Hall of Fame number one Fábio Borges joins Fantasy Football Scout for 2020/21

We at Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce that we’ve added yet another high-profile name to our all-star cast of contributors for the 2020/21 season.

And Fantasy Premier League managers don’t come much more illustrious than Fábio Borges, who currently sits atop our Career Hall of Fame.

You’ll need a pretty impressive season history to claim first place in those rankings and Fábio boasts an incredible track record of five successive finishes in the top 5,000 of FPL.

Two of those have been inside the top 1k, with his best-ever overall rank of 95th recorded in 2018/19.

Fábio has never finished outside the top 20,000 in six seasons of playing the game and, just to underscore his prowess, he was also the winner of Ragabolly’s inaugural Virtual FPL competition over the summer.

The Lisbon resident will be involved with Fantasy Football Scout in a Pro Pundit capacity and will be writing articles throughout the season.

Fábio follows site founder Mark Sutherns in joining our star-studded team of contributors, which includes some of the best FPL managers in the world.

The likes of Lateriser, Zophar and Tom Freeman, who have multiple top 1k finishes between them, have come aboard for another year and we are thrilled that they will be writing for us once again in 2020/21.

While there will be our usual offering of free content from these elite names, only Premium Members of Fantasy Football Scout will get unrestricted access to all of their analysis and team reveals.

Full-year subscriptions are available for the pre-season price of £17.50 until August 31, while rolling monthly Memberships can be purchased for £2.99.

      7/10

      The weaknesses are:

      1) two 5.5 miss. Would prefer just one. Not a huge amount of alternatives at that level if neither proves to be good. Consider a 6m striker instead?

      2) One playing striker leaves you less flexible than other formations when other strikers inevitably start well. You'll need to be very disciplined if e.g. Robbo / Doherty don't deliver first two GWs and e.g. Kane / Vardy / Jimenez hit the ground running

In short, not a fan of 4-5-1 with two 5.5s

Play your own game guys don't be affected by what people say there. For example I am going to start with Ings Richarlison and without Salah no matter how bad my choice some people there think my choice is...

if you start playing with fear from the start where does that get you? Week after week playing a game in fear doesn't sound fun to me.

Exactly, the noise around twitter is just ridiculous. So much nonsense being posted.

The best FPL players are rarely influenced by others, they influence others.

        Second sentence is key.

It's going to be a shame when a lot on here change their team to mirror what Mark does, should he reveal his team on an upcoming scoutcast.

indeed . Mark's success is down to his ability to think freely and not be influenced by the FPL mind think tank.

Yes, he has made several bad decisions we all do but many of his best decisions have been where he has against what others are doing in the FPL weekly move and making decisions for which the FPL community never considered or are too fearful to take.

Ings is 7 point per goal almost fixture proof striker that can score 15+ goals, great option.

Salah only has one or two good games in the first six, those fixtures seems more suited for Mane imo, even with both priced 12.0 and Salah is on penalties.

Rich is akwardly priced at 8.0, wish his price was reduced, but he's key player for Everton. I'm more concerned with Everton's general creativity, rather than Richarlison as a player.

Liverpool misses Anfield atmosphere. I think they will mostly score 2 goals at Anfield this season. Salah was doing massively good because of Anfield imo. After the restart he didn't shown being able to provide big numbers every week like the last 2 seasons. Also for Richarlison I have to say that you expect him to be better and better as he grows up as a footballer.

It is interesting observation, but Liverpool had title in the bag before restart, so you have to take that into account.

Absolutely. Im going without Salah as well. He usually takes time at the start + seen pics from Liverpool training camp and he looks overweight + Liverpool fixtures are not brilliant.

Spreading out the cash and upgrading 1 def + 1 mid + 1 attacker

Once price bracket I'm struggling to fit in my team is the 6.5-8.5m mids. There's some potential in that price bracket with Chelsea mids, Greenwood, Foden etc but they just don't fit into my setup atm.

Trying to upgrade someone like Armstrong or Soucek to one of these would require a prem fwd/mid downgrade or only one 1 prem def.

        Werner Mitro

        (4.0 Lamptey Ferguson 4.5)
        1.5m

Bruno on the bench if can find a decent 4.5m starting def for GW1 with a good fixture.

That's exactly the same as my current team - except I have VVD instead of TAA, giving me the funds to add Aurier instead of a 4.5 Def.

Fraser still needs to end up somewhere.

Palace seems quite probable right now - fits the profile of recent transfers and we're interested.

Not much good for FPL likely but it could send Zaha elsewhere which could be good value

I 100% see Gordon breaking through this year - especially if we don't sign an out-and-out winger. I think he's too risky as a 4.5 from the off though, especially with only 3 subs again he isn't guaranteed to always have a point to come on off the bench.

