Which FPL assets were involved in latest round of Nations League action?

All Fantasy Premier League assets have completed their last round of international duties ahead of the Gameweek 1 deadline.

With just a few days gap between Nations League action and Premier League responsibilities, there have been a few busy schedules for some players.

We have detailed which players were the most involved for their countries over the last week, to help you prepare for the new season.

ARSENAL

  • Bernd Leno (Germany) – Unused substitute | 90 minutes
  • Granit Xhaka (Switzerland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Sead Kolasinac (Bosnia and Herzegovina) – 84 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Kieran Tierney (Scotland) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Ainsley Maitland-Niles (England) – Unused substitute | 3 minutes

Kieran Tierney (£5.5m) played on the left-hand side of a back-three for Scotland, where he has been deployed for Arsenal recently. After playing 90 minutes in his country’s first Nations League match, the £5.5m man was given the night off for a win over the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka (£5.5m) got an assist for Switzerland as they were beaten 2-1 by Ukraine and Bernd Leno (£5.0m) got 90 minutes in one of Germany’s outings.

ASTON VILLA

  • Conor Hourihane (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • John McGinn (Scotland) – 79 minutes | 71 minutes
  • Tyrone Mings (England) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • Jack Grealish (England) – Unused substitute | 14 minutes

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

  • Aaron Connolly (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | 77 minutes
  • Joël Veltman (Netherlands) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Leandro Trossard (Belgium) – 10 minutes | Unused substitute

BURNLEY

  • Robbie Brady (Republic of Ireland) – 20 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Bailey Peacock-Farrell (Northern Ireland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Nick Pope (England) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute

Robbie Brady (£5.0m) was the only Burnley player of real note during the international break, as his corner was the one converted by Shane Duffy against Bulgaria.

CHELSEA

  • Antonio Rüdiger (Germany) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Timo Werner (Germany) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Kai Havertz (Germany) – Unused substitute | Not involved
  • Jorginho (Italy) – Unused substitute
  • Mason Mount (England) – Unused substitute | 30 minutes
  • Andreas Christensen (Denmark) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Mateo Kovačić (Croatia) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • N’Golo Kanté (France) – 90 minutes | 63 minutes
  • Olivier Giroud (France) – 90 minutes | 27 minutes
  • Michy Batshuayi (Belgium) – Not involved | 90 minutes
  • Tammy Abraham (England) – Not involved | Unused substitute

While Timo Werner (£9.5m) played 180 minutes across Germany’s two Nations League matches, he did add to his appeal by scoring in the first.

Meanwhile, owners of Kai Havertz (£8.5m) will be pleased at his distinct lack of involvement for Germany, an unused substitute in the first game and not involved at all in the second.

Elsewhere, Olivier Giroud (£7.0m) converted a penalty for France, while Mateo Kovačić (£5.5m) provided an assist for Croatia in the same match.

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Wayne Hennessey (Wales) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • James McCarthy (Republic of Ireland) – 70 minutes | Unused substitute

There was some potentially concerning news for Tyrick Mitchell (£4.0m) owners in the Republic of Ireland’s international break.

James McCarthy (£4.5m) got back from injury in their first Nations League match, which should bolster the central midfield options at Crystal Palace for Gameweek 1.

It could mean that Jairo Riedewald (£4.5m), who has played there for most of pre-season, could return to left-back duties and force Mitchell out of his position for the clash with Southampton.

EVERTON

  • Seamus Coleman (Republic of Ireland) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • Moise Kean (Italy) – 4 minutes | Not involved
  • Muhamed Bešić (Bosnia and Herzegovina) – 90 minutes | 60 minutes
  • Jordan Pickford (England) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Michael Keane (England) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • Jonas Lössl (Denmark) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • Lucas Digne (France) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Gylfi Sigurdsson (Iceland) – Not involved | 90 minutes

FULHAM

  • Aleksandar Mitrović (Serbia) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Stefan Johansen (Norway) – 90 minutes | 71 minutes
  • Marek Rodák (Slovakia) – Unused substitute | 90 minutes

Aleksandar Mitrović‘s (£6.0m) preparation for the start of the Premier League season was satisfactory as he found the net in Serbia’s 3-1 defeat to Russia.

Elsewhere, Stefan Johansen (£5.0m) provided an assist as Norway ran out 5-1 winners against Northern Ireland.

