FanTeam’s €1m Premier League Fantasy Game – A Beginner’s Guide

Sponsored by FanTeam

Fantasy Football Scout are again joining forces with FanTeam, Europe’s biggest daily Fantasy sports platform, for the 2020/21 season.

An astonishing – and guaranteed – €1m is on offer in their season-long Premier League Fantasy game, with €200,000 going to the winner.

There is no catch here, only a €25 entry fee – a payment you’ll make up just by finishing in the top 5,659.

Given that only 75,000 entries are permitted, the odds are favourable for those who know their stuff.

On top of that, there are also prizes handed out to Fantasy managers who perform well on a weekly and monthly basis.

So how do you play FanTeam’s game?

Our guide below has all you need to know to get started.

WHAT ARE THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES TO FPL?

Here’s the great news: anyone with any sort of Fantasy Premier League experience should be able to pick up FanTeam’s game without issue.

The rules, scoring and prices are very similar to FPL, so skills – and indeed squads – are easily transferable.

It’s essentially FPL but with huge cash prizes. Given that paid entry mini-leagues are now strongly discouraged by the Premier League, the FanTeam game offers Fantasy managers a legitimate opportunity to make money from their management expertise.

As in FPL, managers build a squad of 15 players that includes two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards.

A maximum of three players from a single Premier League team can be selected, with the budget for the initial squad set at 100.0m.

A starting XI is then selected for each Gameweek from that squad of 15.

One free transfer is allowed each Gameweek, with each additional transfer costing minus four points. Managers can roll a Gameweek transfer forward but can never have more than two free transfers in their locker.

FanTeam managers have two Wildcards to use, one for each half of the season. Unlimited free transfers can be used when the Wildcard is deployed and also ahead of Gameweek 1.

A captain (and vice-captain) has to be nominated every week; that player will score double points if they are handed the armband.

How to play FanTeam's €1m Premier League Fantasy game - a beginner's guide

All sound very familiar? That’s because the two games are largely the same – although there are a handful of differences to watch out for.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • Player prices can rise and fall based on form and in-game transfer movement but, unlike in FPL, a player’s ‘sell price’ is the same as their ‘buy price’.
  • Other than the two aforementioned Wildcards, there aren’t any chips in FanTeam.
  • More than one team is allowed per person, with each entry costing €25.

HOW DO PLAYERS SCORE POINTS?

Seasoned FPL managers should have no problem in adjusting to FanTeam and running a squad with its familiar scoring system, which is shown above.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.
Win a share of €1m as FanTeam and Fantasy Football Scout join forces

We’ll be back over the coming weeks with a series of articles on FanTeam’s million-euro cash game, delving deeper into the player prices, fixture list and strategy.

Until then, head over to FanTeam and start tinkering with your team. As is the case in FPL, unlimited transfers are allowed before Gameweek 1 and the player prices don’t change until the season is underway.

    Hey guys,

No fixtures yet but weighing up this team...

    McCarthy (Nyland)
    TAA Vinagre Salina Taylor (Ayling)
    Salah KDB Bruno Maddison (Soucek)
    Martial Antonio (Davis)

    Could change...
    Taylor ---> Robbo
    Maddison ---> Foden/Traore
    Martial ---> Wood

    Thoughts?

Is it a risky move to start the season with no mane or Salah? Is there another Liverpool player worth considering?

I have bottled the 3x Liverpool defense and got Salah. Only those 2 worth considering.

I've rejigged to have Salah for GW1 because of no KDB, Sterling or Bruno. I will get the Manc premium of my choice cGW3 and fill my 3rd Liverpool defender spot.

I might go all season with no Pool attacker. Better value at the back for pool.
So I think I’ll go triple pool defence and then use these as my premium attackers Auba,KDB,Sterling,Kane,Bruno

Any thoughts on this initial draft?

    Ryan/Nyland
    TAA, VVD, Doherty, Vinagre, 4.5
    Salah, KDB, Rashford, Greenwood, Soucek
    Mitro, Wood, Davis

Depending on fixtures I may do a bit of shuffling to get in Mahrez instead of Rashford or Greenwood.

i like it - i'm not entirely convinced that Rashford is worth the money, could downgrade him and have a punt on Werner up top if that's affordable

Yeah, Rashford and Greenwood are two I'm most unsure of. Rashford being a mid and with his goals/assists from last season makes him tempting. Mahrez would be in my team, but don't trust Pep rotation. TBH, I've never seen Werner play, but his goals last season do definitely bring him into consideration.

if Sancho doesn't come in then Greenwood would seem like a bargain, i'm a bit fed up with Pep roulette so thinking of just having KDB, i'd definitely have Mahrez if i thought he started 90% of games, but his minutes from last couple of seasons show that isn't the case, too many other midfield options there - for 1m more i'd have Bruno over Rashford, and then there's players like Ziyech/Pulisic who might be worth considering as other alternatives

          we need those fixtures 🙂

Doubt they would sign KWP permanently if they weren't planning on starting him IMO, and doubt he'd sign without assurances. Did v well for them last season especially post-restart.

