Scout Network

Introducing the Scout Network for the 2020/21 FPL season

The Scout Network is a new initiative designed to highlight the great things going on in the Fantasy Football community.

The last few seasons have seen a boom in content creating, social media influencers and toolmakers within – so we want to help celebrate that.

The Scout Network is designed to highlight the very best voices from the community and share and develop the excellent platforms they have crafted.

It contains a variety of different people all adding something unique and different to the community. These creators all remain fully independent but they will be involved in various FFS activities throughout the season and there will be weekly articles looking at what the different members of the Network are doing.

There will be an article every week to shine the spotlight on a different member of the network as well as updates on everyone’s content.

The Network currently consists of:

Super Streamers

  • FPL BlackBox
  • FPL Family
  • Let’s Talk FPL
  • Ted Talks FPL
  • FPL Nymfria

Spotlight on El Statto

El Statto is one of the Social Stars of the Scout Network. He has worked hard to gain a loyal Twitter following through the mini league competitions that he runs and during the break from football set up his Instagram page and his own website:

“I’ve been going to football matches for as long as I can remember, as a kid standing on a milk crate on the terraces to see over the grown ups. I remember Fantasy Football when it launched in football magazines and have been playing it ever since.

“I’ve been playing FPL since the 2006/07 season, although with nobody else I knew playing, my interest each season would often only last a few months. It all changed about five years ago when the company I was working for told me about their mini league. My competitive edge was sparked and since then I have managed three finishes of 20k or better.

“Having listened regularly to Mark, Joe and Granville on the Scoutcast, I heard about the #FPL Twitter community and decided to make a dedicated account to fuel my ever increasing obsession with the game.

“In the early days my Twitter account was mostly to gain access to more data that I could analyse and use to make informed FPL, rather than offering anything in particular back. As my involvement in the community grew so did my contributions and I started writing blog post for other FPL content creators. This sparked my desire to play a more active role in the FPL community.

“When the enforced break occurred earlier this year I used the gap in the season as an opportunity to learn how to do some editing and started to publish short videos. These would often focus on a particular player and their FPL appeal, spurring a growth in followings over on Twitter and also lead to me setting up my Instagram page (@FPL_elstatto) which is the perfect platform for the graphic video content I make.

“I also decided I needed a better way to service my increasingly popular mini leagues. I have been running Twitterliga and Survivor for many seasons and every year the number of participants continues to grow – as such I felt it was time to find a platform to run those leagues from properly as opposed to simply tweeting about them.

“A week ago I launched https://jumpersforgoalposts.info  Originally I planned to only use the website to run mini league updates, but it has developed since its original conception.

“The website will continue to be about the mini league but will also be a platform for other projects including blogging articles from me as well as from some other members of the community as well as key projects and tools to aid FPL decision making. There are also some fun projects such as the FPL community predictions for the season – let’s see how many of the content creators made accurate predictions for the year!

“Pre-season is the time when everyone tinkers and brings players in because they’ve just scored in a friendly. I wanted to design myself a planner just for pre-season that focused on the first 10 games, and in particular the first five.

“A few hours later I had myself a spreadsheet taking into account fixture difficulty, the blank games and comparing my selected squad against the overall gameweek difficulty. Originally this tool was intended to help my own FPL planning for the new 2020/21 season, but I decided to share it on the website and within an afternoon it had over one thousand downloads. The response has been incredible! You can download your own copy here https://jumpersforgoalposts.info/pre-season-planner/

“This season is set to be a really exciting one with the continuation of projects set in motion last season as well as the new website, blog articles and tool making as well as now being part of the Scout Network.”

Keep an eye on the Scout Network and the weekly update articles for more on what El Statto and the rest of the network partners are up to this season.

Could Naby Keita finally come good for Liverpool and as an FPL option? Discuss x

I’d love to see it but don’t know if Klopp will play him enough. Seems he’d have to duke it out with Wij

At 5.5M definitely. He has settled now and looking much better. We needed him against Arsenal and when he came on, our attack clicked better.

If Thiago comes though, he may be benched.

Thoughts on this? Monitoring Justin and the minutes for Armstrong & Adams.

    McCarthy | Nyland
    TAA | Doherty | Justin | Vinagre | Mitchell
    Aubameyang | Salah | Son | Perez | Armstrong
    Adams | Werner | Wickham

Perez a risk but definitely a threat if he gets the minutes.

For sure. So far no minutes in pre-season I believe. If it continues like that, I will tinker my team. Probably get Mitrovic and invest 0.5M elsewhere.

