Son or Kane? Which FPL asset can best capitalise on Spurs’ appealing fixtures?

Harry Kane‘s (£10.5m) end to the 2019/20 season suggests he could be the key asset for those looking to tap into Spurs’ appealing fixtures this time around.

Jose Mourinho’s men sit second on the Season Ticker for attacking potential over the first six Gameweeks, based on their opponents.

During this period they host Everton, Newcastle and West Ham while they’re road trips take them to Southampton, Manchester United and Burnley.

Spurs players had not appeared in too many Fantasy Premier League drafts before Thursday’s fixture release, but now that we know the schedules, Mourinho’s charges have become more popular.

As Fantasy managers search for the best way to invest in Spurs’ attack, Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Kane are the front-runners, currently sat in 18% and 14.5% of squads respectively.

Ahead of the new season, we have compared how these two attackers performed during Project Restart. As this uses Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

What were Son and Kane’s average positions?

    Mccarthy
    TAA ayling kwp saliba
    Salah auba Armstrong soucek
    Werner mitrovic
    (Button greenwood Davis Ferguson)
This has 5m in the bank ready for :
    Auba to kdb
    Armstrong to bruno

    What do you think?

Ayling is not good option. You should find better defender.
Why 'Auba to KDB'? that's a bit of a transfer loss.

Reports are that he threw a cop to the ground, punched and kicked him. Add in attempted bribery and it's not exactly minor misbehaviour.

Will be lucky if having the captaincy stripped is the worst that happens to him.

Perhaps yeah, you never really see Lateriser or AVFC82 asking people what changes they should make... they just do them.

I think a lot of people, myself included, will ask questions seeking a little bit of confirmation bias. Typically asking an A or B question and when B comes out on top giving reasons why A is a better option.

Definitely. I think most players just need to be a bit more single-minded & play the game on their own terms rather than seeking consensus or validation.

I dont see any harm in it myself as long as you make your own decisions at the end of the day as you are the one who will suffer the consequence or reap the rewards.

If I tell a random that I like his team I couldn't really give a monkies if it all goes pete tong!!

I think a heavy premium defense at the start could leave ample room to pivot towards any 4.5m which show value with an early WC, also leaving room to get sir marcus (or son form dependent) in gw2 from ziyech funded by kane to jimenez - thoughts? Could be shooting myself in the foot with the early call on Kane but I feel his form leading up to the end of season plus a clear summer is too good to ignore at 10.5. 18 goals in an "average" season - I believe in the mean so maybe he's due....

    Ryan

    VVD \ TAA \ Doherty \ Ferguson

    Auba \ Salah \ Ziyech \ Armstrong

    Kane \ Mitro

    Button - Taylor - Davis - Bissouma

What do you guys think of starting forwards heavy with a WC after GW2 to reshuffle defence and get wolves players for their fixture after City? I'm thinking something like:

      McCarthy
      Vinagre Aurier Walker-pieters
      Auba Son Ziyech ASM
      Kane Werner Vardy
      Bn: 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.5

Exact same here but Davies > Aurier! Out of interest, what's your team if you don't mind sharing? Haven't seen any 5ATB.

Also word of warning on Aurier, with Tanganga's return it's more than possible he gets a few runouts at RB when Mourinho wants to be defensively secure. He seems to favor him and Mou plays the defenders he likes.

          I'm on 5 atb:

          McCarthy
          TAA / VVD / Doherty / Tierney / KWP
          Salah / Auba / ASM
          Werner / Ings

          .5 ITB

Not a fan of Davies and I think Mou is a fan of Aurier, he played every game after restart didn't he? I'm likely moving Aurier on to Laporte after a few weeks anyway.

Rest of the team isn't really set for the start

But something like this long term
          tAA/VVd/doh/Laporte/vinegar
          Salah/kdb/Bruno/Soucek/4.5
          Wood/Antonio/4.5

Largely fine. I know Vinagre looks good value but you can't have him twice!
Think I would upgrade Soy to VVD or TAA as they are great value and be good to cover liverpool def. Also 3 key Lei defenders out so don't like them.
Don't mind the Henderson punt think he could provide good value.
Make sure you're happy with captaincy options going forward as Auba probably not for every game.

I’m starting to like Antonio a bit more to begin with. He was on my watchlist for GW8 onwards, but if you look at West Ham’s fixtures, they’re not winnable games, but I can see him nicking a goal in each game bar Liverpool away.

I wonder if it'll take United and City a few matches to get up to speed... will only be training for a week or two before the opening game and lacking match fitness. I doubt I'll be bringing in any United or City assets GW2 or even GW3 unless Palace and Brighton are horrendous.

Alright... I've sort of solved my MUN dilemma.