Valery could come back stronger I guess - not sure whether the incredibly strange personal life (alleged) revelations had an impact on him (almost certainly did).

Hmm so a highly likely starter bur not 100% nailed.
Want my 4th £4.5m def to be nailed for rotation reasons to go with Ayling, Vinagre and Taylor.(all of which I'm surprised aren't valued at £5.0m).

Anyone else put off by United players?
    - Haven't score open play goal last 2 games
    - Must be knackered
    - Form is more important than ever heading into this season
    - Martial is now a forward less bp and goal points
    - Surely they will get fewer pens than last year so Bruno not as appealing?

    1. AgentFern

Can only see United getting better and better but new signings will impact certain player ie greenwood

    2. Sanchit

Bruno got 8 goals and 7 assists.
      4 were penalties.
He still had 4 goals and 7 assists in 14 games!

Martial would get more BP for every goal scored.

    4. Andy_Social

Sort of. I've radically overhauled my draft to omit all Manc players from my starting line-up (I had 6), keeping one or two on the bench, on the assumption that they start late. Even if they do start on time, I'll monitor their first matches to see how fresh they are. Then, depending on fixtures, I'll introducce them 1FT at a time, possible focusing on City first.

      Bruno on pens. Good enough.

      1. Knockout games are way more different than league game. The opposition defend with a lot more motivation. We still got numerous chances and should killed the game.

      2. How can't hey be knackered after 1 month rest? And all of them were rested for 3 months during COVID.

      3. There is no form for any team to go by in GW1 just fixtures.

      4. Martial is not the only United attacker and he can justify his 9m price tag pretty comfortably.

      5. There's nothing to suggest we will get fewer penalties. Our style of play is such that opponents our forced to make decisive tackles in the penalty area. Even 10 penalties which is considerably less than last season would be huge for Bruno.

        1. Copenhagen are probably at best a bottom 3 PL side look what how many you put past Bournemouth when they were fighting for their lives
        2. Since the restart their key players have played more minutes than other sides since every game was a must win. Also mentally tough to lose Europe and FA cup semi-finals
        3. The turnaround is so quick last seasons will be fresh in minds
        4. FPL wise only greenwood, martial and bruno are options
        5. The fewer penalties the less appealing Bruno is

How can you forget Rashford? I don't understand how people are so blinded by his mixed form. He would have scored 200 points last season as a midfielder... He's nailed on. He's basically OoP. A proven 200 point scorer for 9.5m is a steal.

He's 9.5 and for 1m more you can get Bruno and for 0.5 less Martial. His form has been poor 3 goals in all comps since the restart

Not on penalties anymore, tends to sit deeper in matches to allow Shaw to overlap. His role feels like more of a left midfield creator than wide forward. He's a wait and see for me imo.

Again Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, Bruno, Pogba, AWB etc are not 30 year olds. They are all very young and one month of rest is more than enough for them.

Also watch Rashford make a mockery of his 9.0m price tag if you think he's not an option.

Rashford 3 goals since restart has looked very poor. Wouldn't go near the United defense only option worth considering is AWB but no attacking returns. Greenwood is an option for his price

      Nope.

They have created an absolute ton of chances, hit the woodwork a bunch against two very decent teams. They also have 30 days off before the start of the season. That's a pretty long break.

I don't see why they'd get fewer pens. If anything, the change to full FIFA protocols for VAR might result in MORE pens.

Sorry Brosstan but I just don't think that's true. Ritchie is basically a LB for Newcastle that takes the odd penalty and isn't even nailed on. Compared to Soucek who had the 6th highest xG of any midfielder post restart, he's not even close imo.

      Both, depends which player/team.
Someone like Antonio/Wood with bad fixtures is not such a great pick even with form.
And equally even with good fixtures without form they can be garbage. (Even Kane and Sterling guilty of this for instance).
So I guess I’d lean towards form being the most important for most players, bar a handful such as KDB who is good any scenario.

        Okay, I'll explain my surprise:

Pulisic has a flag on his name. A clear flag that should put the casuals off as well as the serious players who know it's not a good idea to have an injured player in your GW1 team

What's crazy about this, to me, is that he somehow still has more owners than Sterling. The same Sterling who scored 20 goals last season and a million goals in Project Restart

For them to even be close in ownership, with those two circumstances, is insane

Not disagreeing with you but a lot of teams right now are auto-select teams or placeholder teams with the players people might want in general, I've seen a lot of posts on here selecting Pulisic as a placeholder to see how they might structure things upon his return. Once fixtures are released more people will start building 'actual' teams and his ownership *should* go down

If you Pulisic is fit and Chelsea have good fixtures watch that ownership shoot up.