LEEDS UNITED

  • Robin Koch (Germany) – 4 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Rodrigo Moreno (Spain) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Mateusz Klich (Poland) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Stuart Dallas (Northern Ireland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Kalvin Phillips (England) – Unused substitute | 76 minutes
  • Ezgjan Alioski (North Macedonia) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes

Rodrigo Moreno (£6.0m) missed two big chances to score against Germany but did manage to get the assist for Gayà’s last-minute equaliser.

Just as Stuart Dallas (£4.5m) did for Northern Ireland, Ezgjan Alioski (£4.5m) played 90 minutes in both matches of the international break at left-back. He even went one better, netting a penalty in North Macedonia’s 2-1 win over Armenia.

LIVERPOOL

  • Caoimhin Kelleher (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Harry Wilson (Wales) – 45 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Neco Williams (Wales) – 30 minutes | 25 minutes
  • Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Georginio Wijnaldum (Netherlands) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Andrew Robertson (Scotland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Liam Cooper (Scotland) – Unused substitute | 90 minutes
  • Joe Gomez (England) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold (England) – 17 minutes | 87 minutes

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) was eased back from injury during England’s two Nations League matches, with 17 and 87-minute outings against Iceland and Denmark respectively.

Neco Williams (£4.0m) reminded Jurgen Klopp he means business this season, emerging from the substitutes’ bench to score an all-important last-minute winner for Wales against Bulgaria.

LEICESTER CITY

  • Çaglar Söyüncü (Turkey) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Danny Ward (Wales) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Timothy Castagne (Belgium) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Youri Tielemans (Belgium) – 88 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Dennis Praet (Belgium) – 33 minutes | Unused substitute

MANCHESTER CITY

  • Ilkay Gündogan (Germany) – 74 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Ferran Torres (Spain) – 90 minutes | 16 minutes
  • Rodri (Spain) – Unused substitute | 69 minutes
  • Oleksandr Zinchenko (Ukraine) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes

  • Kyle Walker (England) – 70 minutes | Suspended
  • Phil Foden (England) – 68 minutes | Not involved
  • Raheem Sterling (England) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • João Cancelo (Portugal) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Bernardo Silva (Portugal) – 78 minutes | 22 minutes
  • Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) – Not involved | 80 minutes

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) was the only Englishman on the score sheet over the international break. He netted a late penalty against Iceland, which he won himself by forcing a handball from Sverrir Ingason.

Manchester City’s new signing Ferran Torres (£7.0m) impressed in both outings for Spain, scoring in the second one, a 4-0 win over Ukraine.

João Cancelo (£5.5m) scored for Portugal against Croatia and Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) provided an assist. In the second of the two matches, a 2-0 win over Sweden, the midfielder was forced off with a muscle-related issue. While that could open up some spots in the Manchester City team, they don’t play their first game of the season until Gameweek 2.

Nathan Aké (£5.5m) also had his international game-time curtailed by a knock sustained 81 minutes into the Netherlands 1-0 defeat to Italy, perhaps of some slight concern, considering Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m) is isolating from a positive coronavirus test.

Elsewhere, Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.5m), who plays in midfield for his country, netted the winner as Ukraine beat Switzerland 2-1. Ilkay Gündogan (£5.5m) was also on the scoresheet against the Swiss, as he struck the only goal of Germany’s 1-1 draw.

MANCHESTER UNITED

  • David de Gea (Spain) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Daniel James (Wales) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Donny van de Beek (Netherlands) – 16 minutes | 57 minutes

  • Mason Greenwood (England) – 12 minutes | Not involved
  • Dean Henderson (England) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • Bruno Fernandes (Portugal) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Victor Lindelöf (Sweden) – 90 minutes | Not involved
  • Anthony Martial (France) – 13 minutes | 90 minutes

Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) played 90 minutes in both of Portugal’s Nations League games, and assisted in the win over Croatia.

Daniel James (£6.5m) was a provider in Wales 1-0 win against Finland and Anthony Martial (£9.0m) added an assist in France’s 4-2 defeat of Croatia.

Elsewhere, Scott McTominay (£5.0m) spent both of Scotland’s outings in the back-three alongside Tierney.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

  • Jeff Hendrick (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Jamal Lewis (Northern Ireland) – 90 minutes | Not involved

SHEFFIELD UNITED

  • John Egan (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Enda Stevens (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Ethan Ampadu (Wales) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Sander Berge (Norway) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Oliver Burke (Scotland) – 16 minutes | Unused substitute
  • John Fleck (Scotland) – Unused substitute | 71 minutes
  • David McGoldrick (Republic of Ireland) – Not involved | 24 minutes

With Billy Sharp (£6.0m) impressing in his absence during pre-season, David McGoldrick (£5.5m) finally made his first appearance of the summer, coming in the final 24 minutes of the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 home defeat to Finland.