    McCarthy Nyland
    TAA Doherty Vinagre Justin Ferguson
    Salah Auba Fernandes Armstrong Soucek
    Werner Mitrovic Wickham

Plan then is to bench Fernandes in GW1. In GW2 I could do Werner > Martial but more likely just hold the transfer. Then Auba > KdB in GW3 and then I can use the money where it's needed.

Playing 4-4-2 in GW1, 3-5-2 in GW2 and 3 benching Vinagre then Justin vs City and then I can decide between Soucek + Justin for that last slot on a weekly basis going forward.

Doesn't force any transfers. Allowing me to roll one if I want in GW1. I have an aggressive option of Werner > Martial if Chelsea look disappointing in GW2. If he performs, he'll stay and ride him out for 5 good weeks and then we can see where we're at.

          I'd look at it as:

Are you getting Bruno in for the long term? Say 5 weeks? If so, a 4pt hit is less than 1pt a week - if Bruno will outscore who he replaced by over 4 points in 5 weeks then its a no brainer transfer. I think he does outscore everyone in his price bracket by that much so I would absolutely take a hit to have him in.

    2. Shatner's Bassoon
      • 5 Years

I think if you're set on having Bruno F from the start (and looking to captain him somewhere...which you should be at 10.5), this is about as good as you can get.

I think that's basically the only justification for having him in from the off, yeah.

Otherwise I'd say Auba can be your C in week two, and the Bruno cash can be spread.

I think it’s going to be really hard to “plan” transfers at the beginning (even if only for the first few GWs) as player prices are going to be crazy. Suspect you will need more than .5 ITB to deal with it

That's why I'm not planning any.

I can comfortably take this team into GW2 without feeling desperately like I'd need MUN cover which is what I'd feel if I didn't bench Bruno in GW1.

I don't think I'd WC before GW3. That's when the fixtures really start swinging.

Wolves and Liverpool. Even City have much nicer fixtures beginning in GW3.

Yeah I understand. It’s a blimen pain having this blank game week to begin with as I think it’s going to take priority over ppls teams and mean a lot will have slow starts. I’m really tempted to ignore it and just wildcard GW2. Could provide just as much of a benefit using it GW2 than keeping it and using it later down the line?

Problem is, it's so early. There's an international break in GW4/5. Also, most of my defense would stay the same on WC. I'd want to WC at least like 8 players if I did it and if I did it in GW4 I think it'd be closer to 5 changes only.

Both honestly. I really want both and just to hold onto them.

Bruno's scoring history is very impressive. He got 20 league goals in his last full season at Sporting and then 16 last season including 8 in the PL. He's scoring more than 0.5 goals per game which is an elite rate. I think he can mostly continue that at United with penalties in his locker too.

      Bruno more

I can see myself dipping in and out of Sterling for KdB for hot fixtures. Sterling is going under the radar but he was the hottest premium at the end of the season.

Can't find a reasonable plan to include manutd assets for the cpl game that doesn't include benching greenwood.

    Here's where I am atm.

    McCarthy . 4.0
    TAA . Aurier . Vinagre . Saliba . 4.0
    Salah . Auba . ASM . Maddison . 4.5
    Kane . Werner . 4.5

Plan is to hold this team for gw1 and 2. Then ship Auba and Maddison to KDB and greenwood.

With regard to the BGW - it's either start with Auba and captain him GW2 before likely selling GW3, or it's Rashford on the bench GW1 and probably captaining him GW2. Starting with Auba gives me the extra info as to who to move for in GW3, whilst the Rashford option saves me a transfer.

If there's one team that sneers at fixtures, it's Liverpool.
Having said that, let me go into more detail.
I start with TAA and Robbo, plus Salah due to early fixtures. Against Chelsea and Arsenal I accept a lower chance of clean sheets, but they are gung-ho attacking sides that may allow more licence to the wingbacks to pummel them down the flanks. Weak defences give licence to Salah too. After those games I have a roadmap to lose Salah and acquire VVD as the chances of clean sheets increase and KDB and Bruno can match Salah's output.

TAA - PointsPer£m and consistency hard to ignore.

Pulisic - I thought he was starting to settle towards the end of the season. Be very interested to hear what a Chelski fan thinks of him, and the impact of Willian leaving and Werner may mean.

Son [think I've just been lucky with him]

Auba - As a midfielder he's exciting for captain potential. Arsenal to surely look more potent than last year going forward, which should set him up for the Golden Boot chase again.

Kane - I suspect the tank is filled after his extended injury break and the brief showing of leg he received of goal from the reboot, and he'll offer consistency which I value at the start of the season.

Salah, Trent, Auba are certain and probably Nyland on the bench. Still a long way to go with the rest of it.

Won't be using an early chip and don't really want to have to wildcard I'm gameweek 2 or 3 so will be planning for 4-6 weeks. Will all go wrong at some point!