Anguissa for Fulham should be nailed for 2 points every week (if he's not sold)

other than that i have high hopes that Emile Smith Rowe will make the breakthrough at Arsenal since he can play as an 8 or a 10, which both positions have a vacancy for atm with Ozil seemingly finished and Ceballos gone back to Madrid

The overall logic is interesting ie having 2 utd assets primed for game week 2. Forget some of the filler names on their ie Giroud ihenacho Keïta you can move them around ie Antonio bamford Asm etc etc. The point will be are you potentially giving up too much ground in game week 1.

It’s a real conundrum as I also want 2 utd for the palace game. Does though give food for thought about how to put 2 United on the bench.

I actually had Vinagre in my team a couple of seasons ago, so don't have any concerns with him. He'll play while Jonny is out even if they bring in cover.

Saliba I'm not sure about, but could easily be Walker Peters.

I'm not going near the Leicester defence with Evans out and Chilwell on his way to Chelsea!

            Ferguson, Taylor and 4.5m mid.

Yes, in my other draft I have Son + Jimenez + 4.5 mid instead of Mane + Soucek + 4.5m striker.

I prefer that, but with Mane I know I can bring in Bruno or Rashford with one FT. That flexibility might be valuable.

Nice - could follow closely if I decide on Bruno over Greenwood.

Also have ASM in defence right now. Thinking there's simply better value there than in midfield.

Yes true, but the 4.5m mids are beyond awful.

Mane probably becomes Bruno in GW2, and Aubameyang to KDB in GW3.

They are - putting money in defence means an almost completely dead bench if I go Bruno. Going Greenwood at least gets me Koucek there.

Lads, we need to speak about Timo. We all agree that price 9.5 is less then player value. But why are u so sure about him when CFC has 4 strikers, and whrere Abraham must plays some minutes. And Zirou has great end of the season + this year is EURO and he is the 1st striker in France. Ofc Werner is #1, but i dont expect that he wei get same minutes as Vardy or Kane. Season is so heavy and long and Lams has that luck, that he has 3 good strikers to rotate.
      Is Zyiech better option?

Even with Abraham and Giourd in the mix, Werner could play on the left with one of those two in the middle, with Pulisic benched. I can see rotation of strikers, but the Werner is not the only one in danger.

I'm close to finishing my team, and I have 0.5 mill left.
What is best to do with 0.5 ?

      A) McCarthy to Ramsdale
      B) Upgrade Ferguson to 4.5 def
      C) Gordon ---> Soucek
      D) Save 0.5 for bringing in Utd asset after GW1 (Maddy-Greenwood or Son-Rashford)

      My team:
      McCarthy, 4.0
      TAA, Vinagre, Justin (Taylor, Ferguson)
      Salah, Auba, Son, Maddison (Gordon)
      Werner, Mitrovic, Adams

      Ryan

      TAA / Vinagre / KWP / Ayling / Ferguson

      Salah / Auba / Son / Soucek / Gordon

      Werner / Jimenez / Mitrovic

GK - McCarthy understandably popular with fixtures but prefer Ryan's occasional Pope-esque propensity for saves and bonus. Ings et al tend to dominate bonus at Southampton. Either way, likely to be much of a muchness

Def - KWP to cover those Southampton fixtures. Undecided on fourth defender but currently punting on Ayling as this seasons potential Doherty 19/19

Mid - Spurs fixtures make me want one of either Kane or Son and Son's price plus striker alternatives give Sonny his place (for now). Soucek more or less likely to nick a goal in my mind despite tough fixtures. And his enabling price sees him inover Armstrong / ASM who lets not forget are still pretty punty themselves.

For - Werner due to ownership plus shiny new toy factor. Also potentially captainable and exceptional value. Jimemez is Mr Reliable and fixtures GW3-8 are outstanding. Mitrovic ok fixtures plus talisman on pens.

      Final thoughts:
      1. there are 5 penalty takers in this team
      2. Son and Werner price points make Utd switches straightforward if neccessary
      3. Hoping to hold wildcard until GW8

So....I think I've found a team that works and ticks most of the fixture boxes & gives me flexibility to adapt.

433 to start. Moving to 343

      McCarthy
      TAA Vintage Justin Saliba
      Salah Auba Son
      Werner Mitrovic Adams

      Gordon Ferguson

Auba > KDB will give me 0.5 to either upgrade one of the budget strikers or defenders. Son could also become Rashford etc.