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Shane Long (Republic of Ireland) – 13 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Jan Bednarek (Poland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Stuart Armstrong (Scotland) – 11 minutes | 80 minutes
  • James Ward-Prowse (England) – 90 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Danny Ings (England) – 22 minutes | Unused substitute
  • Jannik Vestergaard (Denmark) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute

Danny Ings (£8.5m) should be fresh for the start of the new season given his limited involvement with England.

The Southampton man was handed 22 minutes against Iceland before warming the bench all evening as the Three Lions drew 0-0 with Denmark.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

  • Matt Doherty (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Ben Davies (Wales) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes

  • Hugo Lloris (France) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Moussa Sissoko (France) – Unused substitute | 90 minutes

Steven Bergwijn (£7.5m) was the only Spurs player to find the net in the most recent round of Nations League matches, scoring for the Netherlands in a 1-0 win over Poland.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION

  • Callum Robinson – 16 minutes | 31 minutes
  • Hal Robson-Kanu – Unused substitute | 29 minutes
  • Kamil Grosicki (Poland) – 19 minutes | 80 minutes

WEST HAM UNITED

  • Andriy Yarmolenko (Ukraine) – 90 minutes | 79 minutes
  • Darren Randolph (Republic of Ireland) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes
  • Lukasz Fabianski (Poland) – Unused substitute | 90 minutes
  • Declan Rice (England) – 90 minutes | 90 minutes

Tomas Soucek (£5.0m) was not involved for the Czech Republic at all over the international break while Andriy Yarmolenko (£6.0m) scored in a 2-1 win over Switzerland for Ukraine.

WOLVES

  • Conor Coady (England) – Unused substitute | 90 minutes
  • Leander Dendoncker (Belgium) – Unused substitute | Unused substitute
  • João Moutinho (Portugal) – 82 minutes | 73 minutes
  • Diogo Jota (Portugal) – 90 minutes | 9 minutes
  • Ruben Neves (Portugal) – 17 minutes
  • Rui Patrício (Portugal) – Not involved | Unused substitute

Most of Wolves’ squad were treated to a break from international duty over the last few days.

Diogo Jota (£6.5m) scored as Portugal ran out 4-1 winners over Croatia.

      7.
I do not feel Sheff Utd can go anywhere near what they did last term, and I have heavy concerns about James's health, he seems to me to become more fragile and injury prone season after season. Classy player, no doubt, but I wouldn't get him.
The rest is ok. Strikers are 1st and 2nd in my personal ranking.

Thanks. Sheff Utd have good fixtures and reinforcements, despite lacking Henderson. So I think they'll be fine.
Nobody in midfield 7.5m or below really appeals to me, so I decided to punt on James

I have a bit too much time on my hands lately so I've had a look at each teams fixtures and when we should look at getting them in. Working off the general principle that any player you transfer in should be good for 6-8 GWs or so. Also working off a lot of personal assumptions about how I feel teams will do during the season. A lot of this will be obvious stuff but I'm trying to focus my attention to more long term thinking/planning this season and targeting fixtures in advance.

Arsenal - Barring Auba, I think avoid until GW8. Arsenal are quite an unsettled/unpredictable line-up, two good early fixtures but horrid ones after. Some of Leno/Martinez, Tierney, Saliba, Saka, Nketiah etc will become good options from GW8.

Aston Villa - GW9-15 fixtures couldn't be better. They are neither a free-flowing or a particularly solid defensive side so interest in assets might be understandably low. Grealish the talisman could be good for this run and we will know how Watkins is faring by then.

Brighton - One of the teams that don't have a stand out great run of fixtures. GW4-9 is ok. If Potter rotates as heavily as he did last season, this might dent hopes of viable assets. If he shows a relatively settled team selection, Trossard or Lamptey/White are of moderate interest.

Burnley - Can't really start with them due to blank GW1 and they don't have a great run at any stage early doors, some tough home fixtures mixed with easier away ones. Maybe GW11-17. Personally think they will struggle this season. Wood might emerge as one of the best mid-price forward options.

Chelsea - From GW3, fixtures decent right up until Christmas. Some very exciting options going forward and having 2 of Havertz, Pulisic, Zieych and Werner will be popular. I also have a keen eye on their defense - James or Zouma at 5mil could be good value if it looks like they will play most GWs. So a triple up is certainly not out of the question.

