Doherty makes Spurs debut as Everton hand starts to three summer signings

Following on from Leicester City’s 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion, the second Premier League match of the day sees Tottenham Hotspur take on Everton.

Kick-off in north London is at 16:30 BST.

The headline team news is that all five major summer signings from these two clubs are handed their full debuts today.

Matt Doherty (£6.0m) makes his Spurs bow at right-back, with Serge Aurier (£5.5m) relegated to the bench.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£5.0m) also slots straight into central midfield, as expected.

Having not featured for the Lilywhites in pre-season thanks to self-isolation and international duty, Harry Kane (£10.5m) is back to lead the line.

Son Heung-min (£9.0m), Dele Alli (£8.0m) and Lucas Moura (£7.0m) will support the England international in attack.

All of Everton’s three summer signings make their full debuts, with central midfielders Allan (£5.5m) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.5m) selected in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI.

James Rodriguez (£7.5m) also makes the cut, despite having started just one league match in the last 11 months.

Son and Doherty are the most-owned players on show here, with both players boasting double-digit ownerships.

Kane was the fourth-most-popular captaincy pick in Gameweek 1, with just over 300,000 FPL managers handing him the armband.

Richarlison (£8.0m), who may well be occupying a wide-midfield role based on Everton’s starting XI, is the only Toffee with an FPL ownership of over 10%.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Doherty, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies, Hojbjerg, Winks, Dele, Lucas, Son, Kane.

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Mina, Keane, Digne, Allan, Gomes, Doucoure, Rodriguez, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.

When do the players go up in price?

Wildcarding but don’t want to do it tonight

Why? You can already see who’s not at the races. Need to get Salah also.

Just do it tonight. You can do as many changes as you wish until the next deadline.

If you are 100% sure you are wildcarding, there is no reason to wait if you are worries about price changes. You can make unlimited transfers up until deadline.

Thoughts on Rashford. Will he start next week? Played in friendly today I Believe.

Fixtures over form makes perfect sense for almost every FPL player.

Vardy was in front of us. But most ignored because of many reasons. Only way to climbing up this season is using FT carefully on attackers as their are freaking many of them

That's it though, you can't have them all. Besides, I'm not sure I'd want Vardy after GW2 and the plan is already in place to get rid of Aubameyang that week. So no regrets 🙂

        He's ok enough in 3 and 4

Burnley away are not the same as at home and City concede and then there's a juicy one in 4 you'll miss if you lose him now.

Form matters too. He's a very streaky player. Consistent gif you prefer.

You're not wrong, but there are other strikers I prefer so I wouldn't really consider Vardy for an extended period

He's in for me while he's hot and there are some nice ones down the line.

He's also my effective cheap power mid - may well send him to be Bruno in a bit. But United fixtures don't look that sexy to me so no real rush until they show they're hot hot hot

You're right about the latter though. I'm not normally a knee jerker, but James is so tempting... Just no room for him though

I'm saying overall. We ignored Vardy and gone with Kane Martial etc....

In fairness, besides being 0.5 cheaper, Vardy didn't really have anything that Kane didn't. Good fixtures, pens... If anything Kane had the better form too, if taking post-lockdown into account

Certain fixtures for sure - not all "green" fixtures. Some are less green than they appear. Hopping around perfectly ok players is just an effective minus 4 for me - nowadays 🙂

I agree with this I think we will witness a lot of hauls this year given the amount of talent and attacking teams in the league.

Great fixture but the Leicester crash landing in 2019/2020 put people off Leicester and Vardy

ManUtd asset to have? Martial and Bruno the main contenders - anyone has some good rationale for peaking one over the other?

I wouldn't be looking beyond those two at this point of time.

I started with Shaw, Rashford and Martial. Rashford over Bruno was purely because I decided I wanted a playing bench over COVID.

      • 5 Years

      Yes

But if Rashford gets hot you get him over Bruno - very streaky player. Horrid when he's off it but great and more so as a mid when he's on it

Bruno for points Martial for value. Either. Just where you want your money I think

United are capable playing just as boring as Spurs. It won’t be guaranteed goal fest agains Palace

Those who are struggling to get United attackers will say this only.

And those who have looked at the fixture list 🙂

2/3 decent ones early but then a really nasty run. Don't see the need to overcommit too United. Is Palace a better match up than Spurs say if you are going Ings Martial

People are running away from Ings just because he faced Palace!

One quite enough imo until proven otherwise and not that necessary.

I'm more than happy to wait a week and assess then tbh. 2 FTs for GW3 seems fine.

Yep. I’m trying to work out if there is logic in waiting a week to see how they perform? You don’t have to have one so why rush into it?
I could do kane to martial. Kane was rubbish today but after two matches if he is still rubbish I should Definitely sell. If I sell now kane could haul and martial/ utd could be poor. Or both could be poor. Or both could haul. But two out of those four options save a FT so better to roll?

Palace are always a well organised side. Only time they let in a fair few is when they concede early and have to go for it.

    Could use some advice:
    A) Auba and Mane > KDB and Bruno?
    B) Mane and Ings > KDB and Martial
    C) Neither

Everton looking like a much more solid unit with Allan & Docoure in midfield.
They certainly don't look like shipping as many goals as they did last season. Lots were expecting them to concede against Spurs. Will have to start considering this when looking at fixtures.

Seems that Spurs have an athleticism issue in defense. Can they really afford to let Doherty roam when the kid has no pace to cover - Alderweireld too, looked like dog meat today