Adams is a punt I'm happy to take as I want some Southampton Attack coverage

See alot of 7.5 and then 4 to 4.5 to make up defences with rotation between the cheapies. To upgrade these defences is going to be one hell of a headache = ripping up your team.

For instance, Leeds defence not looking like an option now with those fixtures etc. I had Dallas in my drafts but removed him quickly. I was on this strategy of TAA and cheap defence until I realised no 5.5 to 7.0 mid will dismantle Doherty for points at 6.0.

TAA and VVD are points monsters so all three of these plus a 4.5 for a 4 man defence is what I am aiming for until we get team news for GW1 and perhaps info from the pre-season fixtures as well as new signings being added to the game before GW1.

I agree with you and actually really want 2 premium defenders. I just can't fit it in and the lower price miss and forwards are even worse for transferring out. Nothing worse than taking a hit to upgrade from ASM to Gordon to free up 0.5

Wildcard will be used to get doherty and maybe another liverpool defender for me, not desperate to start with double pool with 2 tough fixtures and same with wolves and doherty.

Agree they are good long term picks but imo some cheap lads could match them over first 3/4 weeks.

        Thinking along similar lines

Divergence is that I'm willing to wait for VVD a bit. There's a 5.5 sitting there currently. Not sure Liverpool cs are that great early on and may use the extra 1.0 or 1.5 upfield to begin with

Nothing set in stone and definitely agree on 4.5 rotation point - mining defensive transfers a goal - but not excluding them altogether.

Brewster's situation up in the air. If he stays at LFC he will most likely be an impact sub. If he goes on loan to another PL club I would have him 24/7 365 at 4.5 over the likes of Mitro.

Klopp wanted him to go to Leeds instead of Swansea this past season. Biesla is the type of manager which will improve Brewster if he had to go on loan and will probably usurp Bamford's spot.

Less sure if you're thinking of him as a starter. Best 4.5 by a distance for fodder

His record at Swansea was good not stunning and there's a big step up to PL and he'd likely be playing for a team that struggles for goals

Personally I don't want 10 million player on my bench gameweek 1. Will get son and auba with an easy switch to city and United lads when I want to.

Our of those I would go for Armstrong over foden and pick a good cheap defender depending on how preseason looks.

        1. Gleys11
          • 3 Years

          Thanks for the reply.
With A would have Greenwood and Fernandes on the bench.
Armstrong over Foden also helps in that regard. So need for extra transfer to get him in after. Week 2 Aubameyang out for De Bruyne.
10.5 million player on the bench not ideal. Just have to decide if worth the extra 4 point transfer to get Fernandes week 2 as well.
          Nice suggestion regarding Son.

Assuming the 4 blank GW1 teams players ownership are massively down, doesn't this mean as the season progresses there will be alot more trade ins than trade outs, thus increasing their price?

I know an early WC is very unpopular on this site, but I see alot of positives with early points and team value. Starting with 3 Arsenal might pay off

I confess I'm all over the place with my team.

I think it comes down to strategy and what type of season you intend on having.

I'm in two minds, but I think I want to play the slow, long game. Patience, patience, patience.

I think investing heavily in defence in the likes of VVD and Doherty provides a predictability and assurance of value for money that you can't get elsewhere over a medium time frame. Set and forget

It may mean only one cheapie attacker, but that may be a blessing.

The difficulty is with Manchester, hence the conundrum.

I think there's multiple ways of playing the game and if you look at last season's sucessful examples, some didn't have Salah, others didn't have Vardy. The list goes on.

Yeah it’s difficult this season, I keep thinking about Sterling as well and his low ownership

Here's my team at the moment with plans to move auba and son to Sterling and United mid in gameweek 3. Can squeeze in fernandes if I downgrade elsewhere, possibly vardy to martial. Am aware some of the 4.5 picks may not start and wilm monitor pre season. Am happy with overall structure for now.

      McCarthy
      Trent Egan Vinagre Saliba
      Salah Auba Son Armstrong
      Vardy Ings

Yeah good team, I’m going with Werner at the moment instead of Vardy but like you say keep an eye on preseason

Everyone seems to love Werner. I think he will do well but want to see where he plays and how team gel around him. Liverpool second game could be tough for him.

Easy switch from vardy to Werner if it all goes wrong at least!

Which would you choose medium-long term chaps?

      A) Doherty | Rashford | Soucek
      B) Vinagre | Fernandes | ASM/Armstrong
      C) Vinagre | Rashford | Pereira/JWP/Foden

      Thanks

I guess it depends how long Jonny is out for and if they sign a left back.
Still lots of value elsewhere in the 4.5 range I guess

If Pulisic is fit, would you prefer him or Son for GW1?