Or go someone like Jota who's similar in that threatening when on the pitch. And without Europa and going back to 3 subs should get more minutes

I don't mind it. Different to a lot of people which isn't always a bad thing. If it was me I'd maybe drop Doherty to a 5m spurs option and upgrade stephens or romeu to a 5.5 option just to add some rotation flexibility with Ritchie

      Looks good.

I too would downgrade Doherty to bump up a 4.5 mid to a 5.5 - a lot doing in that price bracket

Starting GW2, after many iterations, it seems that I favour having two premium defenders, two premium (11.5 to 12m) midfielders plus either:

    A) Rashford(9.5) + Werner(9.5)
    B) Bruno(10.5) + Ings(8.5)

If Man U don't get bucket-loads of penalties again this season, which is the better investment long term.

Hard to call until we know if Werner comes through.

Rashford getting an extra point for every goal is what makes me want to have him. So I’d probably say A

Option C), which I haven't listed, is to go with one premium defender only and start with Ings+Werner and Rashford GW2 similar to the team in your post down the page.

One other consideration is Bruno would provide a third captain option, (rotating home and away with KDB). I don't know that I'd captain either Rashford or Werner unless the fixture was irresistible.

Would love if either Keita nails down a spot or Thiago comes and does the same...

Would be fantastic to have a creative mid with goal threat from LIV in the midprice bracket (hell, the cheap bracket for Keita!)

Tricky decision for 4th and 5th mids... (or rotating 4th mids in the last option)

    A) ASM (Gordon) + 0.5 ITB
    B) JWP
    C) Armstrong + 0.5 ITB
    D) Soucek+Ritchie + 0.5 ITB

I’m currently on Armstrong, as if he secured a starting spot he’d be on course to outscore JWP if last season PPM is anything to go by.

However, ASM also intrigues me (any takers???) tho Toon can be hot/cold, and as does Soucek Ritchie rotation, especially if Ritchie looks to be playing advanced... also heard about this WBA Pereira but dunno if he’s any good or too punty

Thoughts appreciated as always (Bottomed 🙂 )

I’ve got ASM but not set set on him. Podence and Schlupp also worth tempting. ASM does offer security of starts though.

Think Soucek could finish the season at 6.5/7 too - looks a real steal

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

Hmm yeah it’s a difficult decision. SOU fixtures were swinging me towards Armstrong / JWP as the best options, with Armstrong in for the reasons above.

But with KWP Ings I am kinda tempted to hedge my bets a bit more and punt on ASM, who I initially had.

Palace are a bit of a wait and see for me, not sure why but don’t really trust them. Podence not nailed is he?

& I could always go Soucek over Gordon, but not sure if the 0.5 ITB would be best used on a 4.5def (KWP/Vinagre) to 5.0, 4.0 to another 4.5 like BUR, or something else...

I was set on Armstrong until reading the report of their 7-1 thrashing of Swansea. It seems Bertrand was overlapping Armstrong a lot, meaning Armstrong didn't get forward much. Not sure if that was happening last season too, or a new tactic.

Really hard to call. For me I'd be more comfortable captaining Bruno than Rashford which I think is something you need to consider when bringing in premium players. But that's mainly due to free kicks and penalties. I think just having them up your sleeve can help players get big hauls.

Morning, had this for about a week and still happy with it, any gentle tearing apart appreciated. Rambling thoughts are below as well.

    McCarthy
    TAA Vinagre VVD 4.0
    Salah Auba Ziyech 4.5
    Werner Mitro

4.0 GK Greenwood Taylor 4.5 fwrd
    0.5 ITB

    - Auba to KDB/ Sterling in a few weeks
    - Should have 1M (or 0.9/ 0.8 left), can move Mitro to 6.5 later if needed or 4.5 def to Shaw/ Dier?
    - 4.5mid over Soucek as as only really would play GW1 for now
    - Could have Robertson over VVD but like the 0.5 ITB
    - Ziyech I like but not locked in for me, Vinagre can be another 4.5 if needed
    - If I really want Jiminez/ Ings could downgrade VVD later and Mitro up

    Any thoughts really welcome

Feels a little tight around that 7th/8th attacking spot. VVD will do that of course so maybe just edge him down to Doc, get Soucek then you can breathe a bit.

I like Ziyech too but the knock made me move him out for Alli for the start just now.

It’s a solid team. Personally I’m starting without any Manchester players at all, just feels wasteful benching £ when I have ways to bring them in.