I may have Greenwood on the bench but not any other city or United assets as that feels a waste of money. Auba to sterling or KDB will be my planned gameweek 3 move the same as everyone else.

      Trent Salah Werner Auba Vinagre

Though tbh every player but Mitrovic and VVD is at 95%. Could of course change but when a team clicks for me I loathe changing it

Transfers after watching Palace and Brighton. I don't mind not having a United player for Palace. Don't think it'll be the thrashing everyone expects

      Salah (C)

      McCarthy
      TAA - Justin - Vinagre
      Auba - Salah - Son - Ziyech - Ritchie
      Werner - Mitrovic

      (Nyland, KWP, Brewstar, Targett)

2 of Son, Ziyech, Werner -> 2 of Rashford, Greenwood, Martial before GW2 for a hit

Auba-> KDB for free before GW3

Locked in: TAA Davies Salah Auba Greenwood Soucek
Blanks: Bench greenwood, play soucek. Bring in Martial and KdB wk2/3.
WC: Thinking of loading up on wolves players from the start so that i dont have to use it.
Chip: Had wanted to use a BB, but with the blanks, im already using my wk1 bench
Bench: wk1 aside, soucek will be first sub with the remainder as fodder.
      Captains: wk1 Salah wk2 Auba wk3&4 KdB

      Of my current draft:

      Locked in:
      TAA, McCarthy, Salah, Auba

      Pretty confident will be in:
      Werner, Soucek, Adams, Fernandes

      Fixed priced points:
      4.5+4.5+4.0 defenders, 5.5 mid

      Current dilemma:
      Mitrovic Vs Doherty

Saving my chips for a rainy day

4.5 rotating GKs, Trent, Doherty, Auba, Werner, Mitrovic.
A United midfielder and defender on the bench with Soucek and Ferguson playing GW1 instead.
City attack with Auba > Sterling or Kane > Aguero in GW3/4
Plan to double-up on Pool or Wolves defence from GW4
      Increasingly warming to 442/433 ideas.
      Auba (c) for GW1, Auba/Rashford (c) for GW2

TAA, Salah, Auba, Kane, McCarthy, Ings.

Auba is a place holder -> easy to downgrade to the plentiful options.

Keeping an eye on Werner, easy Kane downgrade if he starts hot

    McCarthy
    Trent Doherty Justin Ferguson (Taylor)
    Ziyech Salah Aubameyang StM (Bissom)
    Kane Adams (Davis)

    2m itb for Aubameyang/Ziyech -> Bruno/Sterling GW3

    Big Dilemma!!
    A. Kane/Adams/Doherty
    B. Ings/Jimenez/Tierney

    Any Thoughts???

Son. Why? Because there is too much competition for captains for Kane.

So I won't give him the armband and the value has to be considered. If he gets constant brace I'll change my mind, but I doubt that will happen.

    £100m:

    Ryan (Button)
    Vinagre TAA Dallas (Ferguson, Douglas)
    Salah Ziyech Aubameyang Pereira (Soucek)
    Werner Ings Mitrovic

    Thoughts?

I think with your set up, Soucek down to a 4.5m guy to allow one of your 4.0 def up to a nailed 4.5m to give you rotation optons, especially with Dallas in mind. Soucek fixtures are bad so you dont lose a lot

Thanks Dbeck - Soucek was my wavering choice so this makes good sense. Don't want to rely on Leeds too much!

It's a case of watch this space. If wolves sign competition Doherty is a lock in my side and I won't be disappointed.

In a world where Bruno has no penalties, how much would he be worth?

Are we potentially gimping our teams (setting ourselves up for slow starts) by trying to accommodate for the City/United assets blanking GW1?

Seems we are either benching a lot of money and playing sub par options in their place GW1 or we are planning future transfers when player prices are tend to be more volatile which could be problematic even with £ ITB?

I’m starting to wonder whether using a early WC (GW2) could provide just as much benefit (if not more) than holding onto it for later down the line?

    Opinions?

I think often that early use of the first WC is strategically the best way to play it.

completely agree, never done an early WC but i'm actively planning to use it after GW2

GW2 WC is by far the worst option. I'd rather take a -8.

Benching 1 or 2 players is fine for a single GW - you can set your team up such that you can have a bench option you can play instead.

I am 'gimping' as you call it, rather than blowing early hits, chips and wildcard. I believe in the long term I'll have the advantage of those who blow their loads prematurely.

I’m really liking my team now. Just need to see if Martinez and Saliba are nailed, and whether Wolves signs new left back.

Martinez won't start I'm pretty sure. Leno is first choice. He's better with his feet which matters to Arteta.

Community Shield will tell us the starting 4.5 defenders of which I'm very hopeful Saliba is one.

Yeah, I doubt he’s first choice too. Wishful thinking. 😆
