Vinagre and Jota benched as Lundstram reclaims Sheff Utd midfield berth

Fantasy Premier League managers have been denied a £4.5m route into Wolves defence for their opening match of the season.

Ruben Vinagre (£4.5m) has been named on the bench for the Gameweek 1 trip to Sheffield United, joined there by Oskar Buur (£4.0m).

Despite Nuno Espirito Santo declaring in his Friday press conference that new signing Fernando Marçal (£5.0m) needed time to adapt to Wolves’ style of playing, the manager has started him at left wing-back anyway.

With Matt Doherty (£6.0m) having left the club for Spurs, Adama Traoré (£6.5m) has been trusted with the wing-back position on the other side of the pitch, rather than 22-year-old Buur.

Also on the Wolves bench is recently reclassified FPL midfielder Diogo Jota (£6.5m), beaten to a place in the front-three by Daniel Podence (£5.5m) and Pedro Neto (£5.5m).

The two wide-men flank Raúl Jiménez (£8.5m) who comes into Gameweek 1 with 18.5% worldwide ownership.

John Egan (£5.0m) and John Lundstram (£5.5m) are the most fashionable Sheffield United assets for tonight’s game, sat in 16.6% and 12.7% of teams respectively.

Both feature in the Blades’ starting line-up, which also includes Jack O’Connell (£5.0m), who missed every pre-season game, while the summer’s top-scorer Billy Sharp (£6.0m) features alongside Oli McBurnie (£6.0m).

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-3): Patrício; Saïss, Coady, Boly; Marçal, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Traoré; Podence, Jiménez, Neto.

Sheffield United XI (3-5-2): Ramsdale; O’Connell, Egan, Basham; Stevens, Fleck, Norwood, Lundstram, Baldock; McBurnie, Sharp.

I knew Vinagre was no good. Marcal is signed as backup. Backup to Jonny.

Does he have stamina? A wing back is asked to do 2 jobs. It’s a tough role.

I think so, the concern is his positioning and defending.
3-5-2 Is generally seen as defensive but when you have a well organised back 3 and intelligent dm's then it can be helluva attacking. If Nuno wants Troare then that's the only obvious position for him to nail. Martin O'Neill did it well for Celtic in particular 10 years or do ago.

      Traore is wasted at WB

Preferably would include both Bruno and Martial however, it is not possible as wanna keep Salah while Auba will become KDB/Sterling.

That leaves me with either only Bruno, or Martial plus Rashford (In place of Son in ~2 weeks, need 0.5 more). Said that, having Bruno would allow me to bring DCL - Everton's fixtures look really exciting.

    Thoughts ?

Yes, why do you want a player for 10.5m if you will not captain him until GW9. It's better to have Robbo and TAA for example than Bruno and a 4.0. Do ye understand?

I've never taken more than a -8. So facing a -12 to do what I want would prompt a wildcard.

That's changes I really want to make though. The small tweaks you make on a wildcard don't count.

It’s often a disaster in defence that triggers early wildcards.

Plenty of popular 4.5s (saliba, vinagre) either benched or soon to be (Justin, holding). Doh/Davies/taa blank. Digne showing form.

            What's shite about it?

Don't judge your team on 1 game..

Well certainly Alli and Vinagre are looking pretty worrying...

Vinagre comes on for sure. The wing backs will be taken off at some point. Only injuries elsewhere might change that.

            James, Havertz and Werner.
Buur and Bissouma on bench if any of those don’t play.

Werner and Vinagre. I am hoping for a Vinagre 60 min intro and a cheeky 84th min winning goal from him.