Sterling is purely because of the number of options in midfield.

+1.5 ITB to jump from Jimmy or Ings straight to Werner if he lights up GW1 or Antonio/Wood/DCL for Mitro if/when headbutts a referee

I've prepared my draft to cope with the Mancs sitting out GW1. I have only 2 in my starting squad with subs to cover. You have those 3 in midfield and only one likely playing sub. Once you get past that obstacle, you're good to go. Very good, I'd say.

I'm all in for 3 premium def if the fixtures warrant it. Need two out of Pool/Wolves/City to have great fixtures.

My team structure falls apart with Greenwood getting competition. That would mean Foden or VVD... Hence, VVD

But an already not-so-flexible 4-5-1 becomes a zombie team 5-4-1

I'll probably go 2 in midfield

It seems very all or nothing in midfield this year

There's about seventeen 12.0's... then there's Greenwood/Pulisic below them... then there's just... not much else

Whilst all the conversation is centred on premium mids, I went out the box and looked into what i could do without more than one. I've currently got a terrific 5-2-3 drafted!

No , doubt anywhere was hacked as most databases only keep hashes of passwords so they are not in clear text. It was simply down to the user not taking security seriously with weak passwords. With social engineering it isn't so hard these days to fugure out passwords from social media posts etc

If anyone's at all interested in some LFC opinions (from a fan!)

                  - Tsimikas will do the usual thing for a new signing and take a while to get up to rhythm + the pressing style etc. No immediate threat to Robertson I don't think, and the recent training videos showed Tsimi looking UTTERLY exhausted! Bless him.

                  - If no 'attacking' signings, I think we'll see a bit more of Shaqiri especially in home games vs opposition who don't pose much of a threat. Weird season last time peppered with injuries and at one stage I was convinced he'd want to move on, but actually seems happy enough...and critically I think some of the other first team lads really like playing with him when he's on pitch (IMO slightly different to Origi who isn't as good of a footballer and Minamino who will still require time/patience).

                  - Gomez first choice, Matip backup until any injury or suspension (not sure if that's a concern for anyone).

                  - Tighter packed schedule could see a couple of instances where the final day team selection is repeated & the standard 'front three' come on with 30 mins to go.

As a LFC fan who do you think will have better season FPL wise, Salah or Mane?
Salah looked a bit wasteful since restart in front of goal

Yeah he did, and as an owner myself it was a bit frustrating! I think he outscores Mane this season overall, but there will be periods where Mane is clearly the better option - up to individual managers if they make aggressive swaps between them or just ride out the waves.

Where do you see Shaqiri coming in? On the left of a 4-3-3?

With back to only three subs, can't see the final day selection with all three of Salah, Mane, Firmino out from starting eleven. Maximum two of those rested, the third one has to start, imo.

I think he can go either side of the front positions in a 4-3-3 happily - we've used Ox there sometimes and he clearly doesn't like it (and has said as much). Another thing which I think we might see just to mix things up a bit & introduce variety in team sheets to mess with oppo managers is a 4-2-3-1 type thing where again Shaq can be used... not saying it'll be a frequent occurrence, just in some "plum" fixtures to be aware of.

Yeah see what you mean - perhaps 2/3 get rested and unleashed with 30 to go.

None will start. pick the one with lowest ownership so they don't get price falls.

I made the mistake last season of starting with Button and Greenwood and both of them fell once they didn't start.

This is the template draft right now. Seen it a few times now. Very standard. I imagine it will change though once fixtures are released.

God dammit I thought I was original, if it’s a template here this it’s good, Im set, waiting for fixtures now.

The only way you can afford that is if the Shieffeld Keeper is 4.5m, can't see that happening.

that's the history on our own team right? But is there anyway to look at our previous mini league ranking?

Once the season starts, if the members of the ML are still the same, you'll be able to get this on livefpl

You'd have to go through the mini leagues teams individually unfortunately, league history isn't saved.

A long shot, but if you weren't the winner of the ML, talk to the winner. I've noticed a lot of ML winners like to screenshot the table so they can remind the rest of the players who's the "top dawg" 😀

Arsenal target Gabriel is left footed. Which makes me think that he’ll partner David Luiz if they play with two CB’s.

Is soucek an option as starting midfielder?
Purely based off his price the extra money that could be used opposed to a 6.5 and under

He will probably flop, but everyone will have him so we all go down together!
So yea Soucek is a viable option based on his likely ownership.

Isn't it too risky to have 2 liverpool defenders? I would sell VVD for a cheaper option and invest the money in your attack or midfield maybe

I'm a Leeds fan and would say Pereira.
Pablo is amazing but his minutes are massively managed now. Probably play a max of 1600 minutes all season and rarely a full 90
