Moving Target

What impact will Aké have on Man City’s FPL defenders in 2020/21?

The arrival of Nathan Aké (£5.5m) at Manchester City could improve the club’s defensive prospects in 2020/21.

Pep Guardiola’s men were missing consistency and strength in depth at centre-back last season but Aké can be stabling influence this time around.

We have assessed the former Bournemouth defender’s credentials ahead of the new campaign, what impact he will have on the City defence and whether or not that can make him a viable Fantasy Premier League asset.

As we have used Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access this article in full.

What defensive contributions did Aké make last season?

Either, really. They don’t inspire confidence imo.

Can’t really fit in Son/Kane, and I did have Ben Davies in but cant fit him with Trent Doherty KWP Saliba 4.0...

So basically you are not saying it because you mean it, but only because you can't fit Son or Kane

I think the major trend is reinforced by the "Mou's second season" phenomenon, although I really don't see how that would be the case with Spurs

I have Son, Dier and Ziyech in my current draft and it feels good.

I think Dier and Bavies are more or less nailed if no signings change things. Not every game but enough to buy in.
Plus there's some nice alternatives at that price imo (Egan, Saiss, Bellerin) if it goes t*ts up.

      1. Vazza

Davies has competition with Rose and Sessegnon.

Dier has competition with Alderweireld and Sanchez for one of the two CB spots.

Plus there is Tanganga who could play anywhere in the defensive line.

I currently have Dier in my draft team but there is no guarantee whether he starts week in week out.

That’s true. But if Messi is 14.5-15 then I’m sure there will be plenty who’d rather try a Greenwood + Wood/Ayew whatever for the same fpl money... but still not the same points potential of course.

Daley Blind with more health worries after collapsing again today, screaming and then walking off the pitch.

Ten Hag later confirmed that his implantable cardioverter defibrillator had gone off, which means his heart wasn't doing what it was supposed to do.

The fear of that happening would be enough to make me retire. Shows how determined footballers can be to keep playing I guess.

Liverpool will not be the same like the past two years trust me... They aren't going to get 90+ pts again imo. Probably they will have to change lots of people in their starting lineup. I can't remember a team playing with the same lineup for 3 straight years.

It won't be the same team 3 straight years.
Keita will play a lot more. New Greek guy and Neco will fill in at FB at times. Minamino will be used to rest Bobby.
Jones and Ox will deputise too.

Most of the team at their very peak. And what a team it is. I wouldn't be writing off another 90+ point season just yet.

They haven't shown any signs of regression so I don't get it. I actually think they'll do quite good this year. Youngster like Williams, Brewster, Jones and Elliot to step up when given the chance. I don't know what's changing about the starting XI except for Keita starting more games.

  16. Petrodollar

Hey people. I have been tinkering with my team and am thinking of starting the season with a 442:

    McCarthy - Button
    TAA - VVD - Doherty-Digne - Ferguson
    Salah - Auba - Armstrong - Ziyech - Bissouma
    Jimenez - Mitrovitch - Davies

Digne is a punt for now. I'm treating him like a 6m mid since there's no one in that price point that I like for now. As the season progresses If Everton let me down I can always down grade Digne to upgrade literally any other position as I still have 0.5 ITB.

If Everton do well I'll get into a good asset pretty early. Also will move from Auba to KDB so that will free up another 0.5m. The 442 really allows me to easily switch to a 352 or 343 depending on which assets perform.

    What do you all think?

    1. chilli con kone
      • 10 Years

Downgrade Digne to allow a VVD switch to Robertson and Werner

      1. Petrodollar
        • 4 Years
        3 years, 7 months ago

I can still do a switch to Robertson given i have 0.5 ITB. I'm on the fence with Werner for now. If i do go Werner I dont want to keep Ziyech tbh.

    2. Lebowski85
      • 11 Years

Im a fan. I like the premium defence. Be patient with it though. The issue I have had with similar setups is how to move on to the Utd Mids & Spurs attacking options. Sadly i think its one premium too many at the back, but if youre happy...go for it.

      1. Petrodollar
        • 4 Years
        3 years, 7 months ago

Yeah. I'm keeping Digne as a punt. If he does not work out i'll downgrade him to a 4.5 and have money ITB to upgrade any of my mids or forward.

Completely agree on keeping patience with defense if I want to go big. Everton scare me as I'm not sure which version will turn up. But they have a pretty sweet run of fixtures after Spurs.

      B

Vinagre is cheap option into wolves defense. Jimenez is a proven forward and Ritchie is well Ritchie.

Antonio's fixtures aren't appealing. If you said Mitro iso Antonio I'd have gone for A

What do you guys think of this ?

    Mccarthy Nyland
    TAA Davies Justin Vinagre Ferguson
    Son Auba Madison Alli Gordon
    Mitrovic Werner Martial

Davies could become any 5.0 Spurs der
Alli could be Ziyech ( hope for some pre-season intel)
Vinagre only of wolves don't sign a new LB

    I would do a -4 in GW2
    Alli/Ziyech + Auba => KDB + Fernandes

I like the Alli pick and also considering him but it is only a matter of time before he gets yet another injury.

Pretty sure fax is one of the legal ways to "hand" it in

Business, trade and government still use faxes on a daily basis. It’s archaic but it’s still also more secure in many ways than an email and much more formal if used properly.

Ideally which striker to start with?

    A) Kane
    B) Werner

Werner saves me £1m but is untested in the prem and with Kane I’m not sure regarding his effectiveness in Mourinho’s setup plus I own Son.

    Thanks in advance!

I’m going Kane - agree with your comments but Kane was scoring some pts at the end of last season. Not sure I’d double up with Son As well but not saying that’s a bad move with their fixtures.

BD for me. Werner May well be the real deal but I’d like to see it first.

I remember chasing Messi's car through London, pressing my face against the window with some other Brick End chavs chanting Ronaldo's name. He was going to play us in the streets but got scared and bailed. Cheers for the signed boots, though he did vow to never return to England. Ever. Again.

Thiago Silva at 5.5 or less could be a steal. Thoughts?

    Current GW1 Draft:

    McCarthy

    TAA - Egan - KWP

    Salah (C) - Auba - Son - ASM - Armstrong

    Werner - Mitro

    Bench: Nyland, Vinagre, Dallas, Davis.

    All thoughts welcome 🙂

P.S Am I the only one already wondering what on earth will happen to our teams if Messi does join the EPL...

Just brainstorming but how much of a gamble would Son AND Dele Alli be? No go or worth the shot?

Is Saint Max nailed for Newcastle ? Is he as good as people maintain ?

Pretty nailed barring injury. Many are going off a small sample, which is his performance after the restart. Pretty high conversion rate iirc.

I think nailed, but his starts aren't impressive enough for me. Looks good to watch, but I'd rather soucek tbh

Thanks...His points per minute are better than Soucek.

Anyone have any experience of rotating 2 GK or Def that always have home game?

    Thought?
    Opinions?
    Recommendation?

Am thinking of doing it this year, as in theory it seems a sensible option.

    Cheers
