What impact will Aké have on Man City’s FPL defenders in 2020/21?

The arrival of Nathan Aké (£5.5m) at Manchester City could improve the club’s defensive prospects in 2020/21.

Pep Guardiola’s men were missing consistency and strength in depth at centre-back last season but Aké can be stabling influence this time around.

We have assessed the former Bournemouth defender’s credentials ahead of the new campaign, what impact he will have on the City defence and whether or not that can make him a viable Fantasy Premier League asset.

As we have used Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access this article in full.

What defensive contributions did Aké make last season?

I’m a little bit disappointed in Messi, years of mega success and the first real challenge comes round to the team as the trophies dry up and he abandons ship.
Would have thought this is the time he should be loyal and show his importance to drive the team forward and improve.

Of course he isn’t getting younger and maybe he does desire a challenge elsewhere, but it does feel like all of a sudden he’s leaving as the sh** has hit the fan.

It's a two-way street. Messi has given everything to Barcelona past few years and they gave him little in return. He's a competitive player that wants to win trophies, if Barcelona won't do that for him, why not leave?

No one wins anything on their own. This season at Barcelona proves that. He's still easily the best player in the world and if he did leave and succeed, I'm sure there would still be people searching for a reason to discredit him.

They got him when he was young. Helped him settle & paid for his medical condition.

He's a proud member of La Masia !

All his life he is playing for them. So it'd be awkward to see him elsewhere.

They paid him handsomely over the years. Literally renewal if contract's every season. Even CR7/Zlatan didn't get that much despite roaming around that much.

Winning everything. And now leaving when they need him to stay. I'd much rather see him go fighting down than go & find a "challenge" elsewhere.

I'm too emotional maybe but that's my point of view mate 🙂

It's a different club then the one joined, both on and off the pitch. Everything Barcelona stood for as for as a football club is being disintegrated.

He has probably done more for a single football club than anyone, I don't think he owes them anything personally. Honestly, he's been carrying this team for years now and is still made the scapegoat when things go wrong. I completely understand why he'd feel the need to change and if he does leave, he'll do so with a heavy heart that's for sure. That's how I see it anyway.

There is a time in football when players seek a new challenge/experience & now is the time for Messi.

Don’t forget he was at Barca before Ronaldo joined Madrid in 2009... I love Ronaldo for this reason. It is always good for players to challenge themselves in a different league. You make it sound like he is married to Barca which isn’t the case!

That's what I hate about modern football. The elite level teams' sense of entitlement to trophies. It kills the game because it's the same group of Big Brand Name clubs monopolising all the trophies. Juve have won 9 titles in a row. Bayern 8 with their second CL win in 7 years. Real winning three CL's in a row. It's bullshït.

The first real challenge? He's been carrying that team on his back for years now. The board have done a horrendous job building that squad. They haven't had a half decent manager in seasons. The club is and has been an absolute shambles for a while now.

I get the feeling you haven't followed Barcelona at all the last few seasons. Just watch Prem and the odd CL game right?

Yes you’re right but they’ve won the last 2 la ligas before season just gone and been eliminated by 2 miracles performances from Liverpool and Roma in the champions league.

I wouldn't say now is 'all of a sudden', they've been poor in Europe for a few years now. He's given them enough years, he doesn't owe them anything and should give it a go here and we'll all be glad to see him here.

Would have to agree to disagree, barring 2 miracle comebacks they most likely would have 2 champions leagues recently

Permanent captain for any serious player. He’d reduce fpl to 10 players with no captain choice.

Potentially decent strike force that. Seems a bit risky with three PL debutantes though.

I currently have Greenwood and Foden and can just about get an 11 out if they all start as I also have Kenan Davis but I am fine with it as it saves transfers.

People always say the player is never bigger than the club, but Messi must be the only case of it actually being true.

He ofc wont leave Barca, he does this all the time to get what he wants.

The power of Messi, even Ronaldo could never wield that power

It’s all wrong, and unjustifiable. How can a guy like Maguire earn that much and behave like that whilst people can’t make ends meat.

But, in football terms, probably. Juve made their money back quick on Ronaldo.

Really sad to see Messi leaving Barça, if this is indeed the end... sad stuff.

If he’s gotta go anywhere, think he should go to PSG. City don’t need him in the slightest and while it could be fun to see him in the Prem, would wreck things in terms of FPL a bit.

Ideally would like to see him stay at Barça, but PSG/Inter could be decent options if leaving is justifiable