Why’re you starting with Greenwood, and also why the faith in him given United are still looking to bring in players? (Id love to have him But unconvinced)

    TAA Robbo Vinagre Justin*
    Salah Auba Son Soucek
    Werner Mitro

    Bench: Steer, Mitchell, Gordon, Davis

*Justin could easily be swapped with another 4.5 if he doesn’t seem nailed.

    Plan:
    1.5ITB to do Son > Bruno GW2.

    Thanks all

Solid, apart from the bench obviously. Personally I'd downgrade Robbo to a Spurs 5m def, which gives you 2m to play with - if you went Son to Alli too, you could get Ings/Jimi for Mitro.

Anyone else considering setting team for GW1 then WC to put the team in they want going forward?

Rather annoyed with the key teams sitting out GW1 as reckon to have 3 or 4 in the side from the off.

Possibly depending on how GW1 goes

Zero chance of that, United don't have the fixture list to make it worth it and KDB is one FT away. Plus with Covid, transfers, DGWs to determine an early WC is unnecessarily risky.

This. The player who uses their WC in GW2 is the one who has given up by GW6.

No, just using careful planning at present. Feel the WC will be far more useful later on.

Anyone else considering just getting one big hitter in defence and going cheap for the remainder? Since project restart I can only recall 5 scoreless draws which means clean sheets may not be as prominent as many are giving them credit for.

I personally think it could be down to no fans, no one to get at the opposing team and lift the home team in the final stretch of games when legs and minds get tired...almost like the 12th man effect.

Obviously players like TAA offer attacking potential and that’s the great appeal but would it be wise to consider cheaper priced players who may concede but still can offer attacking threats going forward?

There aren't any cheap ones who realistically offer much attacking threat. Defence still offers the best value overall and I wouldn't want to waste that. Three season-keeping premium defenders are the foundation of my squad.

Yep, good plan. I will probably gets a Spurs 5m def, as well as TAA, 2x 4.5 and 1x 4m. Clean sheets are often more prevalent later in the season too, especially as defences often need some time to gel, or re-gel, after the summer (albeit a shorter break this year).

Already have Armstrong if that matters.

With Everton on the verge of signing Allan, James Rodriguez, and rumors of Doucoure. Everton is looking to start the season with a brand new midfield which was their weak point from last season. They have good opening fixtures, so does this make Rich and DCL hidden gems? Being an Everton Supporter I am biased, so I wanted to get others' thoughts on it.

I want to see how they gel first - got burnt by DCL last season - worth monitoring though

Same here. They ought to be far better, but I want to see exactly where their goals will come from.

The defense is more interesting to me, Digne and Holgate could be gold with those fixtures. Carlo knows how to manage a defense.

That's true, especially if they get Romeo in to replace Pickford. It just seems to me that at this point, for every Everton player that I mull over, there's someone else at that price point that I'd prioritise. Of course, a result v Spuds when I'm currently sitting on Kane/Alli/Doherty could change all that!

True, I'm considering Digne + Doherty instead of one over the other as I prefer Doherty. Didn't consider Pickford's impact, thanks!

How flexible would say this squad structure is:

    McCarthy
    TAA Vinagre Doherty Johnson
    Aubameyang Salah Ritchie Armstrong
    Werner Jiminez

    Nylaand Brewster Mitchell Rashford

Quite flexible, only that you need 2 FTs to get a 6.0-6.5 midfielder or a Kane/Vardy/Kun. Rest is good

I don't see these good fixtures. In the first 5 GWs, there's Villa and 4 tight defences.

Good/beauty in the eyes of beholder? Ars is pretty tight nowadays but still in London and FUL must br determined, Leeds is relegation rival and will not sit down so there's hope, villa improved but still not terrifying and wolves might be unstable now at the back.

Plus the peno duties, experience and ownership, can't look past him imo

Arsenal won't give up much to Fulham.

Can't see Leeds involved in a relegation battle; think they'll hold their own defensively but may struggle to score freely.

Villa don't have to be terrifying, just solid at the back. More likely they concede a little than a lot.

Wolves won't struggle defensively just because Doherty has left and Jonny is crocked.

Yeah maybe I'm blinded by the guy.. but then simply put, if FUL score mitro will be involved, can't say the same thing with adams given the talents around him. When will he score is more subjective though, and perhaps that set of fixtures deemed ugly to most people other than me. I can live with that 🙂

          1 for me.
Every draft I do ends up with a 6m striker slot, and I just don't want Mitro. I'm currently on Nketiah, with the intention that GW3 Auba/Nket > Martial/Pulisic or Ziyech.

I think Son/Alli are priced appropriately - both decent options depending on how that 1m can be used.

Martial looks slightly better priced to me.

    Werner, Ings (Martial)