Crystal Palace - Great fixtures from GW5-13. They are a bit of an unknown quantity in defense with the injuries so worth monitoring. Zaha for this good run could be a decent option if OOP. Also think they could struggle this season.

Everton - Play mostly bottom half sides from GW2-11 with exception of Liverpool and Man Utd. New midfield so might need time to gel and settle but taking a risk on them GW2 might reap benefits. Pickford, Keane and Coleman might be a good shout at 5mil as I can see decent amount of CS if they tighten up under Ancollotti like I expect them too. Forwards might be a tad expensive but DCL or Rich being up there with top scoring forwards after GW4 not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Fulham - Decent set of fixtures GW1-9 but looks like they will struggle to make much of an impact in PL and FPL. Mitrovic is the obvious FPL target - talisman, nailed, pens, decent PL and C'ship goalscoring record, cheap enough at 6mil. If Areola signs and comes in at 4.5, he could be a good option up to GW9 for those who don't fancy McCarthy or Ryan.

Leeds - Tough opening fixtures make them a wait and see. Will they take more after Wolves or Norwich as C'ship winners coming up to PL? GW12-30 they have mostly good fixtures, 2 good 1 bad sort of pattern. I think it's mostly a wait and see until then.

Leicester - Trip to Man City aside, they have decent opening fixtures. Their purple patch of fixtures doesn't come until the new year. Question marks over their team: Evans, Ricardo and Chilwell were a huge part of their success last season both offensively and defensively. Maddison missing dents their creativity going forward also. Barnes and Perez might be decent punts but overall I personally think Leicester will regress this season and their players are slightly overpriced in general as a result.

Liverpool - Pretty much fixture proof, although possibly mightn't get into their CS groove until GW4. TAA is a staple in most teams for a reason and defensive double up may pay dividends long term, but I'm waiting to scout them in GW1-3 before committing. Can Pool keep up their remarkable consistency? I think they may regress slightly this season but still should have plenty to be amongst the highest FPL scorers. Henderson is very important to them so worth monitoring his injury status during the season. With more premium options in mid this season, Salah and Mane may become more differential than ever before.

Man City - Again, relatively fixture proof. GW10-22 look prime for points, especially home fixtures vs Wba, New, Bha, Cpl, Shu and possibly DGW in there too. Triple up during this period looks like it could prove very productive, defensively also if Laporte is fit. Pep roulette will keep things interesting as always. Potentially great value in Foden if it looks like he's going to get 2 out of every 3 games.

Man Utd - Blank GW1 obviously but decent/good fixtures from GW2-11. Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea at home in the middle of this run but 5 or 6 games are against bottom half teams. Might be a case of trying to get assets in early (GW2) or wait until GW7/8. To me, Utd assets have obvious potential but are unlikely to replicate the run they had after restart, which was against weak opposition. I think Utd assets are not cheap, but are fairly priced. Bit of a conundrum on each of them, none of them are obvious picks but all are possible. Greenwood might be the best option if Sancho doesn’t sign imo. CL to contend with also might complicate things. Could be value in their defence, if AWB chips in with a few assists he could be one of the top scoring defenders by the end of the season.

Newcastle - Good fixtures in the first 2 but their best run comes from GW7-14. A lot will depend on whether Wilson and Fraser can replicate their previous best form at Bou. If so, both could be great for this run. ASM also is one of the best 5.5 options. Defense is a bit of a mixed bag but someone like Lascelles at 4.5 won't go too far wrong.

Sheffield Utd - Quite decent fixtures GW1-5, horrible GW6-8 and good again from GW9-18. Not sure if they will be as good defensively this season but Ramsdale might be a good option so long as their form doesn't dip too much. Ampadu is one I'm certainly watching - if he can nail down a starting spot he will be a great option from GW9. Oliver Burke joining from West Brom as a 4.5mid will be one to watch also.

Southampton - GW1-12 are pretty good, particularly GW1-8. Can see good value in their defense with these fixtures, considering they were pretty solid for the 2nd half of last season. Looks like there is potential value throughout the team as they have potential to score also. Can see them having a good start to the season and a triple up is not out of the question with their value.

Spurs - Possibly the best set of opening fixtures, especially an ideal run from GW5-8. Fixture congestion could be a potential problem. Expecting Spurs to show decent improving defensive stats, although part of me worries if the probable first choice backline of Alder, Dier and Davies have seen better days. Still, Dier and/or Davies should prove good value. Attacking assets are fairly priced. Kane could be a great captaincy option in GW5-8 as he will be in his stride by then, and if Kane ever gets injured, Son will be a real bargain at 9mil OOP.

