Doherty makes Spurs debut as Everton hand starts to three summer signings

Following on from Leicester City’s 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion, the second Premier League match of the day sees Tottenham Hotspur take on Everton.

Kick-off in north London is at 16:30 BST.

The headline team news is that all five major summer signings from these two clubs are handed their full debuts today.

Matt Doherty (£6.0m) makes his Spurs bow at right-back, with Serge Aurier (£5.5m) relegated to the bench.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£5.0m) also slots straight into central midfield, as expected.

Having not featured for the Lilywhites in pre-season thanks to self-isolation and international duty, Harry Kane (£10.5m) is back to lead the line.

Son Heung-min (£9.0m), Dele Alli (£8.0m) and Lucas Moura (£7.0m) will support the England international in attack.

All of Everton’s three summer signings make their full debuts, with central midfielders Allan (£5.5m) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.5m) selected in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI.

James Rodriguez (£7.5m) also makes the cut, despite having started just one league match in the last 11 months.

Son and Doherty are the most-owned players on show here, with both players boasting double-digit ownerships.

Kane was the fourth-most-popular captaincy pick in Gameweek 1, with just over 300,000 FPL managers handing him the armband.

Richarlison (£8.0m), who may well be occupying a wide-midfield role based on Everton’s starting XI, is the only Toffee with an FPL ownership of over 10%.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Doherty, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies, Hojbjerg, Winks, Dele, Lucas, Son, Kane.

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Mina, Keane, Digne, Allan, Gomes, Doucoure, Rodriguez, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.

What to do with Alli.....got Werner so probably won’t double up Chelsea yet and will wait until games complete

    A Keep or transfer to
    B Greenwood
    C JRod
D Bruno with Ings to Wilson -4 (damn .5 short of DCL)
E JRod with Ings to Martial - 4 with .5 left in bank

    McCarthy
    TAA Dier Egan Justin
    Salah Aubameyang Alli * ASM
    Werner Ings*

    Button KWP Burke Brewster

I like E but ideally you want a Chelsea mid for that spot.

Thanks. I know - could just get Pulisic or Havertz on free and keep Ings, or shift Ings to DCL -4. But means no United easy to get as probably Aubameyang to KDB following week- unless just let Salah go of course....

      yes, very very curious

If they flop and seem out if it then WCs will be imminent

C Wilson scored and looked good.

Barnes posted good numbers and will return soon.

Ings (as much as it pains me) is easiest to switch. I’d actually look at richarlison. Could have got 2-3 goals easy today and Everton have great fixtures

    Justin - TAA - Davies
    Salah - Auba - ASM - Alli
    Adams - Ings - Werner

    What needs changing here?
    A) Adams -> Wilson (free)

    C) Alli & Ings -> Bruno & Wilson (-4)

But I wouldn't say your way is right either. Salah had a really good performance. He looked lively, scored a goal from open play as well as two pens. Current form should also be considered.

A lot of the justification for moving Salah on is predicated on the fact he's off form and unlikely to return well. He showed in the most recent game that he's very much match fit with an eye for goal.

Haha come on you were going without him till like Thursday/Friday?
Salah scoring 2 penalties doesn't make his fixtures better or United's attackers worse options. I'm just trying to capitalise on a good GW1 till now. Can't see it backfiring too much specially with next 2 fixtures for Pool & Soton. And it'll be probably be only a -4 for Bruno & Tony.

Dominic Calvert Lewin, one of the worlds best forwards, is essential.

And yet I wouldn’t be confident in many returns from Adams in any of the next 6 gameweeks apart from GW4. I can see DCL returning in his next 3. I reckon that hit will repay itself.

Not in my opinion. I didn't see the Saints game as was working, but Ings has some excellent fixtures in the next 10. I have Ings but will keep for 2 more weeks. Martial is a good player too with good fixtures, but stats were no better than Ings last season, so it is sideways. But if you really fancy Martial at home to Palace then go for it.

Same, I was around 10th in my main mini league last season close to Christmas and win it at 81k. Only thing I think I really learned is don't waste a valuable WC gw2 like last few years and play the fixtures more aggressively this year.

    2. Son to Rashford
    3. Ings Son to Vardy James/Greenwood -4
    4. Ings Son to DCL Bruno -4

I have a feeling that United are not good as yet, its going to be a disappointing GW2.

That's me too! Was pretty keen to stick to my guns, but getting blown out of the water is a bit hard to take.

What's your other transfer...Martial in, i'm guessing? I'm all for a hit early on (although I'm not a regular top 100 finisher, so maybe I'm speaking rubbish)!

Am surprised so many doing moves like Ings to Martial etc before even seeing Utd play and also Palace looking pretty organised. Also Ings has Spurs next?

I was tempted also by Adams out for Martial for a hit but surely another week to wait makes more sense?

That's the thing, Palace didn't really look organized. Southampton were just poor. Both Ings and Adams had a big chance missed. Ward-Prowse had a poor game too.

Fair enough just not surprised people not giving Ings one more week. Maybe I'm trying to convince myself to relax and not rush! ha

Wouldn’t do it for a hit but for free it’s a decent move

I think the GW1 striker to Martial was a standard plan to avoid selecting Martial and benching in the first GW, but having him as a captain option for GW2.

I'm not surprised. But I'm also not one of the people that thought Ings was remotely worth his price.
Martial will have a good season imo

      What you gone with?

        McCarthy, Ryan
        James, Shaw, Coleman, Dier, Gabriel
Auba (C), Bruno, Greenwood, Foden, James
        DCL, Werner, Vassilev

1.0m ITB, Auba to KDB next week..

But wildcard so have the whole week again 😀

To be honest I followed Joshua Bull's advice and was focusing on who I wanted to get rid off... unfortunately I had Kane, Pereira, Mitro, triple pool defence and 32 points! 🙂

Now thinking of going more average and rotate even a bit with defence...also okay to have Foden with good bench.

And Everton looked great and have incredible next 3.

    Thoughts on DCL?

I don't know what to think. On the one hand he scored a good goal, but on the other, he was pretty peripheral compared to Rich and James. He had one decent attempted assist as well but otherwise was a typical DCL unselfish workman performance.

He's a striker, it doesn't matter if he's peripheral if he scores. 16 xG last year with no midfield, people absolutely blinded by post-lockdown form. With Rodriguez and Ancelotti's offensive system, he should be an excellent option.

I've got him, but if I had the choice of go for Rich

Seemed sharp but didn't have many chances. I think people are overhyping what we saw today. Poor finisher as everyone knows.

As with most strikers, he’s a confidence player. Seems to score well in patches. Scored a couple pre-season and again today. Looking at how well Everton set up today and at their next three fixtures, he’s a great option for the upcoming period.

He was, along with Doherty, the closest to scoring first half. Looked his lazy self but after he was taken off, Spurs were pish offensively.
