Scoutcast Episode 343 – Are Liverpool and Arsenal players key to Gameweek 1?

FPL managers can tell when they are only a few days from the start of a new season because niggling doubts, worries and second thoughts about players start creeping in.

That’s certainly the case amongst the Scoutcasters Joe and Az, who this week are joined by Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy.

Manchester United fan Andy is even doubting the points potential of Red Devil’s midfield hero Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m).

Meanwhile, Az is looking to start the 2020/21 campaign with two bargain basement midfielders. And Joe has found himself with not one, but two £6.0m midfielders, much to Az’s derision.

In this lively season opener, the crew nearly come to blows over defensive strategy, with Liverpool and Arsenal assets taking centre stage in the discussion. There’s also some tough talking when they chat about midfield and attacking options.

The Blank Gameweek 1 for both Manchester clubs is also looked at, as the Scoutcasters consider the best strategy to cope with the absence of these teams, as well as the need to bring in their assets during September.

Fixtures over the next four Gameweeks are frisked and Joe takes his turn in the hot seat to pick a differential to help FPL managers take an early lead. Well, that’s the plan.

        I think 4.
        Bellerin Holding Saliba Tierney

3 at the back relies on Luiz. I think Saliba's experience in a three is not in the middle. A lot of responsibility for a debut

No was just making the point that ‘could’ could precede any speculative statement. I think he’ll have point to prove though with all the new signings and I think Lampard will be keen to give him minutes after last season. I’ve certainly considered him but I have Havertz

Hi guys have a question, me and a few of the lads are arranging a cash league (I haven't participated in one before), what's the best way of securing payments beforehand? I've seen there's a few apps that facilitate this, but what's the best one?

    1. luke25
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

Can't advise but word of warning FPL have changed their rules saying if they find a league thats running for cash they will shut it down I believe

      1. KujaliaFC
        • 11 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

How can they succeed at that? Surely the league administrator can look at the ranks of all the members to know who won?

        1. luke25
          • 9 Years
          3 years, 6 months ago

I'm sure they can, I was just letting them know, they disqualified the winner last year for something outside of the game so never know. All it takes is someone doing bad in that cash league to report the owner of it

Well aware what it was for, I never said I didn't know. Fully agree with the decision, I'm just saying that FPL don't necessarily look solely within the FPL game to make decisions regarding suspensions etc.

Nice time now to look back at the teams I built right after fixtures released...

    McCarthy Nyland
    TAA Saliba Vinagre Ayling Ferguson
    Salah Auba Maddison Soucek Bissouma
    Kane Werner Mitrovic

That was my draft right after the fixtures released. Still looks okay honestly. Although Soucek, Vinagre and Saliba bandwagons have fallen apart.

    My team now looks like:

    McCarthy Walton
    TAA Dier KWP Justin Buur
    Auba Fernandes Son Havertz ASM
    Werner Wilson Vassilev

ASM and Justin are the slots I'm unsure on. I'm starting to sour on Justin because he's such a short-term solution. I don't want to be spending transfers on defense. Ayling is nailed. Leeds have a good system and a few good fixtures but he really doesn't fit the rotation well. I need cover in GW1, 2 and 4 and he only covers 2 well because in 1 he has LIV and 4 he has MCI.

ASM is best pick for first two weeks and then I can reevaluate (maybe Saka but a little too much uncertainty atm). Armstrong is a longer term pick, but he is less assured of a start and less explosive. Can always do ASM > Armstrong if I was wrong in GW3. So here we are.

Read on Reddit, Havertz is very likely to start while Ziyech is a major doubt. The guy claiming this is apparently has a good track record with Chelsea news & predictions. Also, Pulisic is within a shout. But if he is fit, I think he starts on the bench and probably will get some minutes later in the match to prepare for the Pool game next.

Looks great. ASM to Podence might be one to watch for week 3- hope he is nailed into Wolves team by then!

Arsenal good fixtures 1,2,4 so if Luiz out as seems to being suggested maybe Saliba or Holding get place. Egan would also be good as rotates with KWP but need to find.5 m.

ASM vs Saka is a tough one for me. Think ASM is definitely the better long term pick due to being nailed on but could see Saka doing really well for the first couple weeks. For those going with a 5.5m midfielder who do you prefer?

It's a dead heat right now. Leaning ASM for nailed-ness and better long term potential. Even if best case scenario happens and Saka hauls, he then runs into the worst set of fixtures imaginable in liv SHU mci LEI mun. Could barely handpick worse ones. You'd have to remove him and probably for a hit.