West Brom - Not a terrible set of opening fixtures but as favourites for relegation, I can't see many managers going with West Brom assets. Periera and Diangana should be central to their attacking hopes but with Lei Eve Che in their first 3 GWs, they fall into the punty category.

West Ham - Well-publisized horrible opening set of fixtures. GW8-20 look good though and Soucek could make a mockery of his price during this run. Bowen one to watch also. Defensively I don't think they will ever be a very attractive proposition, although Diop might fill a gap as a cheap defender during this run.

Wolves - GW3-7 looks potentially ideal but tough fixtures following until things clear in GW17. Traditionally they can do well against better teams so fixtures not so much of an issue historically. The picture in defense looks a bit unclear and I don't think they've had the best transfer window. Ideally scout GW1-2 and bring in the first choice wing backs for GW3, but managers probably have other uses for their transfers at that stage. Jimenez is perhaps an under-rated option again this season. Bargains to be had if any of Jota, Podence or Neto become nailed. With no Europe, Nuno might revert to a settled first 11.

    So to summarise:
-Pool, City and then Chelsea and Utd are relatively fixture proof. Ideally Chelsea from GW3, Pool from GW4, City from GW10 look particularly great.
-Fixture swing at about GW8/9, could be ideal for those who hold their WC until then. Spurs, Southampton, Fulham, Wolves out and Arsenal, City, West Ham, Sheff Utd, Newcastle, Villa in. Lots of options and we will have lots of info by then.

      Wow

Where do you stand on Doh? He's one of the final pieces of the jigsaw for me.

Also do you have thoughts on Alli? Nailed or does he lose significant time to Lo Celso. He's likely a short termer as he occupies what I see as one of my revolving slots - unless of course he fires

I would have preferred Doherty to have stayed at Wolves. Aurier still about at Spurs and they have a lot of fixtures so there might be rotation. Doh is quite a unique player - if he is RB in a back 4 I don't see him having the same license to roam into the box like he did for Wolves.

Alli is a decent option. I had him in some of my drafts but think I'm now set on Son. I just think it's been quite a long time since Alli was at his best and I'm not sure if he will ever get back there. Might have minutes managed also and is injury prone.

Also I think Spurs assets best run is from 5-8. I think I'm happy to commit to keeping Son for the first 8 GWs but don't know if I'd have that patience with Alli. Was considering him as a placeholder for Chelsea mids but I don't think Everton and Southampton are amazing fixtures for him (esp since I'm going with double Sou defense!).

Pretty much agreed about weeks 1-4. Middling to good only to my mind overall.

Edging towards Alli as it's less of a commitment than Harry or Son. Chelsea swap should be straightforward enough

On Alli, I thnk if he stays fit he will be amazing under Mou. Did well initially but all comes down to the injuries I guess.

I had Doherty which meant I took Alli over Son but now, as you say, with Aurier still about I have the option to swap back. Think Alli with his differential pick is worth the early punt though.

Who would you go with out of the 5m defs at Spurs?

    Evening all,

Posted this before but didn’t get too many responses, so posting again.

I am pretty settled but I want 0.5 ITB.
    Any thoughts?

I fancy rashford over Bruno which would give me this but nervous about his injury.

Not to be confused with Areola of course - which is the small circular ring of pigmented skin surrounding a nipple

Or maybe Fulham have in fact signed a giant nipple to play in goal...

I am 70:30 for going without Salah.

    Reasons:
I wont captain him for a while.
If he is not my captain then I can better spend those money elsewhere
Actually he is not that owned he is below 30% and with captaincy he might be around 50% so even if he delivers double digit scores it should be ok
Saving a transfer for GW2 which will give me advantage
Having extra 1.5m to play, meaning if I start him and transfer him to Bruno in GW 2 I will have 1.5m sitting on the bench for at least 2 GW's (KDB in in GW3) unless I do a hit.

Bottom line. The value of a free transfer, having 1.5m extra to play with and not giving the armband to Salah in first several GWs is prevailing.

How big couch I will need for hiding for GW1?

    1. pingissimus
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

      Solid reasoning

EO doesn't in fact bother me. It works both ways and not owning an asset like that can give you a shove up too and there's always the chance that your distribution of funds will be as effective

Saving the transfer and non captaincy are the big deals for me. Not having the simple move to Bruno the downside.

      1. FPL Daniel
        • 14 Years
        3 years, 6 months ago

It's not a downside I have Bruno because I dont have Salah from the start
